00:00Well, I know you're worried about the quarterbacks, but there were some good things that happened
00:03yesterday on Saturday with the Cleveland Browns. We talked about Casey Concepcion. He's been,
00:08he was fantastic. Absolutely fantastic. Some people are worried about him in the return game
00:13because they don't want him to get banged up. Your thoughts on something like that, Tone?
00:17Uh, no, come on. I mean, it's... I mean, you got to see him. You got to put a guy
00:21in who's a, uh,
00:22you got to put a guy who's a weapon in a position to be a weapon and get the ball
00:25in his hands.
00:25That's one of the ways to get the ball in his hands is in kick return.
00:27When's the last time we've had anybody like, now look, if he, if he turns into Tyreek Hill,
00:33um, then Tyreek Hill fought the return kicks and things like that. So he did. Um, but if,
00:38if he becomes that and he's like one of the premier weapons in the league, no, then yeah,
00:42we've got to, we've got to reevaluate. But right now let's, let's let him, let him get his feet wet.
00:47Let's get his bearings on all the different ways that he could be used in NFL game.
00:51I think it's a valid concern by some of the people on social media,
00:54a social media reactions on X brought to you by I've been jewelers, Cleveland's premier jewelry store.
00:59I agree with you. I agree with them. I think it's obviously a valid concern, but you gotta,
01:03you gotta spark this offense. I think this offense is going to be a bit of a struggle.
01:06Like I thought Spencer Fauno did a fantastic job back on Saturday. Uh, he's one fifth of the
01:12offensive line. The rest are, uh, picks up pickups from free agents or very, very young players as they
01:18are. Um, there's, I think it's going to be a struggle. I think it's going to be a struggle
01:23to run the football. I think it's going to be a struggle to protect. There was a couple of times
01:26with good protection. I wonder if Deshaun Watson, because of how long it's been, his clock was
01:31already quick before. I wonder if that hurried up the process as well with some of the other stuff,
01:35but, uh, one guy playing well across the offensive line is not going to make the best offensive line.
01:41So I got to do something to spark an offense. And if that's in special teams with Casey
01:47Concepcion, then I, I guess that's going to be the way it is at least for this year. Cause I,
01:53I got
01:53in and Hey, you can put Gage Larvidan back there. If you want to, there's a couple other guys, uh,
01:57Malachi Corley's on this roster. You could do that. He's on this roster, right? I think, well,
02:04you want to go through it. You want to go through it right now and go one by one. I'm
02:07having a brain
02:07fart, whether or not Malachi Corley is on the roster. Yeah. So you can,
02:11well, Corley, I thought, you know, the, the point of Corley is that he could play some special
02:16teams, but I say a bond back there. If you really wanted to, if, if you didn't, if you just
02:21could
02:21not stand to see Casey Concepcion in harm's way, that isn't on the offense. But I got a guy who
02:28can
02:28fly, who definitely was taken because of his playmaking ability with the ball in his hands.
02:33I got to put the ball in his hands. So him catching kickoffs, one of the finer ways to get
02:37the ball in
02:38his hands to see if he can, he can bring it out. And the same thing, even with punts.
02:41Um, it's Fana was good. I think that Dylan Sampson, what did you think of Dylan Sampson?
02:49I understand that there was the screen that worked out, but it's like, how much,
02:53how much do you give it there? Cause I thought he was fine. I thought he was, I mean, when
02:57I look at
02:57the three young guys that I paid closest attention to or stuck out to me the most, it was those
03:01three.
03:02And I think that, okay, they're young. It's going to be a young team as it is. That's good.
