00:55In 1988 I was living with my husband and my one and two year old daughters.
01:04We had just left a small basement apartment.
01:07So we were pretty excited to be able to move into a three bedroom split level house.
01:12It was kind of like a dream come true at the time.
01:17The young family was just settling into their new life.
01:20When Kat was contacted by someone she hadn't heard from in over a year.
01:26Maria was a friend of mine.
01:28Just out of the blue and there was no call display then.
01:30I just, the phone rang and I answered it and it was her.
01:40There was this hysterical person on the other end saying I need your help.
01:45And what really got me was when she said, they're going to kill us.
01:55Well she arrived on my doorstep with her son.
02:02She was a mess.
02:04She was disheveled.
02:05She was pale.
02:06And immediately she's going, I know you don't know me that well, but I always trusted you.
02:13And I knew that you would help me.
02:15So I let her in.
02:18She began to open up to me about what had been happening.
02:23Maria and Kat sat down to catch up on the past 12 months.
02:26But every word that came out of Maria's mouth, Kat found horrifying.

02:33She said, my husband joined a cult.
02:38When Maria got pregnant, her husband made an appalling confession.
02:44Halfway through the pregnancy, he said, we have to leave here.
02:47I've done something really bad.
02:49We have to go.
02:52She said, when I had an ultrasound and found out I was having a boy,
02:56he promised that boy to the cult as a sacrifice.
03:01It took me a while to even process what was being said to me.
03:06Maria told Kat she was scared but didn't really believe she or her baby were in danger.
03:13All that changed at her husband's birthday party eight months earlier,
03:17just after the baby had been born.
03:20They had had a birthday party.
03:23And then she said, I remember hearing my sister screaming and I'm realizing I'm drugged.
03:30He's drugged us.
03:33She said, there were these people in my apartment.
03:36And she said, I remember robes.
03:39I remember these black robes.
03:41And there was a fight, a physical altercation.
03:52She told me, I get up.
03:54Finally, I can walk, but I'm still really dopey.
03:57And she goes, there's this knife in my kitchen sink covered in blood.
04:05She goes, and I don't know why.
04:06I just started washing this knife.
04:09She goes, and then I look over.
04:12And my husband's in this industrial garbage bag.
04:16And I can see his arm is over, his head hanging out of the garbage bag.
04:23His throat had been cut from ear to ear.
04:28Nearly decapitated him.
04:31And she said, I made it back to the couch and passed out.
04:37When she woke up, that garbage bag was gone.
04:41He was gone.
04:44And they found him in a field across from the apartment.
04:51She said, people at the funeral home, they're all trying to say,
04:54well, he committed suicide.
04:56No, he didn't.
05:00Maria's brutal tale did not finish with her husband's death.
05:03It was just the beginning.
05:09She began to tell me that shortly after the funeral,
05:12and actually someone called during the funeral,
05:14and told her, it's not over.
05:18We're owed.
05:20That baby is ours.
05:22He was promised to us, and we want him.
05:27And I said, what have you involved me in?
05:35Despite her reservations, Kat felt she had no other option
05:38but to invite Maria and her son to move in.
05:42It would turn out to be the worst decision of her life.
05:47I had no clue what was being brought or entering my life
05:54or my husband's life or, most importantly,
05:59the lives of my children.
06:01Usually people, when they get into the occult,
06:04there are attachments that will attach themselves
06:07to those individuals.
06:08And that individual spirit can move and manifest
06:12to another individual.
06:14Because you have to remember there's a different level
06:15of energy that's playing here,
06:16a different mindset that's playing here,
06:18and the mindset that I want to take over,
06:21the mindset that I want to empower,
06:22the mindset that I want to control.
06:24And they'll take that opportunity,
06:26and they'll cause havoc with that person.
06:33Shortly after Maria had arrived,
06:37really some strange things had started happening.
06:41I would put the children's toys away before bed.
06:46My husband would get up in the morning,
06:48and the toys would be all out of the chest.
06:55And he'd say, what are you doing?
06:57Like, why?
06:57You always put them away.
06:58Someone's going to trip.
06:59And I said, but I did.
07:01I did put them away.
07:11Life had been completely normal before Maria arrived.
07:15Cat now became convinced the strange events
07:17were linked to her friend.
07:19She feared that by taking Maria in,
07:22she had also invited in the spirit
07:24of Maria's dead husband.
07:29I had hung pictures that I liked.
07:33Some of them are very old pictures, I should tell you,
07:35so I loved them.
07:36But they would be off of the wall.
07:40Some of them were smashed on the floor,
07:42like someone had just walked by
07:44and hit them and knocked them off.
07:46But it was very painful, actually,
07:48was finding my wedding picture shredded.
07:50The glass was shattered.
07:52The picture is shredded.
07:58It was the last straw.
08:01Reluctantly, Cat told Maria she had to leave.
08:03But any hopes that the weird events would stop
08:06were soon dashed in brutal fashion.
08:14The smell arrived in my house.
08:21I was in the kitchen between dishes,
08:24and I smelled this smell of rot, of decay.
08:31And all of a sudden, and I could feel my feet being pulled apart.
08:40This thing was going to have me.
09:06In inviting a troubled friend into her home,
09:09Cat Larson had also allowed a malevolent spirit to enter.
09:12And it was becoming increasingly violent.
09:18The smell arrived in my house.
09:23I was in the kitchen between dishes,
09:27and I smelled this smell of rot, of decay.
09:33And all of a sudden, I felt something against me.
09:42I couldn't move.
09:45And I could feel my feet being pulled apart.
09:49This thing was going to have me.
09:55I was trying to call for help, and I couldn't move.

