02:38And we know Mondays are kind of a dreaded day for most people when it shouldn't be.
02:42I always say it's a make-money Monday.
02:43So make sure that your week starts off on the right foot.
02:47But today, for some people, it was a bit wet because it was rainy in the capital.
02:51Yes, it was a lot of rain poured today.
02:55And I know many persons were trying to maneuver their way throughout different areas.
02:59Now, from places from Cocorite into the city of Port of Spain itself, we saw so much rainfall.
03:07Maraval, I was even caught in the Cocorite traffic because of the waters that we saw that wasn't able to
03:14go anywhere.
03:15And persons were literally stuck in traffic for hours, thinking it was an accident or something major.
03:22No, it was just the rainfall that caught a lot of water to gather in certain areas, and persons were
03:27taking their time.
03:28And I hope persons also were able to be vigilant when it comes to driving in these areas and take
03:34your time.
03:35I saw a lot of cars also that had some technical issues or mechanical issues, I should say, with their
03:42vehicles.
03:42And I hope that things were sorted out to make sure that you reach to your final destination safely.
03:49Now, today's Monday.
03:50Speaking of Monday, we have a gentleman who is not just a man who gives service to all of us
03:57throughout Trinidad and Tobago,
03:58but a recipient of one of the highest awards in the country and the most humble individual.
04:04And it's not just him, but his entire team, he received this Hummingbird Gold Award, and he's here with us.
04:12And I feel proud I was actually able to see it up close and personal, not in pictures, not in
04:17videos,
04:17but I was actually able to see the Hummingbird Gold from our Captain, El Capitan Rambarat.
04:24Good evening to you, sir.
04:26Good evening, Whitney.
04:27And as usual, it's a pleasure to be here with you this evening.
04:32A pleasant good evening to our viewers on Beyond the Tape and TV6 and to our regional audience,
04:39especially in Grenada and international audience.
04:44As I say, it's a pleasure to be here.
04:46And sure, I know we would want to talk about the Hummingbird Gold Medal.
04:50Word is open, by the way.
04:52Yeah.
04:53And I tell you, we were as pleased as punch.
04:56I was pleased as punch to see all members respond yesterday.
04:59We had a bit of a gathering.
05:02And when I received the call from the President's House,
05:06it was to receive an award, a Hummingbird Gold Medal,
05:10on behalf of the Hunters, Search and Rescue Team.
05:12So today, I just want to say thank you to all 42 members.
05:19This is us here.
05:20It was a pleasure for me to meet Chokdus and Destra
05:24and all the other fellow recipients of awards.
05:28And here we are with Minister.
05:30And this is the Chinese Ambassador to Trinidad and Tobago.
05:35We have a long-standing relationship, even though he's recent.
05:39And yeah, so the three guys.
05:40So that is Johnny Maraj and Ram Natharam Charita with me.
05:45Here it is with Minister Rudal Munilal.
05:48And they were all, you know, elated at our team receiving the award.
05:53Again, you have MP Michelle Benjamin there with us as well.
05:59So it was a lovely evening.
06:02We were well received.
06:05And I tell you what, the congratulatory message continued to flow.
06:11There are so many hundreds still to respond to.
06:14And you asked me, let me tell you about my feeling.
06:18I felt honoured to have received it on behalf of these 42 members,
06:2240 in Trinidad and 2 in Tobago.
06:24And Whitney, when you look at our work over the last six years,
06:29it's like 2,000 families we assisted to have their loved ones reunited alive with them.
06:37And you're looking at having recovered 151 bodies, you know,
06:42in all parts of Trinidad and Tobago.
06:44And in some cases, you know, I think if it were not for our team,
06:50these families would not have gotten closure.
06:52I mean, I'm not boastful, but I'm saying what is the real thing.
06:57And we came about this concept and we would have been effective doing it.
07:05And we still continue to work this morning.
07:08We had a mission.
07:09And so it doesn't go to our head.
07:12We continue to do the work that we set out to do.
07:15And I wish to remind persons that all of this is voluntary work.
07:20Yes, all.
07:20Nobody draws a salary.
07:23Yes.
07:23And we all manage.
07:24And I will tell you how loving this team is.
07:27We could put together anything quickly, within an hour.
