01:27So, I'm going to ask you about the quarterbacks here in a bit.
01:29You know what I'm more concerned with?
01:30I'm more concerned with some of the injuries.
01:32Like, I saw their first padded practice earlier this week.
01:35It wasn't like hamburger meat like we saw with Hugh Jackson and his first padded practice years and years ago.
01:41So, they're trying to make sure everybody is healthy because I think, he almost said Hugh Jackson.
01:47I think Todd Munkin knows that, hey, it might be a team that's up and coming a little bit with
01:50some of the guys.
01:51But it's still a team that needs talent.
01:53We need to make sure that talent's going to be out there in the field come week one.
01:56Yeah, they had 16 guys not practice yesterday.
02:02You know, of the notable names, players that will not only make the team but are expected to have an
02:09impact this year.
02:09You know, Miles Bryant, no Carson Swessinger.
02:12Mike Hall Jr. was out again.
02:16Elton Jenkins, that's your starting center.
02:20Tevin Jenkins.
02:22Sam Kamara, we're still waiting to find out whether or not he's going to need surgery.
02:25He was carted off early in a practice earlier this week.
02:29And then, you know, Mason Graham, who's just been gangbusters here early in camp.
02:36He missed another practice.
02:38And then also Malik Collins banged up.
02:42So, not real crazy about the condition of the front seven from a health standpoint, but better, you know, safe
02:49and sorry right now.
02:52But, I mean, it is kind of part of training camp.
02:55This is what you see just about every year with guys getting nicked up.
03:00You know, Todd Munkin's pretty honest when it comes to answering questions with one exception, and that's injuries.
03:06He doesn't like talking about injuries.
03:08So, not a whole lot of detail on some of those guys.
03:12But, you know, I think Sam Kamara is really the one that you have to really, really worry about because
03:19he was carted off the field.
03:21And Munkin was unable to tell us if he was going to have surgery or not.
03:26But, yeah, 16 guys not able to practice is obviously not great.
03:34All right, Daryl, did you read anything on the reps yesterday, what they might signify for the quarterbacks in this
03:41competition as the install has come to a close?
03:43Well, I mean, Dylan Gabriel got a few more look like, and we knew that was coming because Todd Munkin
03:50told us that it was going to come because he had been doing well early in camp and, you know,
03:59showing development, showing progress.
04:01And, you know, so I'm not going to read a whole lot into them.
04:06I will starting today because now the installation is done.
04:11And now I think the real grading of the quarterbacks can begin because the focus, for the most part, in
04:19practice will shift towards more scheme-related stuff and getting themselves ready for not only their first preseason game but
04:27first regular season game come September 13th.
04:30So I think now really, because it's been every other day with Shadour and Deshaun as far as alternating first
04:38-team reps with those guys or the bulk of the first-team reps with those guys,
04:42I think now we really start paying attention to who's out there and what they're doing when they're out there.
04:50Because there was a series of 11-on-11 reps yesterday where I noticed Shadour was just turning and handing
04:58the ball off.
04:59They spent a lot of time yesterday working on the running game.
05:02Then Deshaun gets in there, and then, yes, Deshaun was handing the ball off, but also Deshaun was doing some
05:09play-action stuff too.
05:11And that caught my eye because it was the same series of drills, if you will.
05:18So that did catch my attention, but try not to read too much into it.
05:25Today we'll start reading into some stuff because, again, installs are over, and now it's about preparing for the season.

05:37Daryl, okay, so if it were week one, who would you start at quarterback right now?
05:45I'd start Shadour Sanders.
05:47I'm still firm in that.
05:50I would rather go with the guy that continues to show progress, that has come a long way,
05:59still has room to grow, not a finished product by any stretch of the imagination,
06:03still has a lot of things he needs to refine with his game,
06:07but I think there's more to benefit the Browns long-term by going with Shadour in week one
06:15because of the progress he's made.
06:16I mean, night and day improvement from the spring to what we're seeing now with him,
06:24but I don't think that that's what the Browns are going to do.
06:28Well, my God, how bad was he before, Daryl?
06:31Geez, if this is night and day, how bad was he before?
06:34I mean, I don't think it's about how bad he was.
06:42I've said this repeatedly about him, that he is basically getting a crash course in quarterbacking
06:52these last two years and doing a lot of things that he's never been asked to do.
06:59Todd Munkin is asking him to do a lot of things that Kevin Stefanski wasn't asking him to do last
07:04year.
07:05You've got to forget last year's offense because now that no longer matters,
07:08and you're learning a whole new playbook.
07:11And this is a guy who's never had to learn a playbook.
07:14And in his first two years, he's had to learn these two big, gargantuan-sized playbooks.
07:19That's a lot for a player that's not been exposed to that experience.
07:26And so I think you give a little latitude and understanding there.
07:29I thought last year, while, yes, there were as many bad moments for him during those seven starts
07:36as there were good moments, I think he's at his best when he's doing a little freelancing
07:41and things break down.
