01:13I was looking online at all these different houses.
01:17And it was the right time.
01:18Good prices and easy to get mortgages.
01:21So, made a move.
01:26It was a foreclosure, so that makes it a lot easier to buy a house in decent condition.
01:35I actually didn't know a lot about my house before I bought it, because it was a foreclosure.
01:38So, pretty much the online listing said, home located in Kalamazoo, great condition, sold as is.
01:50Everything was great the first few months of the house.
01:52Never had any issues.
02:00I met Dave about February of 2013.
02:03We started talking online.
02:05One day I bothered him enough to meet me, so he did and kind of hit it off.
02:13There were some issues in July, and I was actually moving to Kalamazoo.
02:17So, Dan said one day, you know, I'll move in with me.

02:26My first impression of Dan's house was it was a very nice house, you know.
02:29It was a good starter home.
02:33The first few days after Dave moved in, everything was good.
02:36We never had any issues with the house.
02:40It was just peaceful.
02:49The next few months, everything was calm all through holidays.
02:53The first experiences we had was right after we had visited my brother for the 4th of July.

03:07He just had it sitting on an end table at the house.
03:14We got home, and we were both tired, so we laid down, and it was probably 12 or 1 o
03:18'clock, and I had the TV on still.

03:24This guy doesn't have his own idea.
03:25I don't know where the door just slowly shuts.

03:35I got up and opened the door again.
03:44There's nothing there.
03:49I laid back down, and you could just hear creaking along the bed right next to me.
04:03A minute later, I heard something fall in the kitchen.
04:10I stayed up all night worrying something would happen.
04:18The next morning, he told me about it, and I was a little skeptical.
04:23I hadn't experienced anything in the house.
04:29First occurrence I was home by myself, it was during the day I just got home from work.
04:44I heard in the kitchen, the dining room chair slam against the floor.
05:02Then I heard a running across the kitchen.
05:14And the basement door fly open and hit the wall.
05:20So I hurry up and walk towards the kitchen area.
05:24And I see the basement door moving still because it opened with such force.
05:29And I see shoes scattered.
05:31Like, they're just thrown down the kitchen area.
05:41My logical side is fighting with me, saying this can't really be happening.
05:45But deep down inside, I'm terrified.
05:52That was the first occurrence I had at the house.
06:00When you're dealing with any type of aggravated spirit, they will do whatever they can.
06:05Obviously, the more energy that a spirit has, the greater the damage that they can do.
06:12Within a few minutes, David actually came home.
06:14Dan looked very startled.
06:15You could just tell that something just happened to Dan that he couldn't explain.
06:19After that happened the rest of the day, every little sound, you'd be worried that something else was going to
06:25happen.
06:25It goes from you being the sole person to experience it to, okay, now it's an event.
06:32Now it became real because you're not the only one.
06:38Putting aside the signs that something was potentially amiss in his home, Dan went to work on a renovation project
06:45in the basement while David was out.
06:51I was in the basement by myself.
06:52I was working on replacing some doors in the house, so I was chiseling out the hinges and cutting out
06:58where the door handles go.
06:59And as I was working on that, the cat had actually come downstairs and she was vibing while I was
07:04working.
07:06And the cat was looking towards the back of the basement.
07:09And then she stops and she starts growling.
07:12And then she starts backing up.
07:15At that point, she gets right by to where I'm at.
07:18And she starts swatting and hissing really loudly.
07:20And she's so frantic to get away that she actually does a backflip and flaps right on her back and
07:27is flying around and she runs up the basement stairs.
07:30I actually told Dan that the back corner of the basement behind the entertainment room, it was just like hitting
07:36a wall.
07:37You'd walk back there and out of nowhere, you'd just hit this cold spot where your hair would stand on
07:41end and you just felt this chill.
07:43And you could just tell there was something very unsettling about that space.
07:49So at that point, I go upstairs and I get up there and she's in the living room staring right
07:54towards the basement door.
07:55At that point, I'm walking towards her and she's just looking right through me or trying to look around me
08:01to sit at the door.
08:03And she gets frantic again, starts clawing towards that area and she just runs right to the bedroom and she
08:10won't come out the rest of the day.
08:14I got home after that, after what happened to Dan in the basement, probably 30 minutes later.
08:19You know, I went downstairs and started working on a project that I was working on while Dan went back
08:24to his doors.
08:24And Kitty, of course, was right next to you. She wouldn't leave you.
08:32Well, I turned around and I was staring at Kitty and she started swatting up the air out of nowhere,
08:38you know, just swatting up the air.
08:40And Dan walked up to the door and he asked me, you know, what are you doing?
08:43And I just let out a little loud shh.
08:47In that corner, three seconds later, you could hear a woman in a woman's voice going shh back at me.
08:56We both said in sync, you know, did you just hear that?
08:59That was the first occurrence where we were both aware and we both heard at the same time.
09:03We probably didn't go back in the basement for anything other than laundry after that.
09:10After a couple of days with no recurring incidents, Dan and David started to think it must have been their

