00:00Well, you feeling better that we have a neck-and-neck race?
00:03Is it neck-and-neck?
00:04That's what I want to know.
00:05Makes me feel better.
00:08Makes me feel, even though, gosh, poor Todd Munkin.
00:13If he doesn't knock it out of the park with the quarterback to start things off,
00:16like it is what, like you can have decent quarterback play
00:18and still have a rough football team.
00:20Does anybody, people might be saying that Joe Burrow isn't God's gift to the position now,
00:26but nobody's saying Joe Burrow's bad.
00:28Nobody's saying that.
00:30So you can have lackluster results and still pretty good quarterback play.
00:35Good quarterback play.
00:36And so this is a team that has some young talent.
00:39Certainly they have some young talent.
00:40I heard what Coach Lance has said.
00:44I think that's a football coach who wants to win now.
00:47You always want to win now, so there might be a little bit.
00:49I love Coach Lance, but there might be a little bit of moving the goalposts there
00:51when it comes to that stuff, but either way.
00:53You still got good young talent on that football team,
00:56and you might still have decent quarterback play,
00:59but you might not win it because they're so young,
01:01and they might make mistakes where you got a new head coach,
01:04and they might make mistakes at critical, critical times.
01:07That put out there, when you have this type of football team,
01:11if I got a neck-and-neck race, I guess it makes me feel better.
01:15But, man, if you get it wrong at the beginning of the year
01:18and then the new guy goes in there, it just makes Todd Munkin look bad.
01:22Like, if you pick Deshaun Watson, Deshaun Watson sucks,
01:24and you put Shador out there, and he ends up playing decent,
01:29it's going to go against Todd Munkin.
01:31If you put Shador out there, and he looks completely lost and sucks up the room,
01:35and you put Deshaun Watson out there, and he looks like he knows what he's doing,
01:38and he can make all the calls and do all the things,
01:41and they look like they're a pretty decent football team,
01:43it's going to go against Todd Munkin because he's going to want to win.
01:47Now, not as much because there's a lot of people who just still want to see Shador Sanders,
01:52but it's still going to go against him.
01:54Like, this is a very critical point for Todd Munkin here as this heats up
01:58because you've got mini-camp this week, and then what?
02:02That's it until what? July? Until we get going?
02:04And training camp, and we've got to go. We've got to move.
02:07And we've got to be ready for the season.
02:09So I'm glad that it's not as cut and dry as we were hearing before.
02:13I'm glad it's that way, but at the same time,
02:16that can add in some more problems and more likelihoods for mistake.
02:19But that's part of the job.
02:21You can't just sit there and be afraid to walk through the minefield all the time.
02:25I've got to do it.
02:26Yeah, I was hoping for somebody to, and there's so very little, like...
02:32To raise up and show that they can't be denied the job.
02:34Yes.
02:34I don't know if you're going to be able to do that in T-shirts and shorts.
02:37Because I guarantee Todd Munkin's thinking the same thing we all were.
02:40Like, it's got to be playing into the back of his head going,
02:42yeah, he's a veteran, he should look better, but we're in T-shirts and shorts.
02:45The amount of interceptions both these dudes are throwing are pretty incredible.
02:49So, and honestly, the tie goes to Shador if they're both throwing picks.
02:53Yeah, that's...
02:53Does it not?
02:53And look, I know there's like seven-on-seven picks that they'll say,
02:56well, don't ever throw the ball away in seven-on-seven.
02:59You've got to...
03:00There are other purposes of these drills.
03:02But still, to see like the one that Watson threw at the end of last week,
03:05I'm like, how is this even possible?
03:06I'm glad you brought it up.
03:07Like, there's certain picks that I've seen,
03:09and they've been bouncing off of people's hands and things like that.
03:12And then there's certain picks that you see, and it's like, that was the wrong read.
03:15Well, not a lot of people.
03:17This is why I think that the whole completions and incompletions and touchdowns
03:23and picks thing during camp is pretty asinine, but whatever.
03:26We're going to continue to use it until kingdom come.
03:28Even though it's silly, we don't know the situation.
03:31Only Todd knows the situation.
03:32Well, the coaches know the situation, and they do.
03:34So, if it was truly the wrong read and truly a mistake like that,
03:37that goes into consideration.
03:38But I do think it's playing a little bit with Todd Monk and Psyche,
03:41where, yeah, you look good in t-shirts and shorts.
