00:00in tim graham's warm seat it's not super uncomfortable but it's you know noticeable
00:05it's noticeable i would say a little gross uh dan dale just already crushing it with these
00:11opens for us uh shout out to dan dale on the on the wheels of steel every time i think
00:15i want to
00:15hear something 30 seconds later it just plays i don't even communicate that much once in a while
00:21i'll send something like at night hey we might want this for the show but typically like i want
00:25it to sound like oh is that owen parker's music and then there it is make it sound like a
00:29wrestling
00:29thing he nails it every time he's telepathic somehow you are listening to wgr middays driven by
00:36north town automotive i'm owen parker that's brad rider we just had tim graham leave us it's going
00:42to be me and brad for the next two hours with you leading up to show up and bulldog so
00:46we've got a
00:48bills game to talk about we've got plenty of your calls which we will get to in a moment here
00:51i just
00:52have something i'd like to sort of ask the class here all right and bring up a little bit i
00:57think
00:58this was as interesting an opener as the bills have had to me since last year that raven's game
01:05was so good it was really good but you're right no going into it yeah going in i'm talking sure
01:09like there was so much excitement and so many questions about joe brady about what this offense
01:15will look like about who's going to do what jobs who's going to be on the field and i think
01:21we got a
01:22lot of answers to those questions and i think a lot of them good answers answers that we all wanted
01:27um i mean the the ball was pushed down the field way way way more than it was in years
01:33past even
01:34with joe brady as the oc so we've seen the sort of shackles come off point come to fruition in
01:41you
01:41know one game obviously so take this with a grain of salt but that's a question i think we got
01:46answered
01:47i think we saw joe brady's continued commitment to 13 personnel which they ran more than anybody in
01:52the league they were one of two teams above 30 along with the los angeles rams i think if you're
01:58doing something similar to the rams i know they lost uh in their opening game but i i think that
02:03sean mcveigh is a great coach i think if you're sharing a philosophy with mcveigh you're probably in
02:07good shape i think you got good fourth down decisions out of joe brady on uh sunday and i really
02:15think we got a lot of good answers but i want to ask out there i want to ask you
02:19brad what do you
02:20need to see still what what's sort of floating around in your head that you're not sure was proven
02:26to you on sunday um the the super obvious super easy irrefutable answer is i just need to see more
02:37of it like i need consistency obviously um i need to see that it wasn't just all right we've got
02:41a game
02:42for this one team that embarrassed us last time and we're not going to have that happen again and
02:47we're going to i need to see that he wasn't showing off although i do think to a certain extent
02:53he was
02:53like going for it on fourth down on the first drive of the season on the road at houston and
02:58not doing
02:59the thing that is the most likely path to success is an indicator that he's putting stuff on film for
03:05other people to think about for other people to worry about for other teams to be concerned with to
03:09show hey we're not the same offense that we were last year he might have done the same exact thing
03:13just as our offensive coordinator even with sean mcdermott still here he might have done the same
03:19to kind of put out there all right we're going to change it because i don't think joe brady has
03:23had
03:23one consistent sort of mo as the uh offensive coordinator since replacing ken dorsey if you ask
03:31anyone uh a month into his tenure as oc it's like oh this guy is focusing on the ground game
03:38and he's
03:38protecting this and that and maybe he did because dorsey was being replaced because he wasn't doing
03:45that and brady's like all right that's what you want i can do it you know that i'll do it
03:48your way
03:49while still thinking i got a better idea so it slowly progresses from yeah i'll take the job and do
03:54exactly what you wanted to to take some ownership i'm going to take ownership of this job i i might
04:00be
04:00the right person to talk about this on day two of this show starting again i know exactly what
04:07is expected of a host on wgr i also have crazy ideas of what i think it could be right
04:13but you
04:14don't bust out the craziest ideas on day one no of course you take your time and you build up
04:19and
04:20you get some comfort and you you're secure and a couple of the checks clear for a couple years in
04:25brady's case and that's like all right well you promoted me i guess i get to try my stuff now
04:31so i think there's just a little bit of that i don't expect you know shackles are off means joe
04:36brady is now this wild man right but i think there's a little bit more respect for if i've got
04:41josh allen on my team that i should lean into that more than anything else of course and that's kind
04:48of what i saw and it worked because they won the game but there were a couple of situations where
04:54it
04:54might not have because you took extra chances he's willing to take more chances to create more