10:45But for Cat, nowhere was safe.
10:53I feel this hand.
10:55It literally, the fingers were on either side of my,
10:58the tops of my ears, and it pushes me under the water.

11:06I remember going, I have to get out of here.
11:09To tell him I have to get out, I have to get out.
11:20I'm going to die.
11:21I'm going to die here.
11:30I remember thinking, just kill me.
11:36Just kill me.
11:45The attack stopped as suddenly as it started.
11:52Having just survived one of the most terrifying experiences of her life,
11:56Cat tried to block it out of her mind and move on.

12:05Several nights later, I had put my children to bed,
12:09and I'm trying to watch TV, but I'm thinking about what happened.
12:17Cat was confronted by an enormous shadow figure.
12:28It literally filled the entire door.
12:33Black.
12:35This thing was massive.
12:42And I'm thinking, oh, my God.
12:45Oh, my God.
12:46Because I could smell the rot, and it just charged at me.
12:58Once again, just as Cat thought she could take no more,
13:02the attack suddenly stopped.
13:08With her husband away, Cat was terrified of being in the house,
13:12with just her young daughters.
13:14She asked her mother to come over.
13:20My mom was coming over.
13:22Hi.
13:23How are you?
13:23And so I had this big floral picture I had put up,
13:29and I'm standing there talking to my mom,
13:30and it just flies off of the wall and smashes.
13:35And all of a sudden, something's got me.
13:41Literally grabbed me and spun and then banged up on the wall.
13:46And my feet come up off the floor, and the nail...
13:53Where the picture is hung, I'm slammed against the wall,
13:56and it's pulling me down, and the nail is gouting my back,
14:01and my mom is screaming, what's happening?
14:04What's happening?
14:05What's going on?
14:11And I said, it's gonna kill me.
14:16I was just sobbing.
14:17I just said, it's gonna kill me.
14:21You have to go.
14:22Take the girls.
14:23I said, just go, just go.
14:25It doesn't want you.
14:27It wants me.
14:34And I called my husband at work, and I said, I am done.
14:36I'm done.
14:37I'm done.
14:38I can't stay here.
14:40I can't live here anymore.
14:41I can't do this.
14:44I packed up my kids as much as I could grab in a quick amount of time.
14:54Myself, and I left.
14:56I went to my mom's.
15:03I did call Maria's dad, and I said, I need to talk to her.
15:09There's more to this.
15:10I need to talk to her.
15:11And her dad goes, you know, this is it.
15:15I mean, after today, don't come back.
15:17If you come back, what's been happening to you will get worse.
15:22When that individual finds out the person that it came from,
15:26where the initial entry point came in their lives,
15:29when they confront that person,
15:31they're technically confronting the entity at the same time
15:34because that attachment is feeding off them.
15:37I don't even recognize the face on this girl,
15:40and she's wringing your hands.
15:45They said, I'll always love you, but I can't ever see you again.
15:48They said, please, before he kills one of my kids, please.
15:54This is your problem.
15:56I said, you know, you should have never brought this
15:58to my home, to me.
16:15And I'm thinking, maybe it was just a warning to me.
16:19Maybe it's over.
16:21It was over for Kat.
16:23After seeing Maria that final time, the attack stopped,
16:27and Kat's family went on to live a normal life.
16:35I buried this for nearly 30 years.
16:41We don't even talk about it, my husband and I.
16:43He was really afraid that I might trigger something
16:47by talking to you.
16:58Invitations to entities from the dark side are not easily revoked.
17:02Once a door is opened, the spirit world has a habit of sticking around.

