00:00I did like what I saw, for the most part, yesterday.
00:05I thought it was a very productive day.
00:07I know we were going to have some fun with the comment that Todd Munkin made.
00:11I put it in the open and be like, hey, that was fun.
00:15He viewed it through the same lens that I viewed it through,
00:18and that was, to me, it was just a glorified training camp practice.
00:21That's how I looked at it.
00:23But I didn't, you know, I just can't get up in arms over what we saw yesterday.
00:31Now, the quarterbacks, yeah, we have to dive deeper into what we saw from them,
00:38starting with Deshaun Watson.
00:40This was his audition.
00:41Next week, Shador Sanders gets his audition, okay?
00:46But a couple things I liked from Deshaun yesterday, just to be fair.
00:51Because I'm on record as saying that I would prefer Shador Sanders win this competition.
00:57I think that there's just more for the Browns to gain by going with him.
01:01I recognize with Shador, you're going to get the good, the bad, the sometimes the ugly,
01:08and then the sometimes just absolutely, I can't believe what I just saw him do, okay?
01:12And I understand that.
01:14I walk into that, Nick, understanding that's what it is, and I accept it.
01:20Yeah.
01:21Okay?
01:21Yeah.
01:22If Shador Sanders wins this competition and he goes on to break Peyton Manning's interception,
01:29well, he's not a rookie anymore, so I guess, but if he throws more interceptions this year
01:34than Peyton Manning did as a rookie, you know what?
01:36I'm going to live with it.
01:37I am going to live, yes, I'm going to complain about it, but I'm going to live with it.
01:43Because, again, I just think that there's more upside finding out whether or not this kid
01:47can do this thing.
01:48And he shows you some glimpses, but Deshaun yesterday, positives.
01:52One, came out healthy.
01:56Two, he looked healthy.
01:59Three, the decision-making process was pretty good as far as getting the ball out.
02:06I thought his best throw of the day was the incompletion to Harold Fannin Jr.
02:12that hit Harold right between the four and the four, and he just dropped it, couldn't
02:16hold on to it.
02:18Because Deshaun had to make, that was a snap decision.
02:21And I think maybe 2024 Deshaun could have danced into a sack there, where 2026 Deshaun
02:29with Todd Munkin rifled the football right in the middle of the field, and I think that's
02:34a ball that Harold probably has to catch.
02:36He probably wasn't expecting it, just because there was a messy pocket, and Deshaun was kind
02:41of under duress, but he got the football there.
02:43Yeah, I thought, for the most part, the ball placement was pretty decent, wasn't perfect
02:52by any stretch of the imagination, okay?
02:56You know, the one slant, I think it was to Isaiah Bond.
03:00Bond caught it, but the ball was behind him.
03:03Yeah.
03:03Bond made a play, which, by the way, that's what wide receivers are supposed to do.
03:09Sure, especially good wide receivers.
03:11Like, Isaiah Bond was supposed to be going into last year's draft, and obviously the
03:15Browns were able to pick him up as a UDFA, but I really do wonder with these quarterbacks,
03:20Daryl, one thing I really wanted to get off here, I hope that they have enough with the
03:25quarterback room between Deshaun, Shador, whatever, because I do think what I care about
03:31this year is developing Casey, Denzel Boston, and Isaiah Bond.
03:36Right.
03:36Because I really do think, between the three of those guys, you've got something there.
03:42Oh, 100%.
03:42Because Denzel Boston just looks the part of an NFL wide receiver that could play a really
03:48long time, and Casey Concepcion looks like somebody that could impact this team in multiple
03:54facets on Sunday.
03:56He looks electric.
03:56He looks absolutely electric.
03:57So, like, I hope you have enough from the quarterback spot, because those two kids, I don't want
04:03to say they're all I care about this year, because I do care about Quinshawn developing,
04:07and Dylan Sampson looked really fun yesterday.
04:09When Todd Munkin used the word fun after the game, I was like, man, I did have some fun when
04:13Dylan Sampson was, you know, rumbling out of the backfield there, catching the football.
04:18Which, by the way, these are things that Coach Lance Rislin and I have been talking about
04:22on our YouTube post.
04:23Yes, you guys have been talking about the increased usage of Sampson in that dump-down,
04:28check-down game, that that's sometimes the right play for these quarterbacks to make,
04:33and let Dylan use his explosiveness with his legs, and goodness, did we get a glimpse into
04:39that.
04:39So, there are things that I do care about this season.
04:41I don't want to say, I don't care about any of it.
04:43Get me to April and find me my quarterback.
04:45I do think that's what this season becomes.
04:47Well, I think this is your copium.
04:50Because these two receivers, I think they're more than copium.
04:53Like, these two receivers, I think, could be catching touchdowns in Brook Park.
