00:00It's Thursday. It's 822. It's time for Mary Kay Cabin. She is on the Wiseheart Right. We Make It Right.
00:05Call Kyle Right Hotline. She is from the Cleveland Plain Dealer and Cleveland.com. Hello, Mary Kay.
00:12Hey, guys. How you doing?
00:13We're doing wonderful, Mary Kay. There was Taron Armstead.
00:17I keep wanting to call him Armstead.
00:19It's okay. I was calling Zion Williamson, Zion Richardson earlier in the show.
00:23There really is Zion Richardson. And then I called him Zion.
00:30Oh, Mary Kay is at the airport.
00:33Okay, Mary Kay, thank you very much for calling us while you're in transit.
00:39Can you tell that person behind you to pipe down?
00:41We're trying to conduct an interview here.
00:43Yeah, we're doing a responsible radio.
00:43For the love of God, tell them to shut up.
00:46They all know where they're going.
00:48All right.
00:49It was so quiet until right now.
00:50Let me ask you this, Mary Kay.
00:53Tarion Arnold has been arrested.
00:55He's been brought up on charges of kidnapping.
01:03We can't do it.
01:04I can't do it.
01:04We're doing a very serious story.
01:05We can't do it.
01:07Let them get through their spiel.
01:09Are you on the plane?
01:11I am on the plane.
01:13I thought I could do this, but now they're making these announcements.
01:15Oh, my gosh.
01:16There's a break in the action here.
01:18All right.
01:18She is on the plane.
01:19All right.
01:20So, all right, Mary Kay, I guess we've got to be quick now.
01:22Tarion Arnold might be Dunzo Cromunzo.
01:24So, is Denzel Ward a legitimate possibility for the Detroit Lions?
01:31You know, I don't think so.
01:32I do think that the Browns really want Denzel Ward to be part of this football team this year.
01:38He's one of the best leaders on the team.
01:39He's one of the best cornerbacks on this football team and in the league, and I'm not really feeling that.
01:45All right, Tone.
01:46Now, go ahead.
01:47We've got to go quick.
01:47Who knows when that plane is going to take off, and that's airplane mode.
01:50It's okay until the next announcement.
01:51We're okay for a little bit, I think.
01:53Sorry about this.
01:54No, you're fine.
01:54You don't have to apologize for a damn thing.
01:56Go ahead.
01:56All right.
01:57Obviously, we are sitting here waiting for this quarterback competition to rev up again.
02:05Mary Kay, you have been all over this.
02:07Has anything materially changed, or do you think when we get back to camp, it is going to be Deshaun
02:13Watson still front and center?
02:17I think when they get back to camp, I really do believe that it's going to be a robust competition
02:24between Deshaun and Shador, and I think that one of the interesting developments this week was the fact that Deshaun
02:31took it upon himself to come back into town.
02:33On his summer break, he brought his trainer, Billy, his physical therapist, Billy Voltaire, with him from Florida, and he
02:42also brought his quarterback coach, Quincy Avery, up here with him, and he was out there throwing to some guys,
02:49including Harold Fannin, which was another interesting development because Harold hasn't been practicing this offseason.
02:55He has been recovering from an injury, and we haven't seen him out there, so I thought it was very
03:02significant that Deshaun came back up here to throw, to train, and I think to show this football team and
03:09this coaching staff that he means business here.
03:12Well, as far as I know, Shador never left, so why am I giving him credit when Shador never left?
03:18I want Shador to start.
03:19Damn it, Mary Kay.
03:22Well, I don't know that Shador is here right now.
03:25I do think, and maybe he is, but I don't think he is.
03:29I think he might be back in Dallas right now.
03:31I'm not 100% certain, but I think this was a situation where mostly everybody is cleared out, and Deshaun
03:40just kind of came back to really show that he's committed to this thing and that he has no intentions
03:47of giving up the reins.
03:48You know, I think we've gotten a couple of things confused here.
