02:47Good evening, Trinidad and Tobago, international audience, and of course our brothers and sisters
02:52in Grenada, this is Beyond the Tape.
02:54I'm your host, Whitney Husbands.
02:56And yes, we have come to yet another end of a work week.
02:59Many of us are saying, thank God it's Friday.
03:01And our individual who is here does it a little different.
03:05And he has been with us, with us, I should say, for the past week, even though he works
03:10on the Friday.
03:11But the entire week, he has blessed us with his presence.
03:13But since it's Friday, we must introduce the man who is with us each and every Friday,
03:19ASP Russell.
03:20How are you?
03:21Good evening, Ms. Husbands.
03:23Good evening, Trinidad and Tobago, Grenada and our international viewers on behalf of the
03:27Commissioner of Police, Deputy Commissioners, Assistant Commissioners, and First and Second
03:31Division Officers of the...
03:33Esteem.
03:33Trinidad and Tobago Police Service.
03:35They tricked me.
03:37What?
03:38Trinidad, I want you all to know that, that they tricked me.
03:40But, you see, Jackie, I don't laugh because Jackie knows the issues.
03:44ASP, how could we?
03:46How could we trick you?
03:48I thought that you understood what was happening.
03:50And he said, listen, I will step in because I am making up for all the days I missed.
03:58I thought that was the case.
03:59Am I wrong?
04:01You misinterpreted, yeah.
04:02Really?
04:03Yeah, you could be wrong.
04:04But today's a day, though.
04:06Well, today is my day.
04:07But an arrangement was made, hence the reason I was.
04:10But, you know what?
04:10As you said, it's a pleasure to be here.
04:12We are here to discuss the issues with you.
04:14Yes, yes, yes.
04:14I'm happy to understand the police service and how we operate, how we think, what drives
04:19us, what motivates us a lot better so that we could have that pairing and that oneness
04:26between ourselves, the TTPS, and you, the members of the public.
04:29So we have a lot to discuss, look at.
04:32Yes, every single day.
04:33Are you the only person who could guide us accordingly?
04:37Well, after God.
04:39Yes, it's you.
04:40Of course.
04:41All right.
04:41So on Thursday, remember we said this came out like from a movie scene.
04:45But it was a movie scene that took place on the Beatham.
04:47Yes.
04:48And let's just say, we always tell people, sometimes you chasing away from law enforcement
04:55makes things worse, and this is why we see it.
04:57Now, according to the Trinidad Express, police vehicle totaled as driver flees after red light
05:03violation.
05:04A St. James man, who police said was driving without a license and insurance, faces several
05:10charges after a high-speed chase along the Beatham Highway ended when he crashed into a
05:16newly acquired police vehicle, and that took place yesterday.
05:21Now, police said the incident began shortly afternoon when officers saw the driver of a
05:26gray Hyundai Crater run a red traffic light at Sealots while traveling east along the Beatham Highway.
05:34The officers activated their sirens and signaled for the driver to stop, but he allegedly refused
05:40and accelerated away.
05:42A brief pursuit followed with the pursuing officers alerting colleagues from the Highway Patrol branch.
05:48Police said officers in a recently acquired Chinese-manufactured RD6 electric pickup positioned the vehicle
06:00in an attempt to intercept the crater.
06:02However, the driver allegedly tried to maneuver around the police vehicle at high speed and crashed into it.
06:09The impact caused the crater to overturn and come to rest on its roof a short distance from the police
06:17vehicle.
06:17The officers who had been pursuing the SUV stopped and approached with their firearms drawn
06:23before removing the injured driver from the overturned vehicle.
06:27He was placed in a police vehicle and taken to the Portisbane General Hospital, where he remained under police guard
06:33up to last night.
06:35Now, police said decreta, but found nothing illegal.
06:37The vehicle was subsequently towed to the Bessel Street police station.
06:41Police said that while being taken to the hospital, the man told officers he had never been issued a driver's
06:47license
06:48and that this was why he had attempted to evade them.
06:52He is expected to be charged after being discharged from the hospital.
06:56The charges are expected to include driving without a license, driving without insurance,
07:02dangerous driving and failing to obey a red traffic light.
07:06I thought they were going to say also assault of police officers as well.
07:12Well, Ms. Husbands, it just goes to show what we face daily.
07:18You wake up this morning as an officer and you come to work, you really don't know what you're going
07:21to face, right?
07:23That vehicle, I mean, and I'm happy that no one received any serious injuries,
07:27that vehicle that he destroyed is one less vehicle to tend to the public's needs.
07:32That's a new vehicle.
07:33Yes.
07:34In addition to which investigation should go even further,
07:37because whoever it is that is aware that he has no driver's permit
07:43and still give that person the vehicle to drive could be before the court.
07:49So I'm telling parents, if you know relatives, guardians, that your younger ones,
07:56yes, they might be able to drive, but they are not the whole of a driver's permit,
08:01please do not aid and abet because you could also find yourself before the court.
