00:41I think it's going to be must-listen radio.
00:43You guys, you know, you did a great job with him.
00:46And Deion's always honest.
00:49And we appreciate that in the media, talking to him.
00:52I thought he was really good on the game yesterday.
00:54And I thought, you know, a couple of really interesting quotes there.
00:58The one about McDermott and Brady and then the one about PFF.
01:01Really interesting stuff.
01:03Yeah, he is one of those guys, and you know him very well, I'm sure.
01:07He's one of those guys that seems to have a compunction to tell you the truth.
01:12And, you know, I want all of our guests to be like that, you know.
01:16Because sometimes it's just so vanilla or benign and understandable, as we all know, for athletes and coaches to be
01:23like that.
01:24But maybe we'll see.
01:25If there's adversity this year, and I'm about to ask you if you think there will be any.

01:31I think I don't want them all to sell.
01:32We'll see what Dawkins brings on those occasions.
01:35But yesterday, so far so good.
01:37You heard the Dawkins comments about Brady and offense and, you know, superheroes.
01:41And yesterday looked a lot like that would make sense.
01:46Yeah, I think you guys know.
01:48I have come on with you many times over the last few months.
01:53And I have said I believe this Bills team is going to be much more high event.
01:57We use that term in hockey a lot, but it's in football this year.
02:01And it's going to be a wild ride.
02:03And we just said it a couple weeks ago.
02:05I said, listen, I think you're going to get a lot more aggressive risk-reward defense.
02:09Because Jim Leonard is going to play that way.
02:11And they might not have necessarily all the parts that, you know, he wants to have in the next couple
02:15of years.
02:16And they're going to go after teams.
02:18And they're going to give up bigger plays than you've seen them give up.
02:20But they're going to make bigger plays.
02:21And we saw that yesterday.
02:22Nailed it.
02:23And I believe that the same thing would happen on offense.
02:26And I think, you know, I've said a couple times that I predict Josh Allen's numbers will spike in positive
02:31and negative ways.
02:32Well, good thing they didn't spike in a negative way yesterday.
02:34But what I mean by that is they're going to attack.
02:38They're going to be aggressive.
02:39And I'm just going to tell you, everybody, right now, we're going to be living life like this this year.
02:43Like, this is what it's going to be all year.
02:45And now, granted, if you play a team like, I don't know, when they play the Raiders or they play
02:49the Dolphins and maybe the teams that can't hang with them, you know, life isn't going to be as on
02:54the edge of your seat while back and forth for the second half, maybe.
02:58But when they play good teams, when they play better offenses, this is what we're in for this year.
03:03Did it surprise you at all?
03:05Well, Deion said similar, and I know you were at the game, so you weren't sitting there taking notes on
03:10what Ian Eagle and Ross Tucker were saying on the CBS broadcast of the game sale.
03:15But Ross mentioned at least once, maybe twice, that, like, Josh intimated to him that he's excited to see what
03:23Brady can do basically without, you know, without Sean McDermott above him.
03:28And as much as I feel like fans had been sort of talking, we've been talking like that all year
03:34long, and then you just made the point about high event, and that certainly is a part of that, I
03:40guess I was surprised to hear that Allen publicly would be that blunt about it.
03:45Because I feel like it turns the pressure up on Brady to deliver on exactly that.
03:51And, I mean, they did yesterday, but you can't know going into the game that it's going to turn out
03:56the way you want it to turn out, especially against that opponent.
03:58I just, I liked hearing it.
04:01It confirms a lot of fans' priors about what Brady could do without a head coach above him, you know,
04:09telling him or even, you know, just creating a vibe where it's like, okay, I've got to be more conservative.
04:14I've got to stay with the run.
04:15I've got to, I've got to, to their credit, the Bills really got away from James Cook when it stopped
04:21working.
04:21And I think that that, sometimes, they stay too long at that dance sometimes, or have.
04:27Yeah, let's start with, you know, Ross and anything he said, and I did not hear this being in the
04:32press box watching, but, you know, that's him telling what Josh said to him.
04:36I don't know the exact quote that Josh said, right?
04:38I don't know exactly how he phrased it to him or the context.
04:41And, obviously, Ross is relaying that, and I'd like to know that a little bit more before speaking on it,
04:45because I don't know how he said it to him necessarily.
04:48You know, because it, obviously, we know, you know, Josh is very buttoned up and safe, kind of, when you
04:54say things.
04:54And he's aware of the gravity of his words when he says things.
04:57Right.
04:58And for Ross to say that, and it kind of comes off as, and again, I don't know how he
05:03said it to him, of, you know, it comes off a certain way, I guess, talking about the changing coach,
05:08you know, and you could take it that way.
05:09Now, that being said, you guys know, I've said this too, where Sean McDermott's philosophy was always, don't, you can't,
05:19don't lose the game before you can win it.
05:21Right.
05:22Don't make a mistake that's going to put you in a position where you're not going to be able to
05:26win the game because you lost it first by doing something dumb.
05:29And that's been his philosophy.
05:30And if you want to call that conservative, you want to call that safe, that's fine.
05:33They also have the one, two or third highest scoring offense in the league over the last several years, mostly
05:39because they have Josh Allen, but it's not like he just, you know, it wasn't three yards in a cloud
05:43of dust.
05:44I think that's right.
05:45I think, I think people get a little bit too carried away with that stuff.
05:47You know what I mean?
05:48Like, but, but yeah, for sure.
05:50I think Brady clued us in on this a little bit when he was hired.
05:54If you really listen to him talk through the press conferences, through the podcasts that we've done, the interviews that
06:00he's done and things like that.
06:02There was a time where he mentioned something about playing against the tougher quarterbacks, the higher octane offenses, the teams
06:09that can score on you and making sure that you don't give the game away to them.
06:13Don't give them extra opportunities.
06:15And I think, I think that's right.
06:17That's how Sean McDermott kind of approached a game against Kansas City, a game against Stafford and the Rams.
06:23It gets into a shootout or the Detroit and gets into a shootout, whatever, all those kinds of things, Lamar.
06:28And I think Joe is, we've seen here and we've talked about and I've said, kind of doesn't care about
06:34that.
06:35It's, I have Josh Allen and you don't, and I'm going to outscore you and I'm going to let Jim
06:40Leonard do his thing.
06:41And you know what?
06:42We might get into a shootout.
06:44I'm not going to worry about that because I'm going to win the shootout because I have Josh Allen.
06:47And yesterday, yes, the defense made a couple of critical plays late, but a lot of people yesterday, from what
06:55I heard at the end of the game, talking about the game, the bottom line of them was that was
07:00a difference between one team and having Josh Allen and one team having CJ Stroud.