03:50Not you, I'm talking about guys on the radio here, where it's like, Mary Kay Cabot joining us on the
03:55show.
03:56I think it is acceptable that Shador would start the season as the backup quarterback, but I don't think it's
04:03preferable.
04:03I don't think the best thing for Shador is to start for the rest of his career for 15 years
04:07and become a Hall of Famer.
04:09But I also think it is an acceptable thing with a new head coach and a new offense and everything
04:14that he got put behind last year that, hey, it makes sense to, if they had to start Deshaun Watson,
04:20start Deshaun Watson this season, knowing that probably Shador is going to have to come in at some point and
04:25some point sooner than later.
04:27It will be interesting to see how it does play out, because there is one dynamic here that I think
04:33is very unusual, and that is the fact that Deshaun will probably be more well-received on the road than
04:40he will be at home.
04:41There could be a bit of a hostile environment at home if he's starting and Shador is over there on
04:46the sidelines.
04:48So we'll have to see how that plays out, and I think we'll get a little bit of a taste
04:51of it in preseason, because I think both of those guys probably will play some in those home preseason games.
04:57But for Deshaun to start perhaps six of the first nine on the road, that could really work in his
05:03favor and might work in the Browns' favor at that point.
05:07And who knows? I mean, if it works out that way, maybe it would even be better for Shador to
05:12sort of hang back a little bit, get the lay of the land, see how things are going to work
05:16out, work out the kinks in the offense, and then come in at some point during the season.
05:21But I have no idea if it's going to work out that way. Shador could easily win this starting job.
05:28I don't want to say easily, but I mean, he is right in the thick of it. He has a
05:31bona fide chance to win the starting job.
05:34Do you think the offense changes depending on who wins the job, or do you think Todd Munkin is doing
05:40his best to make sure that he's got an offense that both of these quarterbacks can capitalize on?
05:47There will be changes. There will be nuances depending on who starts.
05:53Deshaun Watson obviously is more of a mobile quarterback. I think he would run more RPOs. I think he would
05:58call more designed runs.
06:00I think there would be just a different nuance to this offense. But Shador has demonstrated that he absolutely can
06:09run the keepers and the rollouts, the bootlegs and things like that.
06:14So I don't think it's going to have to be drastically different, but you will call a different game for
06:19both of those guys.
06:21Mary Kay, are you flying in first class or with the general populace?
06:26I wish I was in first class. No, I am with the general populace, as I always am, and I
06:32feel so bad about this. I just wasn't thinking about the announcements. I thought I could get onto the plane
06:37nice and early, and we can get through this.
06:40Perfectly fine. Okay, so when Ryan Grigson got hired originally, I'll never forget Lima baiting me into ripping Ryan Grigson
06:49because I think that he's the main reason why Andrew Luck retired early with the poor drafting and refusal to
06:55help across the offensive line.
06:57I'm an offensive line guy, obviously. But it didn't seem that he caused any bit of a problem at all
07:02his first stop here.
07:03He's back. What role does he help out with Andrew Barry now that he's back in the fold?
07:10I think everything. Coaching, personnel, you name it. Mostly personnel, of course, because he's a former general manager and a
07:17long, long time personnel exec.
07:20The thing to remember about Ryan Grigson is the fact that he's been associated with winning teams throughout his entire
07:25career.
07:26I think it's something like 21 out of 26 winning seasons that he's been associated with.
07:32So he knows what he's seeing. He knows what he's talking about. He's learned from his mistakes.
07:37He is a confidant and a friend to Andrew Barry. Those guys are thought partners. They get along really well.
07:43I think Ryan keeps things light. If you guys get a chance to know him a little bit, he's a
07:48really cool, fun guy to talk to.
07:50I did a feature story on him in 2020 where he talked about how he learned from all of those
07:55mistakes that he made in Indy where he had guys calling him out for just being difficult to work with
08:03and whatnot.
08:03And he learned from all of that. And I think he's imparted a lot of that wisdom onto Andrew Barry.