17:36After struggling with some health issues, Dustin Terry had been looking for a new and cheaper apartment for him and
17:42his son Austin to move into.
17:44What attracted me to the building was the location.
17:48It was listed, and it was fairly cheap in the paper.
17:52So I decided to call and check on it.
17:59The building looked like your older classic brick building with the old iron gate.
18:06It still had the old wood that used to be the outside of the siding.
18:11You know, it's kind of like stepping back in history almost.
18:16I did not take my son with me to see the place at all.
18:19He actually just kind of got a surprise one day.
18:24He thought it was cool because it was so close to Grandma, my mom.
18:29It was probably less than a five-minute walk for him in a nice area.
18:34I was hoping in this new place for a fresh start, basically.
18:45I was downstairs doing a little bit of laundry.
18:49The feeling I felt was just like you were being watched.
19:00I just blew it off.
19:02There's no big thing.
19:13What's it going?
19:23I know there's something there.
19:25As to what, I don't know.
19:47I don't know.
19:47Dustin Terry had just moved into his new apartment
19:50when he started feeling like he was not alone.
19:54I was downstairs doing a little bit of laundry.
19:57The feeling I felt was just like you were being watched.
20:20I was actually in the back part of my house.
20:24I was folding my clothes.
20:26And it sounded like someone opened my door
20:28and started walking into my house.
20:47When I looked and seen no one there, it was mainly confused.
20:51There's just no way to explain it, really.
20:56I did not think about wanting to tell my son anything.
20:59I didn't want to bring that to his attention
21:01at that young of an age.
21:06Dustin had started to feel increasingly paranoid in his home.
21:10He didn't want to tell his son, Austin,
21:12about his experiences for fear of frightening him.
21:14But the unwanted visitor left him with no choice.
21:21I was at home.
21:23We were sitting down in the living room,
21:27and one can out of the middle fell off.
21:35You may be docking the rail out of alignment.
21:38That makes it hard on trains.
21:41Whatever you can...
21:47And I'm like, okay, it's nothing.
21:49Nothing at all.
21:50I pick it up, put it back up there,
21:52start watching TV,
21:53and within 15 minutes again,
21:55the same can that I just picked off the floor
21:59falls down again.
22:08I was still confused.
22:09I still didn't want to admit it
22:10because I was still along the lines of,
22:13these are older apartments.
22:16I was like, no, it's got to be something
22:18that's very explainable.
22:20It just has to be.
22:21When spirits do things like pushing cans off the shelf,
22:25repeatedly the same thing,
22:27or opening a door the same thing,
22:28it's their sense of letting them know,
22:30letting the physical people know,
22:31I'm still here.
22:32I still exist.
22:33And that their process is,
22:34I still can do these things.
22:41Dustin put the events out of his mind
22:43and tried to get on with his life.
22:45His girlfriend of six months
22:47started staying over at his apartment.
22:51My girlfriend would come over,
22:53or usually once a weekend,
22:57I was watching TV.
22:59She said that someone just walked in
23:01and someone just touched me on my back.
23:06Someone grabbed me in the shower.
23:07Somebody grabbed me.
23:09There's nothing in there.
23:10Go look in the wardrobe.
23:14So now it's starting to get physical,
23:16and now I know I have a major problem on my hands.
23:22Worried about a possible intruder,
23:25Dustin started searching the rest of the apartment.
23:44She said it was just kind of eerie odd.
23:47She just felt a presence,
23:48like someone was standing behind her,
23:50and she didn't seem too comfortable at that point in time.
24:05I know there's something there.
24:08As to what, I don't know.
24:20Dustin decided the strange incidents
24:22were putting his son and his girlfriend at risk,
24:24and he needed help.
24:27I needed to look for someone to come in
24:31and do something,
24:32so I called in a priest
24:33from the Catholic Church in St. Joe.
24:38Like, well, I think that a house blessing will help you,
24:41and I think we should start one.
24:44So I said, okay.
24:45So without him knowing about it right away,
24:47I grabbed my cell phone and turned on voice recording,
24:51and I put it in my back pocket just to see.
24:58He starts with a couple of prayers,
25:00and he's reading from the scriptures as he walks through,
25:02and he does the holy water routine in every room.
25:07We get back towards the back area,
25:10and I noticed when he got back there,
25:12he was a little bit hesitant.
25:17I kind of monitored when they did leave
25:22that they were still pretty much looking around quite a bit.
25:25It wasn't like I had his 100% attention.
25:28It's like something else had his attention on the side.
25:40Dustin was not convinced the blessing had worked.
25:45After the priest had left,
25:47I decided to take the audio
25:50and transfer it over to my laptop.
