00:00on yesterday what's your overall takeaway from what you saw yesterday what was uh I don't know
00:06what what fit your expectations and what didn't well it uh confirmed my priors in this regard
00:12I have been saying for a while guys that this is going to be a high event team both offensively
00:16and defensively uh as you know I've basically said we're going to live by risk and reward with
00:22this team this year both offensively and defensively meaning I think Joe Brady is going
00:27to attack and say I have Josh Allen and you don't and I'm going to let Josh Allen be Josh
00:31Allen
00:32and he's going to let Jim Leonard run his defense and that's going to be a very aggressive defense
00:37risk reward we saw all of that yesterday I mean all of it and I'm telling you it's not going
00:41away
00:42this way it's going to be every week especially against really good teams what um what do you
00:48make of the defensive performance because I'm hearing a lot of concern but what I watched didn't
00:54scare me at all I mean there are you know a couple breakdowns here and there uh what I watched
00:57I
00:58liked and then when I go back I thought well if people are complaining I should look at the stats
01:01and I look at the stats and stats look okay to me too um they didn't get destroyed on the
01:05ground
01:05they didn't get destroyed through the air um and they went and got after the quarterback and took
01:09the ball away a couple times so I mean it sounds like that's what they've been telling us they want
01:13to do and then they went and did it yeah you're right I I agree with you and I went
01:17back and looked at the
01:18the run game because people afterwards I'm like give me your arrows up and down and people like run
01:21defense like I don't know run defense wasn't that bad I mean let me go look at it you know
01:25where they
01:25got beat on the run in the run game was CJ Stroud leaking out and one end around by Nico
01:30Collins other
01:30than that there were a couple of it was a 12 and an 18 yard run but the running backs
01:35for the Texans
01:36averaged three and a half yards a carry yeah like that's great you take that any day of the week
01:41when
01:42you're playing in the NFL so they really didn't get cashed on the ground I think what happened though
01:45because there were a couple chunk plays and because Nico Collins got off a little bit early
01:49and they wound up giving obviously over 30 points it looks a little more crooked than it actually
01:54was but again we have been told by Jim Leonard this defense is going to be highlighting around
02:00their top players they're going to be aggressive um and that's what they did and you know what
02:05they made a critical play at the end and that's what you needed from this type of that's what you
02:09needed in this game and that's what you're going to need from this type of defense two critical
02:12plays I mean the sack and then all right I guess we have to do it again and this time
02:15we'll take the
02:16ball away to end the game um that was super impressive who uh all right your arrows up
02:21arrows down when you think about that d line do you walk away thinking more about Deion Walker
02:25or about uh Greg Russo more about Greg Russo because I think I already know that Deion Walker
02:31is going to be a really good player in the interior and he's going to make plays like that I
02:35need Greg
02:36Russo to be what he was yesterday I need Greg Russo to cause uh teams to say where is he
02:41when they line
02:41up you have to account for him as an edge rusher and Greg Russo by doing what he did yesterday
02:47is
02:47going to move that needle just a little bit so I think more about him because he's been he's been
02:52a good player for the bills no doubt he's a good three down player but the bills also you know
02:57spent
02:57a first round pick on him to get him to get after the passer and that hasn't been a part
03:01of his
03:01repertoire as much as they've wanted and I think you got to be able to have him get to the
03:06passer and
03:07then you the strip sacks on top of it I mean when he has that length and he goes after
03:10the ball
03:10and he knocks the ball loose it's just that's the bonus there Deion Walker's gonna be a heck of a
03:14player he is a heck of a player and I do think about him a lot but I already know
03:18what that
03:18trajectory is after you know Greg Russo six years into the league I need him to step up to be
03:23a more
03:23of a pass rusher in this type of defense yep yeah so I think I think it's really exciting to
03:27see a
03:28couple of guys in Walker and Russo really flash and make big significant plays I think that's something
03:33this this fan base has sort of been craving from that defense for a long time moving to the offense
03:38in a
03:38similar vein I think there were two pass catchers that really made statements yesterday in in DJ
03:44Moore the new Bills number one wide receiver and Dalton Kincaid which of those two guys are you coming
03:49away thinking more about after this game I think it's a very similar question to ask on offense
03:54yeah I mean kind of both of them but I think it's Dalton Kincaid in the sense of when he's
03:58healthy and on
03:58the field he's been a difference maker I mean some of his metrics even from last year guys were
04:03amongst the best in the league when he was on the field he was I think he led the entire
04:07position group in the NFL and yards per route run but obviously he had some injuries he missed a few
04:11games and you know that really puts the Bills in a situation where they can't get the matchups they
04:15want we know DJ Moore is a number one receiver he is better than advertised I think even coming the
04:20Bills we've been saying that since watching him in training camp and you saw the athleticism and the
04:24the hands and everything he brings to the table on display you saw what a number one receiver does
04:28on that game-winning touchdown pass when he draws just a slight bit of coverage from the safety
04:33over top and Josh says he saw that he hits Joshua Palmer but man the reason why every team wants
04:39a
04:39number one receiver most teams have somebody they call their number one receiver most teams don't
04:43have a Dalton Kincaid they don't have a guy that can match up in the passing game especially when you
04:49go 13 personnel there's three tight ends in the field and the other team goes okay they're running
04:53at us here's our big boys and you say oh no this guy's gonna run past your linebacker right and
04:57that's probably how they got Kincaid matched up on Reed Blankenship on one of those long long hookups
05:02right and that's the kind of exposure that that that player provides you I think it's really going
