00:02a ninth grade I think in 2006 I'm young but I'm no spring chicken so it's been a while folks
00:10but welcome in 8030550 is of course the number to call if you want to get your thoughts in
00:15on an incredible day we'll go through a whole bunch of stuff here over the next two hours
00:20we'll hear again if you missed any of the postgame interview with Bill's head coach
00:27I'm gonna probably say Sean McDermott a couple more times before the end of the season but
00:31Bill's head coach Joe Brady will hear any player sound from the locker room as well but I first
00:36want to start with what I guess I would say are the three stars of this game which I think
00:41very
00:41clearly star number one guys Josh Allen 334 yards through the air four total touchdowns two on the
00:46ground two through the air including a game winner to to Josh Palmer who really had not made much of
00:55an impact throughout this game at all until that last possession so like all in all the thing that
01:02I'm gonna come away in this game from or with is the fact that this is an offense that has
01:08looked
01:08hopefully for the rest of the season will look dramatically different than the offense we have
01:14seen since Josh Allen's been drafted I mean there was signs of this and in moments of this in the
01:25Ken Dorsey era right I mean they wanted to throw the football down the field almost at a fault and
01:32it hurt them in a lot of situations where they just could not establish a run game and there was
01:35no semblance of any short or intermediate passing game this had everything for you I mean you heard
01:41Mike Shope or at least I did talk about how this team was last 32nd last year an average depth
01:47of
01:47target offensively I would imagine if you're Joe Brady the first thing you did when you got named head coach
01:52was say we need to bring that number way up we have Josh Allen a quarterback he should not just
01:57be
01:57a screen merchant like this is one of the best arms maybe ever to play this game and today I
02:03just saw
02:03it on display over and over and over again this is the offense I have dreamed that Josh Allen would
02:10be playing in and he's finally got the weapons to complement it to to put them in situations that
02:15they can actually use it and I look at it from the perspective of with Josh Allen he still has
02:22his legs I mean he's going to be 30 years old this year the legs are still there but the
02:27arm strength
02:27was on full display today I mean even in plays that aren't going to go down in the stat sheet
02:32there were there was a you know pass interference penalty to DJ Moore and we'll get into DJ Moore in
02:37a little while as well just a lot of guys to get to but starting obviously with with number 17
02:41is where
02:41we had to start today but I felt really strongly that this was one of the best Joe Brady called
02:48games that I've watched since he's taken over for as you know from Ken Dorsey after that Broncos game
02:54a couple of years ago and it's awesome that it's really truly his offense you can tell and even some
03:01of Josh Allen's postgame comments to Evan Washburn of CBS I think really cemented this for me is I'm not
03:07sure Josh Allen wanted to play the 12 and 13 and 14 play methodical drive type football that the
03:13Sean McDermott teams had sort of been known for offensively and and it seems like Joe Brady doesn't
03:18want that either Joe Brady wants a high-flying you know explosive play type offense and one of my keys
03:25to the game coming into this game was they needed to generate explosives against a defense that gave up
03:31so few explosive plays and really the only explosives we saw from this Bills team where Khalil Shakir
03:37plays where he's you know taking a screen pass or a short pass breaking five tackles and taking it to
03:42the house or James Cook turn around hand it off and he makes a couple of people miss and he
03:47goes and to
03:48see this offense now operate in the explosive play department exclusively down the field through the
03:55air I mean has to be really really fun if you're a Bills fan the idea that this offense exists
04:02in
04:03this way in this manner and now they can win football games against what I believed coming
04:08into this game was the best defense in football and that's not to take any shots at Seattle who
04:13had just won a Super Bowl but Seattle doesn't have the dogs this Houston this Houston Texans defense does
04:19you know Seattle I think wins far more with scheme with simulated pressures and and getting home with
04:25blitzes they don't have a Danielle Hunter they don't have they don't have a Will Anderson right
