00:55Anyway, I went back, re-watched the TV copy, watched the coaches all 22 copy.

01:08It was as bad as the first time that I watched it.

01:14But no, I mean, look, when you have the baggage that Deshaun Watson has, when you have the lack of
01:24availability that Deshaun Watson has had,
01:26since getting that record at the time, contract from the Browns fully guaranteed, they're stuck with him financially from a
01:38cap computation standpoint for two more years that they have to deal with it.
01:44And I just, I mean, you had this quarterback competition this offseason, and he's named the starter, beats out Shadour.
01:54Or I just, I think the expectation that you at least look serviceable out there is okay for Browns fans.
02:03And he didn't even look serviceable at times.
02:06And, which is exactly what I saw in training camp.
02:09Hate to say I told you so, but I told you so.
02:12This is what he is.
02:13And, you know, the glimpses of bright light with him will be few and far between.
02:18They were few and far between on Sunday.
02:20And I have no expectation it's getting any better at that particular position until they make a change.
02:26Daryl, obviously, I put out the thing about Todd Munkin's comments about being positive and everything.
02:31But I think that got reinforced a little bit more Sunday after the game.
02:35He was basically asked, you know, Deshaun's still going to be the starter heading into week two.
02:37And he gave us some odd roundabout kind of answer about how he wasn't firing himself.
02:43And then went back, watched the tape, said it wasn't as bad as people thought it was, named him again.
02:48What does it say about Todd?
02:50What does it say about Deshaun that there was even any consideration in benching him after one week?
02:55Well, if we get 16 more games of this, don't worry, Todd.

03:00So that'll take care of itself.
03:02But, look, I've been very clear.
03:06I don't think that this is a two-week audition thing.
03:09I think that this is no less than four weeks.
03:12He will start the home opener.
03:14I know fans probably don't want that, especially if we get a repeat performance in Tampa Bay.
03:18But I just think that that's the reality.
03:20They're committed to the bit.
03:22And they are going to see the Titanic to the bottom of the ocean if they have to.
03:27So, you know, I think Todd Munkin is saying what he needs to say.
03:33And, you know, he's the one that made the decision to start Deshaun.
03:37He's going to stand by his decision, which you would expect.
03:40You know, in fairness to this whole thing, right, if he did make a change, okay, if the fans got
03:46their pound of flesh after one week, what are we sitting here doing tonight, right?
03:51We're criticizing Todd for being a reactionary head coach, knee-jerk reaction, whatever, even though I don't know necessarily a
03:59lot of people would have been upset with that.
04:01But you understand what I'm saying, right?
04:03You make a change like that.
04:05After you have this competition, you say, hey, Deshaun's our guy, gives us the best chance to score, move the
04:10ball, win games, whatever, right?
04:12Whatever excuse he pulled out of thin air, that's what you stand by.
04:17And I am a believer in you make a decision, you support your decision.
04:21And he's supporting his decision.
04:23So, certainly, from my perspective, I respect that.
04:26I disagree.
04:27I wouldn't have started Deshaun this past week.
04:29I would have started Shadur Sanders because I just don't see any blood from that rock to squeeze out of
04:36there.
04:36And the juice just is not worth the squeeze to begin with, but he made the decision to go with
04:42Deshaun, so he's got to, I think, kind of see this thing until they hit the iceberg.
04:47And, well, the iceberg is dead ahead.
04:49And that would be Tampa Bay, that would be Carolina, and that would be Pittsburgh, all sitting on that iceberg.
04:56So, you know, we'll see what happens the next couple weeks.
05:00Again, I'm not optimistic.
05:02He is what he is.
05:03But I don't think, regardless of what happens Sunday in Tampa Bay, my gut tells me that Todd Munkin will
05:13continue to stand by that decision for at least two more weeks.
05:16Daryl, you got to watch both of the quarterbacks for a majority of this offseason.
05:21Had Shadur been out there, do you think that game looks any different?
05:26I think that maybe they score another touchdown.
05:29Maybe it's a – maybe it's – you know, they don't beat Jackson – they're not beating Jacksonville, okay?