09:22We were sitting on the couch and I kept, like, glancing back in the hallway just because a moment before

10:45Still skeptical that anything paranormal was happening in his home, Dan was alone one night while David went to the
10:52gym.
10:54I was just watching a TV show and that's when a lot of banging happened.
11:05Out of the corner of my eye, I saw shadows from the kitchen area.
11:15After that happened, the lights in the kitchen and the living room all dimmed, and then they flickered out.
11:26And then they came back on.
11:30It felt like my heart dropped at that point.
11:34There was a very musty body odor smell that you couldn't really pinpoint where it was coming from.
11:40You'd just smell it, and then it'd be gone.
11:47At that point, I just ran out of the house.
11:49And I waited until David got home, and he stayed outside for about an hour after he got back.
11:55I was terrified.
12:01I did believe Dan.
12:02Dan's a very rational person.
12:05So when he says, you know, you can't explain something, then I'd have to believe him.
12:10At that point, I knew we needed to contact someone and try and figure out what was going on and
12:16get some help.
12:18Terrified that the unexplained events in their home would get worse, Dan and David called in a father-daughter paranormal
12:24investigation team.
12:31The intent and the purpose of the pre-investigation is to gather relevant information and to substantiate if what they've
12:40told us is accurate and true.
12:42Just pulling up in the drive, you know, I looked at my dad and told him, something's off.
12:52And then definitely once we walked into the home, there was a very heavy feeling.
12:57It felt dark.
13:00Dan, nice to meet you.
13:02Thanks for coming, guys.
13:05Yeah, it's just over here.
13:10I was very relieved when they first came because it was a step towards something.
13:16Just seeing the video cameras and tape recorders, all that, it makes it more real.
13:23Well, during the walkthrough, we had them take us to the locations that they had specific issues that they could
13:30go back and, you know, and outline for us.
13:32We deployed all of our recorders.
13:35We used K2 meters.
13:37We also used an ovulus.
13:40They used their infrared camera and took pictures throughout the house.
13:44Thermal imaging, our thermal imaging camera, allows us to see in a realm that our eyes aren't able to.
13:53They did use the camera on the cat a few times.
13:56They actually picked up a really compelling picture they had of, there's actually a hand on the cat's back as
14:03she was looking up.
14:07You could see this arm and hand right on her.
14:10And it's like 30 degrees cooler than the cat's temperature.
14:14And you can see a hand going along its back.
14:26Having witnessed and collected enough evidence, Alan and Anna left the home to sort through their findings.
14:34Right after that first investigation, we did exchange a few emails back and forth.
14:39One of the emails, I was actually getting ready for work.
14:42And I was in the bathroom getting ready and I saw an email come in.
14:45And I'm reading this email from them.
14:47And as I'm reading it, I hear footsteps down the hallway.
14:50I open the door and I walk out of the bathroom.
14:53And David's in the bedroom.
14:57Hey, man.
14:59You don't believe this email I just got.
15:01And I'm telling him about the email that I had just gotten from Alan and Anna.
15:05And as I'm doing that, he stops me and he's like, there's someone behind you.
15:15All your hair stands up on your arms.
15:18You just get this primal fear.
15:20It was a very old man with sunken in cheeks.
15:22And it's a face you'll never forget.
15:25You know that there's something there.
15:28I've never been that scared in my entire life.
15:31Especially when it's looking right at you.
15:36The email from Alan and Anna said that they're 100% sure that there is something going on at the
15:42house.
15:43They had sound recordings and infrared images that confirmed and showed all the evidence.
15:50I'm scared I don't have to sell my house.
15:56Due to the findings, we made arrangements to get right back.
16:00And I think it was three days later we conducted our investigation.
16:06Alan and Anna came out for the second time.
16:09After about a few hours in is when there started to be a little activity.
16:16Alan and Anna were downstairs in the basement.
16:19They had the spare box on this old tool chest that I got from my dad.
16:22And Alan kept trying to ask who was down there.

