01:08half the fan base hates his guts so it's just you know hopefully he's able to play well and uh

01:15crowd will be uh in a good mood daryl is there any way he's on this team next year no

01:25agreement with you we've just had people call in and mention oh if he plays well you know a new
01:32contract oh they're gonna move on i you think so yeah you you you have to move on from this

01:38so why i'll go back so why are they playing him now yeah why are they playing him um because

01:44them the best chance to win okay they're trying to change the culture they well bring the young
01:50guy but i'm as far as a winning culture bring the young guys around yeah i mean i just don't

01:57that the young quarterbacks are uh where they need to be to play so deshaun's the best option and that's
02:03why they're playing them is there a point where they'll ever be where they need them to play
02:08i i mean and if they're not playing how are they getting better yeah i mean are they really getting
02:13coached up at practice and what does that mean well i mean one's a fifth round pick one's a third
02:22round pick it's currently on injury reserve so you know and i mean there's the football aspect of
02:31this do they project that they'll get better do they project that they're worth the investment
02:37of time and all that kind of like i mean there's just there's more to this than well just play
02:42the
02:42young kids and that'll be that like well what if the young kids aren't doing what they're supposed
02:47to be doing to be ready to play or the coaches aren't happy with their performance or what you
02:53know i mean like or you don't think or you don't think they're your future so you're not going to
02:57invest in them right and and so why and we don't know okay i mean you know we we don't
03:06know what's
03:07going on uh you know behind the scenes i mean i i've seen some things that have raised a few
03:13red flags in my book um i don't know that shador sanders is 100 with the program the way he
03:20needs
03:20to be uh but you know you ask anyone in the organization and they tell you he's doing great
03:26so you know you know that that part of it is what it is but um you know the sean's
03:33coming off winning
03:33so there's no point in talking about changing quarterbacks when he played well and um you know
03:40the the offense was mostly efficient they put long scoring drives together multiple long scoring drives
03:46he had a big hitter uh thanks to denzel boston like um so you know we can i i shelve
03:55the notion of
03:57well let's just put shador sanders on the field because i mean you know the sean showed
04:02that he still has the capability to win a game here or there
04:08with the running game being as bad as it is at least so far it's two weeks what exactly what
04:15do
04:16you do is it is it offensive line will the will the better passing game open that thing up what
04:21do
04:21you think it is daryl well week one wasn't conducive to running the football because they were so far
04:26behind on the scoreboard correct and you know uh last week they just couldn't get it going
04:32um and that happens but you i think you got to stick with it quench on judkins is a very
04:38good
04:39player they missed dylan sampson there's no question about that um but raheem rocket sanders
04:45uh shows ability as well so um i think that you you got to stick with it you got to
04:54try and uh and
04:56you're also dealing with a whole new offensive line so stick with it for a couple more weeks here i
05:02don't think that there's reason to panic just yet and i kind of feel like it's like a brick wall

05:08just keep hammering enough until you finally break through and i think that that's ultimately what's
05:12going to happen with that let me go back to that previous question there for a second do watson played
05:18well on sunday how many starts do you think he's jeff and i were debating this jeff thinks he's good
05:24for you i think he's your starting quarterback daryl unless he's miserable for the next four or five
05:29games yeah and i say he still has another two-week audition here at home and and and game four
05:34is
05:34only because it's such a quick turn on for a thursday night game what do you think i thought i

