02 July - National morning forecast presented by Clare Nasir.
Transcript
00:00Hello there and a very good morning to you on this Thursday morning which is rather murky
00:04but damp in places, blustery showers in the north but it is going to brighten up.
00:09Now overnight you can see this cold front trailing down towards England and Wales with
00:13some rain on it.
00:15The most persistent rain is across the far north of Scotland, Shetland and Orkney and
00:19notice a real squeeze on the isobars, that's where we've seen strong winds overnight, even
00:23gales across the far north and northwest along the coastline.
00:26And these winds will be gusty through this morning, particularly across the highlands,
00:30the hills, Pennines and even for Northern Ireland there you could see some stronger gusts through
00:35the first part of the day.
00:37All of this is clearing and it will brighten up but certainly through the morning you can
00:41see where those showers are.
00:43That rain clears the far south and a ridge attempts to push in from the Republic of Ireland.
00:48We hang on to some brisk breezes and a few showers though across the far north and northwest of
00:53Scotland where we continue to see a feed of those showers through Friday.
00:58Elsewhere there is some fine weather coming through and this is the pattern of our weather
01:02through Friday and into the weekend with weather fronts extending from the Atlantic affecting
01:08Scotland, clipping Northern Ireland and occasionally pushing their way southwards.
01:12So all in all some wet weather to come particularly across the north and with that it could be a
01:18rocky in places as well.
01:20Now through this morning notice this clouds and patchy rain across England and Wales, a
01:25driving cool northwest wind across Scotland as well as Northern Ireland and strong winds
01:31with some persistent rain for Shetland.
01:34Through the morning then notice this is clearing towards the south and the clouds will break
01:39up through the first part of the morning.
01:41At the same time some heavy showers across central and northern areas of Scotland through the
01:45first part of the day but notice these become more scattered around lunchtime and the sun
01:50comes out across many areas.
01:52So some brighter skies, some warm sunshine in shelter feeling warm if not very warm in the
01:57south east through the afternoon.
01:59We hang on to more cloud across the far north of Scotland again these showers come and go
02:03but you can see there they will be fairly scattered towards the end of the day.
02:07At the same time a little more cloud may just drift across Northern Ireland later.
02:11There's a small chance of a shower here.
02:13For most though after a murky start across Irish sea coast the west country yes you'll see
02:17some brighter weather.
02:19Little clouds still just hovering though over the Irish sea through the afternoon.
02:23Now here are your temperatures.
02:25We'll likely see 19 or 20 across the central belt of Scotland.
02:29The mid teens towards the northwest exposed to that northwest wind.
02:3220 in shelter for Northern Ireland.
02:35And then 22 for mid Wales.
02:3623 across the eastern side of England.
02:39Further south towards the southeast.
02:41Yes, 26 degrees Celsius.
02:42And temperatures are only going to rise day on day as we head into the weekend.
02:47So some fine weather to end the day today.
02:49And also some lovely sunshine coming through.
02:53Still windy across the far north and northeast of Scotland overnight.
02:56And still gusty winds across the highlands there.
02:59A quieter breeze further south and southeast.
03:03So we could see some cloud just drifting across the sky.
03:07And those showers will continue just coming and going across western Scotland.
03:11The far north of Scotland as well.
03:12But more cloud as we enter the day on Friday.
03:16A bit fresher elsewhere though.
03:17Temperature is probably 10, 11, 12 degrees Celsius.
03:20So all in all a pleasant start to the day come Friday with some sunshine.
03:25Notice those showers from the word go across the west of Scotland.
03:29Exposed to that southwesterly wind.
03:32Through the day sunshine for many.
03:34But notice cloud thickens across western Scotland by around late morning into lunchtime.
03:40And this rain will extend across central and northern areas as we head through Friday afternoon.
03:45Elsewhere some sunshine.
03:47Temperatures probably a degree or so higher than today.
03:50So 22 for northern England and northern Ireland.
03:53And then we'll see a 25, 26 for the Midlands.
03:5622 down towards the west country.
03:5823 for southern parts of Wales.
04:00But 27 is likely across the home counties.
04:03So very warm here.
04:05And under the rain feeling fresher.
04:07Certainly temperatures struggling a little bit.
04:09But in shelter towards the east of Scotland yes you could see a 20.
04:13So that's the picture through Friday afternoon.
04:16Here's that rain which eventually will clear towards the north.
04:19But then it will return as we head into Saturday.
04:22A trailing front bringing yet more wet weather.
04:25And this one could single a bit further south into Saturday.
04:28So some showery bursts likely across the northern half of the UK through Saturday.
04:32As again it clears towards the east there.
04:35And then a ridge dampens down showery activity into Sunday.
04:39Sunday we'll see that rain return towards the far north and northwest of Scotland.
04:44But for most places it's going to be a fine day.
04:47And temperatures on the up.
04:48So 26, 27 to 29 across central and eastern areas.
04:5325 for northern England.
04:5522 again for northern Ireland.
04:56And temperatures will be higher across the west coast of Wales as well.
04:59With a change in wind direction 23 here.
05:02Now under the cloud temperatures will struggle.
05:05But the cloud will be more patchy with that rain across the central belt.
05:08So you will find some brighter weather coming through from time to time.
05:13So that's the picture through the next few days.
05:15Stay tuned to the forecast because we hang on to the heat.
05:18There will be heat wave conditions as we head into next week.
05:21And we'll keep you posted on all our social media channels.
05:24Have a lovely Thursday.
05:25Bye bye.