04:29they don't have a Derek Stingley they don't have a Jalen Petrie so the fact that the Bills did it
04:35against this defense in the historic manner they did the highest amount of passing yards they gave up
04:42in all of 2025 was 224 yards to Matt Stafford I mean 334 is an insane number week one and
04:51I think
04:52what it does for the rest of the league is it shows the Bills now have a number a true
04:56number
04:57one wide receiver in DJ Moore but he's part of the story today because to me as much as I
05:03want
05:03and my three stars my third star in this game is DJ Moore I really had a hard time giving
05:08to DJ
05:08Moore over Dalton Kincaid in this game but DJ Moore I thought affected the game not just in the stat
05:13sheet
05:13but I mentioned earlier in the pass interference he got open the plays that he made it's amazing it
05:20feels good to have a number one wide receiver back because you saw it Paul Hamilton talks about this
05:25all the time in hockey right and in the NHL when a player goes down you have to elevate players
05:31from
05:32the third and fourth line that probably shouldn't be a full-time scoring line player and I think now
05:37you see Josh Palmer isn't asked to be this team's number two wide receiver he's asked to be this team's
05:42number three and number four wide receiver they did not have to rely at all on Keon Coleman today
05:48that's a huge plot anything that they get from Keon Coleman this year will just be icing on the cake
05:54it won't be something they have to spend each and every week figuring out how do we get Keon Coleman
05:59going how do we get him involved in the game plan the Bills don't have to do that now 73
06:04% of the plays
06:05I watched Dalton Kincaid play on today they came out in 13 personnel he was on the field when he
06:11was in
06:12one or two tight end sets he was in running plays and that's the big thing for me that I
06:17wanted to
06:17avoid and what I've watched and I think a lot of my criticism of the New England Patriots in week
06:22one
06:22was it's so obvious when Matt Collins is on the field that team runs the football that is not right
06:28now that I thought was a huge issue for the Bills leading into this game in this season is how
06:33can you
06:34get Dalton Kincaid going if he's only out there in pass sets where teams are going to know and be
06:38able to
06:39game plan around the fact that when personnel packages that feature Dalton Kincaid are on the
06:43field they're going to throw the ball more times than not and I thought Brady did a great job early
06:48really condensing sets getting 13 personnel but then running pass plays out of it pass sets the Bills I
06:54think have one of the more diverse pass personnel packages in the league in their 13 personnel no
07:00Reggie Gilliam well that's okay we're going to run three tight ends at you and I really like that a
07:04lot
07:05but I guess for me seeing Dalton Kincaid's usage down the field seeing DJ Moore's usage down the
07:11field knowing now that teams are going to have to respect DJ Moore and Dalton Kincaid down the field
07:17to me should open up things immensely for a guy like Khalil Shakir who also had a good game today
07:22but
07:23now I think Khalil Shakir gets to run and do routes over the middle in the short and intermediate areas
07:28uninhibited because teams don't have to can't squat on his play and the things he does underneath so
07:34I just think you saw a ton of positive signs I don't want to be over dramatic in a week
07:38one win
07:39but this was a damn good defense and a team that a lot of people are picking to be the
07:44AFC representative
07:45in the Super Bowl I was definitely pleasantly I guess pleasant I don't I guess I wasn't pleasantly
07:51surprised but I was surprised to see that CJ Stroud played the game that he did and part of this
07:56was
07:56there was a lot of wide receivers running wide open today that's something Jim Leonard's going to have
08:00to really work on we'll get into the defense at some point here in a little while but I kind
08:04of
08:04wanted some superlatives out of the gate really talk about the positives in this game and for me
08:08my second star of this game is Greg Russo because I mean what a game for the I don't know
08:14for me coming
08:15into the season the guy I looked at most and said this defensive shift from a 4-3 to a
08:203-4 he now gets
08:22to take that hand out of the dirt he gets to be an edge rush linebacker and I just think
08:28it fits
08:28his game so perfectly he's so long he's so athletic it was on display today he opened in
08:34the opening drive today with a sack fumble and sealed the deal with a sack fumble I think we're