05:07to be exciting to watch when you combine that with Moore and staying on the offense I mean we saw
05:14this
05:14team push the ball down the field more than we might have seen them all the last season it felt
05:18like
05:18yesterday is that something you expect to continue as the season progresses or do you think that the high
05:24scoring nature early in that game yesterday forced the bills into that position no this is going to
05:28be something I think oh and we're going to see every single week and going back to what I said
05:33to start the phone call it's kind of something that I've expected to happen but it showed up even more
05:38so yesterday probably because of what you said the second part there which is they kind of were forced
05:41to do it they knew they were in for a little bit of a higher scoring game so that kind
05:45of had to be a
05:45little bit more what you want to do as the game went on you couldn't lean as much on the
05:48running game
05:48and by the way give the Texans credit they shut the bills running game down in the second half
05:51and that kind of forced the bills that have to continue to throw the ball down the field but I
05:55don't think Joe Brady's just he he's not afraid he has Josh Allen he's gonna say look the philosophy
06:00the last nine years was kind of don't lose the game before you can win it right don't give the
06:06other team opportunities I don't think Joe Brady cares about that he's like I have Josh Allen you don't
06:10and I'm going to do this so yeah I think one of the stats of the day yesterday for me
06:14and I was
06:15doing some of this this morning pretty amazing last year Josh Allen the average depth of pass by
06:21him so from him to the target was just over seven yards 18th in the NFL amongst qualifying passers
06:28it was over 13 yards yesterday which was far and away number one in the entire league
06:34the next closest was 11.4 by Malik Willis
06:39um I just the way that you're saying like expect this to continue and then picturing the last time
06:44the bills played the lions I just checked to see what the uh the point total is the over under
06:49for that
06:49game because it should be in the mid 70s I would think it's at 52 and a half and my
06:54god that sounds
06:55like a lock does it not I'm not saying put your house on it but if the bills attitude is
07:01we've got
07:0260 minutes we can make some mistakes we'll correct for it and I would imagine um Joe Brady is a
07:07sensible
07:07human being you get to the fourth quarter and you're trying to protect the lead things change a
07:11little bit or you get to the fourth quarter and you're trailing things change a bit but the if the
07:15the standard mode of operation is I'm here to score as many points as I possibly can there's no way
07:22that
07:22total is under 52 and a half they hit the over under by halftime yesterday it was 45 and a
07:27half
07:28or 44 and a half they hit 45 right so yeah I'm the surface I mean but you know it's
07:31the NFL guys right
07:32you get to Thursday and suddenly you're in a you know 10-7 halftime game like who expected this who
07:37expected yesterday to happen considering you know what the bills were looking at in that defense but
07:40you're right I do think and I will say again I think this is what we're looking at all year
07:44when you're
07:44playing especially a really good offense when you're playing a good team I think you're in for
07:48the bills to be a very high event type of team both offensively and defensively and you know look if
07:53you go against the Miami Dolphins whose roster isn't very good and the bills don't need to do
07:57that and they have the game in control you're probably not looking at that sort of game but
08:00probably early on in this game I would expect something very similar to what we saw yesterday
08:04and look the Lions just gave up 400 passing yards to Tyler Shuck I know the game went to overtime
08:09but they gave up over 400 passing yards yesterday they also scored 31 points and won the game
08:14so guess what's coming a really high octane offense and a defense that the bills have seen
08:18now has given up some passing yards and points how did the bills come out of it uh injury wise

08:23not too much uh noticeable uh you know from watching the game DJ Moore wound up in the tent briefly
08:30what
08:30do we know about that uh if anything three players left the game all returned Terrell Bernard left the
08:35game briefly I think he might have just had a cramp it seemed like he jogged off the field and
08:39no
08:39trainers were near him he went back in the game Cole Bishop left the game just before halftime
08:43uh with a knee injury but he went in the locker room just to kind of get it sorted out
08:46before the
08:47give him a little more time before the rest of the team did he came back he played the second
08:50half
08:50and then DJ Moore got rolled up on that fumble that Osiris Torrance recovered a very big play by the
08:55way
08:55uh he gets an arrow up just for that hustling down the field recovering the ball uh when the bills
08:59were
08:59at their own four yard line um he went to the tent he came out he was on the field
09:04for the final play
09:05uh the offensive play the touchdown to Joshua Palmer so I think it's a great sign he also was on
09:10this morning with uh Jeremy and Joe and they asked him about he didn't reveal much he said he'll get
09:13treatment and get ready for the game short week what does that mean for this team right now as far
09:19as their their prep is concerned and what is a a three-day work week look like well look I
09:25I think
09:25that it's the perfect storm of coming back home in a good way after that kind of win to open
09:32up your
09:32new stadium in front of your fans a really really big game against a big game it's a really good
09:38team
09:38right I think it's uh it's kind of how you want it to be you don't want to be coming
09:41off a loss and
09:42like oh my god what happens if you go oh and two and I said this could really propel them
09:45you know
09:46through the first two weeks so what does that look like it's a short week Joe Brady and the
09:50coordinators will talk to the media today they'll be practiced tomorrow I'm sure Wednesday will be
09:53more of a walk through no media and then they'll get after it on Thursday night and for the Lions
09:57you'll have to travel it's not a far ride but it does matter when you travel in a short week
10:01you know typically when you play these Thursday night games if you play your own division teams you're
10:05very familiar with each other that's not the case here these two teams don't play a lot so I think
10:10you have to kind of keep things kind of as basic as possible until you get to the game and
10:14then you
