00:09and hearing everyone talk, it sounds to me like Deshaun Watson's
00:13not only the starting quarterback of the Browns,
00:15but he's going to lead this team to multiple playoff wins,
00:19including a Super Bowl, and the folks from Hager are going to be out there
00:23later today to fit him for his gold jacket
00:25after that outstanding performance he had yesterday at camp.

00:30Oh, stop.
00:32Daryl, that's what I deal with all day.
00:34I know, Jeff, and you have my sympathies.
00:38I'll say this.
00:39It was the best I've ever seen Deshaun Watson practice
00:43since probably his first practice with the Browns.
00:47He was very good yesterday, no denying it.
00:50I don't know that it's enough to make me forget about the previous six practices
00:54where he was not good.
00:56But, you know, now it's about, as they like to say, stacking the days.
01:02What does he look like today?
01:04Well, and so I think that Watson's experience does matter to Todd Munkin,
01:15but Todd needs to be sold that Deshaun can be productive on the field,
01:23just like Todd needs to be sold that Shador Sanders can do all the little things
01:28that he's looking for from his starting quarterback for this offense,
01:35as well as perform on the field.
01:37So I don't think we're any closer to knowing who the starting quarterback is.
01:42Nothing was decided.
01:44And nothing's going to be decided today or tomorrow or the next day.
01:49I don't think it'll be decided until probably after the second preseason game.
01:55With a new coach and a new coaching staff, Daryl,
01:58and even though Deshaun maybe didn't look good earlier in camp,
02:02doesn't it matter more what you look like now as opposed to what you look like in the past?
02:08Well, yeah, and that's why I said, Jeff, he's got to start stacking some days now.
02:14He can't go out there and look like he did in the first six practices today following yesterday.
02:19He needs now to look like he did yesterday, today, and tomorrow, and the next day.
02:25He needs to be consistent with this.
02:28So I think that that's the next step in this process.
02:35So, yeah, nothing's been decided, but, yeah,
02:41Deshaun's got to show that he can do it for more than just the occasional practice.
02:46Give me your thoughts on Gabriel here.
02:48I guess I read your tweet from, like, two nights ago.
02:51I'm just curious.
02:51You're, like, where does he stand?
02:55Well, I mean, he's been fairly consistent throughout practice on a daily basis.
03:02I still don't think he's in the starting conversation.
03:05I think he's doing everything that he's being asked to do.
03:09And, you know, I don't know.
03:12Maybe there's a chance he ends up being the number two quarterback.
03:15It remains to be seen.
03:17I mean, if anything, maybe he does enough to where the Browns are able to trade him somewhere as well.
03:26Andrew Berry has said that he's open to having four quarterbacks on the roster, on the active roster.
03:32So, and to be fair, they needed four quarterbacks on the active roster just to get through the schedule.
03:40And considering this quarterback room is what it is, yeah, I think it's reasonable to think that, yeah,
03:48that might not be the worst roster management decision you can make there to have four guys going into the
03:54season.
03:55But you can see the improvement from him from last year, and he certainly deserves credit for that.
04:03But I still don't think that he should be in the conversation to be the starter.
04:10But you do have to give him credit for how efficient he has looked throughout camp.
04:17Daryl, I ask this not with starting quarterback position in mind.
04:22How has Talon Green looked in camp?
04:25Yeah, I mean, let me digress.
04:27But you see the raw skill set, but there's obviously a lot of refinement and growth that needs to happen
04:37with him.
04:38But you can see why the Browns drafted him in the sixth round and took a flyer on him.
04:45And, you know, I don't think that you're going to – I don't think you're going to see him on
04:51the waiver wire.
04:51Let's just put it that way.
04:52They're definitely, I think, going to keep him on the roster.
04:56Daryl, should we be looking at other quarterbacks from other teams?
05:02I would, but that's just me.
05:04Do you think they are?
05:06No, I think they're going to see what they have in that room this year,
05:12and that's going to inform their decision-making process for 2027.
05:18They – I mean, when it's all said and done,
05:24I think the overarching theme of this season is going to be if only the Browns had a quarterback.
05:32And – because I just – I think that the supporting cast right now is good enough to win.
05:38Do I think that it's good enough to be a playoff team?
05:41I don't know.
05:43But I think that this supporting cast is pretty good.
05:49And the other thing I think that they might be counting on is that the supporting cast is going to
05:55help elevate whatever quarterback they put out there.
05:59Because Denzel Boston and Casey Concepcion have been very consistent throughout camp.
06:04And I just – I'm really excited about those two young receivers.
06:10Quinn Sean Dugtons, you'd never know that he broke his leg and dislocated his ankle watching him.
06:16Dylan Sampson has looked really, really good.
06:18Harold Fannin Jr., when he's out there, looks good.
06:22But, yes, there are some questions about the offensive line and how that's going to shake out
06:28and whether or not they're going to be as good as we think they look on paper.