05:40See, you know, what I look at, and I had some people get on me because I dropped the almost
05:44had four turnovers.
05:47But here's the – he did.
05:48Like, that matters, okay?
05:50He made four big mistakes.
05:52He got away with a couple of them.
05:55Didn't get away with, you know, obviously the first big one, right?
05:58You open the game, you got momentum, you're driving deep into Jacksonville territory,
06:03and you can't see the same linebacker that you've been seeing all through training camp,
06:07and you throw it right to him again.
06:09And he – and it'd be something if – well, haven't seen that from him before,
06:13but if I didn't watch practice every freaking day in training camp
06:17and see him make that mistake a bunch of times prior to it,
06:22I'd probably be able to shrug it off.
06:24But when I see the same crap over and over and over and over again, right?
06:29We're told about the operation, smoother under Deshaun.
06:32How many false starts, alignment penalties, all this other pre-step nonsense going on,
06:38having to burn timeouts because they can't get it squared away, right?
06:41Like, you got the coach talking about the quarterback once he understood concepts.
06:46What the hell does that mean?
06:47Like, so, yeah.
06:49Yeah, of course I'm going to be hard on Deshaun Watts.
06:52He's making $46 million a year, okay?
06:55And he hadn't earned a penny of the $230 million that the Browns have paid him to date.
07:00So, yeah, I'm going to be real hard on that guy.
07:03And you got his quarterback coach going on social media saying,
07:07well, you know, hey, you know, none of y'all watched the tape.
07:09You watched the tape.
07:10He played pretty – it wasn't that bad.
07:12No, it was that bad.
07:14Your guy stinks.
07:15He doesn't have it anymore.
07:17Bye-bye, gone, go away, go do something else with your life.
07:22That's where we are with Deshaun Watson.
07:23Can't get him out of that building fast enough.
07:26But got to see this thing through.
07:28Got to live – now we got to live through the sacks, the interceptions, the fumbles,
07:32all this other nonsense.
07:34Fumbled twice.
07:35Luckily, replay overturned one.
07:37He fell on the other one.
07:38He tried his best to throw an interception on the second possession, okay, on third down.
07:43But, hey, at least they got the third down.
07:46Progress, right?
07:47Hey, third possession, you know, they got the punt.
07:51So, like, this is where we're at.
07:53Like, it is what it is.
07:55There's no fixing it.
07:57You know what I'm saying?
07:58And so you just got to – we just have to wade through this thing and let it play out.
08:05And at some point, they'll get a clue over at 76 Lugos Boulevard and pull the plug on this thing.

08:15I don't know that I've seen a quarterback take a seven-step drop multiple times in a shotgun formation.

08:20Yeah, and how do you blame the offensive line for that, right?
08:23They're blocking it like a 90-degree angle.

08:25I mean, that's unblockable.

08:29And look, now, I do want to be fair to Deshaun in this regard, right?
08:33And Lance Reisland and I talked about this on our review that we did for the 92.3 The Fan

08:43To be fair to Deshaun, it's just the whole thing looks disjointed, right?