08:06Now I've seen situations where persons try to save themselves and they said,
08:11I did not give him or her the vehicle.
08:13And guess what?
08:14We now add last name of the vehicle to the list of charges.
08:18So we need to be careful.
08:20You could get plenty serious charges arising out of incidents like this.
08:24Thank God that no one was seriously injured.
08:26He himself, I'm certain, he will learn from this.
08:31But look how many matters he now has to face.
08:35So you're going from facing one traffic offense to facing a multitude of offenses.
08:41Yes, yeah.
08:42So, I mean, and that's why I said, if it is that law enforcement is engaging you
08:47and you know you're doing things illegally, regardless of what it is in this case or otherwise,
08:52just stop because you're adding more to the charges that already stand before you,
08:59which is actually making it worse.
09:01Now we have an update with regards to the bomb threats that was taking place this week
09:04from the Honorable Minister of Homeland Security.
09:07And what he was stating in a media briefing that was taking place in prison today,
09:14he said an arrest is imminent as it relates to the bomb threats.
09:19So, ASP, this is any updates additional to what the minister is saying here?
09:24Well, you know, the minister is saying exactly what is going on and an arrest should be imminent.
09:29And I really do hope that it's sooner rather than later because these bomb threats have been so disruptive
09:36over the past week that it's just really, it reduces productivity.
09:43Yes.
09:44It places person in a sense of continuous fear for their lives, for that of their family members.
09:50Because not only the person who's working there, but the relatives who know a mommy going to work there,
09:54the wife going to work there, the husband working there.
09:58So, we really need to think about these things.
10:01I know a lot of persons, sometimes decisions are made.
10:04We may not like every decision that is made,
10:06but this is supposed to still be a society that applies by the laws of the land.
10:10Mm-hmm.
10:13Yes, me.
10:15I mean, we started off in a positive direction,
10:19but you know when we continue throughout the show and we hear and see things that will still disturb many
10:25of us.
10:25Very, very disturbing.
10:26Very, very disturbing hearing the screams of individuals who may be in their homes,
10:33the place that they reside and are supposed to be safe and feel comfortable.
10:38This could be a reality for many of us, and I know this is what you all are grappling with,
10:42the TTPS, to find a way we're dealing with home invasions.
10:45Now, we don't know the exact location of this said video,
10:48but this is what took place where persons were in their homes trying to relax
10:53and do what most of us do when we're home,
10:58have some sort of ease, and this is what took place.
11:01Take a listen.
11:26Is it like they hit them with something or something?
11:28Yeah, it, ASP, now the screams alone,
11:35it's a poor reason
11:39situation to even look at
11:42and hear, even if you're not watching and you hear these screams coming from a home,
11:47a place that is yours,
11:49a place that you're supposed to be relaxing,
11:52a place that you can rest your head and not worry.
11:55And this is what we have to deal with in Trinidad and Tobago
11:59and the young individuals, I can't even call them men,
12:06the young monsters
12:09that walk among us
12:13feels comfortable, ASP,
12:15to come in my home,
12:17because this is somebody's home,
12:19my home with a firearm,
12:21they stirred me,
12:22and I still have to consider in my mind
12:25how I'm going to deal with them
12:26because the law can deal with me accordingly.
12:28How can I deal with equal force here, ASP?
12:31Guide me.
12:32One person has a gun, I'm not sure if the other one does.
12:34Let me just tell you something, right?
12:36And I want the public to get it clear
12:39because I know there have been a lot going around.
12:41And even when you talk about self-defense,
12:43we talk about reasonable force and proportionate,
12:45and I want you all to understand what I'm saying.
12:47Under Section 7 of the Home Invasion and Self-Defense,
12:53Defense of Property Act 11 of 2025,
12:56an occupant has no duty to retreat from a home invader.
13:02In other words,
13:03the law does not require someone to run away from his or her own home
13:08before defending themselves.
13:11The occupant may stand their ground
13:14where they reasonably believe that force is being used
13:18or threatened against them
13:20or that they or another person face immediate danger.
13:23So it could be you have the upper hand on them,
13:26but they're holding your family
13:27or they're going towards your family, your relative.
13:30However, the force used must still be necessary and reasonable.
13:36The force used must still be necessary and reasonable.
13:40Before you don't deplace my husband's weight
13:42and generally proportionate it to the threat
13:45the occupant honestly believes exists.
13:50Importantly, and I want you all to pay attention,
13:53deadly force can be legally justified.
13:56For self-defense,
13:58that can apply where the occupant reasonably believes,
14:02like in this case here,
14:04deadly force is necessary to prevent imminent death,
14:08grievous bodily harm,
14:10grievous sexual assault or rape.
14:12So in a situation where they come guns pointing at you
14:14and you're blessed with a gift,
14:17you could respond so accordingly.
14:19But I want to caution the public,
14:24right,
14:25that it is not indeed a license to kill.