08:38in route for a career year for Gregory Russo I think he's going to have his first double digit sack
08:43season if he can stay healthy and to me instead of being the guy at the edge now that is
08:48expected
08:49to just stay home and make sure that they don't get beat on any cutback lanes or anything in the
08:53run
08:53game and now he can actually be used as an edge rusher on the outside with his length and his
08:58strength and his bull rush ability and now we're going to get to see kind of all the other tricks
09:02in
09:02the pass rushing bag from Greg Russo in this system I think he could be an edger and Cooper type
09:07that
09:07we've seen in Denver have so much success in this scheme so big day for Greg Russo a lot to
09:13love from
09:13his game obviously Deion Walker another player a lot to love from Deion Walker's game today had a sack
09:19in a big moment that I thought really changed the the tide really changed the momentum it really
09:25looked like that Texans offense had this this Bills defense on their heels they were going to walk in
09:29score a touchdown and then walk off the field with a two-point victory that's kind of what it felt
09:33like was going to happen and Deion Walker's sack where he just dominates the internal part of the
09:38offensive line for the Houston Texans it completely shifted the dynamic it completely shifted the momentum
09:44in this game and the Bills were all ultimately able to you know stave off and and and find a
09:49way to to
09:49make the play at the end of that game and then the third star for me I kind of already
09:52mentioned it but
09:53DJ Moore five for 100 and a touchdown in this game the sideline catch was incredible his ability to stay
09:59in bounds keep his toes in and then turn up field and score that touchdown the pass interference that
10:04he target that he got called uh for against in this game so just everything that you'd love to see
10:10from
10:10a Bills team right now whose identity was still I think in flux coming into this game I don't think
10:15there's anything in flux about the identity of this team moving forward they are a team that is
10:19going to run their offense through Josh Allen and through the arm of Josh Allen which is I think
10:25gotta be something everyone is really excited to hear and and I think more importantly this is a team
10:30that understands its weapons are its greatest advantage and they're going to use Dalton Kincaid I think
10:35the what they imagined he was going to be drafted for he's now going to be used in that sense
10:40I
10:40think with DJ Moore they finally have a guy that can take the top off the defense which should open
10:44things up for a Josh Palmer to be a bigger impact down the field we saw that on the game
10:48-winning
10:49touchdown and then I think for me too this is promising from the state that or from the standpoint
10:54that they did not really have success running the football in the second half and it did not stop
10:58them if they have to become one-dimensional and throw the football I think they're absolutely ready
11:03to be a team that throws the ball 30 40 50 times the game if they absolutely have to and
11:08not just be
11:08such a methodical we need to win by and listen I think it showed up in the scorecard right and
11:14like
11:14in the in the score because 36 31 I think a Sean McDermott led defense probably gives up fewer
11:20points to the Houston Texans however I think they do it by creating a mechanism in the offense that
11:26makes them less exciting that makes them less likely to score 36 points because you're taking the
11:32greatest asset you have Josh Allen and you're putting a governor on it but that's how this team has won
11:37right I mean historically the last nine years under Sean McDermott this team won despite having one
11:43of the most athletic athletically gifted one of the best arms you're ever going to watch in Josh Allen
11:49really be sort of stymied by their need to reduce the amount of possession time reduce the amount of
11:56plays the opposing offenses were going to run because they did not have faith in their defense and I am
12:03I'm
12:04way more inclined to play games like the bills played today than the bills run 65 plays and have
12:12an average of 4.5 yards per play and run this mucky kind of slow it down non-exciting brand
12:19of football
12:19because what to me it's proved is that it doesn't work in the playoffs it just it does it gets
12:25you only
12:26so far that conservative type of play calling and I think today I think what you have is a young
12:32defense