03:07But there's the backhand of it. And it's not a backhanded compliment. It's just the truth of it
03:11is that at one point, you know, Nathan did highlight in the broadcast. Cause I was on my
03:17way home. I had to watch again. I mean, you had one point in the second half and I'm talking
03:21early,
03:22like third quarter, second half stuff where you did not have any NFL experience out there
03:27and your secondary, or I think even in defense in general, at one point, like you, that, that is
03:32going to be a struggle because if you lose Denzel Ward, if you lose Tyson Campbell for a game or
03:37two,
03:38like that, that's going to show up and that's going to show up in a big way. So some of
03:41these
03:41guys are going to have to grow up very, very quick. Oh, you'll get picked on. Yeah. And that is,
03:46you know, that's why we have to be as well. I want to be optimistic. That's why we have to
03:50be
03:50realistic as possible. Like this is still a roster that's in, in very strong transition from where it
03:56was. And I understand that from where it was, wasn't that great, but that's what made these
04:00last how many years very disappointing is they should have been able to compete. They should
04:04have been able to strike while the iron was hot and put themselves in a position to make deep
04:08playoff runs for a while. They messed that up. And there's some good young players here. I think
04:13that last year's draft was good. I think this year's draft hopefully is going to be good, but you can
04:17see something budding fruit right there, even in the first preseason game. But yeah, you're going to,
04:22you're going to find yourself in a tough time where the schedule doesn't in that difficult,
04:26but there's still going to be guys who are going to be able to line up and pick you apart
04:29because of your secondary issues. If certain people go down. Yeah. You know, I look at guys
04:34like Dylan Sampson, who is still 21. Let me think about that. He's entering his second year and that
04:39changed in September, but he's still 21. So when you draft the way that they do, you know, guys that
04:45are
04:45that young, you know, you have to have a little bit of leeway and understand that there's, um, there's
04:50going to be a giant learning curve, but I thought, you know, everything we saw at everybody,
04:55the only disappointing thing, but it doesn't matter now. Cause we know he can play already
04:58is that Harold Fannin was not involved at all, but that doesn't matter. Like, I don't think that
05:03means he's going to be an afterthought. I know a bunch of fantasy people online. We're like,
05:07what do we do with Harold Fannin now? Is he not going to be a part of the offense? It's
05:10like,
05:10hold on a big part of the office. It's it's, he's going to be a giant part of the offense.
05:15Yeah. But I think, I think if the fantasy people are sitting there living and dying by every
05:20play in preseason to try to ascertain who's going to, who's going to have which role.
05:24I mean, listen, if you're sitting there and basic cover two, or even cover four or something like
05:28that, that's going to be one thing there, but your week one, and let's say, cause I think
05:32Deshaun Watson's going to end up winning the job. And I basically handed it to him, uh, at the
05:36beginning of the show today, whether or not you think that's right or wrong. Let's see what
05:39Daryl thinks coming up at eight 20. I just think the writing's there on the wall for us. We ought
05:42to stop
05:43messing around and just go with it. So you're still going to have a situation where you go week one
05:48and you're going to see things that are different. And, and Deshaun Watson has seen a lot of things
05:51that are different. He hasn't seen them recently though. It's been two years. So now you have this,
05:56this new look of these defenses that are probably old looks, but he hasn't seen it in forever.
06:02You're going to need somebody to be a safety valve. So if he's just on a leak, if he's just
06:07in the flat
06:07or anything, he's going to be a guy that they go to a lot. You saw it last year with
06:12inexperienced
06:12quarterbacks. What did they do with the, with, with Harold Fannin? What did you see with a guy who didn't
06:17have a great offensive line in front of him, but was an old quarterback like Joe Flacco?
06:20You're going to try to get the ball to Harold Fannin because you got to get the ball out.
06:24We got to get something here. So instead of first and 10 turning into second and 10,
06:28at least we can turn it into second and eight, or at least we hopefully have a chance to turn
06:31it into second and one or something like that. Like that's going to be part of it. Cause I can
06:35wait
06:35all day. If they, if they throw something that's going to confuse me, I can sit there and pat the
06:41football and wait all day until I get clobbered, hoping that Casey Concepcion and Denzel
06:47Boston get open. If I don't see him, I don't see him. And they may very well be open. But
06:53if I see
06:53that up in the sky or you're seeing that on TV, it doesn't mean Deshaun, Shador, Dylan,
06:59Taylor and Green are going to see it right off the rip. Who do they usually see? Running backs out
07:04of
07:04the backfield, but number one, you're, you're tight end and you got one tight end there. Your tight end
07:09room isn't even deep. Like you need another draft. You're going to need a couple more drafts to get
07:14any depth on this. Like we have to, it's not a bad thing. It's just the truth guys.