04:59offense as opposed to let's not make mistakes and it's i think it's going to be that way on the
05:04defensive side of the ball too so uh i don't think i answered your question at all but those are
05:09the
05:09thoughts that fell out of my head uh based on the question that's why that's why you ask the
05:14questions it doesn't need to be exactly direct answers and if you've got a thought on this topic just
05:18what do you what do you still need proven by joe brady to you give us a call 803-0550
05:24we want
05:24to hear from you i will just quickly share before we get back to the phones i know some of
05:29you guys
05:29have been waiting for a while we'll get to you in one moment i just want to share my my
05:32question i've
05:33still got and it's in a similar vein as you i want to know how adaptable joe brady wants to
05:41wants to make this offense i want to know if he's gonna see the same way that he saw that
05:47the past game
05:47was working on sunday against houston if he'll see if james cook is ripping through detroit on on thursday
05:54night i want to see that he's ready to commit to whichever one of those i don't want him to
05:59have
05:59to my point yesterday about keeping yourself ever evolving and changing and keeping the
06:04opposition guessing right anamorphosis was the used right i want to know that he will be willing to
06:12identify what's working and push the pedal down there no matter what that looks like if they need
06:18to go from 11 personnel to 12 and they need to put kinkade out in the slot and like run
06:23it that way
06:24and that's how they're going to win a game i want to know that he's ready to do that well
06:27the most
06:28basic thing in coaching specifically on offense is find an edge and exploit it so if you've got a bunch
06:35of different ways to look for different edges and then settle into what you're going to do that's kind
06:40of the perfect way to do it it won't always be on display in such a linear fashion where it's
06:45like
06:45we are here to run the ball i have changed my mind we're going to try something else this is
06:50working better this is the direction we're going it might not always look that smooth but i'm
06:54encouraged by game one of this guy as a head coach and still offensive coordinator slash play caller i
07:00guess you know p carmichael's officially the oc but play calling he's done it one time and i didn't
07:06see him you know gag on it at all right you know there was no uh hesitation overwhelmed none of
07:13that
07:13happened yeah so that's encouraging for sure want to know undefeated undefeated never lost
07:20four oh really they cut the preseason games we haven't watched joe brady lead this team to a loss
07:24yet true i'll take it hey tom and wheatfield you're on wgr hello hey how are you doing guys
07:31great tom all congratulations on the on the slot thank you that both you guys got
07:36and i want you i think you do know i am well i'm friends with your dad and uh kind
07:41of anyways we
07:42met a while ago and uh you were named after owen nolan you know that right i do i do
07:46vaguely
07:47you know loosely named after owen nolan i think it was sort of a convenient justification for the old
07:53man yeah i never forgot that so anyways um i have a problem with that i know rick ricky called
08:02with
08:02this other guy freddie or whatever his name was at the end he he totally stole my thunder i hate
08:08that
08:08i mean you got a guy who's like in stride run 20 miles an hour i don't need him blowing
08:14a hammy
08:15you know or just like going down trying to stop on a dime for anyone who wasn't listening half an
08:21hour ago when this came up uh we're talking about josh palmer on the game-winning touchdown a caller
08:25said it is unconscionable that he didn't catch the ball and then go down short of the goal line
08:30to help run out the clock to secure the victory um many problems exist with this argument and i the
08:37thing is i don't want to shoot it down because i think like that a lot i care so much
08:41about clock
08:42management because that's that's something you can actually control you know you're playing against
08:46another team and they're going to try to disrupt everything you're doing you can control the clock
08:51or attempt to uh give yourself an advantage with that so i think about it all the time but you're
08:55right the the speed with which he's going he's got to make the catch he's never had a touchdown
08:59for the bills touchdown gives you the lead you're almost out of time anyway in a slightly
09:04different situation maybe you're thinking about the clock but the fact that you're down in the game
09:08and need to score i don't want to make it a field goal i want to make it a touchdown
09:11and get the two
09:12and you didn't get the two and that that kind of hurts the argument a little bit but i i
09:17get it it just
09:17that wasn't the right moment to to have this argument about it i don't think brent brent and also the
09:23thing with uh i mean bad is just coming back i don't need him drilling off the upright you know
09:29yeah
09:29i mean what the hell i mean how what a disaster that would be on the program the next morning
09:34really come on right anyways well matt's got eliminated yesterday so i'm a little bit sad
09:41sorry matt's expected anyways have a good day guys all right you too yeah matt's out dodgers and
