00:00Let's bring him on. It's Friday. Hello, Daryl.
00:02Hello, boys.
00:03You still feel that way?
00:04I'm sober at any of these radio shows.
00:07Come on, Daryl. It ain't that bad, is it?
00:10God, I wish Josh Allen was a Cleveland Brown.
00:12Oh, stop it.
00:13You were gushing yesterday.
00:14You didn't say it.
00:15Did you say that back in the day?
00:16Did you yell about that back in the day?
00:18No, he struggled for three years, Daryl.
00:20Best quarterback those fields in Brio, Ohio have ever seen.
00:23Oh, I'll see you.
00:24No, that's not true.
00:25Bernie Kosar was out there on those fields in Brio, Ohio.
00:27You stop it right now.
00:29I don't think Bernie was.
00:31I don't think Bernie was.
00:33He wasn't in Berea?
00:34Yeah.
00:35No, he had to be in Berea.
00:36He might have been in Lakeland, but they were in Berea for a time.
00:38They've been in Berea for a long time.
00:40That location.
00:42All right, Daryl, I'm not here to argue about when Berea did or did not play.
00:47You can text him.
00:48I can text him.
00:49We'll just ask him.
00:50Anyway, beside the point, did you call for Josh Allen to be drafted by the Browns?
00:55I don't remember.
00:56Probably not.
00:56Oh, convenient.
00:57No, that's a no, because every person who wanted Josh Allen drafted by the Cleveland
01:02Browns, you can't shut him up.
01:04It's the same thing as finding a vegetarian in a group of 500 people.
01:08It's a guy who can't shut up about being a vegetarian.
01:10It's the same thing about people who wanted Josh Allen, which, by the way, they ended up
01:14saying he would have been patient enough to let Josh Allen turn into Josh Allen.
01:18Well, so I guess we can't do anything.
01:20His coach in college, who is a Browns fan, anytime he does one of them three touchdown
01:26things, like, oh, okay.
01:28Oh, Ken, how did that work out?
01:30I know, man.
01:30I know.
01:31I know.
01:32So, anywho, all right.
01:35Unfortunately, John Dorsey didn't want to draft Josh Allen, and that was the only opinion
01:39that mattered.
01:40It's true.
01:41Yeah, I mean, John was a good guy.
01:44He's still a good guy, but had a couple of mistakes.
01:47I mean, Chad Thomas in the third round?
01:49Yeah.
01:49Lord.
01:51He basically drafted DJ Khaled in the third round.
01:54I mean, that was ridiculous.
01:56Anyway, all right, Daryl.
01:59So, Lyman and I have kind of had it out today.
02:02Not with each other.
02:04I think some folks are trying to, like, well, it's not fair.
02:07Well, it's not, like, we're trying to find ways to make ourselves feel better.
02:10I would feel a lot better if Shador Sanders were the starter.
02:13I think we've made that abundantly clear over the last eight months.
02:16You and me both.
02:17But I'm just ready to accept the truth, and I think the truth is, is that Sunday or
02:23Monday, Deshaun Watson is going to be named the starter for the 2026 season, but I don't
02:29think that that's a finite amount.
02:32I don't think that that's for the entire season.
02:34Your thoughts?
02:35No, I don't think Deshaun Watson, if he starts week one, will be starting the season finale.
02:42But, yeah, I mean, it's going to be him.
02:45I would be shocked at this point if it's not Deshaun.
02:49I don't really see the upside in that.
02:52I don't get it, don't understand it, but that's what the Browns are probably going to
02:57do.
02:57Todd Munkin's going to lean into the veteran and the experience that Watson has over a
03:03young up-and-comer, learning-on-the-job kid in Shador Sanders.
03:10And, you know, we're just going to have to suffer our way through however many weeks he
03:17can survive as the starter until they do turn this thing over to Shador Sanders.
03:21And, you know, maybe there's a conversation to be had that this could be beneficial for
03:26Shador, gives him more time to continue to prepare and grow and get better so that when
03:31he does take the field, the next time as the starting quarterback of the Browns, that he'll
03:34be an even better quarterback.
03:36Um, but yeah, it's, it feels like you're, you're staring at the iceberg and you can't
03:43turn the ship away fast enough and you're going to hit the thing dead on.
03:47Now we had on earlier in the show, Daryl, Sal Capaccio, who is your cohort, um, you know,
03:54at a different place, a different city, but he came in here yesterday and he said some really
03:59positive things about the Browns offense.
04:01And he thought quarterbacks, not a huge difference between them, but he thought Watson looked a
04:06little better.
04:06Yeah.
04:07And, uh, I would agree with that.
04:09Um, yeah, I did a, uh, I did a segment with Sal for our YouTube channel, uh, yesterday as
04:14well.
04:15And, um, we discussed that there, there were a lot of positives to take away from that
04:20joint practice, the setting the quarterback situation aside.