07:31Yes.
07:31So we had a little celebratory get-together yesterday.
07:34We had lots of food.
07:36Lots of food.
07:37Lots of eats and drinks.
07:38And we were by a swimming pool.
07:39And we had fun.
07:41So that's the thing about this group.
07:44And a group of persons get together and your pool resources.
07:47You get a lot done.
07:48Yes.
07:48We have more to show appreciation, as we say, give your flowers to you.
07:52Not just from the TB6 family, but other members as well,
07:57which we will touch on shortly.
07:58But before we go to that, we have to send condolences to the Mighty Sparrow family.
08:04Ninety-one years, standing strong from 1935 to 2026, the Mighty Sparrow stood extremely strong
08:13and contributed so much to the culture of not just Trinidad and Tobago, but the region and internationally as well,
08:21as you represented.
08:22And a Canadian-born, raised in Trinidad and Tobago.
08:26And we have to see what will happen moving forward, because this is going to be a send-off of
08:32our lifetime.
08:32I think, yeah, it would be a send-off of our lifetime, an icon, a legend, a musical maestro,
08:39a gentleman who started to sing and brought Calypso as part of the Caribbean music genre.
08:48He did his part.
08:50And, you know, these pioneers are great.
08:53And today, you know, we have to just reflect and say,
08:57thank God for this gentleman who had a talent and was able to bring this talent forward.
09:05So condolences on behalf of Hunter's Search and Rescue Team to the family,
09:10the friends and loved ones of the Mighty Sparrow.
09:14Really, really a musical genius.
09:17And, you know, Whitney, I grew up with him.
09:20And, you know, for the younger generations, he would have seen part.
09:24But I grew up with Sparrow and Kitchener's music.
09:27And so, you know, we know the full entire musicals, songs he gave to our country.
09:36The commentary, of course, that was given.
09:38And the way in which he entertained was a blueprint for many of the young ones that we are seeing
09:43before us today.
09:45Yes.
09:45And they're sampling his music up to this day.
09:47His music will continue living on, so Brady continue flying high.
09:51And, of course, condolences to the family.
09:53And I'm sure we will know what will be taking place moving forward
09:56because we saw pouring of love and appreciation from some of the different quarters of the region.
10:03Yeah, I saw that as well.
10:05From Barbados, also Jamaica, Guyana, our Prime Minister, opposition.
10:09So the influence would have spread throughout the region.
10:13And not only region, but internationally.
10:15And when you look at the work of Calypso Rose as well, she's gone international.
10:32Most definitely.
10:34And they touched every quarter of the world that you could think of.
10:37And it goes through the Trinidad and Tobago diaspora, I should say, Caribbean diaspora.
10:42Yes, yes, most definitely.
10:43Now, remember, I told you, apart from the members here at TV6 showing your appreciation,
10:48well, the TTPS wants to show your appreciation as well.
10:51Now, the Commission of Police and the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service extend heartfelt congratulations
10:57to Mr. Rambarat and the Hunter Search and Rescue Team on being awarded the Hummingbird Medal Gold,
11:04a distinguished national honor recognizing loyal and devoted service to Trinidad and Tobago.
11:12This honor is richly deserved.
11:14Though rain, darkness, dense forests, and treacherous terrain,
11:19the members of the Hunter Search and Rescue Team have answered the call time and time again,
11:26often with no expectation of reward.
11:29They have brought home the lost, brought comfort to anxious families,
11:34and brought closure where hope was fading.
11:37Their courage, discipline, and selflessness embody the very best of the spirit of Trinidad and Tobago.
11:44The TTPS has been privileged to stand shoulder to shoulder with this team
11:49in the field.
11:50Our officers know firsthand the value of their local knowledge, their skill, their unwavering commitment.
11:58Theirs is a partnership built not on paper, but on shared purpose and on trust forged in difficult moments.
12:08Their work is a powerful reminder that public safety is not the responsibility of police alone,
12:14but every citizen willing to step forward.
12:18The Hummingbird Gold is not an end, but an affirmation.
12:23The TTPS looks forward to strengthening this partnership as we continue together
