00:00doing it what's up owen not much so the way this is going to work on a regular monday through
00:05friday is that i'm going to sit down at 10 o'clock in this chair and tim graham will sit
00:11in that
00:11chair correct and then at noon tim will go and then you'll come in and i'll stay here and then
00:17we'll go until two o'clock that's the plan but the day following an opener in texas uh tim has
00:24an
00:24airplane to be on right now as does sal so typically we'll check in with sal as often as
00:29we can we'll have tim on every day right now no but good news bills played yesterday i think we
00:36can
00:36we can swing this ourselves probably feels like we should be able to if we've been given this four
00:41hour time slot right we'll figure it out um generally speaking here's what i here's what i was thinking
00:48as i was walking in the building i don't have anything prepared as far as like written out for
00:52what i want to say to start the show what i was looking for yesterday i'll take a win that's
00:59cool
01:00for sure i was looking for proof of concept that the success that this team has had just continues
01:09that everything's fine that all of the hand-wringing over the offseason about the stadium and the
01:16the coach and keon coleman and obstructed obstructed seats and turf and gray jersey all that
01:23it was like no no still the team that always goes to the playoffs still the team that usually wins
01:28the
01:29division still the team with josh allen still ready to go still disciplined enough to take care of
01:34business i wanted to see proof that it's still just the bills that was number one check check heavy
01:43check i would say can you grab a win to check to that that's it mission accomplished got out of
01:49it
01:49healthy to the best of my knowledge um and proved that they're still just the bills this is not a
01:57oh
01:57my god i can't believe it type of situation it's yeah they go into most games with a chance to
02:02win
02:03and if they get a break or two they win and if they get 10 breaks against them they lose
02:07and they didn't
02:07get 10 breaks against them yesterday so they didn't lose and they fought back uh the defense was
02:12aggressive the offense was aggressive bunch of points were scored bunch of points were allowed
02:16some mistakes were made want to know looks pretty good especially after we watched the patriots lose
02:21on thursday we watched the rams lose on friday or sorry wednesday thursday but you know what i'm
02:26saying yes um good teams went down the first two games of the season and to just step over that
02:34pothole and get into the one and oh club uh color me happy i guess is kind of where i
02:40said i uh i no
02:42notes uh i i completely agree i think that after the the start of this nfl window on the wednesday
02:49and thursday like you mentioned with the rams and the patriots going down in the fashion that they did
02:55i think i had a heightened sense of like oh i really want to win this game now and i
03:01really want them to
03:02look good because the teams that i'm worried about and thinking about and have been all offseason
03:07didn't yeah and i'm gonna feel good if they do and they did i think they did everything that you
03:15really wanted them to do yesterday i don't think you could realistically ask the defense to be good
03:20and everything else was pretty awesome and even the defense that wasn't good ended up having guys
03:29flash and make plays in a way that i think fans have really been craving well i don't remember the
03:35last time they closed out a game by sack followed by strip sack like back to back like oh we're
03:42in
03:42trouble here we're just going to need to make a play and stop this thing and they make the play
03:45and then
03:45they have to make another play and they do that too um i just thought it all it all went
03:51to the script
03:52that's been in our heads about what's the brady thing look like yeah it's more aggressive
03:57offensively but also it's going to be more aggressive defensively on the leonard side of
04:01things and it it worked and everything that i saw worked um i'm super impressed by the way that
04:12the defensive ends that destroyed this team last year did not destroy this team this year
04:16um and you know some of that was scheme some of it was just playing better i think it can
04:22be that
04:22simple that like oh okay we remember what you did to us last time and uh and and now we're
04:28more i don't
04:29know focused is the right word but um i i don't know i i just i don't want to five
04:37minutes into a
04:37four-hour show say i i'm good with that let's go to week two but it's it's almost that that
04:42like that
04:43was on the schedule the scariest game agreed and scary and bad things happened there were moments
04:52but you get out of it at 1-0 and it's not scary anymore and if i got to see
04:57that team again in
04:58the playoffs i now feel at least confident enough to go into it without the the dark cloud of the
05:07houston texans hanging over josh allen the number of times i heard house of horrors referred to for
05:13what's it called energy or it used to be reliant i think it's i think it's reliant stadium whatever