04:24Um, you know, obviously the Browns are woefully deficient in that category, but you look at
04:29the supporting cast around, uh, the quarterback, Dylan Sampson was electric yesterday.
04:35I mean, he, he really could be running back one, you get him into space and he is a problem.
04:41Casey Concepcion was electric yesterday.
04:44Uh, Denzel Boston catches everything that's thrown to him.
04:49So there's a lot to like, you know, Spencer for no, I thought had a good practice yesterday.
04:55The offensive line looked, uh, probably the best it's looked here during training camp
05:02yesterday.
05:03So there was a lot to like about yesterday's practice, uh, instead of just sitting and dwelling
05:09on the, the, the quarterbacks and woe is the situation.
05:13The Browns find themselves in and put themselves in, um, there, the, this football team, the
05:19young core, uh, should have Browns fans feeling pretty good.
05:23Uh, Daryl, uh, Jackson McCurry on social media just sent me a, uh, video from the Cleveland
05:3095 documentary.
05:32And, uh, it looks like Bernie's doing a handoff from Berea in Berea.
05:37Okay.
05:39Hey, at least, at least they're listening.
05:41It's almost 40.
05:43Listen, I can't remember what I did yesterday, let alone what happened 40 years ago.
05:48I love it.
05:49I absolutely love it.
05:50Uh, all right, Daryl.
05:52So I thought the offense, they did some good things yesterday.
05:57It was a little bit relieving the defense though.
06:00Do you think it might, this is, this is me trying to come up with a theory here.
06:03Go with me on this.
06:04Do you think that that's maybe been why the defense has been a little chippy because
06:08you know, they kind of got, and Josh Allen's a really good quarterback, but they kind of
06:12got to put on him yesterday.
06:13And I think, well, you go back, the offense struggled so much.
06:18Jared verse got chippy guys in the secondary got chippy.
06:21And I wonder if they were thinking this whole time, like we are not getting a look.
06:24We, we are professionals here.
06:26We need to get a look.
06:27You didn't get one against Chicago.
06:29We got a season that we're getting ready for in just a couple of weeks.
06:32Like we got to get moving.
06:35And then you go out and you're going against Josh Allen.
06:38One of the best in the business is like, well, we, we weren't ready for this because
06:41we're not getting a quarterback and we're not getting offense.
06:44That's, that's really sustainable going up against us in practice every day.
06:48Well, and I mean, that's, uh, was one of the questions I had going into that joint
06:51practice.
06:52Ken was this defense that good in practice because they've had the upper hand in practice
06:58against the Browns offense, or is the, the, the offense that bad?
07:02And I kind of think we got our answer yesterday.
07:05The offense just isn't there yet for the Browns.
07:08They've got the skill guys, but they don't have the quarterback.
07:11They don't have a quarterback that can take advantage of a busted coverage.
07:15Um, you know, it's, it's in, I posted this yesterday and people tried to ratio me over
07:21it because it was a busted coverage.
07:22Yeah.
07:22Well, guess what?
07:23I don't see Browns quarterbacks throwing footballs like that.
07:26Like I saw Josh Allen throw yesterday, plain and simple.
07:29Like I just, it was nice seeing a, a legitimate NFL quarterback, albeit for one time during
07:36this training camp.
07:37Um, and, and that's what you do.
07:39And, and so, um, I, I think it was a good eye opener, uh, for the defensive side of the
07:45ball to, to go through that practice.
07:48And, uh, I'm sure that next week they'll have the, the, the chip on their shoulder again,
07:53uh, going against the, the Browns offense.
07:56But I mean, just the, the level of competition is different.
07:59And, um, I, I think what's helping this Browns defense though, is these young skill players
08:06and how good they are.
08:08Um, you know, Quinchon Dudkins got banged up this week.
08:12Now, Todd Munkin claims it's completely unrelated to, uh, what happened earlier this week in practice
08:18when he got blown up, which I firmly believe was in retaliation for Quinchon blowing up Mike
08:25Hall Jr.
08:26Earlier, everyone will deny it, but that's what I think really happened.
08:31Um, and, uh, I, I know that that hit that Quinchon had on Mike Hall was not well received,
08:38uh, by the defense, um, or, you know, and Mike Hall was out of practice for a good stretch
08:44here.
08:45Now he's back and he looks great, uh, when, when he's out there and he was off to a great
08:50start to camp to begin with.
08:51And, you know, Todd Munkin has stressed that, you know, this stuff isn't malicious.
08:54It's just the, the competitive juices and whatnot.
08:57And he doesn't see, you know, any problems, you know, behind the scenes or whatever, but
09:02these guys are competitors.
09:04And, um, you know, they, uh, it was funny listening to Grant Delpit before practice, making the joke
09:10about how they hate, you know, Quinchon, obviously they don't hate Quinchon, but you know, Delpit
09:15having a little fun with it.
09:16And he's like, Oh, please don't run with that because, you know, then that becomes a thing.