14:30Any force used must be justified by the circumstances
14:35and must be necessary and reasonable
14:38in response to the threat you,
14:41meaning the victim,
14:43honestly believe
14:46you are facing.
14:49So if I see you coming into my house
14:52with guns pointing at me
14:54and I am so blessed with something
14:56to respond accordingly
14:57because at that point in time,
14:59I honestly believe
15:00that you are going to kill me or my family,
15:03then I can operate in a manner to suit.
15:06If you are coming to chop me,
15:08whether it's in my head
15:10or around my neck
15:10or otherwise,
15:11and I believe
15:13that you are a serious injury,
15:16I can die as a result of the threat
15:18and I operate in a particular way,
15:20I am indeed justified.
15:22So it's not that we are saying
15:23that we don't want persons
15:26to stand there wrong.
15:28By law,
15:29you don't have to retreat.
15:32Right?
15:33But a lot of the times,
15:34these persons,
15:35and we don't want anybody
15:36taking that unnecessary risk
15:38to see persons coming with a firearm,
15:40know that they are unarmed
15:41and still try to do
15:43some sort of superhero stuff.
15:46But ASP,
15:47if they come on my property,
15:49I still don't know
15:50if they are,
15:51if they're not pointing.
15:52All I know is a stranger
15:54is not on my property
15:56and I have my gift.
15:57What do you reasonably
15:59and honestly believe?
16:00Me?
16:01Yeah.
16:01I'm a threat.
16:02I'm a,
16:03yeah.
16:04Okay.
16:05And that is what we look at.
16:06Even if I'm not sure
16:06if you have a gun or not.
16:07And that is what we look at.
16:09Reasonableness
16:09and proportionate.
16:11What do you honestly
16:13and reasonably,
16:14the threat you honestly believe
16:16you are facing?
16:17Yes.
16:18Right?
16:19I go alone
16:20to men show up.
16:22I have a gift.
16:24I'm not sure
16:24if they have a weapon or not.
16:26I could open up.
16:28All right,
16:29gone, Gil.
16:30No, I just,
16:31no, I'm being honest.
16:32Could I?
16:33I am home alone,
16:34a female.
16:35Two men show up.
16:36I don't know what they have.
16:37They didn't point.
16:38I didn't see any gun,
16:39anything.
16:39So I'm supposed to wait?
16:40I'm asking,
16:41honestly,
16:42am I supposed to wait
16:43to see what they do
16:44then to react with my gift?
16:45And this is where
16:46the test comes in.
16:47And again,
16:48that way they keep telling you
16:49what you honestly believe.
16:51Say if they're coming at you
16:52and you see they're coming,
16:53hey, who are you all?
16:54And they're still coming at you
16:55and you realize they're running.
16:56And they said,
16:56and you're so blessed.
16:58I mean,
16:58you would not have to give
16:59that explanation.
17:01Of course,
17:01an investigation will be done.
17:03We must do an investigation
17:04because we must justify it.
17:06These are the facts.
17:07Let the investigation
17:08run its course.
17:09But what I'm advising the public
17:11is that make sure
17:11that you,
17:12whatever threat,
17:13when you respond,
17:14make sure that your response
17:16is proportionate to the threat
17:17that you honestly believe
17:19that you are facing.
17:20And that is all we are saying.
17:21I cannot stand here
17:23and relay every circumstance
17:24because every circumstance
17:25will be different.
17:26Some persons may be able
17:27to see a man coming
17:28with a knife
17:29and he might be able
17:29to reach his cutlass
17:30and chop the person
17:32before the knife man
17:33gets to stab him.
17:34That would be deemed reasonable.
17:37Yeah.
17:38So,
17:38or every circumstance
17:39presents with it
17:41a different scenario
17:42and that is what we look
17:43at in this scenario
17:44and what you believe
17:46was honestly going to happen
17:47at the point in time.
17:48So,
17:49under Section 7,
17:50you have no,
17:51you're not expected
17:52to retreat.
17:52Yeah.
17:53In my world,
17:54in Whitney's world,
17:55I would see it as
17:57if I had law enforcement
17:58in my world,
17:59you go on somebody's property,
18:01whatever happens to you,
18:02happens to you.
18:04And that's that.
18:05And then we will deal
18:06with it accordingly after
18:07because it should not be there.
18:10Not the other way around.
18:10We have to remember
18:11how to,
18:12what you force.
18:13You show up
18:13in somebody property
18:14that is not yours.
18:17Whatever happens,
18:18happens.
18:19Right now,
18:20it's time for our SOE update
18:21as of August the 21st,
18:242026.
18:26Number of operations,
18:2711,955.
18:29Number of targets
18:31prior to offenders,
18:323,057.
18:34Searches conducted,
18:354,229.
18:37Traffic operations,
18:397,362.
18:41Total persons arrested,
18:435,270.
18:45Total persons charged,
18:461,259.
18:49Firearms recovered,
18:50we're seeing an increase
18:51with the pistols,
18:52giving us a total
18:53of 293.