03:44He's always looked good in that part of training camp.
03:49With the exception of, what, a couple years ago,
03:52where everybody said his arm was great, with the exception of Zach.
03:56Zach was like the only one, Tony, who was telling us that his arm wasn't that great.
04:00But this time around, it's like, all right,
04:02let's see if Shador has a chance to take over this job.
04:04I get more excited if Shador has a chance to take over the job,
04:07because I think it's way more fun talking about Shador than it is the other guy,
04:09if I don't think the team's going to do that incredibly well this year.
04:12So, I'm rooting for Shador to win the job.
04:14No, I still said, I think, what would actually be more ideal for Shador,
04:17ironically, would be starting the season off the bench,
04:21watching Watson most likely fail, and then coming in,
04:24while the offensive line has a chance to gel.
04:26Brand new offensive line, and those weapons aren't,
04:28they're rookies on week one.
04:30But in the NFL, when guys are good,
04:33like, that rookie label gets shed pretty quickly.
04:35Yeah.
04:36And then by, like, week five, it's like, oh, yeah, no, they're good.
04:38Like, this kid's good.
04:40This guy knows exactly what he's doing.
04:41Yeah, we're all in this together.
04:42And so that's why I thought, ironically,
04:44as heated as this is between fans, media, and maybe the players,
04:50maybe coming off the bench and allowing things.
04:53It's not like last year, where Shador started as the four-stringer.
04:57And, yeah, then they got rid of, I can't even remember his name.
05:00They got rid of Kenny Pickett.
05:01Yeah, Kenny Pickett.
05:02Then Joe got banged up.
05:03So now he's the third, and he's not really preparing.
05:07You could say, hey, you should always be preparing to start.
05:10But the reality is, if you're third-string, you're not preparing to start.
05:13You're mentally not, you can't possibly be.
05:15Well, what if you're fourth-string, what are you preparing to do?
05:17Right, right.
05:18So that makes it.
05:19Prepare to say goodbye to Kenny Pickett.
05:20That makes it even more difficult there.
05:22I think Dylan Gabriel's probably going to find out what that's like
05:24at some point here this year.
05:25I hate to say it.
05:26All right, 216-474-0092.
05:28But does it make people feel better that there's a neck-and-neck race?
05:31Because if you just think that both guys are bad,
05:33there's nothing I can do for you.
05:34Well, if you think both guys are bad and they're neck-and-neck,
05:37then you're thinking about next year's class or Brendan Sorsby.
05:39Because I think there's two different things.
05:42You can look to next year's class or Brendan Sorsby,
05:44or you think that both are terrible.
05:48There's two sides to that, and I think the other side of it
05:50is that you do think that maybe one of these guys can be gold for you
05:54and you can possibly get something out of these guys.
05:57I would think this way.
05:58With the move that they just made, I know that they got Verse back.
06:02It does tell me that they don't think that they have very much in the position.
06:05Because if they did, they'd just hold on to who they have.
06:07They didn't do that.
06:09Because you don't get worse and still try to get better.
06:12That's not how that's going to go.
06:13So you're still worse than where you were.
06:15No disrespect to Jared Verse.
06:16You're still a worse football team then.
06:18But if you had him playing, it just comes down to who do you like talking about more?
06:23Do you like talking about Deshaun Watson more?
06:24Do you like talking about Shador Sanders more?
06:26And I know a lot of people just tap out and go,
06:28Hey, man, I just want to win.
06:29I just want to win.
06:30All right, well, I can't guarantee the greatest chance with either quarterback.
06:33Yeah, you want to talk about a guy that you think...
06:35So it's who do I like more?
06:36Who do I like to personally talk about more as a Browns fan?
06:39You want to talk about a youngster that you think can be here five years from now.
06:44And right now, I think if you were to poll the audience and Browns fans,
06:48they would probably be thinking that guy is not on the roster right now.
06:52No, you are probably right about that.
06:542-1-6-4-7-4-0-0-92.
06:56Well, does it...
06:57You don't make you feel any better that it's a neck-and-neck race?
06:59I feel better than I did last week, I'll tell you that.
07:01A little better, but...
07:02I want the opportunity.
07:03When they had as bad of a practice, I know that Shador had to pass the bond,
07:09but anybody that was there was like,
07:10this is as bad as it's been for the offense.
07:12That doesn't make me feel better.
07:14Don't call it a comeback just yet.
07:16Cameron Wolfe, NFL Network.