05:18it is i know that's what josh said when you're like oh we like it here now whatever whatever it
05:22is um i don't know murdering that demon was helpful um but when i was said and done i i
05:30mean i
05:30i feel the same way that i hoped i'd feel today and that is okay all the stuff we were
05:35thinking
05:36is possible all the stuff that we wanted to see we saw a bit of um let me jump out
05:42right now and
05:43say oh that's the dalton kincaid you guys have been talking about to me for four years i came back
05:49from the first ub game saying i wish dalton kincaid played like clint walker from ub because that guy in
05:57one game looked to me more like the dalton kincaid that has been described to me over the course of
06:02his
06:02tenure with the bills than dalton kincaid has until yesterday when dalton kincaid looked like
06:10a guy you would draft in the first round to be a weapon in your passing game cool i've been
06:15as careful
06:16as i can to not be all over him i'm not i'm not trying to bash dalton i'm just i
06:22just i don't see
06:23anything i dislike i just don't understand what people are talking about when you know uh uh some
06:31reporter from the texan from houston is on a show on wgr and like well what are the texans that
06:37well
06:37they've got to stop dalton kincaid like well you can do that that's no big deal like that's how i've
06:42always been thinking but everyone says it it's like over the top oh this guy's a massive weapon and i
06:47don't know why it's programmed and everybody else has said maybe other people saw this game at some
06:51point before but i never have i think it was a lot of efficiency in limited sample sizes that
06:58and people were very interested to see if it would track out over more snaps in a game or more
07:05games
07:05in a season and we saw last night or yesterday afternoon i should say a glimpse of like okay
07:12there's a there's the there's the guy and there's him being out there more and and available and doing
07:19the thing that we all think he can do and that he's done in little blips throughout his career here
07:24while being riddled with only playing 40 of the snaps and being hurt half the time and you know
07:31we're finally into a okay that's what it looks like when he is on the team with a number one
07:39wide
07:39receiver and dj more i think yeah we get to that that's a force multiplier we've said that i don't
07:44know how many times in the morning about that that player the presence of dj more will allow a guy
07:51like kincaid to be better and to matter more for you and to make a bigger impact than he has
07:58in the
07:58past because a lot of the time coming into these games it was like stop shakir and kincaid and that's
08:04it now it's you have to stop dj more first and foremost then you worry about shakir and then you
08:09worry about kincaid and then you worry about everybody else forget about palmer and then he
08:13scores a game-winning touch exactly and that's exactly what josh allen said happened on that play
08:19he goes i we didn't i never wanted to throw that ball to him we've never practiced it but they
08:24were cheating on dj so guess what that's what was there and that that is the epitome of the argument
08:31that i think we've all made on this station for years about this team offensively is get a guy that
08:37can do that and make everybody else's life easy what is the the phrase you used that sounded video
08:42gamey force multiplier force multiplier where's that come from because i like it i'll never use it
08:47myself but i like it i don't know where it originates from i've i've heard it for a long
08:52time in hockey about uh goaltending wise i used to be told about how you can become a force multiplier
08:59for a team's good defense if you are also good and it sort of compounds your strength and it allows
09:06your strength to flourish in a way and so i don't know who said it to me first if it
09:11was some usa coach
09:12or you know what i'm not sure somebody's credit but it sounds like mario brothers more than it
09:16sounds like usa it sounds like a power-up that comes out of a question mark cube yeah which yeah
09:20which i love um and i think makes sense and i think is it was very much in evidence going
09:27back to the
09:28the preseason game the the couple of drives that they had against carolina where right away you're
09:33like don't forget dj morse here and oh he's i know he's shallow so you don't have to worry about
09:37oh he
09:37just went for 31 yards and then the rest of that drive and the following drive they're playing catch
09:43up on the whole thing because they're worried about this and now that's open and that's open
09:46and that's open um and i think that all worked uh perfection might be the wrong phrase but it's pretty
09:52close i mean how different is this game if uh you know if a fourth and one goes differently on
09:58the
09:58first drive of the game to be honest you know like if deon dawkins gets that block or if josh
10:03doesn't slip a little and can turn the corner there you know it's probably a different game but
10:08i like that they were able to play in a back and forth game like that offense compliments defense
10:15compliments offense you know like you weren't relying on one side of the ball right um is this