06:34But I just – I think that when we look back at this season, it's going to be, man,
06:39if the Browns only had a consistently productive quarterback, what could they have been?
06:48You mentioned some of the skill position guys, Daryl.
06:50Is there any one player in particular who's impressed you more than others?
06:54Yeah.
06:55Denzel Boston, every day.
06:57He stands out every day.
07:00I probably have to go back to Josh Gordon in the 2013 supplemental draft when we saw him for the
07:08first time in camp
07:09and what he was doing.
07:11Now, I'm not saying he is Josh Gordon.
07:13Don't misunderstand me.
07:14But, like, as far as, like, excitement, consistency, you know, big playmaking ability, potential, all those things,
07:23I mean, that's kind of what this reminds me of a little bit.
07:28The only difference is I'm not really concerned about whether or not Denzel Boston is actually going to be allowed
07:33to play football.
07:36That was well said.
07:37You also mentioned a name I haven't heard much of in camp, Dylan Sampson.
07:41How do you think Todd Munkin's going to use him?
07:44Well, I think he's going to be the number two back.
07:47I think he'll get touches running the ball out of the backfield.
07:50He's certainly going to get touches in the passing game.
07:53I think similar to how Kevin Stefanski tried to use him.
07:56Now, the plays will look different because it's a different offense, a different scheme.
08:01But I think that, you know, Munkin's going to try and get him into space and, you know, get the
08:09ball in his hands and let him do his thing.
08:12So I think that there's a pretty good role for him within this offense.
08:21Daryl, is DeJuan Jones working his way onto the starting rotation?
08:26Yeah, I mean, he's getting significant starting reps.
08:30Spencer Feneau is, you know, competing for that job as well.
08:36We all assumed going into training camp that Spencer Feneau was going to be the starting left tackle.
08:43That is no longer an assumption for me.
08:46DeJuan Jones looks really, really good.
08:50He's in great shape, probably, I'd say, the best shape he's ever been in as a Brown.
08:55It's actually been somewhat unfortunate that, you know, injuries have slowed his development.
09:03And returning from those injuries, maybe not enough time to get in the shape that he wanted to be in
09:09or the team wanted him to be in.
09:11But it kind of feels like he's been able to get through those injuries that he had early in his
09:18career.
09:18He's been able to take the offseason to get himself in shape.
09:23And he looks really good in camp.
09:29Sounds what we're looking for, right?
09:31Yeah.
09:32I wonder, you know, could there end up being a trade involving an offensive lineman at the end of the
09:36camp?
09:36But that's way down the road.
09:38Yeah.
09:39I mean, yeah.
09:40I mean, there's, you know, I'm sure Andrew Barry, you know, Todd Larkin has mentioned this.
09:47You know, they do work on the depth chart pretty much on a daily basis, even though we might not
09:51know necessarily what that depth chart actually looks like.
09:55But, yeah, I mean, we know how Andrew Barry works.
09:57If he's got a guy that's on the bubble or whatever, he tends to try and turn them into a
10:01draft pick or something like that.
10:02And I just, I don't know if you're going to trade an offensive lineman because I do feel like there's
10:10some residual trauma left over from what they've gone through in the last couple of seasons as far as injuries
10:17and the depth that they've needed to have up front.
10:22But at times they've not had it and they've had to kind of mix, match, piece and part the offensive
10:28line together.
10:29So, I don't know that Andrew Barry is going to be anxious to trade any of the core offensive linemen.
10:39Darrell, just quickly, I want you to talk about defense for a second.
10:41I was out last week.
10:42I'm just curious your thoughts on Delpit and Ward getting, you know, contract extensions and, you know, what does that
10:50mean for the team?
10:51What does that mean for the locker room?
10:52Well, I mean, obviously it means that those people, whatever vocabulary you'd like to use, they're deserving of good players.
11:07I think Denzel's one of the best cornerbacks in the NFL.
11:11People act like that this guy misses half the season every year, and that's not the case.
11:16I just don't understand that narrative because he missed one to three games in a season.
11:22They act like he's never available to play.
11:24That's just beyond not true.
11:27And, you know, Grant Delpit, he is, in my view, I think he's an integral member of that secondary.
11:35So, as far as what it sends to the locker room, I think it sends the message similar to the
11:40Miles Garrett trade, right?
11:42Right.
11:42They brought in Jared Verse, outstanding young player entering his third season.
11:48We already see his impact on a daily basis.
11:51He works with Spencer Bonneau.
11:53After practice, we see that.
11:55He's very vocal.
11:56He's very helpful out there.
11:58However, I think it just sends the message to the locker room that, hey, yes, we're young, but we're trying
12:05to win.
12:05We're not playing for draft picks.
12:07We're not playing for asset accumulation.
12:10And, you know, and obviously Todd Munkin himself is coaching to win.
12:16So, I think it's a very positive message that gets sent when you extended both of those two players.