09:47yankees both got in yesterday as well um we're getting there as exciting as it is that the nfl season
09:54has started playoff baseball is coming too and the sabers are like two weeks away from playing a regular
09:59season game which is insane to me it's crazy training camp opens on thursday yeah we just
10:05had the prospect stuff the last couple of days too hockey's a real thing again absolutely baseball
10:09playoffs are coming and uh the nfl is here and the bills play twice in the span of five days
10:14i mean
10:15we are halfway between games right now this is amazing it's great i'm very excited about the whole
10:20thing yeah detroit coming in short week but i think it's gonna be i think it's gonna be fun it
10:26feels
10:26like short week is bad but the best time to have a short week would be after a win on
10:32the road
10:33opening up a new stadium against another you know big time opponent i i think it works all right i
10:39don't
10:39think we're gonna see the standard thursday malaise that kicks in sometimes um when teams are just kind
10:45of beat up and not ready to play yet i just i don't think there's any way that the bills
10:50don't come
10:51into this one obviously they're not fully rested but they don't have a ton of injuries to deal with
10:57i think it's fine uh alex in rochester you're on wgr hello hey gentlemen thanks for having me
11:03thanks for going i just wanted to you know clarify the end of game clock management because that
11:12caller was it was just straight up wrong that we could bleed the clock down and i can run through
11:18kind of the sequence of events to clarify because i i just think it should be go for it so
11:22palmer scores with one minute 36 we texans have two two timeouts assuming he goes down at the one we
11:31take a knee two seconds come off texans timeout one minute 34 seconds knee again on second down
11:37two seconds come off 132 seconds texans timeout we knee again on third down we can run 40 seconds off
11:46the clock 52 seconds we can call a timeout on fourth down we have to kick so we can assume
11:54maybe four or five seconds come off that leaves 47 seconds left when the bills kick back off to the
12:01texans so the texans have 47 seconds left to get let's say 30 40 yards to have a shot at
12:09a field goal
12:09with fairbairn and they're up two so field goal loses them the game so brad you need to just be
12:15straight up against this guy like we can bleed the clock down like he's just straight up wrong
12:21yeah and we it's not really even a choice yeah and one of the reasons i'm happy we have joe
12:28brady
12:28you know just i just think we're in a better position having an offensive coach and he hasn't
12:33shown it to us yet but i've been assuming that he's going to be a lot better at clock management
12:38and until he proves us otherwise i'm going to give him that benefit of the doubt so yeah there
12:44is something to be said for the clock management guy being the offense guy because all of that kind
12:50of fits together on defense you stop the book you know stop the clock when you can but you can't
12:54really manage the clock super well aside from like deciding to take a timeout before the two
12:58minute warning or after the two like there's some stuff there but you're right thinking like a
13:03madden player is probably a good uh good start yeah to having good clock management so all right
13:12i'm with you alex i'm not ready to turn my back on ricky though because i like the thought process
13:17and i like having conversations about it because i think about that stuff all the time but you're
13:21right like you are um clarifying this the the part of it that i couldn't quite put in words while
13:28trying to wing it live it was i thought of it when they had the ball and then it was
13:32like if they get
13:33down there and it's going to be a field goal anyway you'd better work on this clock thing and and
13:38no
13:38you couldn't necessarily bleed it down to zero and kick as time expired but the closer you get the
13:43better you take their timeouts away there is something to be said for it so alex i'm on your side
13:48more than ricky's but i'm not turning my back on ricky i still want him thinking like that and calling
13:53and bringing up these scenarios can we agree on that no i think i'm with alex i think i'm with
14:00alex thanks man i i i think i would i think i would always take the touchdown with that amount
14:07of time than the field goal with them having the ability to win it on the field goal that's way
14:12too
14:12scary for me because that's you know kickers now fairburn's a good care he hit from 57 easily and the
14:19touchdown had they gotten a two-point conversion is it makes it seven granted they're still in a
14:25spot where they could come down score six and decide to go for two but you're forcing a lot do
14:29not do
14:30that and you're probably not going to do that at home you do that when you're on the road and
14:34you're
14:35the dog and you're like we got a chance to get out of here when you're the saints and you've
14:39got a
14:40chance to win it on a two-point conversion you try for it i get that i don't think anybody
14:44gets mad
14:45about that no i i would i would do that every chance i got bills did it against the chiefs
14:49a couple years ago