10:22an entirely different conversation if the pass before the touchdown pass is caught by lassiter
10:28on his back in the end so yeah it's probably different for sure but also you know might the bills
10:32have gotten the ball back and had a chance with 19 seconds left or whatever yeah right this this
10:38is the team you've built you've built the team that is the favorite in the afc to go to the
10:43super
10:44bowl and went on the road to one of the toughest places specifically for your team but one of the
10:49toughest places to play against one of the best defenses in the league and you just went blow for
10:53blow with them and came out with the victory and they easily could have come out with a loss there
10:57and i still would have felt just about the same way about the team i didn't like openly predict a
11:04loss but when going through these games with tim a couple weeks ago like what ones can they lose
11:09can't they lose this was for sure yeah they could lose that one absolutely um i had the lions as
11:14one
11:14that they can't lose and tim didn't believe me i just said i couldn't envision it now i can envision
11:20it because they're want to know if they were oh and one going it because i was picturing a loss
11:25right it's picturing kind of what we saw but about a loss so the win is a bonus and then
11:30you know four
11:31days later you're back at it against another real top tier team but you're in your new stadium like if
11:37they were oh and one going into that i couldn't picture it now i could picture them losing and
11:41honestly if you're going to lose games lose to the nfc teams that one yesterday is one that will pay
11:45dividends down the road um when you're getting into seeding and that kind of stuff uh come playoff
11:50time i'm making assumptions here that this is going to be the team that it's been for several
11:55years but that's what i got out of yesterday's game was confirmation that the show goes on this
11:59we are continuing what was happening under sean mcdermott it took a little bit of a twist but that's the
12:05same team with a little bit of a you know a few extra gadgets yeah to your point i think
12:10if i think i
12:12turned to my my old man at one point during the third or fourth quarter when it got a little
12:17sketchy late and i said i kind of think they're fine no matter what way this game goes here because
12:23brady has proven that he's gonna do more offensively that the offense is gonna be different
12:29and more aggressive and willing to push the ball down the field in the way that they haven't been in
12:33the past with brady and the defense looked shaky which i think everybody that was honest with
12:42themselves could have expected and to me i i felt like all right brady's answered the questions i
12:47needed him to answer here in this game and and the defensive ones were going to be there whether they
12:51won or lost this game to me and so them getting a win like you said is a big bonus
12:57that now you get
12:59to put in your back pocket of like all right now you're in the one seed chase thinking about that
13:04late in the season this is a big win for that i think and that's very valuable and i i
13:12wouldn't
13:12have felt good if they lost but i think i would have felt okay about it and the fact that
13:17they didn't
13:17and that they went down and won and that they made those plays those two defensive plays deon walker
13:22and greg russo at the end makes me feel very excited about the potential of this thing building from here
13:28because to your point i think they proved that they can absolutely be what they've been
13:33but i think what we have now is the opportunity and the hope that they can be more and that
13:38is
13:39exciting and i think that was the entire ethos of this whole change was it not was that not why
13:45you
13:45fired sean mcdermott you knew this is what you could be that you could be a 12 win team that
13:50goes on playoff runs and maybe you could make the super bowl but you haven't and you've had a bunch
13:55of
13:55runs at it now you are in all right that didn't wasn't doing it for us we think there's more
14:02here
14:03there's a higher ceiling here and we need different people around them to unlock it and i think
14:08that the offense looking how it did was really exciting and the the minutia of the plays that
14:16were made at the end should make you think that this defense has the potential to get better and be
14:21good and that to me is a different place than they've been after an opener even last year after
14:28they beat the ravens and came back like they did they were the same team they've been for the six
14:33years eight years before that this year they're a new team and they just did that yep and that's
14:38exciting yeah the ravens game felt like they stole it and it also felt like they were at home yeah
14:42well
14:42they were at home but it like it felt like that was a part of it yeah this was chalked
14:47up in my mind as
14:48one of your five losses this year it was going to be okay i was going to have to come
14:54in here and
14:54explain why it was okay and we you know that but i don't have to do that because they got
14:59the win so
15:00they checked all the boxes um i've heard many references not just from you to the defense being