07:19He was on over the weekend, says things are tightening up here in Cleveland
07:23when it comes to that QB race.
07:25Actually, pretty wide open.
07:26I know there was a lot of early conversations that,
07:28hey, this is Deshaun Watson's job to lose.
07:31From what I understand, Shador Sanders has had a really strong last few weeks of OTAs.
07:35I've talked to people with the Browns who said that Shador has really impressed them.
07:39He's progressing really well.
07:41A little bit deeper into that, what does that mean?
07:43The biggest thing is they've seen him grow as he progresses down the field as a quarterback.
07:48Sometimes he holds on the ball too long.
07:50Talking to people there who really have an impact on his decision,
07:53they have seen him grow in his processing.
07:55And I also heard there's something about him.
07:58Aura is a good word, is what I was told there.
08:00And so look, do not count out Shador Sanders in this race.
08:04And I also thought it was interesting.
08:05Todd Munkin said early on in the offseason he would love to have a decision
08:09by before training camp sounds like that may be pushed back.
08:14And I think that's because of Shador Sanders' work there.
08:17Deshaun Watson's also practiced well.
08:18But I thought one example of how close this race is,
08:22Deshaun Watson led a lot of the first-team offense in OTAs on Tuesday.
08:26On Wednesday, it was Shador Sanders leading a lot of the first-team offense.
08:29And Todd Munkin has said that, look, one day I go this way, one day I go the other way.
08:34I've known Todd Munkin for a while.
08:36If he says something, he's blunt and direct.
08:38He is not going to give you any crap.
08:40This job is open, and Shador Sanders has a real chance to win it with a strong training camp.
08:45Could be one that we watch and see.
08:47And maybe one of these guys can convince the Browns
08:50not to use a first-round pick on a quarterback in 2027.
08:53Well, that might be a little bit more than what a lot of people thought it was going to be
08:56when it comes to 2027, we'll wait about that.
08:59But let's go for the right now here.
09:01As this week starts, the mandatory minicamp that they have to be their last chance
09:06to get out there on the field before we get ready to go for certain next year
09:09and get ready for a 2026 season.
09:11This might be the biggest week of Shador Sanders' career as we get ready for this.
09:16Because I think after this week, Todd Munkin's going to go into training camp
09:20with a very strong idea that either A, Deshaun Watson is his quarterback,
09:24or B, we really need to give this young man a look here.
09:28Because everything we've heard has been Watson, Watson, Watson, Watson, Watson
09:32the whole way through.
09:33I got annoyed by it.
09:35Anybody else who didn't want to really see Deshaun Watson out there got annoyed by it.
09:38But I'm hearing about how much better he's getting.
09:40And then when Cameron Wolfe mentions the aura thing,
09:42again, audio courtesy NFL Network ESPN,
09:44when you get that saying, the aura, what does the aura mean?
09:48Can I throw something by you?
09:50Yeah.
09:50Do you think maybe some of these young players feel the same way as some of the old fans?
09:55Where it's like, man, like, you saw the way they reacted to the trade last week.
10:01Not a lot of them seem to be brokenhearted about that trade.
10:05Is it kind of that representation?
10:07I'm just asking a question here, guys.
10:11Is it kind of that representation that, you know, that's kind of old Browns.
10:15That's a disappointing era.
10:16We had some great players.
10:18They didn't win.
10:19I wasn't here.
10:20I was in high school.
10:20I was in college.
10:22And do you think maybe Watson, I know everybody just wants to win.
10:25So maybe this doesn't hold up a bunch of water.
10:28But do you think that they kind of go, you know,
10:31all I've been hearing about you is negative things.
10:32You've been here five years.
10:34I mean, if you're Carson Swessinger, you were in college,
10:37starting college when he first got there.
10:40Now you've got these new guys.
10:41And all I've heard about you is negative things in Cleveland.
10:43You could do a lot to change your opinion of people when you meet them up front and personal.
10:47I'm not denying that.
10:48But I don't know.
10:49Maybe he's a representation of the way things used to be.
10:52And they kind of want to get a fresh start in their own way.
10:54Just like what the fans do.
10:56So you're saying that they would advocate for one quarterback over the other?
11:00Well, you're saying the aura.
11:00No, no, no, no.
11:01Not that.
11:01No.
11:02But when you mentioned the aura, you know,
11:04there's definitely guys who people are more excited to play with than others when it comes to the quarterback position.