12:28in our shared mission to protect lives and safeguard the communities we serve.
12:34To Mr. Rambarat and every member of the Hunter Search and Rescue Team, thank you.
12:40The nation has honored your service with gold, and the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service salutes you.
12:47I want to say thank you, but I want to say something.
12:51The first police officer that I interacted with at the start of this team
12:56was then Deputy Commissioner of Police, Ms. Joanna Archie.
13:01Mere days, I think it was a couple of days after Andrea's body was found, she reached out to me.
13:09The public was crying out for a search for the entire Arepo Valley.
13:14And Deputy Commissioner of Police, Joanna Archie, reached out to me and said,
13:20listen, Mr. Rambarat, let's work together.
13:22I need that entire valley search.
13:24And she said, we will work together.
13:26I told her, listen, we're going to mark out the entire nine kilometers.
13:31You get the human resources.
13:33I bring my people.
13:34And she reminded me in a message that even within a few days,
13:39Hunter Search and Rescue Team was able to feed all 250 personnel,
13:45both breakfast and lunch on that Arepo sweep.
13:48And Ms. Joanna Archie is a founding member of Hunter Search and Rescue Team.
13:53But as we went along, there were always the head of the Anti-Knappin Squad at that time,
14:00Mr. Darrell Ramdas and Roger Ramcharan and Inspector Phillip,
14:05and they contributed immensely to our growth and development.
14:09When Mr. Darrell Ramdas, both you,
14:13you say you have to learn the police service.
14:16Inside out.
14:16You feel like not calling them the next morning, you know.
14:20And then he would call and say, you're right.
14:22Yes.
14:23Let's build this thing together.
14:24And as we went along, we built solid relationships with police officers,
14:30senior, and at the level of the police station throughout this country.
14:34And I want to say this too.
14:36I want to thank Commissioner of Police Alistair Guerrero.
14:39I have great respect for the gentleman.
14:41I admire his tenacity, his work rate,
14:46and the manner in which he approached things.
14:49He's forthright.
14:50And I sometimes take a page out of his book.
14:54And I admire him for the work and the direction
14:58in which he's taking the Trinidad and Tobago police service.
15:01And if you work hard, I will say so.
15:05I admire your work.
15:06Yes.
15:07And you know you don't want to watch any more.
15:08No, no, I won't.
15:09I won't.
15:09I have no reason to say anything or sugarcoat anything.
15:13I always face reality.
15:15And I admire people's work.
15:18When it's a good or great, and you work hard,
15:20and I know you get the results.
15:22Now, Captain, I don't know if you're aware that was trending last Friday,
15:26another sitting of students in the roadway,
15:29and the commissioner had something to say on this.
15:31Now, there was a public advisory, and I hope to the parents
15:34and also the children who are sitting down.
15:36Look, again, you are listening.
15:37The TTPS warns against dangerous roadway,
15:40their trend involving schoolchildren,
15:43because it's a trend that is happening.
15:45The Trinidad and Tobago police service is issuing a firm warning
15:49following reports of schoolchildren deliberately
15:52sitting in the middle of the roadways
15:54as a dare or challenge to oncoming motorists.
15:58Let us be clear.
15:59This behavior is reckless, it is dangerous,
16:02and it will not be tolerated.
16:04A child sitting in the pathway of a moving vehicle
16:07is no moment away from tragedy.
16:10A driver who is forced to swerve or brake suddenly
16:13may lose control putting the child, the driver,
16:16passengers, pedestrians, and other road users
16:19at risk or grave risk of serious injury or death.
16:23No trend, no dare, and no social media video is worth a life.
16:28The TTPS is treating this matter with the utmost seriousness.
16:33Active investigations are ongoing,
16:36and the TTPS will take all appropriate action
16:39under the law against anyone found to be engaging in,
16:42encouraging, recording, or promoting this conduct.
16:45The police will be updated on the progress of these investigations.
16:50A direct call to parents and guardians.
16:53Please listen.
16:53Parents and guardians, the responsibility begins at home.
16:57We are calling on you to speak to your children today
16:59about the dangers of this behavior.