16:28He was asking if someone was down there to say something to let them know that they're there.
16:36After he said one more time, give us a sign that you're down here.
16:39The box actually spun on top of the tool chest.
16:43We understand that you like to hang out in this corner, is that true?
17:06After encountering paranormal phenomena in their home, Dan Engblum and David Powers called in an investigation team to try to
17:13get evidence of any haunting.
17:16Their team's findings shocked everyone.

17:51I mean, I could not replicate or debunk it.
17:55We knew something was there and it had a strong enough energy to be able to manipulate an object that
18:01big.
18:01And so we knew it was probably serious.
18:04I 100% believe it to be paranormal.
18:12The next room we went into was the guest bedroom.
18:15They had hoped that they'd be able to speak to the old man.
18:17They did get him to interact a few times through the spirit box.
18:22We were in there for probably 15 minutes and the spirit box went from being very quiet to being very
18:27noisy with an old grumpy man talking to it.
18:32He was saying, F this and F that and F you and get the F out and just saying all
18:39these obscene, very vulgar things.
18:45I had a meter in my hand that would go off when there was an electromagnetic field near it.
18:52There were points where the meter would completely peg and my arm, I was holding the meter and my arm
18:59would just start shaking uncontrollably.
19:02I just had this electrical sensation pulsing through the left side of my body.
19:08And then out of nowhere it just grabs me by the ankles.
19:15It felt like we were being bullied out of our own home, yeah.
19:17It felt like whatever was there was manipulating us.
19:24A spirit, if given the proper energy, some of them can go beyond just moving objects.
19:30Some of them could actually physically harm people.
19:34Because even though their physical body is not here, their emotions still remain the same.
19:38Now that physical things are happening, it felt like we're in more danger.
19:42We were done at that moment.
19:44I didn't want to do anything else.
19:45I told them we're not doing anything else.
19:50They packed up all their equipment and they left.
19:54I felt like whatever was there didn't like us and wanted us out of the house.