08:47Offensive line, quarterback, and wide receivers, nobody's on the same page right now.
08:51Like, I think that that's fair to say that.
08:54But Deshaun's the quarterback.
08:56Get on the same page with everybody, buddy.
08:58Also, isn't that just a product of waiting until after the second preseason game to name your quarterback and going
09:03through this long battle?
09:04No, because they've been repping this.
09:11Jake, they have repped, lining up.
09:15Okay, here's what.
09:16They have taken periods of practice, okay?
09:20And by periods of practice, I mean, they're like 10-minute stretches in practice, right?
09:24They have taken periods of practice where Munkin calls to play, they're in the huddle, Deshaun calls to play, they
09:32go to the line of scrimmage, they do all the pre-snap alignment and shifting and motions and all that,
09:38right?
09:39They snap the football, and then they go on to the next card, the next play.
09:45And they did that for like 10 minutes of a time in practice, pretty much on a daily basis, going
09:51all the way back to the spring.
09:53Now, they would alternate, you know, first team, second team with Deshaun and Shadour.
09:59So, no, there's been plenty of time to get this together, okay?
10:05I'm not going to give them the excuse of that Todd Munkin's given, well, you know, he's just only been
10:09a couple weeks, he's been taking all the snaps.
10:11Nah, he's been in the league long enough, he should have this stuff figured out.
10:15Daryl, on to the defensive side of the ball, because obviously...
10:18Oh, it gets better.
10:19I mean, we were looking at the offense, they were bad.
10:22Defense also in that game was not great.
10:25I mean, I think some concerning things popped me out of there.
10:27The Browns were not getting pass rushes through, they were not blitzing to accommodate for that pass rush,
10:32they were playing a lot more zone rather than man that they've been playing in years past.
10:36I mean, as a group, as a whole, how concerned are you for that group right now?
10:40Now, I'm very concerned about the zone, because this is not a zone secondary, okay?
10:46This is a man-to-man secondary.
10:48Here's a perfect example.
10:49Tyson Campbell, right?
10:50The whole reason the Browns were able to trade for Tyson Campbell, they gave up Greg Little at the time.
10:55The reason they were able to trade for Tyson Campbell is because he was struggling in Jacksonville.
10:59Jacksonville plays zone defense in their secondary, okay?
11:02He comes to Cleveland, plays man-to-man under Jim Schwartz, and what happens?
11:05We're all sitting here talking about what a genius Andrew Barry is and how he ripped off the Jacksonville Jaguars
11:10getting Tyson Campbell, right?
11:13So, why are they playing zone all of a sudden?
11:16Like, I don't get it.
11:19And I understand maybe Mike Rutenberg's trying to put his own thing, but that's something that needs to address.
11:24They should not play that much zone.
11:26It's not a zone defense.
11:29And for all the talk that we heard about from Todd Munkin, how he's a players-over-plays type of
11:34a coach, right?
11:35We're fixing everything to go with the—well, Mike Rutenberg needs to do that on the defensive side of the ball,
11:41okay?
11:41They're not a good communicating secondary.
11:44They haven't been.
11:45Like, before Jim Schwartz got here, what was the number thing we complained about, right?
11:49Blown coverages as a result of lack of communication.
11:51What happened Sunday?
11:53Blown coverages is a lack of communication.
11:56So, get back to man-to-man.
11:58That's what they do well in the secondary, okay?
12:03And save the zone for select situations.
12:06But that's what that looked like to me.
12:08They were fish out of water.
12:09They're being asked to do stuff that they're not good at.
12:11And, well, they weren't very good at it.
12:14Surprise, surprise.
12:16And, Darrell, I agree with you fully.
12:18The one pushback I think anybody could have on it, though, is when you're playing man-to-man defense,
12:23it usually comes with a darn good pass rush to be able to play it, and they also didn't have
12:27that either.
12:27Well, and that's very fair.
12:29They applied – I think I applied more pressure to Trevor Lawrence on Sunday, okay?
12:35A couple of tweets would have done the job.
12:37Yes, absolutely.
12:39So, yeah, that's a little concerning.
12:44They didn't win first down, right?
12:45Run defense wasn't stout early on downs, right?
12:48So, that's a problem.
12:50What Trevor Lawrence wanted, Trevor Lawrence got.
12:52Why?
12:53Because he had all the time in the world.
12:54So, there's a lot of concern all of a sudden for me on the defensive side of the football.
12:59Well, you know, and I think it transcends more than, well, they lost Jim Schwartz.
13:04You know, Miles Garrett isn't here anymore.
13:07I think they might have a scheme issue on their hands.
13:10And I say that understanding that's one week in, and that's a knee-jerk reaction on my part.
13:15We'll see how this thing plays out in the subsequent weeks, and hopefully I'm dead wrong about that.
13:19Hopefully everything corrects itself on that side of the ball, and they get back to playing the way we've seen
13:24them play the last couple years.
13:25But I do feel like maybe there's a little concern we could have a scheme issue on the defensive side
13:29of the ball, and that's something we're going to have to watch.