12:32that's learning a new system Jim Leonard has a ton of work ahead of him to get this defense in
12:37a better
12:38place but it's very clear to me and I'm very excited about this is that their head coach and
12:43an offensive play caller Joe Brady kind of doesn't care he just wants to go out and score more points
12:49than the opponent but again they are going to have to really tie some things together on the on the
12:55offense or I'm sorry on the defensive side of the ball it just it wasn't good enough today and we'll
13:00you
13:00know it's something they're going to have to keep building on that is for sure all right let's get
13:04connected with our fans here on the Buffalo football game day overtime show again I'm Nate Geary thanks
13:09for joining us let's have the show get kicked off today with Aaron wants to talk some Joe Brady Aaron
13:14you're on the overtime show good evening to you hey how's it going Nate good I wanted to say I
13:20think
13:20you kind of made my point for me but I just want to say Joe Brady did a great job
13:24today I mean
13:25beating a good team on the road for your first win as head coach I mean it doesn't get any
13:30better
13:30than that I mean come on but yeah I mean he never blinked in key moments today often in moments
13:38where
13:38we saw Sean McDermott kind of not necessarily make different decisions but hesitate or not go all out
13:45I think other coaches knew that eventually he would go back to his safe play calling and not be willing
13:51to kind of push all of his poker chips into the center of the table which Joe Brady just never
13:56blinked the team looked a lot more relaxed as soon as the run game stopped working they were not afraid
14:03to pass and they were not afraid to kind of just be them just kind of throw the ball and
14:08win or lose
14:08you know we have Josh out and yeah there was just a lot of arguing about with McDermott as head
14:13coach
14:14who this team was I mean what their identity was and under Joe Brady I think a lot of fans
14:20want to see
14:20that go away where you know we're just going to be this is we're going to win or lose with
14:24Josh Allen
14:25and that's you know about under the Josh Allen gunslinger play style and that's you know but I
14:30think this is what fans the Buffalo Bills fans wanted out of a head coach so thank you so much
14:36Nate I'll hang up and listen yeah thanks for the caller and I agree like I think that the identity
14:41of
14:41this team under Sean McDermott again was a conservative level type of game plan both offensively and
14:48defensively but I think that conservatism showed up in big moments as almost tightness right and
14:54really ever since 13 seconds this team in those big moments they always seemed so tight and for me
15:00today if you're looking at this game plan I look at it and I say this is a team that
15:04welcomed that
15:05moment and even Joe Brady talked about in his postgame press conference which again will play for you in
15:11the seven o'clock hour again it was nice to hear the head coach talk about welcoming those moments
15:17and welcoming that pressure and not that I think Sean McDermott would ever say he was running away
15:21from those moments but I think that part of the game plan was always to never be in those moments
15:27right is to you know be able to run the football and get in get a lead and never look
15:32back and that
15:33is just it's great on paper but it's really difficult in the NFL with how good defenses are and how
15:39much film
15:39is out on Josh Allen in this offense to just expect week in and week out that you're going to
15:43be able
15:44to get a lead and run it out and and run more plays than the other team and you know
15:49the bills got
15:50more it was not fully consistent all day but it felt like they got more the game winning play is
15:56a
15:56three-man rush and and everybody pretty much got home so um yeah overall I agree Aaron that the identity
16:04of this team and and it's not going to be set in stone today what we saw against this Texans
16:09team
16:09might not be what we see next week it might not be what we see in five weeks but I
16:14think if this is
16:15the the path to the identity they want to be if they gave us a sneak peek and how they
16:21want to win
16:21football games today boy am I all in I mean again I I just think saying defense just make a
16:28stop for us
16:29but we're not gonna hold your hand we're not gonna baby you through this you need to go out make
16:33some
16:33plays and they did to start the second half two straight three and outs for the defense I thought
16:37really sort of calmed the game down a little bit at the start of the second half after the craziness