07:06The gap between the two.
07:08I think the Brady quote you might want here is they got to play us.

07:28there could be, there's going to be a couple of games this year, maybe where there's a loss along the

07:33And we're like, man, if he just would have been a little bit safer and maybe they should have stuck
07:37with the run a little bit more with James Cook in this situation and didn't put themselves in a position
07:42where they had to defend with a minute and a half left because they scored.
07:45They were attacking and all these kinds of things like those things could come up this year.
07:49There's no doubt about it.
07:50And to your point about yesterday with James Cook, I give the Texans credit.
07:54One thing I noticed right away, and I tweeted this out, I think in the early second half was give
07:58the Texans credit.
07:59They've done a nice job to, to make an adjustment against the bills run game.
08:02James Cook was off and run in the first couple of series.
08:05And look, he looked like the, you know, best back in the league.
08:08Again, the 1600 yards leading the league.
08:10Texans did a nice job and the bill said, okay, well, that's fine.
08:13Well, you want to do that?
08:14We're going to throw the ball downfield and you're not gonna be able to stop us.
08:17And that's what they did.
08:19You want to think about something a little bit funny.

08:28The crucible of the first five games of their schedule.
08:32So they've checked off the Houston box Detroit one play away from losing at home to the saints, the chargers
08:39beaten kind of soundly at home by Arizona, new England.

08:52Those teams are probably mostly all still good, but Rams looked horrible.

