00:00That is going to be our perfect coverage play of the game brought to you by UnitedHealthcare
00:04right here for Western New York teams on and off the field.
00:08Man, look at all these points today.
00:10Isn't that like, we already had the conversation about where we're at in the NFL with such
00:16a short preseason that so many teams just pass on to begin with.
00:20Then week one, how maybe surprising it is that teams can score like right out of the
00:28gate this way.
00:28There's got to be a point in here about defense, but you have, how many games went for more
00:33than 60?
00:34Detroit, Cincinnati, the Bears game went for 96 points, one of the highest scoring games
00:38ever.
00:39Bill's 77 points, Baltimore was 64, and we still have five or six games to go.
00:44Just kind of a wild day.
00:45Not what I would have assumed for week one.
00:48Starting with Bill's Texans, which was supposed to be, you know, 20 to 17 or something around
00:53that.
00:54This guy was there.
00:56Sal Capaccio with us now on the West Her Hotline.
00:59Sal, what do you think?
01:00This was most, for the most part, surprisingly a wild game.
01:05100%.
01:05Crazy.
01:06I mean, I mean, we were not even out of the first quarter and there were already a couple
01:12scores.
01:13There was a hook and ladder.
01:15I mean, yeah, everything happened in this game, right?
01:20I mean, it was wild.
01:21And, you know, I've been saying all year, I've been telling you guys that I think what we're
01:25in for this whole year is this real kind of high variance type of football, you know,
01:29and a high event, right?
01:31It's what we talked about months ago.
01:32And really, we saw it today.
01:33It's going to happen all year.
01:34I'm telling you.
01:35Like, this is going to be pretty much, when they play really good teams, especially,
01:39it's going to be wild stuff happening on both sides of the ball and hoping that your
01:44team makes the critical plays at the end, which the Bills did today.
01:50How much, Sal, do you think, just watching the game live, and I know you'll pour over
01:54it again, and we'll have more, you know, more detailed conversations, but man, I got to tip
02:02my hat to Joe Brady.
02:03Whatever plan they came up with, I felt like Daniil Hunter and Will Anderson Jr. might as
02:10well have been, I don't know, any two edge rushers in the league, really.
02:15And I know they're not.
02:16I know those guys are monstrously talented and dangerous, and I really feel like I barely
02:22know they were on the field.
02:24Yeah, for sure.
02:25I mean, we'll have to go look exactly what they did, but I feel like, I feel like they
02:28didn't keep Josh stationary that much, and when they did, he got rid of the ball pretty
02:31quickly.
02:32Play action helped today.
02:33When you can run the ball effectively like they did early, and give the Texans credit,
02:37they really did a nice job to shut down the Bills' run game, mostly in the second half.
02:41But that first half, James Cook was going, and the Bills used play action very effectively.
02:45Then they got Josh on the move a little bit, right?
02:47And look, I do think that they trusted their tackles.
02:50I know what happened last year, but I think that those guys knew that they were up against
02:53it, they wanted to redeem themselves, and they went into this game and said, you're
02:56going to help us out, and we're going to be one-on-one again, and you're going to do
03:00your job.
03:01They opened up the game with three tight ends.
03:03They went back to it.
03:03They ran a lot of 13 today.
03:04I don't know the numbers.
03:05I'm going to go back and look at it.
03:07They ran a lot of 13 today.
03:08So one running back, three tight ends, so people know.
03:10And that was just something that probably made the Texans stay a little bit on their heels
03:16and know when you're in 13, the run is probably coming.
03:18But there goes Josh Allen, drop him back.
03:20There were a couple of times that they got him, but yeah, for the most part, I just
03:24think that they did a good job of not keeping him stationary, and when he did, when he was
03:29stationary, there were some quicker throws, some good outlets, getting the ball to, what
03:34do we talk about coming in this one?
03:36Maybe tight ends, right?
03:36Dalton Kincaid, highest yards receiving ever of his career.
03:40That was the matchup we talked about, that maybe they could find something in the defense
03:44of the passing game, and that's where it was.
03:45The Bills went from 32nd last in the league last year in average depth of target, which
03:51is insane to think about, to what was today, 12 yards maybe per target.
03:57I mean, they threw the ball.
03:59Sal, we didn't get Joe Brady.
04:01I don't know, did you happen to be present for him?
04:04No, I was in the locker room.
04:06We'll have him now, and we will have him, but no, I was not able to hear him.
04:10Okay, well, you've kind of made all the points maybe just before about what they did on offense
04:15today, but what a great result for him, needless to say.
04:19I mean, with all the speculation about him and all the guesswork trying to figure out what
04:24of the last two-plus Bill seasons were really up to him in terms of strategy and scheming
04:30and the rest, but man, today couldn't have gone better for him.
04:35No, I agree.
04:36Look, I think that there are going to be times this year, I'm telling you, as much as it sounds
04:41weird because we love the high variance, like I said, and throwing the ball downfield and
04:45being aggressive, and that's what the Bills should be, and they have Josh Allen, there's
04:47no doubt, but there's going to be times this year where I bet I'm talking with you guys
04:51going, man, they maybe should have dialed it back a little bit.
04:53They should have been a little bit more conservative in a certain situation.
04:56I mean, I think that throw that Josh Allen made was very ill-advised.
04:58It should have been picked, and the game is probably over.