17:02Know where your children are before and after school.
17:06Monitor their online activity for content promoting such challenges.
17:10Make it clear that this conduct is unacceptable and has consequences.
17:16So school administrators, teachers, and community leaders
17:19are also urged to address this matter directly with students.
17:23Motorists are asked to exercise heightened vigilance
17:27in and around school zones and residential areas,
17:31especially during school arrival and dismissal times.
17:35Captain, this is serious.
17:36And I couldn't give a better advisory than that.
17:39That is very thorough, and I always say this on this program.
17:43What I admire now about the TTPS is a dynamic organization,
17:47and you have to respond to things as they happen.
17:50This incident happened, the TTPS got involved,
17:54and you have to put things like this in its track
17:56or else it's going to become a trend.
17:58And we have to let the younger ones know
18:01what behaviors are appropriate or not,
18:04and then we have to guide them on the safety
18:06so that they could secure their own lives.
18:10What they did there was put their lives in jeopardy.
18:13And they spoke about, you know, you don't know who's coming next.
18:16You don't know whose brakes is working well.
18:18Do not expect that car to stop
18:23or to just simply bypass you.
18:25Expect an accident.
18:27Stop that behavior and endorse the TTPS policy,
18:32I'm sorry, advisory.
18:33Strong, I should say.
18:34Strong advisory.
18:36And we need to put a stop to these things as they occur.
18:40Yeah.
18:40I remember you have a leather belt in your closet.
18:42Parents, use it wisely.
18:45Now, at this time, we get ready for our missions, Captain.
18:47Yeah, well, I'll start with one that happened today, a gentleman,
18:50by the name of Taran Galia.
18:53He went to visit his business place in Cooper.
18:58He is from the Penal District,
19:00and when his relatives at home didn't see him,
19:03they tried to contact him.
19:05He did say he was at a pharmacy in the Davie area.
19:09And so this morning, the Penal Police Station got in contact with us,
19:13just to alert us and to see if we could put some boots on the ground.
19:19At 1 a.m. this morning,
19:21his burnt vehicle was found in the Clarkson Bay District,
19:26and so we knew that something had gone awry.
19:29However, at around midday today, he walked in,
19:34he dropped out of a taxi, and he walked in.
19:36And his story is one where he was accosted by two gentlemen at a pharmacy,
19:43and he was taken and placed somewhere overnight.
19:46And this morning, I want to say this,
19:48this morning, when his relatives went to the bank,
19:52they were presented with a document
19:55where over $150,000 was either used in groceries and other places,
20:02and also $132,000 withdrawn from his bank account.
20:09The gentleman, when we spoke to him, he was incoherent.
20:14And he...
20:15Hold on.
20:16Yeah.
20:16Just pull it back a little bit.
20:18Is it that they went over the counter to that?
20:20You can't withdraw that from a...
20:21No, no, no.
20:21He would have gone.
20:23He would have gone.
20:24They would have been waiting for him to go into the bank.
20:26And to go through it over the counter?

20:31And they didn't raise an alarm, like,

21:50it may be that he's suffering from dementia
21:53and he wasn't taken to a doctor
21:56to be properly diagnosed.
21:58But it's rather unfortunate
22:00that this occurred.
22:02And thankfully,
22:04they allowed him to...
22:07out of a vehicle
22:09in the Marabella district this morning
22:10and he hired a taxi to get home.
22:12I am still confused about this, sir,
22:14because I know once you make
22:15and even a transfer to another account
22:17over a certain limit...
22:18or even withdrawing over,
22:20you're taking money
22:21from your deposit.
22:25There are protocols...
22:26You withdrawing money at a certain number
22:27and nobody call a supervisor,

23:37going to search from Coover
23:38to Claxton Bay.

23:40And I had already mobilized it
23:42in one side to go from Coover,
23:44drive west,
23:46and then take the Southern Main Road
23:48and go down to California
23:50and those other communities
23:52to search for him.
23:54And then we were going to have one
23:55coming from the south,

23:57into the Coover district.

32:31they visited last night,
32:33but the body
32:34was recovered
32:34this morning.

32:36as a severely
32:39decomposed body,
32:40so we'll have to wait
32:41until the police officers