13:33Daryl, going back to the offense for a second, a potential positive note.
13:37You had two rookies on the starting offensive line.
13:39I get not everybody's staring at that.
13:41You went back and watched it.
13:42How do you think Spencer Fano and Austin Barber played?
13:44I thought they were really good.
13:47And, you know, Fano had such a hard assignment as well.
13:52And I thought he did a very good job.
13:56I thought Austin Barber was good, too.
13:59Look, maybe we have our next Wyatt Teller slash Joel Batonio in him, right?
14:05So, yeah.
14:07And again, where problems flared up, I think, was a byproduct of the offensive line not being on the same
14:14page from a protection standpoint with Deshaun Watson.
14:18And I don't know, maybe Todd Munkin, because we have no idea what Todd Munkin's calling, right?
14:23So, don't know if Deshaun Watson's supposed to be taking those drops or not, if that's part of the design
14:28or not.
14:28I would hope not, because I think it's pretty stupid if you line five to seven yards back from the
14:33line of scrimmage and you drop another five to seven yards after the snap.
14:36I think that's really stupid football to be 14 yards from the line of scrimmage before you throw a football,
14:41but that's just me, okay?
14:42Coaches know more than I do.
14:43But I think that, all in all, the offensive line did their part on Sunday.
14:50Just everyone needs to get on the same page as far as the protection plan and the types of drops
14:57the quarterback is going to be making.
15:00Darrell, it's nice to be able to talk after Sunday and not have to bring up special teams on a
15:04negative note, isn't it?
15:05Yeah, they were good.
15:06Raheem Sanders, that 74-yard kickoff return was fantastic.
15:10It's a shame the Browns let that go to waste.
15:12But, yeah, I mean, the tackling was crisp there on special teams.
15:21You got some returns on special teams.
15:24Like, okay, you know what this feels like?
15:27This feels like the Eric Mangini Browns.
15:29The only thing they play is special teams.
15:31The defense, okay.
15:35The offense, putrid because they don't have any offensive play, right?
15:40But, like, hey, yay for special teams.
15:42Like, are we back to the era where, like, Josh Cribs is, like, the star of the team again, right?
15:47Does that mean Raheem Sanders is going to be the star of this team because he's returning kicks 74 yards?
15:54God, I hope not.
15:54But give Denzel Boston his flowers.
15:57He made a nice catch there on the touchdown.
16:00And that was really the best throw of the day from Deshaun Watson as well.
16:05So, you know what?
16:06Here's a positive for you.
16:07Maybe that's going to carry the momentum into next week against Tampa Bay.
16:11They're going to just rewatch that touchdown over and over and over again
16:15and make themselves feel better about losing by 24 points.

16:20I did want to ask you, Browns moved Dylan Sampson over to IR after the knee injury.

16:25Yeah, I mean, he was leaving the game in a knee brace and on crutches.

16:30I mean, just because Browns fans didn't get to see him a ton this year,
16:33based on what you saw in practice, how big of a hit is this for the Browns offense?
16:37I think it's a significant hit.

16:40I was really high on Dylan Sampson.
16:42I love what I was seeing from him.
16:43I love how I was seeing Todd Munkin use him offensively as well.
16:48I thought he could really provide a dynamic presence coming out of the backfield there.
16:55So, this is a hit, but it's also not a critical hit.

17:02That's no disrespect to Dylan.
17:03But they do have other guys there that can contribute on that side of the ball.
17:07But it is a hit.
17:08Make no mistake about it.
17:09I thought Dylan was going to play a key role.
17:12So, hopefully, this is a four-week thing and not a six, eight, or rest-of-the-season type