05:40that no change would be made until week four after week four so have you been saying that all long
05:46even yeah okay yeah remember all you guys kept asking me oh they're gonna bench him after the
05:53first two road games and i said no they'll do it after the stealer game if they feel the need
05:56to do
05:56it yeah so does does the performance last week against tampa eliminate the need for four games
06:03does it buy him anymore we'll see see what he does on sunday okay that's fair that's fair uh
06:12defensively get a little different look against tampa bay you think they you think mike rutenberg
06:17turned them loose a little bit or or what well they played a little more man than they did the
06:22previous week and i i think i saw a stat the browns have played more man snaps than anyone in
06:30the
06:30national football league and that's the personnel that they have um so yeah i mean there there were
06:37clearly adjustments made the players responded to those adjustments they played well um i still
06:44think it's extremely impressive that they had 28 yards to defend coming out of a two-hour weather delay
06:50and they were able to stop them now also the beneficiary of a play not getting made baker mayfield
06:58dropped a dime uh in the in the front edge of the end zone and um you know coverage yeah
07:07i mean you
07:08know real good coverage too but like you know it's a game of inches and that was inches from going
07:14the
07:14other way but um no the deep the defense i i think there were some adjustments made mike rutenberg was
07:20true to his word about you know it trying to do things and and scheme things up that his players
07:28are good at and so we saw less zone coverage we saw more man coverage now granted uh the interception
07:37miles hardens interception that actually did come off of a zone coverage but um they tweaked some
07:44things it was very successful i thought it was a very good defensive performance you're not just
07:49sitting there waiting for jared verse to sack somebody like you would with with miles garrett
07:56i think the defensive line overall pretty balanced and getting some pressure michael jr uh has looked
08:02good malik collins having him back and healthy i think is a big shot in the arm mason graham uh
08:09is
08:09continuing to be consistent so like this just isn't about well jared versus got to go out and get a
08:15couple of sacks a game for this pass rush to be effective i think that they did a good
08:19job of being pretty balanced in getting pressure on baker mayfield and hopefully that um that's going
08:27to continue as uh they go uh you know into the season here and obviously they got bryce young this
08:33weekend daryl assess the defense without miles garrett the defensive line and like if they reach the
08:42expectations you thought are they at expectations are they below expectations no i think they're right
08:47where i thought they'd be i mean i i didn't think jared verse was going to come in here and
08:51get a bunch
08:52of sacks right away and that's absolutely been the case they're still getting pressure um they got
08:58pressure last week not so much in week one but i think last week showed you yeah they can still
09:03get
09:04pressure on the quarterback so i think that they're right where they need to be quite honestly
09:09where's todd munkin what have you thought through two games i think that that's quite the turnaround to
09:18go from getting blown out by 24 points to come back the next week and went on the road and
09:25um have all
09:27three phases of your football team play you know show improvement i mean typically when you get a week
09:35one like that here in cleveland we we it's usually straight down the elevator shaft and that was not
09:41the case so i give todd munkin a whole lot of credit and i had mentioned this multiple times in
09:47the
09:47off season it's you know one of the reasons that i'm a lot more open-minded about him as a
09:53head coach
09:54the players respond to him players listen the players respond he's he's kind of you know he keeps it real
10:00as they say um and and the players seem to like that and they respond to it so i i
10:09i think he's
10:10doing i think he's doing an okay job here daryl the bronze will win on sunday if they blank
10:19well um if they're able to contain carolina's passing attack right now i and again it's early
10:25like you're asking about the browns run game earlier i'm like hey it's week two like let's you know
10:29let's not get too carried away here same thing with you know carolina but um you know they're uh
10:35they lead the nfl in passing through two games so you gotta how to give their their props for that
10:42right um but uh just kind of you know you know looking at that that carolina offense they got they
10:49you know they got a couple of guys uh you know tech mcmillan and and and and jaylen uh cocker
10:55who
10:55are doing uh uh off to a real nice start for them um you know bryce young is uh looking
11:03like the
11:04quarterback everyone thought he was going to look like coming out of college and so you know this will
11:10be a pretty good uh test again for this defense and if they're able to can uh slow up carolina's
11:18pass attack which they certainly have the players to do it we'll see you know how tyson campbell's
11:22feeling comes sunday because he's been on and off the field with a couple of injuries that he's been
11:27dealing with but yeah i think if they can uh bring that carolina passing attack back to earth they got
11:34a real good shot to win and of course obviously deshaun's got to take care of the football he's got
11:38to have another game where there's zero turnovers and um he doesn't have to do too much i mean he
11:45didn't do he didn't do too much in tampa he doesn't have to do too much um yeah they do
11:50that stuff
11:50you know they'll be two and one and uh brown champs will be drinking thinking about a three
11:55and one start uh going into thursday night football daryl todd munkin mentioned with the
12:02offensive line at the end of training camp we we want our best five guys out there and i think
12:08we've
12:08seen you know he was serious about that with austin barber now being your starter at right guard
12:13are there best five guys out there right now or or do you think they could tweak that
12:21no i think the best five guys are out there okay um yeah and austin barber's been great
12:27special for no has been great dion johnson's had his uh issues tyson's had his issues but
12:33you know um yeah i i think that they got the best five offensive linemen on the field 100 percent