18:55Ammunition recovered,
18:56we are seeing an increase
18:58again with the 9mm,
18:59giving us a total
19:00of 5,905.
19:02And dangerous drugs seized,
19:04we're seeing increase
19:04again with the cannabis ASB.
19:06Well, you know,
19:07the police,
19:08we are already working,
19:08more firearms being recovered,
19:10more ammunition,
19:12more drugs being recovered
19:13to make sure
19:13and Tobago are a safer place
19:15and we want the public
19:16to continue to work with us
19:17and share the information.
19:18Mr. Osmond,
19:19I want to just go back
19:20a little bit, right?
19:21And I know people can't
19:22understand where the proportion
19:23of any reason
19:24that will come from, right?
19:25So some people may live
19:26in neighborhoods
19:26and you may have
19:28somebody who may be,
19:29I don't want to call
19:29no derogatory name,
19:30but somebody who might be
19:31addicted to substances, right?
19:34That person believes
19:35that you're going to work,
19:37but the avocado tree
19:38looking real nice.
19:40It's laden.
19:41Right.
19:42Now they come in your yard
19:44and they say,
19:44and I listen to what you said,
19:46once you jump the fence
19:47here and belong,
19:48they're supposed to be
19:48able to open up, right?
19:50Yes, correct.
19:50Good.
19:51But they didn't come
19:52to harm you, you know?
19:54They're ready.
19:54They're not there.
19:56They come to have
19:56the avocado tree.
19:58All right, my husband,
19:59but say no more.
20:00Because if they come to
20:01steal some avocado,
20:04with the opinion
20:05that you're not there,
20:07do you think it is necessary
20:10you being so blessed
20:11with a gift
20:14to discharge a gift
20:15out of that person?
20:17Yeah.
20:18That person is climbing
20:19your avocado tree
20:20to steal your avocado.
20:22I don't know that.
20:23And you are under the tree.
20:26What threat
20:27is being placed
20:29on your life
20:29by him climbing
20:30the avocado tree
20:32to take a few avocados?
20:33Well, I don't know
20:34who else you're working with.
20:35If it's an avocado gang,
20:36I'm not sure.
20:37Right now,
20:37let's take a look
20:38at what's making
20:38today's headlines.
20:39Yeah,
21:07right now.
21:23And those are your stories making today's headlines.
21:26You can give us a call at 623-1711, extension 1996 or 1997.
21:31We'll be back.
21:46Keeper, none is that.
22:16But who is this?
22:22We'll be back.
22:48The Undisputed, number one program in Trinidad and Tobago, delivering the hard-hitting investigations you rely on.
22:55The TV6 News, revealing facts, provoking opinions.
23:14And we are back.
23:16And of course, each and every Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday, we have ASP Russell.
23:19Is that correct, sir?
23:22Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays.
23:24Yes.
23:24And today's Friday, so you're here with us.
23:26Trinidad, they made a deal with me.
23:28These women, they don't honor their words.
23:31I don't believe that at all.
23:32How could you say such a thing on national television right now?
23:35They made a deal.
23:36Yeah.
23:37But listen, the deal is that you're here today, and you needed to make up for the rest of the
23:41week, and you did.
23:43I wouldn't say what I was going to say there, but I'll pull back there.
23:46Please and thank you.
23:47Yes, so as we mentioned when we opened the show, we have a lot to dive into, and this has
23:52been circulating on social media.
23:54This took place on Arpita Avenue, where we are seeing individuals who, not saying they are trying to firebomb, they
24:02firebomb the people's place.
24:04You understand?
24:06And ASP, I don't know if you received any information.
24:10And this is usually a busy area.
24:11We know this is wee hours in the morning, clearly.
24:13But it's always at the time when you wish a police vehicle was just passing by in that moment, you
24:20know?
24:21What you can tell us?
24:22What you have any info on?
24:23But I know that an investigation is taking place.
24:28I know I saw a headline with some suspects with respect that arson was indeed held.
24:33But I don't know if it's put into this situation here.
24:37I have to get some more information from the Woodbrook Police Station as to...
24:42Do you know if it's non-nationals or nationals that you could give us info on this?
24:48I cannot say at this time.
24:51Yeah, but this is sad.
24:53This is a popular spot on the avenue, and it seems like they really had serious intentions of destroying this
25:00property.
25:02You know, you know, the police pass, catch them, arrest them.
25:09You know someone, one of their family members would be upset that we arrested them, right?
25:13Well, I don't know what fire they may have on them too.
25:16You know, with respect to the home invasion, where the men went in.
25:19Yeah, your good children, your good boy child went in the people's hospital, pointing firearms at them.
25:24You know, if they had run into a patrol outside and there was an exchange of gunfire and one of
25:30them succumbed to their injuries as a result,
25:33you know the parent would have had something else to say.
25:36The police would still end up being the wicked one, right?
25:38Do you hear how those persons were bawling?
25:40Look at this.