14:49alan slips at the goal line right you know and it was but but it wasn't i don't even remember
14:54an
14:54argument about the decision i wasn't hosting a show here every day but i talk about the bills every
14:58day and um i don't remember it was like yeah try to win the game go go get them 8030550
15:04we like to
15:05connect with the fans courtesy of norhtown kia i have one other thing i'd like to mention and it no
15:09i've
15:09got two things one portions of wgr midday is brought to you by tim hortons the official coffee of the

15:57all right
15:57a lot going on a lot going on we got a lot going on here and uh wgr changes good
16:03guests we got how
16:04that's all the afternoon show yesterday al michaels dan come on it's awesome it's pretty good it's
16:11really been fun it's been a fun listen you know if i if i could say so not even including
16:15our show i'm
16:16just thinking about the morning show our show doesn't have the the a-list guests but our show
16:20wasn't a show until yesterday right so i think that's a part of it like a lot of things were
16:24being
16:24planned and it was a bunch of guests on the morning show weekly guests a bunch of guests on the
16:28afternoon show and then also what the hell's going on for middays precisely and so solving middays
16:33was its own thing so we've got friends we've got rolodexes we will have some guests oh yeah or
16:38we'll just hang out here the three of us brad tim owen and take phone calls yeah because we got
16:43plenty of those i mean plenty of guys have been great all right let's go to clarence next for ray
16:47ray you're on wgr what's up hey guys hey for brad how ironic you i think i have this i
16:53used to
16:53produce for uh owen's dad i did many years ago and before owen was even an owen and now here
16:59you
16:59are working with him yep i well i was talking to owen the one day and said how long have
17:03i known
17:03you and i was like wait i've known you the whole time i've not i remember when you were born
17:07so and yeah my first full-time radio show radio job was working with bulldog on ben and now owen's
17:15first like regular show is with me here owen was the ring bearer in my wedding in 2009 so like
17:21yeah
17:21this works out all right so all right here's what i'm gonna say uh the colin coward question
17:27sparks some some different thoughts i was the one that called a couple weeks ago and started
17:31the whole wall of fame criteria and all that and i went on a stadium tour yesterday and one of
17:36the
17:36things that the guy asked me or asked us was you know who do you think should be put next
17:40and i
17:40thought eric molt but then you know my uncle said why not cornelius bennett you know and i'm and i
17:45i
17:46thought he was already in there but then with colin coward's comments and and i'm i wanted to be
17:51totally unemotional i just want to deal with facts and maybe i'm calling the wrong people because
17:55we're all the same age or at least me and you brad um we need probably at least a 60
17:59year old
17:59guy when it's all said and done at this organization is it oj or is it josh that is the
18:07more most dynamic
18:08now i'm only go by i'm 53 i only know what i've heard and what you know the reputation just
18:14football
18:15and unemotional other stuff is it a tie i mean i don't want to be because he's in the presence
18:20who do you think at this point and no one i know you weren't even a thought but but but
18:26people have
18:26opinions you know from what we've heard i mean i'm just saying because it's an in-between game day
18:31thing and you know it's kind of a time filler but i like to think about these things you know
18:35when i called about the hook and ladder yeah i love the hook and ladder you know so these are
18:39the
18:39things that go through my mind and just wondering your opinion my opinion is that we're the story's not
18:46written yet on josh but i it didn't take i mean it was probably his third year or so where
18:52i was
18:53looking at him saying well this is the best thing i've seen and i've always had a um you know
18:58even
18:58pre-radio when i get into these conversations who's the best this of all time i will only say the
19:04best
19:04this that i've ever seen like the best single season by a pitcher to me happened in 1985 but i
19:13was 11
19:13and it was my favorite player in dwight gooden i was how does that compare to something that bob
19:19gibson did or that koufax did i don't know how do i compare thurman thomas to oj back in the
19:25day
19:25i was very good at having conversations this was pretty standard fair suny geneseo in the mid 90s
19:31to stand around a keg where one guy's got thurman thomas and another guy's got emmett smith and another
19:37guy's got barry sanders and we're debating which of the three you would want on your team like that's
19:42a conversation i can have i have to defer to people and you know and you're deferring too so
19:47don't don't blame me you know i'm younger than you are sure sir um i i don't feel capable of
19:55i don't know what it felt like to be in the building when oj simpson got the ball sure i
19:59don't know what
19:59it felt like to be in the building when in his prime jilbert perot got the puck behind the net
20:05but
20:05that's what i hear about that everybody would just stand up because here he comes like i don't i don't
20:09know what i didn't see i know late stages perot i saw him score his 500th goal i knew he