09:20But I understood the context with what he was saying, you know, when they're, when they're
09:24between the white lines, it's their job to not like, uh, any of the offensive players.
09:29It's their job to stop those guys and, and vice versa.
09:32It's the offense's job to get after the defense.
09:35I mean, that's what the sport is about.
09:36It's, it is competitive and the juices go, you know, get going and you know, you're,
09:41you're going to have, uh, disagreements we'll call them, uh, in practice or whatever.
09:47And that's probably one of the things I really liked most about yesterday's practice is they,
09:50they got good work in against each other, uh, as teams, they did a lot of trash talking.
09:57Um, but they didn't, as Todd Munkin talked about, they didn't cross any lines and, you know,
10:02we're not sitting here talking about all the fights that took place.
10:05We're talking about tangible things that happened in a practice where the bills came into town.
10:10They got some good work in for them to prepare them for their upcoming season.
10:14And the Browns did a lot of really good things yesterday that are going to help them prepare
10:18for their season.
10:20Darrell, have you changed your mind about the offense or the defense so far since they convened
10:27at training camp?
10:29Um, no, um, I, uh, no, I look, I, I, I think that if anything, Anthony, a lot of my
10:38thoughts
10:38going into camp are being validated on a day-to-day basis.
10:42I, I really love this young core skill group offensively and that's been validated.
10:47I think the Browns defense, I don't think that they're taking a tremendous step back without
10:52Miles Garrett.
10:52Garrett, yes, you're not replacing that guy, but Jared versus a nice substitute and they're
10:56still getting the pressure and, you know, getting after it.
10:59Um, I still have some questions about the offensive line and, and their ability to gel and grow
11:04together here.
11:05It's a whole, you know, new starting five.
11:08I still have questions about the depth of the team and we've seen the depth of the team
11:12has been, uh, challenged.
11:14Uh, so, um, no, I, my opinion of the team, uh, really on either side of the ball hasn't
11:22changed.
11:23Um, if anything, it's been validated, even yesterday's practice, like validated a lot
11:27of things that I thought and, and, and, and against the, uh, a Bills team that they're thought
11:33to be Superbowl contenders.
11:34Right.
11:34Um, and so, yes, the quarterback's a major problem for the Browns, but when you take a
11:41step away from that situation and you look at the Browns team as a whole, they're in
11:48really good shape.
11:49They've got a lot of great young players on both sides of the ball.
11:53And, um, I think Browns fan is going to really enjoy watching these guys this year.
11:59The dangerous one, Daryl Ryder with us on the show.
12:01Do you think the fans are going to boo Deshaun Watson tomorrow?
12:05Uh, I, you really put me in a pickle there on that one.
12:09Well, it's just a question.
12:10Do you think they're going to boo?
12:11No, but it's, it's, I, that's also a very sensitive subject.
12:15I think, you know, Deshaun earlier this week said he didn't care and I don't believe that
12:19one.
12:19I don't believe him either.
12:20Yeah.
12:20I, I believe he does care.
12:22Um, and, and look, all the other stuff, let's just set that aside.
12:29Just from a pure football player standpoint, you have to really respect the work that Deshaun
12:34has, has put in to get himself back in a position to where he could start, uh, again for the
12:41Browns.
12:41He could have just pocketed the money instead of doing all the rehab.
12:44He didn't have to get himself in a position to where they had to open the 21 day practice
12:49window for him last year late in the season.
12:52Right.
12:52Um, so, you know, from that standpoint, certainly respect and command all the, the work and
12:59the effort that Deshaun has put in.
13:02Uh, do I think there's going to be some boost tomorrow if he plays bad?
13:06Absolutely.
13:07You know, if it doesn't go well in the third quarter against the third and four stringers
13:11of the bills, absolutely.
13:12I, I could see the, the crowd turning against him, but if he goes out and he plays well and
13:17complete some passes and maybe a touchdown or something like that, Ken, some scoring drives,
13:21I think the fans will cheer, uh, you know, the Brown, you know, Brown's fan or just like
13:26any other fan base.
13:27Okay.
13:28They have short-term memories when it comes to, uh, you know, the, the misdeeds, if you
13:34will, as long as you go out there and win and, and you play well.
13:37So if he plays well, he'll get cheers.
13:39If he doesn't play well, well, he'll get the other end.
13:43All right, Daryl.
13:44Blessings to you.
13:45We will see you tomorrow.
13:46I feel terrible now that I forgot that Bernie actually got to practice in, uh, that facility,
13:52which I still think is built on top of some ancient Indian burial ground and is cursed.
13:57But I mean, the, the stadium that they play in is technically built on top of an old landfill
14:03from a hundred years ago.
14:04Well, and that, well, insert many a joke there too, right?
14:08That's true.
14:09Daryl.
14:09Thank you very much for the time.
14:10You bet guys.
14:11Have yourselves a great weekend.
14:12Enjoy the preseason game tomorrow.
14:14Thank you very much.
14:15I will.
14:15Daryl Reiner.