25:41Tell me what the business place do to you, that you decide you want to do this.
25:44And the place so hard.
25:46Look at this idiot.
25:47Watch, watch.
25:47Look at this idiot.
25:48Jackie, play that back.
25:49He is actually trying.
25:50Look how stupid.
25:50Watch how stupid.
25:51He is actually trying to run through the...
25:53Look, look.
25:55And let me tell you something.
25:56You know, if that glass, let's say he got through and that glass break, you know, the kind of injuries
26:00he could have sustained from that,
26:02just trying to do that nonsense he's trying to do there.
26:06I wouldn't feel sorry I could just say that much.
26:08Because the place is already hard.
26:10The people who have to work here now in a situation where the inconvenience of them losing income, I mean,
26:19come on.
26:20And I'm saying, you went gone, and I'm not condoing anything, you didn't break in to steal a shoe.
26:27No.
26:27Because you were barefoot.
26:28You going to burn down the person, please.
26:31What are you doing?
26:32What are you doing?
26:33And situations like these more so magnifies the need for the public to partner with the police.
26:40If you know who is doing this, sometimes you hear the information.
26:44Look at this.
26:44Look at this.
26:46No shame.
26:47You all on the ground.
26:48Look at that.
26:50Yeah.
26:54I know you told me, because we are Christian people, watch my words, so I will bite the words I
27:00really want to see.
27:01Because I'm really fed up, ASP.
27:03I am fed up.
27:04Miss Husbands.
27:05I am fed up.
27:06Look at this.
27:07Miss Husbands, I too.
27:09I am also fed up.
27:12People working hard.
27:14You know how much is rent on the avenue?
27:16You know how much is rent on the avenue?
27:18Now all your goods destroyed?
27:24Because of what?
27:25What is the reason behind this?
27:27Because of what?
27:28And then you could have also burned down other parts of the avenue.
27:33Because that particular shop, they have flammable items that they also sell there.
27:37And there's a vape shop next day.
27:39Exactly.
27:39Yeah.
27:40You could have easily blow up the whole block.
27:43But I'm wondering if the at the Cobie Soil Hill, where a suspect held after vape shop.
27:48So it could be related to that.
27:50I'm open.
27:51So I really hope to.
27:51And I'm sure you'll give us an update.
27:53We have a caller.
27:54Caller.
27:54Good evening.
27:57Hello.
27:58Good evening.
28:00Good evening.
28:01Good evening, sir.
28:03Good evening, caller.
28:15Good evening, sir.
28:18Good evening, sir.
28:22Good evening, sir.
28:42all right thank you color sp well at that point in time they are in your yard yes and no
28:49one is
28:49saying that you cannot defend yourself sir they come down the tree you may engage in a fist fight
28:56you might have a two by four you might have some something i ain't expecting you to shake their
29:00hand and tell them go on please so if you could subdue the person and then contact the police no
29:06problem if from the time you see them going up on the tree you call the police and whilst you
29:10are
29:10there now looking to apprehend them the police is on their way to take this person into custody
29:18and i understand we need to be careful because we don't know somebody else and you don't and
29:23all of that you have to take into consideration and that is what the law says you do not have
29:28to
29:28flee but you will be in that situation have to assess you it's like all right because everybody
29:34won this firearm right if you have a firearm and somebody do you something there's something called
29:40backdrop selection because you could be in right and you respond and you won't miss that person
29:47and hit somebody else you're reckless you could still be placed before the court because you're
29:53looking at recklessness where you could you should have foreseen that your action could have resulted
29:59in something of that nature so you still have to take all those things into consideration okay so you
30:04have a firearm you're big and you're bad and you're shooting no i don't think that's what we mean at
30:09all
30:09esp it says i would not see a man all right so let me ask your question my avocado tree
30:14all right
30:15before i get in trouble here let's take this call and then we will continue caller my apologies good evening
30:22good evening
30:22good evening
30:41so i
31:07i wanted to listen to me and this is what it did locate us for this
31:14and hence the reason they said any force used must be justified by the circumstances and must be
31:20necessary and reasonable in response to the threat you the individual honestly believe right
31:28that you are facing so if i am of the opinion that whatever it is you are going to do
31:35to me you are
31:35going to kill me and i take some sort of action and as a result of it you die i
31:42can just it can
31:43be justified nobody is saying let them come into your house and do you anything but i want you to
31:51open your mind and understand what i am saying because there must be an investigation if you
31:57honestly believe that you need to do a certain action to protect yourself your family etc
32:06sure that is what we take into consideration public of trinidad and tobago understand what
32:13i'm saying miss husbands but we must do an investigation and it must show what another
32:20i ask you if you're in a situation where the person is going up your tree to take some avocados
32:26what
32:27threat do you believe you face at the point in time i need to take a break okay then when
32:34you take the
32:34break i will answer you right no i want you to answer me no no no no no no no
32:38no of course we will
32:40discuss that but i need to take that break we'll be back with more all right guys today we're going
32:44to
32:44start a new topic and that topic is entitled there is no way i could teach in all that noise
33:02and there is
33:03definitely no way we children could learn in that noise of violence they deserve more that fear that
33:11anxiety we have to have our classrooms filled with joy laughter and hope not here that is why i support
33:22the tcps school-oriented policing initiatives this is not just about law enforcement it's about building
33:30trust parents teachers students and officers all coming together to provide a safe space where young
33:40minds can flourish if we all stand side by side we can protect our children keep them safe and they
33:50could have a space to learn without anxiety and fear i am ready to partner with the ttps in fostering

36:22And we are back now ASP, we spoke yesterday about elderly abuse and this is what we speak
36:30of, if you have a parent, grandparent of that age in that age bracket, please try and find
36:38ways that you could pop in, check up on them, make sure that they are safe because there
36:42are predators out there and they are marking the elderly.