16:43of the end of the first half um but I don't know I I am cautiously optimistic that there truly
16:50is a page
16:51being turned and don't I mean some people think I'm overly skeptical or I'm overly negative and listen I
16:57like to give flowers as much as I like to give my criticism and critiques but I was really doubtful
17:03that Joe Brady's presence being under Sean McDermott for the last two and a half really three seasons
17:09but two and a half as an offensive play caller was going to be dramatically different that he was going
17:14to veer away from the type of culture from the type of you know game style from how they their
17:20formula
17:21to winning I just had my doubts that there would be a dramatic difference in that formula in that recipe
17:27and to me today he showed really from day one from the start of free agency when the bill signed
17:32CJ
17:33Gardner Johnson I said oh okay that's a that's a break away from the Sean McDermott culture
17:42archetype right like it just was it was a clear cut okay this is not how we're just going to
17:47keep
17:47doing business we're not going to just bring church choir guys in here we want guys that give us a
17:52little
17:52bit of an edge and that just right wrong and different was not the type of player that Sean
17:57McDermott would have really ever gotten down with so for me that was a really like oh okay all right
18:02well let's see you know it's March things could go sideways I don't know but like today was the first
18:07time it was like Baker Mayfield planting the flag in the middle of Kansas a stadium right and it sort
18:13of felt like this is Joe Brady saying this is my team here's the formula we're going to use and
18:19if
18:19you're a Bills fan you have to be excited thanks for the call Aaron let's go to Mark Mark you're
18:23on
18:23the overtime show good evening Mark yes first of all I want to give a shout out to Rousseau I
18:30I've been critical of him myself these last couple years I think he's been known to take some some
18:38games off seemingly and you know maybe I thought a side of a milk carton was in his future because
18:44he
18:44he just seemingly just was uh disappeared from games at times but uh so shout out to him and then
18:52uh I guess if I have the big criticisms in this game I think the same old the same old
19:00things
19:01wear their head uh for this Buffalo defense and you know I know that they don't get as much time
19:07to
19:07practice you know and they they don't you know they don't have as many tackling this out and the other
19:12but but tackling has been uh an Achilles heel for this team for so long you know and if you
19:21watch
19:21if you watch the game again if you get a chance I mean I I was watching for these things
19:27personally
19:27today and the missed tackles were just bad and then and then another thing I noticed
19:34was uh was uh was uh that uh DeMar Hamlin this guy I thought the reason they kind of kept
19:42him
19:42around I you know I heard some of the philosophy from the team was that you know he he's been
19:47in
19:47the you know he's he's got experience and he's been in the system this that and the other
19:52but I mean I I this guy they have to see if the Toronto Argonauts want him because I just
19:58I just don't want to see this guy play another down for the bills I'm sorry I realized you know
20:04all that you know that he's gone through as a football player I get it but you know I just
20:09after today's performance he literally looked lost a few times thank you yeah no thanks for the call
20:15Mark listen I think you probably echo a lot of frustrations of bills fans myself included I
20:20watched a couple of times I'm like is that DeMar Hamlin they ran a lot of three safeties today it
20:25was
20:25not you know DeMar Hamlin on the field in place of someone else they ran three safeties I think
20:30they signed Geno Stone with the idea that he was going to be playing in those situations and simply
20:36put you know DeMar Hamlin beat him out in the preseason and Geno Stone's on the practice squad and
20:40until there's some kind of elevation and or injury it seems like that's what they're going to do and
20:45you know right wrong and different there's probably not every team can roll out three great
20:50players at safety the bills have I think two very good safeties and DeMar Hamlin and whether or
20:56not that guy is maybe at some point this season Jordan Hancock I think it's something to pay
21:03attention to there was a couple of interesting things to me so today DeMar Hamlin being on the
21:07field as much as he as much as he was as the third safety or like the dime player I