20:09At that point, yeah, I felt defeated.
20:12I felt completely helpless because we had just gone through all of this and you had the hopes that we
20:19had resolved it and it just wasn't the case.
20:24Having reached their wits end, Dan and David moved out of their home and stayed with friends.
20:31It was probably a week after all this happened that Dan finally called the medium.
20:36I was skeptical about believing whether or not she could fix it.
20:50As soon as we walked in the house, we go downstairs and the medium said that she could sense a
20:56little girl.
21:00The little girl kept saying that she was hiding.
21:03She hid in the basement and then she said that she killed him.
21:07It was her fault.
21:14And the medium asked her, what's her fault?
21:17And she said, the fire.
21:21She said there was a fire and she did what her mommy and daddy told her to do.
21:27She said that she went downstairs when there was the fire because her parents told her that if anything ever
21:32happened, to hide in the basement.
21:33Right away, you just smell fire.
21:35You just smell like fire all around you.
21:38The little girl said that she lived in a farmhouse and she went in the basement to hide like she
21:43was told.
21:45And she said she heard her mom and dad calling for her.
21:47And they came downstairs and she said that the stairs collapsed and it was her fault that they all died
21:56down there.
22:03The medium felt that it happened probably 100 years ago or more and it was on the land that this
22:09had happened, not necessarily the home that I live in now.
22:12Just the same location.
22:16She told the little girl that it's not her fault that her parents are gone and told her that her
22:23parents are in the light and she needed to go to the light to find her parents because that's all
22:26the little girl wanted was her parents.
22:28And she said that she found them at the light and she said that she found them and the little
22:34girl, you just smell the fire went away.
22:37It just got a little bit lighter and you just felt good because you just felt like you helped.
22:51We made our way back upstairs at that point.
23:12Dan Engblum and David Powers were being haunted by the spirit of an old man.
23:18They enlisted the help of a medium to cleanse their house of negative energy.
23:23It's cold and dark.
23:25We made our way back upstairs at that point and medium was able to come across the old man in
23:31the dining area.
23:37She said the man was very vulgar.
23:40He said he was making a lot of profane statements and he said he didn't approve of us living in
23:46his home in sin.
23:48And he said he was a good Christian man and it's not fair that he had to die the way
23:52he did.
23:53While we were living in sin in his home, what had set everything off was when we brought that Bible
23:58into the house and the Bible made him angry because he had always been very religious and he felt betrayed.
24:07If the person that lived in that house who had died was of the Christian faith, sometimes the anger that
24:15somebody has or a spirit has is enough to fuel the energy it needs.
24:20We had discovered that he was saying that he was trying to get into the attic and the ladder fell
24:26out and he fell down into the basement on the basement stairs and that's where he had died.
24:34After we learned how he died, we realized that he was not at peace and we just wanted him to
24:43be able to move on.
24:46The medium helped the spirit come to terms with his death, allowing him to cross over peacefully.
24:52After they just were able to talk to him about his death, they burned sates throughout the house.
25:06We could feel his presence there for a little bit longer.
25:09Gradually it did fade.
25:11And since that day, there's not been another occurrence of anything from him.
25:15He had been there all that time and was trapped and had so much resentment that he couldn't move on.
25:26Ever since the medium came in, things have been perfect.
25:31After they left, the house feels completely different.
25:34It felt like homey again like it used to.
25:46Part of me wonders if I'll always be afraid to fall back asleep in the house by myself.
25:52Always in the back of your mind, that fear that something's going to happen again.

27:14and a place for the kids to grow up and have that small community feeling where everybody knows everybody.

27:50I was talking to one of the neighbors, and they were looking for a babysitter, so I just got a

27:57And she's a very happy-go-lobby little girl.
27:59And she's just a joy.
28:02Plus, she was just directly right behind my house.
28:06So it worked out perfect.
28:18I would take down the laundry to the basement.
28:30And then I had this weird feeling that I'm being watched in their basement, and it was, like, uneasy.
28:44So I just dropped the clothes down there, and I ran back up, and I was, like, eh, you get
28:49that eerie feeling.
28:58And telling my husband, you know, like, I don't know, it just feels weird being in that house.

29:09Like, I'm being watched, and he's like, yeah, it's just probably you're pregnant and whatever, and it's just hormones, and

29:19With no one taking her experiences seriously, Toni continued babysitting at the neighbor's house.
29:35I talked to my family about it, my sister, my brothers, and they all kind of brush it off.
29:51My dad would always say, just make the sign of the cross, and believe in God, and everything will be

30:15Tony leaned on her faith and tried to shake the unexplained feeling that she was being watched in her neighbor's

30:22One time, it must have been, like, maybe a couple of weeks into the babysitting, I felt like I needed,

30:31The mom actually told me, if you ever get tired, there's a spare room right next to the baby's room.
30:36There's a monitor if she wakes up.
30:50And then, all of a sudden, you feel like you're being watched.
30:54I opened my eyes and then couldn't move.
31:00And then, all of a sudden, these four things were, like, right there, like, two on each side of the
31:06bed, and they're looking down at me as I'm looking up.
31:09But I couldn't scream or move or nothing.
31:14And they were, like, in brown-headed robes.
31:18There was no face.
31:21It was, like, darkness.
31:41The baby, all of a sudden, started to fuss in her crib, and all of a sudden, I just jolted