36:46Now, according to the Trinidad Express, elderly man beaten, taken hostage in ATM robbery attempt.
36:52Now, according to police, around 1.30 p.m. on Wednesday, Lizama was at his apartment when
36:59the 45-year-old suspect entered and began verbally abusing him.
37:04Police said the man then picked up a broom handle and beat Lizama, causing soft tissue
37:10injuries to various parts of his body.
37:12The suspect searched Lizama's pocket and took $50.
37:15Police said the man then forced Lizama into his Toyota Fielder wagon and drove him to a
37:23gas station along Cyrus Road, where he intended to force the elderly man to withdraw $1,000
37:31from an ATM.
37:33However, as they arrived at the gas station, Lizama spotted a marked police vehicle.
37:38He told the Express that he decided to take a chance and got out of the suspect's vehicle.
37:43Lizama walked towards the police officers and begged them for help.
37:48Now, Inspector Ali and PC Chairman exited the marked vehicle and approached a suspect who
37:55offered no resistance.
37:56The officers detained him and took him to the Barataria police station, where he remained
38:02in custody up to last night.
38:04Now, they also stated that Lizama was taken to the Eric Williams Medical Science Complex,
38:09Mount Hope, where he was treated for his injuries, prescribed medication,
38:13and this discharge.
38:15Now, police subsequently took him home.
38:17And Lizama said yesterday that he was still suffering from the effects of the attack,
38:22the attack that is, and recounted the encounter with the suspect.
38:29Sad, right?
38:30Miss Husbands, I, sometimes I wonder.
38:35Oh, God, why our elderly people...
38:37You know, you look at persons and you're wondering if they really, if their mother really gave birth
38:44to them, if they have any older parents, brothers, sisters, any families, and if they would have
38:53liked someone to do that to them or their family, because to get old is a must once you're alive,
39:00you know.
39:00All of us.
39:01And I hope when they get old, that if the tables turn, that they would like being placed in that
39:08situation.
39:09Well, I'll say karma is real and you must pay for your deeds, and that is life full circle.
39:13We have a caller, on-hole caller.
39:15Good evening.
39:16Hi, good evening.
39:17Good evening, ma'am.
39:18How are you?
39:19Good evening, ma'am.
39:20I'm good.
39:21I'm good.
39:21Do you want to get a participant?
39:23Go on, ma'am.
39:25I have asked in here, so I thought I think you asked in here, it is 2024, and there is
39:33nothing
39:34I've been done about it, so I've tried my facts into my people, and it's going to be reported
39:39to the miracle of the fact, right, and it happened in front of a Chinese military, we made a report
39:45to the WPC that it's critical of the future, and after all, the person has not been apprehended
39:54or made a pay for the damages in the vehicle, apparently prisoned insurance for the people,
40:02and so we can find you to live by me.
40:06Okay, ma'am, leave your number with Ms. Jackie, and I will contact you during the course of
40:11next week.
40:122024, right?
40:132024.
40:14That accident may have been statued back, but just leave your number with Ms. Jackie, and
40:19I will contact you next week, please, God.
40:21Yes, and let's see how we could...
40:23Ms. Husband, let me just add some more, right, because I know we were speaking about the home
40:26invasion, and I want the public to just take a chance and go 11 of 2025, right?
40:33Okay, the Act also specifically addresses defensive property.
40:37Section 8 provides for defensive force during a home invasion, including circumstances in
40:43which deadly force may be justified, where the occupant reasonably believes that it is
40:48necessary to prevent or remove the home invader from the dwelling or to protect the property.
40:56But, it is not a license to kill.
41:00The distinction is extremely important for public education.
41:03The Act does not mean that simply because somebody enters your property, you automatically
41:09have a right to kill them.
41:13But I don't know if I will kill them.
41:17When I say so, I don't know if I will kill them, I am protecting myself.
41:21Okay.
41:22So, if I use my gift, and the gift lands on whichever part of your body, I didn't have
41:29intentions, I didn't premeditate the kill.
41:32Okay.
41:33So, you think, manslaughter?