25:51I don't know what's going on with that.
26:15Dustin Terry and his young son Austin
26:17had moved into a new apartment,
26:18but so far it had not been a happy home.
26:21A couple months ago. Really, I did.
26:27Dustin felt that someone or something
26:30was sharing their space,
26:32and he had called in a priest to do a blessing.
26:36After the priest had left,
26:38I decided to take the audio
26:40and transfer it over to my laptop.
26:47When the priest was talking,
26:49it was pretty quiet.
26:50You didn't hear anything,
26:52but whenever the priest would seem to
26:54want to start talking from the scriptures
26:57or do any kind of a blessing,
27:00when he would stop,
27:01there's this very specific
27:03and when he starts, it stops.
27:09And the minute he stops, it starts back up again.
27:12In the name of the Father.
27:21Something's talking back to him
27:22and doesn't want him here.
27:23The Son and the Holy Ghost.
27:29After I heard the recording,
27:31you know, I was in a predicament,
27:34is do I stay or go?
27:36I'm very tired of not feeling comfortable,
27:40tired of not knowing if my kid's going to be all right
27:43in the middle of the night,
27:44or if he is seeing more and he's just not telling me,
27:49because I don't think that's a very good environment
27:51for a 12-year-old.
27:56It didn't take long for Dustin's doubts
27:58about the blessing to be proved correct.
28:03One day, me and my son were coming up
28:05out of the basement from the laundry room.
28:11You hear a whisper again,
28:14you know, you can hear some footsteps,
28:16and we made it to the stop step,
28:19and we stepped onto the carpeting,
28:21and there was clearly coming up.
28:40I didn't want to tell him anything.
28:42I just said, let's go.
28:48When you can't see something,
28:50and you can hear the noise obviously going on,
28:52it's very, one of the most scariest things
28:55I think I've ever actually really been through.
29:02After the footsteps and everything going on,
29:06I knew I needed to look for someone to come in
29:10and do something.
29:11So I reached out to Laurie,
29:13to the Paranormal Society.
29:15I could tell in his voice that he was scared,
29:16and it was a very disturbing experience
29:19that he had been having.
29:20But the more people that I talked to
29:22and found out that I'm not the only one
29:24that was having these experiences.
29:28Laurie and her team started an investigation
29:30into the apartment building
29:32and spoke with Dustin's neighbors.
29:35A lot of these older buildings,
29:38like the one Dustin lives in, were motels,
29:41and they were converted into nowadays apartments.
29:44So whatever happened in the motels,
29:46you're going to get what is called residual entities
29:52that are still there.
29:53You're going to get residual feelings,
29:55emotions in the building,
29:57and it's like glue to a wall.
29:59A lot of people who cross over are afraid to cross over,
30:02and they'll stay here.
30:03They'll stay with that opportunity
30:04in order to fulfill that sensation
30:06that they're still alive somehow.
30:08I had heard other stories from other people in the building.
30:14I figured back in the 1930s and 40s,
30:18somebody had opened a portal in there via a Ouija board
30:25and brought this thing through it,
30:28and they did not close off the Ouija board,
30:31and now these poor people that are in Dustin's building,
30:34not only him, have to deal with us.
30:38When I first moved in and had these suspicions,
30:41I didn't think it'd get this bad,
30:42but as it progressed, it got worse and worse.
30:45Things like these are tied to the property.
30:47It's really, it's hard to get rid of.
30:49My best suggestion to Dustin was move
30:51when it was financially possible for him to do so,
30:55because it'll just stay with the property.
31:02The following night, things got even worse.
31:07It was well after midnight.
31:09I decided to go to bed early.
31:12My girlfriend's gonna stay up,
31:13and she says she gets the weird feeling
31:16of someone standing over you being watched.
31:24She kind of glances over a little bit,
31:27and she says standing behind the curtains is...
31:35a black mass that's standing there.
31:37Wow.
31:39And she looks down, and she sees dress shoes.
31:46That was about the last time she stayed the night.
31:51That manipulation of energy is all fear-based,
31:55and the more fear that that entity can create,
31:57the better it is the chances of it surviving.
31:59It makes me wonder, you know, what is it doing at nighttime
32:03when I'm sleeping in bed?
32:04Is it standing there watching me?
32:06If you're scared, that's energy for them.
32:08They take that energy, and they feed off of it,
32:10and they grow on it, and they create more havoc.
32:19Two days later, I could hear the sound again
32:22of somebody walk through,
32:25but this time I'm able to see that direction.
32:30And I can hear it walk through my house,
32:33walk through my living room,
32:34and walk into my bathroom,
32:36and it walks back out.
32:38And instead of hearing a normal close of a door,
32:41it's like someone slammed the door.