31:51I looked at her around, and there's nothing there.
32:05I ran to see the baby and checked her out, and she was fine.
32:12I called my husband and said, you know, I had this weird experience, and this house is weird.
32:19There's, like, these four-robed monks around my bed.
32:23And he's like, oh, it's probably just a dream.
32:27Don't worry about it.
32:28There have been many cases involving what we like to call either incubus or succubus cases, where a person will
32:35say that they had a dream that they were surrounded by beings without faces.
32:41And they've felt an overwhelming fear come through them and almost paralyzed, where they couldn't move.
32:48They knew what was going on.
32:50They can see what was going on, but they couldn't do anything about it.
32:53And then the second time it happened, it was more intense.
33:14It was 1992, and Tony Rogers was babysitting at her neighbor's house.
33:22She went to take a nap, but realized she was not alone.
33:28And I laid in the bed, and I got the same feeling again.
33:34And I saw five of them this time.
33:40And there was, like, two on each side.
33:42One was in front of me.
33:46I was trying to scream, couldn't scream, trying to call for help, but no voices coming out.
33:53And there's this one at the foot of the bed, and he reaches out his hand, and he had long
33:58claw, nails, kind of thing.
34:00And he went, like, over my stomach, and scratched me.
34:10I did the sign of the cross with my tongue, and that's when I was released.

34:21Like, it's, like, terrifying feeling.
34:24Especially, like, you can't explain what it was.
34:27When dealing with the demonic, a lot of times, anything that involves a demon is usually never nice.
34:34It's one of the big things that demons prey off of is fear, instilling fear into somebody.

34:43Was it a sign?
34:44Was it to test me for my face?
34:46I have no idea.
34:48I just wanted to forget about it.
34:50And I just let it go.
34:53I'm, like, freaked out.
34:55Called my husband, and I said, this thing actually scratched me.
34:59I think there's something going on with the baby.
35:01Like, they're out to get my baby or something.
35:04He's like, oh, don't be ridiculous.
35:06Like, it's okay.
35:07And I'm like, no.
35:08I actually have a scratch mark on my stomach.
35:10Like, something scratched me.
35:13I can't be here anymore.
35:14And he's like, don't worry about it.
35:16We have an ultrasound coming up in a couple of days.
35:20Everything's going to be fine.
35:21But at that moment, I knew, like, there's something that's not right with the baby.
35:28I don't know what or why those things were there, but as a pregnant mother, I knew there was something
35:35not right.
35:38So I told the lady, I said, um, I can't do this anymore.
35:48So we went for the ultrasound, and then they found that there was something wrong with the baby.
35:56He was born on April 26.

36:02His chest cavity was too small for his lungs.
36:06And he lived for 13 days, and we had to take him off life support, and I had to say
36:11goodbye.
36:24I'm living in this house, and the plans were to have children.
36:28Feeling like a failure as a mom, as a wife, as a person.

36:54And Jesse was born, and it turned out he was a boy, and a healthy boy at that.

40:28And as she did that, my husband started to choke, because I felt like I was being choked, or I
40:33felt pressure.
40:34I didn't understand it, and we just let it go at that.
40:46A couple of days later, I go to my mom's house.
40:49I was going through my parents' photo album, and I spotted this woman in this picture.
40:55She had black hair. She kind of looked like me, actually.
41:00Completely taken aback, Tony saw a photo of the same spirit that had visited her only a few nights previously.
41:08And I asked my mom, who is this lady?
41:11And my mom said, that's Nonna, like that's my mother.
41:17I was the only one out of the, my family that was born in Canada, and so I've never had
41:23the pleasure of meeting any of my grandparents.
41:28I was freaked out, like why would my grandmother come visit me with a dozen roses and put it on
41:34my husband?
41:35I believe that there are spirits that stay behind for a little bit, because they do have a message that
41:41they want to convey to their family members, a loved one, friends, and they won't move on until they get
41:48that message across.