04:56No, no, no.
04:57It's your copium for them not having the quarterback.
05:00Like, and I have said this for weeks now, when the obituary is written on the 2016 Browns
05:10season, it's going to be if...
05:112026.
05:12Yeah.
05:132016 Browns season, that obituary was...
05:15Yeah, that was awful.
05:162026.
05:172026, I pulled a Marty McFly, went back in time.
05:21It's going to be if only they had a quarterback.
05:24Okay?
05:25That's what it's going to be if they only had a quarterback.
05:28Because the supporting cast offensively is sufficient.
05:32Shador Sanders actually had...
05:34We were talking about this in the break.
05:35Shador Sanders actually had more time to throw the football than Deshaun Watson.
05:39Yeah.
05:39Okay?
05:40And that was with the, you know, second and third team offensive line.
05:45Hey, little hat tip, by the way.
05:46George Warhop, Spencer Finno looked good.
05:50Well...
05:50The rest of the offensive line work in progress.
05:53They'll figure things out.
05:54This looked like an offensive line that was playing their first game together because it
05:57was an offensive line that was playing their first game together.
05:59But, dude, like, Finno showed...
06:02There were some highlights circulating last night.
06:05Yeah.
06:05There were a couple big boy plays out of a rookie left tackle.
06:09Well, and part of that, too, is he's going against Jared Verse every day.
06:12And Jared Verse is not taking it easy on him.
06:15And Jared Verse is taking time to coach him and work with him and show him his moves as
06:21a defender and some of those moves that he's going to have to deal with as a left tackle.
06:26And also, too, guess who was, you know, mop-up duty?
06:31DeJuan Jones.
06:32DeJuan was playing some fourth quarter snaps.
06:35Did my eyeballs see that correctly?
06:37Yes.
06:38He is fighting for a roster spot on this team.
06:40That's what that means, Daryl.
06:41A hundred percent.
06:42He's on the bubble.
06:43Like, that's one of the other takeaways from yesterday's game.
06:48I think we figured out who's on the bubble.
06:49Well, you look who's playing in the fourth quarter of these preseason games.
06:55Dylan Gabriel excluded because, for some reason, I think he's safe.
06:58I don't know why, but I just think he's safe.
07:02Then how do they build out this QB room, brother?
07:05Because you said Taylor Greene wasn't getting cut either.
07:08Yeah, I think they try and keep four quarterbacks.
07:11And Baskin and I got into it last week.
07:14He thought I was off my rocker.
07:15And I'm like, listen, Andrew.
07:17Well, they've done this before.
07:19So I can't say you're completely off your rocker.
07:22It didn't last very long.
07:22It lasted for, like, 24 to 48 hours.
07:25But they did do it because how this works is you keep all four guys.
07:30Because if you're trying to trade one of them, okay, let's go down that road here for a second.
07:35Let's detour.
07:36If you try and trade one of these guys, you know, what happens is the GMs that you're on the
07:42phone with are like,
07:44Andrew, you're cutting the dude anyway.
07:46Right.
07:47You've got four.
07:47You're not carrying four.
07:48There's no way.
07:49Yeah, you're not carrying all four of these guys.
07:51We'll just go ahead and grab them on the waiver wire, okay?
07:54You're lucky we're even talking to you about the guy.
07:56Nobody's going to want him.
07:57We want him, though.
07:58And we're not giving you a draft pick for him.
08:01You're just going to cut him.
08:02And Andrew says, okay, watch me not cut him.
08:04And then let's have a conversation.
08:06And then Andrew doesn't cut him.
08:07And then you have the conversation.
08:09And listen, it'll be, we'll give you the quarterback and a sixth or seventh round pick so that we get
08:17a five or a six.
08:18Like, that's the type of trade it's going to be because there's no inherent value for Dylan Gabriel.
08:24There just is not.
08:26And I think that he's the guy that gets traded.
08:29Now, I did throw out there back in May that I caused a little bit of a ruckus when I
08:35said, I see a world where Shador Sanders could be traded.
08:40And I still do see that world.
08:42Now, just because I say that doesn't mean that I think it's going to happen or that it is going
08:48to happen.
08:48I'm just saying, I see the possibility.
08:50I think the possibility would exist for them to trade Shador Sanders if he doesn't win this competition.
08:57But by the way, everything's got to be on the table.
08:59Look at what we watched yesterday.
09:01Everything's on the table.
09:02There is no conversation that can't be had other than probably DeTron Watson because of all the dead cap money.
09:07We already know about that.
09:08But before this gets clipped for video and goes viral and I get torched, I want to add, I do
09:16not agree with that.
09:18I would not agree with that.
