00:00Strong sunshine and high temperatures as the UK experiences its third heat wave in seven weeks.
00:07It won't be that hot everywhere.
00:09To start with, we've got weather fronts actually draped across northern Britain, bringing outbreaks of rain.
00:15We've got high pressure dominating down to the south, and this high will eventually topple its way in.
00:20The jet stream is moving these weather systems in, bringing some wet weather on Monday night across the north.
00:26But eventually, the jet kind of buckles and pushes more up to the north, up towards Iceland, taking the low
00:33pressures here, allowing the high pressure to establish itself,
00:37gradually moving its way eastwards, which might switch the winds around a little bit towards the end of the week.
00:43But basically, the heat will be building and becoming more widespread over the next few days.
00:48So we start off with the heat really concentrated to the south of this cold front across southern portions of
00:55the UK,
00:55where again, on Tuesday, we're likely to get up to 31 or 32 degrees Celsius, much fresher further north.
01:03Temperatures in the northwest of Scotland in the mid-teens at best.
01:07And it will be quite cloudy here with some outbreaks of rain.
01:10Those weather fronts we saw earlier providing quite a damp start, some showery rain for northern Ireland.
01:15Quite a bit of cloud, certainly initially over northern England.
01:17Further south, though, it should be, by and large, a day of strong, hazy sunshine.
01:23UV levels are very high in places throughout this week, so you will need the sunscreen on.
01:28And many places will be seeing sunny spells by the end of the afternoon, staying fairly cloudy across the highlands
01:34of Scotland,
01:34with further outbreaks of rain on and off here as those weather fronts continue to topple their way in.
01:40But during Tuesday night and Wednesday, that's when the high really establishes itself more widely.
01:45And that will mean the warmer air pushes further north.
01:49So it will be a hotter day for certainly the likes of eastern Scotland and much of northern England on
01:55Wednesday.
01:56Still a lot of cloud with some showery outbreaks of rain over the highlands and the Western Isles, along with
02:01Shetland and Orkney too.
02:03But for most places, it is a day of sunny skies on Wednesday.
02:07And as I mentioned, a warmer day across the northeast, down for northern Ireland and further south temperatures, again, up
02:14over 30 degrees Celsius, 31, 32.
02:17They're not jumping up hugely, the temperatures across the south this week.
02:20We're likely to see them peak probably on Thursday and Friday.
02:23And all the while, the coast will be a little bit cooler, particularly where we see some sea breezes developing.
02:28The breeze, though, fairly light generally on Wednesday night and into Thursdays.
02:32The high pressure sits over, so not many isobars.
02:35Still a bit of a breeze and weather fronts just flirting with the far northwest.
02:39So the Hebrides, again, could be fairly cloudy with some outbreaks of rain.
02:43But under that area of high pressure, the air is getting squashed, allowing the temperatures to build day on day
02:49just by a degree or so.
02:51As I said, probably peaking Thursday or Friday, 33, 34, perhaps up to 35 degrees Celsius.
02:57We will again see some sea breezes developing by this stage.
03:01Temperatures across northern Ireland, southern Scotland, likely to get into the high 20s of Celsius.
03:07So, as I said, rising temperatures for many.
03:10The high pressure remains with us, just edging a little bit more out into the North Sea by the time
03:15we get to Friday.
03:15That will perhaps allow a little bit more of an easterly breeze, which could affect the temperatures on some eastern
03:20coast and perhaps means the southeast not quite as hot.
03:24So there's also increasing chance Thursday night and Friday of seeing one or two heavy thundery showers breaking out.
03:30As often we get when we see a few days of the heat building, there is the chance that that
03:35could spark some thundery downpours.
03:37We haven't got a lot of handle on those at the moment.
03:40Just a possibility at this stage as we head towards the end of the week.
03:43At the same time, another weather front could bring some more cloud and showery rain more generally in towards northern
03:49Ireland and western parts of Scotland.
03:51But again, across the south parts of South Wales, southwest England and the southeast, 33, 34, perhaps 35 degrees.
03:58Or again, with that breeze coming in from the east parts of the east coast may not be as hot
04:03on Friday.
04:04So it all depends really on the position of the high.
04:06Another air of high pressure likely to topple in as we head into the weekend.
04:10And that could bring some slightly less hot air.
04:13But generally, the heat continues.
04:15The heat this week won't be as oppressive as the last heat wave in June.
04:20The humidity isn't as high.
04:22So the night's perhaps not quite as uncomfortable as they were a few weeks ago.
04:27But still, this is a pretty unusual hot spell of weather.