10:16I mean, three plays, strip sack, and then the play at the end.
10:20Yeah, Jim Leonard spoke today and called him phenomenal.
10:24That's the word that he used.
10:25He said he was phenomenal.
10:26He said he was consistently winning his matchups.
10:30And this is what the Bills need from Greg Rousseau.
10:33He has always been a very good football player.
10:35He has always been a three down player, really good against the run, and he offers you some
10:39pass rush.
10:40What the Bills have been missing, as we all know, over the last several years, is that
10:44kind of kingpin pass rusher.
10:46A guy that people know, you know where he's got to be.
10:50I'm sorry, you know where he is in every play, and they have to account for him.
10:53Look, I'm not, somebody in the locker room was joking yesterday, one of the media members,
10:57I mean, hey, 15, if he changes his number to 15, maybe he gets 15 sacks.
11:01I mean, that's lofty expectations, but if this guy can get to double-digit sacks, and
11:05you get to like 12 or something, I think that's a really good, that's what you want from
11:10Greg Rousseau.
11:11You want him to be a guy doing that.
11:13And look, his length causes problems.
11:15He, the strip sacks, two of them, on CJ Stroud, that's his length coming into play, and then
11:20he drops into coverage, and he knocks the ball away.
11:23That play goes unnoticed on the box score because of what he did elsewhere and otherwise.
11:28And I just think that, you know, that's what you need from Greg Rousseau.
11:32That's unlocking him a little bit, and, you know, let's see where this goes with him.
11:36That was a really, really nice game he turned in.
11:37There was at least one, I'm sure there were many more than that, but one run play where
11:42I noticed him on a replay doing a great job of just, you know, not trying to do too much,
11:48right?
11:48Just sort of occupying his guy and setting the edge, like they say, and just allowing his
11:53teammates to sort of funnel in and backfill and make the tackle.
11:57So, yeah, it was really good, Sal.
11:59What's so weird about this game on defense is outside of those bookends where you've got
12:06both strip sacks by Rousseau on the first series and the last series Houston has in the game,
12:12boy, in between, there was just not a lot of pressure.
12:17Chubb, I felt like, was not really.
12:19There was maybe one time he got close.
12:23And, you know, Deion Walker had, of course, the big play on that last possession as well
12:27that, you know, maybe they don't end up winning the game without that play that preceded the
12:31Rousseau play, but I was a little worried about them generating pass pressure.
12:36It didn't look to me like there was a lot of, you know, anything all that interesting
12:41about what they did up front trying to confuse Houston.
12:44It looked pretty straight to me.
12:47Yeah, I think Houston did a good job and the Bills didn't do a good enough job of, you
12:51having pressure consistently throughout the game.
12:54When they needed it a couple times late in the game, they got it.
12:58We'll see how things evolve.

13:01Jim Leonard's really good, by the way, on the mic.
13:03Like, he gives you good insight.
13:05He made a comment today.
13:06It was really interesting.
13:07He said, like, he took accountability and responsibility for him and his players and
13:11his staff and said, basically, we should have gotten to, I should have and we should
13:17have recognized and made adjustments quicker.
13:20Like, he thought that they could have got to some things quicker.
13:23He also said that secondary-wise, and I'll get back to the front, he said secondary-wise,
13:28there were a couple times where he said guys were kind of looking around, wondering where
13:31the answers were going to come from.
13:32I just like when guys are talking like that.
13:34Like, okay, now you're telling us here, like, things weren't going that way.
13:37He said, but we got to it in the second half.
13:39And they did.
13:39They did a great job to adjust in the second half, mostly on the run.
13:42But what happened?
13:44Because they were able to, and I think this is the answer to your question, Bulldog,
13:47a lot of it, which was, because they were able to stop the runs so much more effectively
13:52in the second half, the Texans, that put them in a few more third and long situations.
13:57And that's when you saw the pass rush start to come alive a little bit.
14:00I mean, there was also a pass rush where, and I talked with Terrell Bernard about this,
14:03you guys saw the CJ Stroud leak out.
14:05When CJ Stroud ran for that long run, I mean, Terrell Bernard blitzes and he doesn't get
14:08home and now the, now the middle of the field is vacated.
14:12Hey, love, you're going to, you're going to live and die by the blitz.
14:14That's what you're going to do.
14:14This is high event football.
14:15Just talked about it, but I'm going to give you these numbers.
14:18I went through it today in the second half.
14:21They allowed one 10 yard run.
14:23Other than that, five, zero, negative two, zero, two, three, zero, negative two, three,
14:29negative two, and six.
14:31Like they did a great job to stop the run less than four, like three and a half yards of
14:35carry.
14:35And that's what you have to do.
14:37If you want to get that pass rush going a little bit and they were able to, they'll have to
14:41do a better job more consistently though, to kind of answer what you're saying, what
14:44you're right.