21:11do wonder if Jordan
21:13Hancock is fully healthy he was on the injury report all week with a quad injury if he's 100%
21:17healthy
21:18I am wondering maybe that is a obvious transition away from Hamlin to a Jordan Hancock so that'll be
21:26something I watch over the next couple of weeks but listen I think they've tried to replace him and
21:31he's done just enough to stick on the roster but no I listen I don't agree I don't disagree with
21:37you
21:37because I think a lot of people were frustrated to see as much DeMar Hamlin today as we did but
21:42you
21:42know well we'll see if that content that trend continues the other thing is seeing Max Harrison
21:46I don't know if he was due to injury or there was a agreed upon sort of you know timeshare
21:53that was
21:53going on on the other outside corner but they we saw a lot of Davis and Igbenosan today more than
21:59I
21:59kind of thought they were we would see just based on the way that Jim Leonard and Joe Brady have
22:05talked
22:05about you know that cornerback two position is Max Harrison's it didn't feel like it today he had a bad
22:10play on that final drive uh giving up a catch up on the sidelines on a play that he just
22:15kind of
22:15doesn't know what he's doing what coverage they're running he sort of cues um on an inside play with
22:21the and and basically gives up a wide open catch on the most important drive of the series so maybe
22:26the
22:26most important defensive series of the game so he's got some stuff to clean up um and obviously
22:31Christian Bedford's another story in this game that we'll talk about over the next couple uh you know
22:36hour or so but Christian Bedford really struggled today early on I think he cleaned some things up
22:43late in this game but they're going to need way more from Christian Bedford as their number one
22:47corner uh I thought today it just it it was something it was very uncharacteristic of what
22:53we have come to maybe um expect from Christian Bedford it just it just did not look like the
22:59Christian Bedford I know I've sort of uh been accustomed to seeing let's grab one more phone
23:03call before we take a time out let's go to Rob in Connecticut Rob you're on the overtime show good
23:06evening Rob Nate what's going on my friend how's everything going good man you know it's better
23:12today we're talking about a win than a loss you know yeah absolutely well listen I had the privilege
23:18of listening to Gamecast today because obviously first off you know that I'm legally blind
23:24and I couldn't um I didn't get the game on TV here in Connecticut and of course I didn't have
23:32it on
23:32the radio so let me listen to the three guys on radio so I had the privilege of listening to
23:38you
23:38and Zach and Derek and I just want to let you know that when all those flags are being thrown
23:44and the
23:45defense wasn't doing what they should have been doing like the the backfield which I'm frustrated
23:49with I said all the bad words that you couldn't say on the air I just wanted to make sure
23:56you were
23:56aware of that I felt your frustration I was with you guys the whole time so I enjoyed it thoroughly
24:02thanks for being my eyes but um you know what Josh did what Josh does you know and that was
24:08that was
24:09something to be grateful for I also feel that you know DJ Moore is a great addition to the team
24:16but I can only imagine what Josh is going to do with the other wide receivers once he starts getting
24:22comfortable with everybody else because DJ Moore is going to be a decoy a lot of the times out there
24:28but my frustration is with the defense um one of the things I was saying before this game was even
24:33going
24:33to be played was get to Stroud early and we did but then it kind of faded away a little
24:40bit I don't
24:40have a problem with the D line I love the own Walker yes the own the own Walker the own
24:47the own
24:48Walker um love him I love Russo and I agree with what you were saying about him during the game
24:55um he's going to be a wrecker this year it's the D backs um and you know what yeah Leonard
25:03has a lot
25:04to uh work with and and go back to the drawing board but um hey this was a great win
25:10I you know I was
25:11you know really really nervous at the end there I was like man but when Dion came up with that
25:16sack
25:16and then to close the deal with uh Greg Russo that was that was great that was absolutely great but
25:23I enjoyed listening to you it was like sitting next to my three buddies that uh enjoyed watching
25:29the Bills play the game so hopefully you have a great season it's always great catching up with you