07:19We got a ways to go here. Your tight end room. You got one guy that you really can count
07:25on.
07:25And the other guy's a blocker and then everybody else. It's just whatever your secondary. There's
07:30a lot of like, you're hoping that Trey Avery can emerge, but there's a lot of names that are just,
07:35they're not going to happen. And then they get hurt in preseason game number one. So we're going to
07:40have probably by the time we get to, uh, to the Buffalo game next Saturday, we're going to have
07:45a lot of different names as backups in the secondary. Cause there's probably going to be
07:49some guys with injury designations or anything, but I don't think it's necessarily a bad thing.
07:53I just think it's the truth of the matter. You got some guys that are good, but you're,
07:57you're probably still going to struggle. Yeah. Why are we in this? Is it, is it just as easy?
08:01Is it just easy enough to say Deshaun Watson is why the draft picks that could have been used
08:06on Deshaun Watson is why like they, they, they certainly did not find enough diamonds in the
08:11rough though. Then that is something that the front office had to do. When you don't have first
08:16round picks, you create that much problem in the second, third and fourth round or that much
08:21pressure in the second, third and fourth round to find guys that are going to help. If you had
08:25first round picks to kind of calm things down, like how much better do you feel? And I want to
08:29know
08:29this too. How much better do you feel about the offensive line? Jessica Spencer Fano's on there and he
08:33looked good on Saturday. You may not because I pound your head into it that he's only one fifth
08:40of the starting offensive line, but immediately I start, well, they can, the offensive line is
08:44going to be better going into this year. Well, why? Cause they took Spencer Fano number nine
08:48overall could be a great player. You still need the four other guys to figure it out. So that changes
08:55how we think with certain positions. So if I had two other first rounders, now we might have a weird
09:02different discussion about Baker Mayfield, but it wouldn't be as bad as it is right now.
09:07If you had two other first rounders, I can't expect them all to be slam dunks in the first
09:11round, but if I had two out of three that looked really good and then you're adding in Spencer
09:15Fano, this is a different franchise. This is a different football team with different expectations.
09:22And I think that there's guys that are good here, Anthony, but I have to temper my expectations
09:26for the year. It's, it's not about same old, sorry stuff. It's, it's about just being honest
09:32and, and, and being forthright with people instead of trying to, I'd love to do super bowl, super
09:37Browns, but I think I know what we're going to walk into here in September.
09:41We'll say if these young playmakers are at another level and you'll see that even from rookie
09:49players, you'll see it almost instantly. If they are doing, if Casey Concepcion is doing the stuff he did
09:54in that preseason game in the regular season, that is one way to mitigate that disadvantage
10:00that you might have when it comes to depth on a roster. Like you can make up a lot of
10:05ground. If we are talking about guys that are at another level, if they're just average, well,
10:10that's still better than what you had, but that's not enough to make up for that. They need to be
10:14at
10:15another level. And based on what I saw at a KC, uh, that, that is enticing.
10:19Like what I get, there's probably few wins, but if I don't have any drama out of it, I think
10:26I'm
10:26moving forward in the right direction. And if I have those young guys that are able to contribute
10:30and look good and make big plays and excite the fan base, I still think I'm moving in the right
10:34direction. These are things that are different from the scoreboard, which is not what you want
10:38to hear for a team that's been struggling for 30 seasons, but I can't blame the 99 Browns on the
10:442026 Browns. And I can't make that comparison. I can only work with what I have and what we have
10:49right now. It's not a complete football team.