07:42He just has that natural instinct, that natural ability.
07:46We had a couple of games we saw last year toward the end where he had the Browns in it.
07:52Now, they didn't end up winning those games, but they came close.
07:55And it was because of Shador Sanders there.
07:58So I think that he has come a long way, and there's just more upside to putting him on the
08:07field in Week 1
08:08than just trotting Deshaun Watson out there trying to bleed something, anything,
08:13out of what's left on his contract.
08:17Darryl, is Todd Munkin being realistic when he says this is not a rebuild?
08:25I have a galaxy brain way that he's not, or that he is being realistic, I should say.
08:31I think this is a retool or a rebuild, however you want to describe it.
08:38They've had a significant infusion of young talent through the draft the last couple of years.
08:42Andrew Barry's had some first and second round picks to work with.
08:46On the surface right now, it appears he's used them very, very well.
08:51And the players he has selected are having tremendous positive impact on the team.
08:58I would call that certainly a rebuild.
09:03Now, it has not been an asset acquisition rebuild.
09:08And I think, Ken, when we talk rebuilds, that's usually where our focus and our thoughts lean towards, right?
09:16They're collecting draft picks.
09:18They're collecting assets and cap space and setting themselves up to, you know, in a year or two,
09:24do something with all of that, similar to what they did in 2014, 2015, and 2016
09:31when they burned it down to the studs and started from scratch.
09:34And we all suffered through that 4-and-44 stretch that they went through, right?
09:40So this rebuild is a little different.
09:43And it's not been asset accumulation driven.
09:47It has been young, talented player driven.
09:53And obviously, Exhibit A of that was the Miles Garrett trade,
09:57where you could have gotten a lot of assets from Miles Garrett.
10:00Instead, you got assets, yes, but you also got a tremendous young player in Jared Verse
10:10who's going to be able to come in and positively impact your defense, your pass rush.
10:17He's not Miles Garrett 2.0, shouldn't expect him to be,
10:21but he's going to be an impactful player for you.
10:24And so I think that's the lens with which I look at this right now.
10:28I think it's more of a retool than a rebuild based on just how Andrew Barry has made this
10:37about young players and not asset and salary cap acquisition.
10:41Because they're still spending a lot of money.
10:44Look at the contract extensions for Grant Delpit and Denzel Ward.
10:48If this was a full-fledged rebuild, would have sold those players off instead of extending them.
10:54Daryl, I brought this up yesterday.
10:57I want to see what you think.
10:58Do you believe that Jared versus leadership is worth more than Miles Garrett's sacks and stats in 2026?
11:07Yes, I do.
11:10And here's why.
11:12And I actually was having this conversation this week with a few folks,
11:15and they all told me I was nuts because of what Miles Garrett was doing as far as not only
11:22compiling the stats,
11:23but just on the field and his impact.
11:25And I said, well, I always fall back to that New England game.
11:29Yeah, Miles Garrett had tremendous impact in that game.
11:31He had five sacks, numerous pressures, got after the quarterback with regularity.
11:36It didn't matter.
11:37They lost by three touchdowns.
11:39You know what I mean?
11:40And a lot of it had to do with a very incomplete offense.
11:46That side of the roster was not in good shape.
11:50It's in better shape today than it was.
11:52But I kind of feel like the Browns are better off today with Jared Verse.
11:58As crazy as that sounds, because Miles Garrett is a future Hall of Fame player,
12:02I think Andrew Barry made the right decision there.
12:05It's a tough decision to make,
12:07and it's one that if Jared Verse does not turn into the player that I think he's going to,
12:11and then, you know, obviously Andrew's going to be criticized for it,
12:15just like he's still criticized to this day for the Deshaun Watson trade
12:18and some other roster moves that have not worked out.
12:20But if he does, I think that, you know, from a longevity standpoint,
12:26I think the Browns could very much be better off with Jared Verse than Miles Garrett
12:33because once their contention window hits, he's still going to be in his mid-20s,
12:38whereas Miles Garrett would have been 31, 32, 33 years old.
12:42Do you have any reason to believe that the stuff that Denzel Boston is doing
12:46on a snap-by-snap basis is not going to translate to the actual, real, regular season games?
12:52No. He is incredible to watch.
12:57It is a lot of fun to watch him go to work day in and day out.
13:04And the impact, and I have to throw Casey Concepcion in here too, Anthony,
13:09because he's been outstanding as well.
13:13But, I mean, those two guys are absolutely impossible to miss at Browns practice.
13:19And I can't remember the last time, I guess maybe Odell Beckham and Jarvis Landry,
13:25the last time I was this excited about a pair of Browns wide receivers.
13:31And they should, whoever the quarterback is, whether it's Deshaun, Shadour, Dylan Gabriel,
13:36maybe Tate Green, but whoever the quarterback is,
13:40these two young receivers should be able to help that quarterback tremendously.