11:09And I wonder if that might be the case with some of these guys.
11:11Or maybe I'm totally full of it.
11:13I'm just asking you a question.
11:14I do want to be careful because I do remember people talking aura with Johnny football.
11:20And some of the young players they had on the team were like excited.
11:23Yeah, I understand that.
11:24Because Johnny was box office.
11:27Like Johnny was a Heisman Trophy winner.
11:29And he had commanded Saturdays on a big scale against some of the best competition.
11:34So I want to be careful of that.
11:36Because young players in all these leagues, they can be easily persuadable.
11:42Like they can fall for the same traps that emotional fans do.
11:45So, you know, we'll see over time.
11:48Like if I'm still hearing aura and that stuff come training camp, like actual training camp and not shorts and
11:54shirt season.
11:55Yeah, then that could start to mean something.
11:57So are you more open-minded because all of this now?
12:01I mean, you seem to want, did you want Shador to start the season of starting QB?
12:05Yeah, I mean, we've talked about that a lot.
12:07I know a lot of people accuse you not to be, but I just want to make sure for the
12:10new people that they know.
12:11I think it's always made more sense.
12:13What I was worried about was when anybody who had a chance to get there, either the people that have
12:21been there in Berea
12:22or the people that obviously there are members of the front office or coaching staff that talk to some of
12:27those national reporters,
12:28they were all saying the same thing.
12:29Like it's probably going to be Deshaun Watson, which was telling me that Shador was way behind the eight ball
12:34in all the stuff that Todd Munkin wanted to see.
12:37Has he made up some ground?
12:39Also, has Deshaun gone backwards?
12:41I don't know those things.
12:42I have no idea.
12:43It's hard to get a definitive answer on that stuff.
12:46Well, if it was you, let's do it with you.
12:47Like if it were close, doesn't the tie go to Shador instead of –
12:50It's always been that way.
12:50Okay, because I think the other guy will actively be –
12:54I mean, unless he goes out there for the first two weeks and throws four touchdowns each
12:57and the Browns come home at 2-0, then I think that's going to change.
13:00Fans are fickle, but they'll change.
13:02But I think that one guy automatically gets either jeered or booed.
13:05The other guy – I know a lot of people are annoyed with people who attack them on social media
13:12over the fandom.
13:14But I think a guy going to the Browns game with his kids and his family and all that other
13:18stuff,
13:19they're going to the game, they want to see him win, but I think they'd like to see Shador go
13:23out there.
13:23I think that they'd rather root for Shador.
13:27So, Tone, I think it's good news for a lot of fans out there that if this is heating up.
13:31Now, it can end up being bad news if we just find out that Todd Munkin's wishy-washy
13:35and doesn't know what he's doing, but we won't know that until after training camp.
13:38So, I feel a lot better about this.
13:402-1-6-4-7-4-0-92.
13:41Do you not feel – does it just make you feel worse then that it's close between two quarterbacks
13:47that might not have a future here?
13:49You know, you made a point that would be hard to surge forward for either of these guys at this
13:53level,
13:53but that is what I wanted to see.
13:55I did want to hear that.
13:56Like, I wanted to hear more of stories like that from that Cameron Wolfe.
14:00Like, I wanted to hear that across the board.
14:02Like, oh, it's almost becoming undeniable.
14:04One guy is going to be so far – because it's not – let's be honest.
14:08It's not like we're dealing with a quarterback competition from a position of strength.
14:12I know I'm asking a lot of questions.
14:13We're talking about Deshaun, who was, during his time with the Browns, one of the worst quarterbacks in the NFL.
14:18And we're dealing with a fifth-round pick who last year statistically was one of the worst rookies
14:22in the NFL that we've had in many years.
14:24So, if I'm hearing they're close today, that probably spells doom for that quarterback room, if we're being honest.
14:30Because I'm thinking if – wait, you think it's – if they're close today, it spells doom?
14:33It's just – it's not – it's the separation that you're hoping for, that one person would clearly be demonstrating
14:41that there's an upward trajectory.
14:42Okay, for the entire room, then I can see it.
14:44Because I want them to have – I'm kind of making this a deposition of you, and I'm not trying
14:49to do so.
14:50I want to have a clear indicator as soon as I can.
14:54And I thought that Todd Munkin wanted to, and I was excited about that.
14:57And I know that some – like Daniel Yafusi, he disagreed.
15:00He thought that he should have kept an open-minded going into training camp.