33:03Previous occupants of Dustin Terry's home
33:06had opened a portal to the spirit world
33:08and invited evil into his apartment block.
33:11Now he had to deal with the terrifying consequences.
33:17I can hear from a walk through my house,
33:20walk through my living room,
33:21and walk into my bathroom, and it walks back out.
33:25Instead of hearing a normal close of a door,
33:28it's like someone slammed the door.
33:39And I was done. I was literally done.
33:42I got up. It must have been 12.30, 1 o'clock.
33:45I grabbed my wallet, my cell phone,
33:47and I took off walking for the next five hours that night.
33:52Now I don't stay at home unless either my son comes over
33:55or my girlfriend comes over.
33:57I refuse to stay that night in my house alone.
34:00For now, Dustin Terry is stuck in his haunted apartment
34:04but can't wait to move out.
34:08I spend a lot of my waking moments every day
34:11trying to find a different apartment, a different place.
34:16Whether spirits are invited into a property
34:19through people meddling with the occult
34:21or by simple accident,
34:22the results can be equally devastating
34:24and can affect the victims for years afterwards.

34:49I had just moved to Lansing.
34:51I transferred from, for work,
34:52I transferred from our Detroit office.
34:55Nathan was my boss
34:58and we just clicked very well.
35:00We started dating just a couple months after we met.
35:03Months later, I ended up pregnant.
35:06Surprise!
35:09He ended up very quickly moving out to Lansing with me.
35:20We got the house together
35:21and I'm a stay-at-home mom
35:23so it's important for me to find a house
35:25that I feel comfortable in.
35:28The house was, it was cute, small house.
35:31Four bedrooms, perfect for myself, Nathan,
35:35and, you know, Adam who's one.
35:37He liked the house because he had the room to run around
35:39and, you know, he had a pretty good-sized yard for him.
35:48Lillian is a practicing Wiccan
35:50and she saged her new home
35:52to cleanse it of any negative energy.
35:55Being a Wiccan and being a witch,
35:57you have to protect yourself.
35:59You have to protect your family.
36:00She would go around the house
36:02with it kind of smoldering
36:04and she would have a prayer that she would say.
36:09When someone cleanses their house with sage,
36:12they're going from room to room
36:13to sweeping out the room
36:14to removing the cupboards of negative energy.
36:16That intention is very powerful, very strong.
36:19She knew I came from a Christian background.
36:21I was, I guess you would say,
36:24typical, closed-minded,
36:26you know, about those types of things
36:28and it just always seemed real cheesy to me.
36:35Adam started seeing a little boy.
36:39You know, he started complaining about it,
36:42like, you know, he's just out there
36:43and he's watching me.
36:48I was playing with Adam
36:49and he had brought up
36:51the little boy being outside.
37:01I knew it wasn't a little boy
37:03because our neighbors
37:04didn't have
37:06little boy children
37:07and our house was kind of far off of the road
37:10so there was really no way.
37:19I knew it was a ghost.
37:21I knew.
37:22I, I, right away.
37:23And I had asked him, you know,
37:24is he scary?
37:26Does he, you know, does he frighten you?
37:28Does he make you uncomfortable?
37:30And he said no.
37:32So I told him, I said,
37:33well, tell him to come in and play with you.
37:34And right away he said,
37:36come on in and, and play.
37:38He shouldn't have done that.
37:40It started creating
37:41some really bad problems.
37:43When a child invites someone
37:45that's their, their play children,
37:47you know, that's outside,
37:48they're playing in there,
37:48they're coming to the house,
37:49that spirit will manifest itself
37:51into a little boy, a little girl,
37:53a little friend.
37:54And sooner or later,
37:55that entity will start ostracizing
37:57against the mother and her father.
38:06We would play music for Adam
38:08when he was going to sleep.
38:09And it was always on really soft.
38:10And it was up on the dresser
38:12where he couldn't reach the,
38:13the iPod and the,
38:15the little radio it was connected to.
38:18We were just laying in bed.
38:19It was like two o'clock in the morning.
38:21We were watching TV
38:22and I heard music
38:25and it was like really loud.
38:39We had a certain playlist for him
38:42and it would jump off of the playlist
38:45into the song,
38:46into the artists,
38:47go down to a specific artist
38:48and play a certain song.
39:05It got to the point
39:06where it was almost
39:07a daily occurrence.
39:10I was afraid
39:12that it had something
39:13to do with,
39:14you know,
39:15me inviting the,
39:17the ghost
39:18or whatever it was
39:19inside the house.
39:24And having been invited in,
39:26this entity
39:27was only going to get worse.
39:31When a negative spirit
39:32enters your house,
39:33it feeds off of the negativity,
39:34not just fear,
39:35but off negativity.
39:36So it makes people fight
39:38inside their homes.
39:39There was an incident
39:40where we were arguing.
39:41Wait!