09:19I would like to see Shador Sanders play football for the Cleveland Browns this year and see what's there.
09:27Because here's, let's shelve the Deshaun Watson discussion just for a minute here and get into Shador.
09:35Like, that throw to Luke Floria, that 35-yarder, that's why you get excited about Shador Sanders and his potential.
09:49You could not ask him for a better read.
09:52You could not ask him for better pocket presence.
09:55You could not ask for better stepping into it, knowing you're about to take the hit, but you deliver the
10:02football.
10:03You could not ask for better ball placement.
10:05On the money, by the way.
10:07Like, the arm is real.
10:08The arm is real.
10:09It is the rest of it.
10:11That play, if we could get more of that from him, you might have something.
10:16Okay?
10:17The problem is you go to the airmail interception and you say that and you just go, oof.
10:24Or, and you look at the time to throw, where it's almost a second more than Deshaun.
10:30Now, he did look more decisive.
10:33He did.
10:34Than we have seen.
10:36He wasn't patented.
10:37He wasn't doing the thing where he was, you know, kind of deer in a headlight, just dancing in the
10:41pocket.
10:41He was taking at times what the defense was giving him on the checkdowns.
10:45Like, there was progress there with Shador Sanders.
10:49Again, that's why I want to see him.
10:52Because I'm seeing this progress from him pretty much on a daily basis with training camp.
10:57Hey, Daryl.
10:58I want to see more and more and more of that.
11:00And also the reason why you don't do it was, and again, I'm not trying to tear down what Deshaun
11:07did.
11:07Because there was progress for Deshaun in his own right.
11:10Just being out there was progress for a player that I really wondered if he would ever step foot on
11:16an NFL field again.
11:17When he was carted off with that ruptured Achilles.
11:20And then when he tore that Achilles again, I really doubted if he would ever play again.
11:24The fact that Deshaun's, you know, EPA, like the average pass depth or whatever, was four yards.
11:32Okay, in the regular season, you know what teams do?
11:36They start moving everybody up around the line of scrimmage.
11:40They start loading the box.
11:41And it becomes very difficult to run the ball.
11:44Yes.
11:44And it becomes very difficult to throw those little dink and dunk passes that Deshaun was throwing yesterday.
11:50So there needs to still be another step for me to feel even remotely okay with starting Deshaun Watson in
11:58a regular season football game.
12:00But that's why I'm not trading Shador.
12:03Because at some point, I do think Deshaun gets sniffed out.
12:07I think he does regress to the mean, which has been a pretty bad quarterback since he's landed in Cleveland.
12:13I think you're able to mask a lot of these things in preseason games against backup defenses.
12:19Chicago didn't play many starters at all yesterday on either side of the football.
12:24So Deshaun had to look good yesterday.
12:26And they made him look good for one quarter.
12:29The second quarter wasn't that good.
12:31So I can't trade Shador Sanders because this is a year where I might really need him by the end
12:37of it.
12:38So I need to see him continue to progress, even if it's not going to be all at once.
12:42And Todd Munkins alluded to that at training camp, too.
12:45Like, we all want it to be right now for Shador.
12:47Like, how awesome would that be?
12:49It's just that they've got to keep bringing him along.
12:51And I know that's not, like, a very fun thing for our fans to hear.
12:55That's not a very fun, like, sports talk radio, you know, subject is that he is developing.
13:01There are pieces of his game that are already there.
13:03The arm strength, the accuracy, that stuff is all there.
13:07But it is the rest of it.
13:08And that interception that really made you say, oof.
13:10Yeah, and again, that's why I said yesterday when I posted on X that I felt like I was watching
13:19a training camp practice.
13:20Because that's what that game felt like to me, is there were some great moments,
13:26some things that you really could lock into and cling to and feel great about.
13:32And then, yeah, the moments where you're just like, okay, great googly moogly, here we go again.
13:38And that's the ebbs and flows of training camp.
13:42And I thought both quarterbacks, Deshaun and Shador, I didn't really see anything good from Dylan Gabriel.
13:48I just, again, I just wish he would not be on the team and go play flag football somewhere.
13:53Or go be a quarterbacks coach somewhere.
13:57It's just the NFL's not for him.
14:00The good Lord did not bless him with the 6'2", 6'4", that he needs to be to be
14:07effective.
14:08He can't see when there's an offensive and defensive line in front of him.
14:13He can't see through the traffic.
14:15He's not Drew Brees.
14:17And honestly, I think that was the hope when they drafted him.
14:20He was going to be Drew Brees 2.0.
14:22I think we've confirmed he's definitely not Drew Brees.
14:27216-474-0092, did you like anything of what you saw from the Browns game yesterday?
14:32Did Deshaun Watson or Shador Sanders do anything to move the needle for you?