15:02I think you're being forced to keep an open mind going into training camp,
15:06which probably, as you say, does not bode well for the quarterback room altogether.
15:10Because you would want your veteran who's been there for a decade –
15:14who's been in the NFL for a decade to take the reins of that job,
15:17even considering the injuries, to be able to check everything down and do everything else there.
15:21If it's clicking with Shador, that's fine.
15:23But I just want to make sure it is an open mind to anybody,
15:26seeing as we have a new head coach who's an offensive mind.
15:29Like, are we open-minded to everybody, or are we just being open-minded to Shador?
15:34Because I don't want it to just be – because you know what this turns into.
15:37Handing jobs over to guys that people think are just going to get clicks during a bad year.
15:42That's not what I'm trying to do.
15:43If Shador wins it, I want Shador to win the job.
15:46Everybody and their brother knows I want him to win the job.
15:49But I want him to do it the right way.
15:51Because if it doesn't add up, then I'm willing to accept that,
15:54and I'm willing to move on to 2027.
15:56I'm more than willing to do so.
15:58Like, I'm not going to sit here and break my neck to try to find and look for different ways
16:03to not make it Shador Sanders' fault if things don't go well this year.
16:07Okay?
16:08There was some time – I'll admit, I did a little bit of that last year.
16:11Full-on admit.
16:12I get emotional.
16:13I got wrapped up in it.
16:14That's what happens every now and then.
16:15This year, you got a new head coach.
16:18I got technically another year with Deshaun Watson, whether you want to or not.
16:21I got another year with Shador Sanders.
16:23I don't have much time with Dylan Gabriel.
16:24He's not even a conversation.
16:26If it were truly an open conversation, would he be in it?
16:29Maybe, maybe not.
16:30I think a lot of us just look at that as a third-round mistake,
16:32and it'd be better off for everybody if we all moved on from each other,
16:35and hopefully that happens before the season.
16:36Because I don't – I remarked to somebody on the internet,
16:40I don't like it that I naturally arrive to negative things,
16:43kind of almost mean-spirited things when it comes to Dylan Gabriel.
16:47But with the other two guys, all right, I got these other two fellas,
16:52and if I can get one – if I can get the young one to play well,
16:57well, then I have myself a conversation.
16:59If I got the older one to play well, I got a not-so-great conversation to come around
17:03because I don't know how long I can trust that guy.
17:04I just wonder if, in general, like the Miles part of this enters the discussion,
17:09that once they traded Miles, a lot of fans thought,
17:12well, it's pretty clear that they don't believe anything.
17:14I think a lot of fans do, but they still –
17:15In this building, so what's the point?
17:16Because they still have – but they still have to go through a season.
17:19So if we're going to go through a season, we might as well kick the tires.
17:21Like, more than likely, Brendan Sorsby isn't going to end up with a Cleveland-Bruns.
17:24We still have to have that conversation.
17:26It's still a possibility.
17:28So it's still a possibility, no matter what,
17:31it's still a possibility for Deshaun Watson to get his nose up on his career
17:35and come back and do better.
17:37I still wouldn't trust him because of the injuries.
17:39I still wouldn't trust him because there has been up and down,
17:41mostly because of the injuries.
17:42When it comes to Shador, would I get to the end of the year
17:45and still fully trust Shador if he played the entire year,
17:48didn't look bad, and we ended up with six wins?
17:51No.
17:53No.
17:53I don't know what they have to do, either one of these guys have to do,
17:58during the year, to make me smack a gavel down on the table and go,
18:03that's it.
18:04This is the guy.
18:05Let me get off the 2027 list and let me set it right on fire right now.
18:11I don't know what either guy can do, but I'm trying to go in with as an open mind as
18:15possible.
18:16Todd Munkin, in his veteran status, gives me as much of an open mind as I can about Deshaun Watson.
18:21Obviously, with Shador Sanders, it feels a little bit different with how my history has gone personally.
18:25It's also interesting.
18:26I know Zach Jackson had made note of the fact that they were mixing in these zone reads
18:32and some other design quarterback run stuff, and he's like, you wouldn't be doing that,
18:37most likely, if Shador was the thought that he was going to be a starter.
18:41Not that he's not mobile, but he's not been what Deshaun Watson once was.
18:46We don't know what Deshaun Watson even is today after all the injuries and the surgeries,
18:50but you would think that that's an offense more tailored for Watson than it would be Shador.