20:15was great
20:15but he wasn't great anymore when i saw him his legend was great so i am i don't feel qualified
20:22to say anything about josh allen versus a guy i never actually saw play i will say he's the most
20:29entertaining thing i've seen on a football field yeah i i have total respect for what oj did on the
20:36football field and appreciate how incredible it all was i have a hard time thinking that just by
20:44def like just think about the definition of dynamic which is the question here how a quarterback couldn't
20:49be more dynamic but than the running back i think it's just a it's a position where you're allowed to
20:54do more that impacts the game in that way where you like josh can run and throw oj could just
21:01run
21:02and or you could you know catch balls too but it just is not i don't think it's necessarily
21:08super complex well you're starting a team would you rather have the best quarterback in the league
21:11or the best running back in the league and it's pretty pretty simple pretty easy pick so there's
21:15a bias in that direction there's also a bias based on what we're watching now and what we've been
21:20watching for nine years and what we saw on sunday and what we're going to see on thursday so you
21:24know
21:25i'm not here to tell you that anything has ever existed that's better than that guy on this team
21:29right especially on a team that's never won a super bowl no right if oj led the team to
21:33multiple super bowls from the running back position somehow um it would be a different story but now
21:40it's like and it's kind of how you wind up for the past let's say five years where it's uh
21:46mahomes is
21:47clearly better than josh allen because of the championships like okay his football card looks
21:55better than josh allen's football card but if we're putting them both out on the field and i get
21:59to pick which guy i want on my team today i know that i'm taking the one that doesn't have
22:04the super
22:04bowls so you know it's just all of it we end up just talking in circles yeah uh 803 05
22:1150 we'll go
22:12back to uh tim next different tim hey tim you're on wgr what's up hey guys welcome to the uh
22:19welcome to
22:20the new show i love it thank you appreciate it thank you i've been listening to it the entire
22:24time it's been on yesterday and today both a lot of content for you and before that too don't worry
22:32i got two things number one for all the fans who thought or or pseudo fans who thought that a
22:38second round draft pick was too much to give up for dj more how do you like me now well
22:44okay listen
22:45i respect it he was great they were probably gonna cut him they were probably gonna cut him
22:52the bears were probably gonna cut him and they paid a second round pick for dj more i think it
22:56was a little steep i i appreciate what the player has done now but i don't think we should retroactively
23:01change that fact they were trying to get rid of him and they paid a heftier price than i think
23:06many
23:07were expecting well i think i think if he gets more touchdowns like if he gets one touchdown
23:12a game maybe you can look back and go you know maybe maybe it wasn't such a bad thing to
23:18make
23:18sure that none of the other 31 teams got a shot you know at at picking him up i got
23:24one more thing
23:24real quick let me just you we'll get back to you but i'm a hundred percent with you i it
23:30never once
23:31crossed my mind that a second round pick was too much for dj more zero percent did i like fair
23:38i mean
23:38if i could have drafted dj more in the second round this year and know that nobody else could
23:43get him i would have done so so why would i not do that in advance of the draft a
23:48thousand percent i
23:49think that is that's a nothing if you that's a guy you want and you think improves your team
23:54it's the digs trade again it's yeah i want a dynamic young-ish receiver to come in here and
24:03improve me tenfold because everybody else gets to drop down if you put somebody new at number one
24:08and you're asking less of everybody else i a hundred percent want to make that move and i
24:13don't trust that the fifth or sixth rookie in the draft class is going to just be that guy i
24:19mean
24:19think about marvin harrison would you would you have traded a second round pick for marvin harrison
24:23would you use the fourth overall pick for marvin harrison jr they hate him they hate him right now
24:28hate him so an established professional added to your receiving uh your quarterback's arsenal
24:34is to me a wiser move than rolling the dice on a new guy okay back to you tim all
24:41right the second
24:41one i've been holding on to this one for uh since cut down day i'm glad that the bills decided
24:46to keep
24:47four touched uh i'm sorry four tight ends uh because keeping kalani latu was the thing to do
24:57that's all he wanted to all right thank you well done i do stuff like that i get songs in
25:01my head
25:02all the time and things match up with the names and like the syllables i get what just happened
25:07there all right uh you want to take a break owen let's do it you seem exhausted oh i'm so
25:11tired of
25:12you already brad wgr midday is driven by north town automotive it features me and tim graham who's
25:18gone and owen parker who's here and this is wgr