05:02If Lasseter holds onto the ball, the game is probably over.
05:04He should not have thrown that.
05:06Someone looked at me and said, that's kind of what Drake May did the other night, right?
05:09Where everybody was all over him.
05:10Why'd you throw that football?
05:11But this is the life we're going to live, and because they have Josh Allen, I think they
05:17can get away with living that life a lot more than pretty much any other team, and a lot
05:20more positively than negatively, but I do think there's going to be times this year where
05:24we may go at the end of it and say, you know, maybe they should have just dialed it back
05:28a little bit, not been as aggressive, but for them to put up 36 points against this
05:34defense, it's pretty unbelievable to me, actually.
05:36To throw for 334 yards against this defense is pretty amazing, actually.
05:42Sal, recognizing that this game's only been over for a little more than an hour, and you
05:45weren't in the room for Brady's news conference, Mike and I took a run at injuries just, you
05:50know, from observing the game on TV like we did.
05:53You know, Cole Bishop was down for a bit, you know, returned, same for Terrell Bernard,
05:59same for D.J. Moore, just looking for any kind of, you know, info on injuries as we get
06:05the injury report.
06:06The Barnes Firm injury report, by the way, brought to you by the Barnes Firm.
06:09If you've been injured in a car crash, call the Barnes Firm, 1-800-8-Million.
06:14I don't believe there was really anything.
06:15I didn't see the D.J. Moore one that you guys are referring to.
06:17I didn't see anything with him.
06:19There was nothing brought to our attention, so maybe there was something on TV they showed.
06:22Did he go in a tent or something?
06:23I don't believe so.
06:24I think he went to the tent.
06:25He got rolled up, I think, on the Cook fumble play.
06:28He got caught up in the wash and got rolled up on.
06:31And then I saw him, before he returned, standing on the sideline right behind Joe Brady, sort
06:36of stretching and trying to, and he did come back in, they said on TV, that he returned.
06:41I think he might have been on the field during that last drive that resulted in the Josh Palmer
06:46touchdown.
06:47But he did go to the tent, I understand.
06:51And everybody returned.
06:53So, Terrell Bernard came back.
06:54I'm guessing that might have been a cramp.
06:56It didn't look very serious.
06:57As soon as he went off the field, he went right to the bench and he sat there.
07:00No trainers around him, anything like that.
07:03And then the other one you mentioned was Bernard.
07:06Cole Bishop very early, I think.
07:07Cole Bishop early.
07:09He went back in the game.
07:09You know, the funny thing is, it was a knee injury, but he was, they immediately announced
07:13he was probable to return.
07:14So, he went into the locker room early at halftime to get more, to get kind of ready and treatment
07:19or whatever.
07:19Then he came back out.
07:22And then there were a couple of guys rotating in, like IGB and Max Harrison is an interesting
07:25story today.
07:26I don't think there was any injury there because they were both rotating in some capacity.
07:30And then, same thing at linebacker when you saw Caleb Elarm-Zor and Doreen Williams, but
07:34I don't believe any of that was due to injury.
07:35I think that was just what they wanted to do personnel-wise.
07:38What's the Houston reaction to this likely to be?
07:41I mean, are they going to be reeling the defense that was all so hyped, with good reason, got
07:47cracked here?
07:48Maybe they'll take some satisfaction from what they were able to do on offense in this
07:52game, but to lose at home in a game where you had, I mean, there were, what, eight
07:56lead changes, seven or eight lead changes, is going to sting.
08:00For sure.
08:01I think if you're Houston after this game, you might chalk it up to, we just played Josh
08:05Allen, and he played it out of his mind.
08:08But is there any concern about a defense that's been great, you know, and they have great personnel
08:12and, you know, can we make sure that, you know, that's buttoned up the way it's supposed
08:18to be?
08:18I wouldn't overreact too much.
08:19If I was here in Houston covering this team, I would say don't overreact very much.
08:23In fact, you have CJ Stroud putting up 31 points.
08:25I think that's really good.
08:26David Montgomery running the ball.
08:27I think that they checked a lot of the boxes on offense.
08:30And we know that defense is really good.
08:32It's probably more of give credit to the opponent.
08:35The Bills did a really good job.
08:37So that would probably be the reaction here.
08:40Okay.
08:41Thanks for making time for us.
08:43All right.
08:44You got it, guys.
08:44You talk to you, I guess, tomorrow, this week.
08:46You had a quick turnaround, obviously, until Thursday.
08:49No kidding.
08:50Safe travels, bud.
08:51Thanks.
08:52But Sal Capaccio on the Western Hotline.
08:54The Bills win in Houston 36-31.
08:58Raiders now up two touchdowns on Miami.
09:00An Ashton Gentee touchdown catch.
09:0317-3 is the score.
09:05Kyler Murray knocked out of the game in Minnesota.
09:07Green Bay leads 12-3.
09:09Arizona up on the Chargers and driving late in the first half.
09:13Seconds left in the first half.
09:1410-7.
09:16Watch out there.
09:17And Philadelphia has lead on Washington 14-3.
09:21Dontavian Wicks, a touchdown reception for the Eagles.
09:24But Washington, under two minutes left in the first half,
09:28has the ball at the Philadelphia 1.
09:30Mike Schoep and the Bulldog here.
09:32The Bills beat the...