15:07shaky i thought the defense was cool like i know montgomery went for three scores i know that one uh
15:14whatever 20-ish yard touchdown run would have been good from 95 i mean the way that that play went
15:20down he that was tough from bernard just untouched crazy looked like a drill you run in madden when
15:26they use the those things they move out of the way and you just look like that yeah um there
15:33was that
15:33and they had some trouble with nico collins and i don't know who wouldn't have trouble with a healthy
15:38nico collins he is among the best players in the league when healthy um think about what he did to
15:42them a couple years ago in the first half it was like they are dead and then he just didn't
15:46come out
15:47for the second half and then they were fine right because they didn't have to deal with him um stroud
15:51was pretty good i thought he was he impressed me there were a couple of throws layered in that i
15:57was
15:58like all right i doubted you a lot and that was good so good for you but it was i
16:05think two big
16:06mistakes by him that really cost them yeah and and we discount other quarterbacks because josh allen
16:11exists in this city that's a top draft pick that's a top tier people have high hopes he's about to
16:18be
16:18the next 70 million dollar guy probably um so that's who what you were dueling with in their
16:24house in a place that's been tough for you to win and you came out on top so i'll take
16:30one and oh i guess
16:31is is where i land uh phone lines are open for you all day at 803-0550 we've got tim
16:37graham joining us
16:38sometime in the one o'clock hour typically you'll hear from sal during this show the the new show
16:43wgr middays driven by norhtown with brad tim and owen no tim today owen all day me all day your
16:50phone
16:50calls all day 803-0550 bring it on um this is essentially a post game show that's what we're
16:55doing today we have no guests aside from tim tim in the one o'clock hour but you can't call
17:00him a
17:00guest because he lives here so you get what i'm saying all right let's start in connecticut with rob
17:05hey rob you're on wgr what's up rider and parker parker and rider show all right i'm loving it
17:12and um oh and man your future is bright you're a great addition hold on a minute a lot of
17:18stuff
17:20you are a great addition to the wgr family first and foremost thank you rob i really appreciate it
17:27and you are you are also a valued member of the uh wgr community rob we've been hearing oh i'm
17:31a
17:32goal card member i'm a goal card member i mean i keep track of how many times i call you
17:37guys
17:37it's like oh it's rob again from connecticut no seriously though um we we cut the head off the
17:44snake yesterday and that was a beautiful thing it was a game that i could appreciate um i definitely
17:50going into this game when new england lost i was like we we definitely need to win this game
17:56and uh we put a w stamp on it we made a statement and we now we get to push
18:02forward
18:02and prepare for this week um the only the only gripe that i have i don't want to say i'm
18:09complaining
18:10and there's other people that have said it before i mean the d line is ferocious i have no problem
18:18with that the condor i have no nicknames that i call the players russo is the condor and now i'm
18:25going to
18:25call deon walker godzilla and then you got terrell bernard who is t-bird so but the d-backs the
18:34backfield
18:34hopefully leonard you know get the gets in their head and i'm sure the players know where they made
18:41their mistakes just brush up on that we got a great season ahead of us hopefully our d-backs will
18:46step
18:47up a little bit um but offensively josh did what josh does and and that's a beautiful thing and as
18:54far
18:54dj moore great addition he's going to be a great decoy you know josh is going to find him down
19:00the
19:00field there's going to be times like yesterday he was a decoy which allowed parker to get that
19:05touchdown i mean uh yeah right uh palmer palmer um when palmer scored that touchdown and that's
19:12going to allow to open up to the other receivers as well so i'm really looking forward to see what
19:18happens during the season everybody stays healthy but i'm loving the d-line and uh i love you guys
19:26always catching up rider i hope you had a great time in miami i know it was your first time
19:31there
19:31it was um i hope you didn't do anything that i didn't do or i wouldn't do um i hope
19:36you're a good
19:37boy so other than that be well be safe i was all right i'm here right i'm back i made
19:42it back you made it
19:43yeah so when i last talked to you i'd never been to miami now i'm back and i've witnessed a
19:47football
19:47game at pitbull stadium there you go uh and uh spent a lot of time on airplanes and uh spent
19:52a lot
19:52of time with people who didn't speak english but my limited knowledge of spanish got me by there you
19:57go that's that's all you need you need a little bit just to get you through you know what um
20:01popped
20:02in my head listening to uh rob talk about the game the stars were the stars on offense i said
20:09the thing