41:34I don't know about no slaughter.
41:36Zero.
41:36We have a caller.
41:37Caller, good evening.
41:41Hello?
41:43Good evening.
41:45Yes.
41:46Good evening, sir.
41:47Good evening, sir.
41:48So, I really, really, really thank God for the time of the government.
41:53Hello.
41:54I am not applying to that law, so I will not apply to that law.
42:01So, you can't do it.
42:03It's a kid, you can't do it.
42:04So, you can't do it.
42:06But, you can't do it.
42:09You can't do it.
42:09Do it.
42:09You can do it.
42:31all right thank you caller yes i don't know what you'll say i mean the people are fed up
42:37her and it is we have reached a point where we hear what you're saying don't let me this is
42:42not even a
42:42joke right this is a serious matter because it's someone's life and i don't think anyone will be
42:47dreaming about taking somebody's life unless you're a criminal or you're just a demon but
42:52all i am saying is is that persons have reached the point where the individuals who are in coming
42:58into or on your property don't care about your life they don't they don't think twice about
43:05it's in you miss husbands i hear everything that you see and this is one of my moments where i
43:14will be very very honest yes i understand how the public feel public to be honest i feel the same
43:23way
43:24what we must abide by what is in the law i feel the same way i have a mother i
43:32have a sister
43:34i have family i have cousins i have friends i have relatives i have loved ones i acting as
43:40people still feel the same way but we have to abide by the law yeah i hear you and i
43:45understand you
43:46fully but you know like what he said there are persons who will deal with the law after the fact
43:51yeah whatever that is what is going on and that is once you will understand the consequences of your
43:57action so be it because i'm saying when you look at how many home invasions we're having the kind
44:02of persons that they are targeting persons who are more or less defenseless these guys are wicked
44:07wicked people they come into your places with evil thoughts and intentions so i hear you and i
44:12understand i am not the author of the law i am just delivering the message trinidad and tobago i am
44:19just delivering it yeah and just not nobody upset with you in any way all right i would not we

46:52i would love
46:52to hear that because the police is it's very hard but no murder we haven't heard that in a in
46:58a minute
46:59now unfortunately this week um a young man was shot and killed in the sentence area on tuesday night
47:06just before 7 pm it's alleged that men dressed in dark clothing with bulletproof vests bearing the wood
47:15police asp ms husband we have different branches of police yes state police there's municipal just
47:22different types of police and i mean sometimes persons engineer their own sign yes correct to put
47:29on what may even appear to be a bulletproof vests um but i know i'm aware of this um this
47:35murder um i know
47:37the homicide region one is actively investigating this uh this homicide uh we have no motive for the murder just
47:45yet but i know investigations are continuing you know condolences to the family of the deceased
47:49and one murder is too much and i understand we're experiencing such a quiet time you know with respect
47:56to murders um so i hope that we go back knock on wood we go back to that and this
48:02is just probably a
48:03worn off incident and that we hold the persons responsible for this in the near future yeah and
48:10of course condolences going down to the family once again now wrecking avenue persons will be out this
48:18weekend now before we touch you we can on the avenue you only tell you i told you all these
48:23records
48:23they're different they have their masters in wrecking you all take a look at this what happened on the
48:30avenue another van one was send james no he's not putting back the vehicle the vehicle is being
48:36removed and this is a popular spot now jackie if you could pause right this is what i wanted to
48:42make
48:42sure that we're sure the right side the bus stop sign we have to pay attention to that that is
48:48not a
48:48chill spot for people to relax and as a popular spot because there's a lot of um food outlets there
48:54and
48:54persons tend to you know they're not staying long but the wreckers move quickly i tell you husbands and
48:59and you know some persons i am i really i'm not sorry for them because look at where he parked
49:03yes this
49:04evening i am trying to turn into cv6 yard and there was a guy a guy had a white volkswagen
49:11vehicle
49:13and he packed blocking half of the entrance i had to pull extremely white to get into the yard
49:19yeah when i asked the security and the security said he told the security you were only coming back
49:26now you didn't hold on you know what make that person come to move the car when they saw me
49:34in
49:34uniform and i started to call for record to wreck the vehicle all of a sudden the person's lining
49:41outside could call him and tell him hey i think they want to call the record for your vehicle he
49:45came
49:45out and he moved it immediately and i am saying why we have to be policed yeah boy to do
49:50the right
49:50thing all the time why yeah the security spoke to him about it and one you know and look what
49:57happened
49:57all right we have another call caller good evening hi good evening good evening
50:03caller thank you so much caller
50:32okay so he was speaking about i don't know what aspect of id card and badge he was speaking about
50:37i think it's for the um officers they didn't issue remember they were waiting for it to be
50:42we're still waiting on that yeah well as i'm saying if they were issued um
50:47because i know they had some i know we had some issues i know i haven't i know the id
50:53card
50:53we had some issues with the machine but i think that would have been rectified