40:29uneasy feeling

40:35but off negativity.

40:38fight inside their homes.

41:43and Nathan's relationship.

41:48watching TV
41:50and I felt a knock
41:52from underneath the bed.

42:02a pretty hard hit.

42:59with another addition

43:04It was beautiful.

43:15about wanting to live in
43:16since we got together.

44:54it would be dragged
44:54towards the closet door.
45:14At that point,
45:15I would get a really
45:16negative feeling
45:17being in that room
45:18and I wanted
45:20to get out of there.
45:24Fearing for the safety
45:26of their new baby,
45:27Lillian and Nathan
45:28decided enough was enough
45:30and moved house again.
45:33Within a week,
45:34I found a house,
45:35I put a down payment.
45:36We were set to move.
45:38It really was hard
45:40to have to move out
45:41because I really did
45:44want that house.
45:45Since all of that happened,
45:47I'm not skeptical at all
45:48when it comes to
45:49paranormal experiences.
45:52When it comes down
45:53to it,
45:54Nathan's mental well-being
45:55is more important
45:56than my comfort.
45:57I was very happy
45:59to be away
46:00from such a negative feeling.
46:04Nathan has learned
46:05his lesson
46:05not to mess around
46:06with the spirit world
46:07and so far,
46:09their new home
46:09has been paranormal-free.