20:09about kincaid but if you ask just a random person what do you got to do to stop the bills
20:14like well
20:14i mean obviously they have josh allen and now they've got dj moore and james cook led the league
20:20in rushing and you got to watch out for dalton kincaid and that's what it was yesterday that
20:24other people played roles but as far as the stars on the offensive side of the ball it was those
20:30people
20:30it was and i know cook's numbers didn't end up great but they clearly are showing respect for his game
20:36right that is helping to do everything else as well so there all of that was there um on the
20:41defensive side of things if we're doing nicknames i did have one pop into my head yesterday all right
20:46and i don't i'm not ready to declare it i almost texted it to somebody yesterday i was like nah
20:50i'm
20:51just gonna leave it in my head i didn't even write it down to talk about did i no um
20:56i started
20:57thinking about dion walker as the lifeguard yeah because of the swim move well there's a lot of
21:04reasons what do you think of what's the only word you've ever heard a lifeguard say
21:09no running okay almost walk walk sure walk so his name is walker yep and he is there to stop
21:17you
21:17from running correct so he's kind of like a lifeguard there's something there yeah it's not
21:21quite t-shirt ready yet right but there's something there i can see dion walker on one of those tall
21:27lifeguard chairs gut hanging out right there's almost a little bit of a floaty vibe to the mid
21:35section as well there's something help there's something it's not a hundred percent put together
21:40yet but dion walker as the lifeguard who prevents everyone from running is fun now i like this i want
21:45to stop people from passing too and i don't know who guards against passing but yeah lifeguard it came
21:50into my head again didn't not even good enough to write it down didn't want to text it wasn't going
21:53to tweet it didn't want it out there just fell out of my mouth now this is what you're going
21:57to get
21:57with live radio four hours a day here on uh wgr middays driven by north town 803 0550 to the
22:06phones
22:06we continue to go i think we'll probably take a bunch of phone calls today because the bills played
22:11and they beat the texans and they're one and oh and you got stuff to say about it we got
22:16stuff i got
22:16stuff everybody's got stuff mike in the falls you're on wgr hey hey good morning what's up
22:22uh just want a couple of comments i i give the bills a b plus on their overall performance i'm
22:29i'm happy with it uh coming under a new head coach a new defensive coordinator and a new scheme set
22:35up
22:35on defense uh so with that and playing in a stadium that they struggled in walking away with the win
22:41i'm overall pleased on their performance i'm not worried about anything i think just a couple things
22:46which you know the penalties hurt we need to cut back on we can't have double digit penalties
22:51even though that reffing crew is the most penalized crew you know they they throw the
22:55most penalties out of anybody number two i i just a couple of plays i think deon dawkins could
23:00sharpen up on his blocking assignments because there was a couple of them that sort of hurt us
23:05and lastly christian benford is good but when you're going up against nico collins i mean it looked like
23:09he was eating his lunch all day i think maybe there's some way that they could have gave him a
23:13little
23:13bit of help on there other than that i'm very pleased with how they played and go bill
23:17all right thank you for the call um i honestly nico collins is an absolute stud when healthy and
23:27i don't feel like he killed him he he yeah he got his he got his yards he got his
23:32catches he didn't
23:33kill him um deon dawkins is a good player going against between hunter and anderson two of the
23:44maybe the top defensive end pair in football i think or edge pair whatever we call that now
23:49um and they were a non-factor for the most part like i can think of the one specifically when
23:56the
23:56bills tried when josh tried to go left to pick up the the first down on the first yeah the
24:01first drive
24:02that that dawkins missed assignment was bad yeah he he missed something there but i'll i'll tell you
24:07right now i'll take that if he goes one-on-one on the last offensive snap of the game like
24:13he did
24:13and stonewalls his guy because that's what he did he allowed that brown and dawkins both are one-on-one
24:19against hunter and anderson on that last play and they both just eat him up yeah and they give josh
24:25the time josh steps up rips it on a rope down joshua palmer and that's the game yeah like listen
24:30if
24:31if it takes deon one series to get into the into the game and he misses a couple assignments but
24:36he's able to one-on-one shut down a guy like that in that spot sign me up i mean
24:41if you took every
24:42play from the game and i'm not going to but if you took every play and said who won that
24:46snap
24:47deon dawkins won most of his snaps for sure spencer brown won most of his snaps nico collins won most
24:53of
24:53his snaps too but i can let that slide you know 305 50 is the number it's middays driven by