50:57with respect to the badges which is the silver yes i know that was another issue i have not seen
51:04that
51:04in a while i don't know if the police service is continuing with that i don't know if we have
51:11the
51:11budgetary allocations for that so i don't want to speak to that the id card is mandatory though um and
51:20i
51:20would have to do some inquiries to ensure that persons when they pass out that day because one of the
51:25key
51:25things and given evidence is identify i identify my way myself i would mention on to make a police
51:30service identification card so i wouldn't want somebody who's charging somebody for the first
51:35time to lead their evidence that when they have not been issued otherwise they shouldn't really feel
51:40at all they would be into some problems and their credibility will take a sharp decline so i would look
51:46into that and ensure that do my best to ensure that persons are already given all that they need
51:53to do their jobs to the best of their ability and respect to officers on a suspension and i think
52:00i know they do keep a part of their salaries i know there was a court judgment that indicates
52:05that we cannot punish them twice um with respect to that we have to take into consideration their
52:11mortgages the expenses and stuff like that i know there was a court order with respect to that a
52:16court ruling actually so um but they are in receipt of some sort of renumeration because you're innocent
52:22until proven guilty okay i understand now we have another call caller good evening hi good evening evening
52:30caller go ahead hi you can go ahead mom
52:42yes
52:47good afternoon ma'am
52:52hello i think we are trying to make sure we could hear
52:55yes ma'am

53:25okay well mr thompson i do apologize i usually
53:30leave your number and i'll call you i usually get back onto all persons that i said i would get

53:34onto so i may have had a little sip i'm getting older so probably that's what happens so leave your
53:41number and i will call you uh next week god's pay yes so you'll definitely get that information and
53:47remember you could also give us a call at 623 17 11 extension 1996 or 1997 and i'm hoping that
53:56persons
53:57were able to um you know get their questions answered the best way possible all right so as we move
54:04right
54:04along i'm not sure if we have another call right now but if not i'm going to head back to
54:12the phone
54:13lines and see because i don't want is the end of the week and i don't want this you're not
54:18excited
54:18let me get the call so we're not excited that we get the calls yes i'm always excited to to
54:25to
54:25educate the yes you know how we see things and how we operate you know all right so we have
54:31a caller
54:31caller good evening hi good evening good evening yes good evening caller all right
54:38i'm okay
54:40I'm just speaking of the people who are talking about the rules.
54:47So, what do you think you're talking about?
54:49Is there a difference between the people who are talking about the people?
54:57Yes.
54:57Yes.
54:57Yes.
55:04Yes.
55:05Yes.
55:05Yes.
55:06Yes.
55:06Yes.
55:06Yes.
55:07Yes.
55:07Yes.
55:19Yes.
55:21Yes.
55:42I appreciate that you know and you know we live in a society where nobody wants to pay
55:47for anything that they of the print and they shouldn't pay for it'd be of a situation with
55:51vending illegal vending and then when we do enforce the laws the same members of the public
55:57because it's okay when they are not shopping but when the season comes and you want to get your
56:03kitchen towel and your mats on you want to get the bargains on the charlotte boulevard
56:08you're upset with the police who try to enforce the illegal vending um we we cannot police by
56:14convenience or by whims and fancies so we always would want to encourage persons to do the right
56:21thing it seems situation what it is it's not it's not so much you know with illegal vending it is
56:27touching me a little bit it's a way in which you know your deal with the products when it is
56:34you
56:34are removing the persons who refuse to remove themselves from the areas that they should not
56:39be vending okay right because remember you gave reference to the avocado tree you have to analyze
56:45the avocado you added the avocado gang right and if the person is in the tree you wouldn't have a
56:50firearm
56:50to shoot the person out of the tree but in this case is the way in which they handle the
56:57vendors
56:57it's really really disgusting i know when i saw it i mean it's not it's not nice so you could
57:03deal give
57:04give them some sort of dignity show some sort of dignity um all right and i hear you let me
57:09give
57:09you the police officer's perspective the vendor is aware that they are not they are vending illegally number
57:14one so you choose to right agree yeah so we are having an enforcement exercise please do not do that
57:22why would the movement because that is the response you get a lot of the times you know because every
57:26person willfully gets up and pick up their stuff there is no need to use any additional force to take
57:35anything from them but if you refuse to move after we spoke to you nicely so you know you're vending
57:41illegally we would like it to remove the items well go all the pressure in the poor man and you
57:46know
57:46training that had to be we have a way where we want to make an honest dollar by doing the
57:50wrong thing
57:51listen we have to wrap things up esp but all i know is at the end of the day i
57:56always say you're
57:56all the ones that are trained and yes you will deal with different issues that's the reason why
58:00let them do what they want let me tell them no guys listen there's a event happening this weekend
58:06that is at the queen's park savannah just no reckon will be happening so make sure park in safe spaces
58:12also news is up next tnt have a safe and enjoyable weekend continue making yourself a hard target
58:17well be safe i'll see y'all next week god's villain