08:08What do you think of the brain trust as it stands now with some of the changes that have been
08:13made over the last few years?
08:15Obviously, we know Dee Podesta is gone, but Chris Polian, even getting the help of Telesco, I think, with the
08:21War Room.
08:22Do you think they've kind of reinvented themselves on the fly?
08:26They've also lost some, you know, personnel guys as well.
08:31Well, I think that Andrew Barry has surrounded himself with a lot of really bright, bright football minds.
08:38As you mentioned, Tom Telesco, Ryan Grigson, Chris Polian.
08:42Then, of course, he has his own assistant general managers in Catherine Hickman and Glenn Cook.
08:47So there are a lot of really – oh, and Jimmy Ray.
08:51So there are a lot of really, really smart guys in this building.
08:55And they really are – it takes a village, and they're putting their heads together
09:00and coming up with the best roster that they possibly can.
09:03And I think that you've seen this in the last two seasons, how it's actually played out
09:08and how they've had two amazing drafts.
09:11Mary Kay Cabot joining us here on the Wise Heart Right.
09:13We make a right called Kyle Wright Hotline.
09:15Does Parker Brailsford – he's a fifth-round pick.
09:17Does he really have a chance to start this season at center for the Cleveland Browns, like week one?
09:23Well, he does, and I think that the hope was that he would demonstrate he was ready
09:27for that kind of an assignment.
09:29But I do think coming out of a spring ball, I actually think that Elton Jenkins has the inside track
09:35to start at center right now.
09:36Now, if Parker's going to get that job, he's going to really have to show that he's ready for it.
09:41And some of it might depend on if they're starting Shador.
09:44Because would you want a starting center and your starting quarterback to be two rookies
09:50when you also have a rookie at left tackle?
09:52It might be a little too rookie-centric in that case.
09:55So I think there's a world in which they want to go more veteran there.
09:58You might have to have Elton Jenkins sliding the protections
10:01and doing those kinds of veteran types of things.
10:04So we'll see.
10:05But I know that they really like Parker Brailsford,
10:08and I wouldn't be surprised if he starts at some point this season.
10:12All right, Mary Kay, did the Browns dodge a bullet with the Soresby ruling the fact
10:18that there was no supplemental draft?
10:22I don't think so.
10:23I really don't think they dodged a bullet because I don't think that they were hot
10:28on the heels of Brennan Soresby to begin with.
10:30I really don't think that they would have bid on him.
10:33And if they had bid on him, I think it probably would have been a later round bid.
10:37So I don't think that they would have ended up landing him anyways.
10:40So I don't think this rocked their world at all, this latest development.
10:45All right, Mary Kay, I'm going to let you go here after this one.
10:49But let me ask you, how many people were at your wedding?
10:53Oh, it was big.
10:55And my anniversary is today, by the way.
10:57Well, congratulations to you and your husband.
11:00How many years has it been?
11:0233 years.
11:03Oh, my golly.
11:05What do you get for the 30-30 anniversary?
11:07This trip that they're on.
11:08Oh, yeah.
11:09Is that where you're going?
11:10Are you guys going on a trip?
11:11I don't know, but yeah, we're going on a trip.
11:13But we're two years away from a larger, more valuable diamond.
11:17So that's not coming this year.
11:20Let's keep it back.
11:22But the trip, the trip is, my husband's looking at me like, oh, we are?
11:28Oh, my gosh.
11:29But anyway, so yeah, I was kind of hoping that Travis and Taylor would get married today so
11:34that, you know, we would share this anniversary.
11:37But I think we had close to, how many people did we have at the wedding show?
11:41100 or 200?
11:41It was a lot.
11:42It was a big number.
11:44Oh, my God.
11:45Well, that's where I was going with it was the Travis and Taylor wedding.
11:48Mary, you got anything left for her?
11:49No, they're all inappropriate questions about the wedding now.
11:52Yeah, they are.
11:52Did you have a cookie table at the wedding?
11:54Or is that just a Youngstown thing?
11:57Did we have a what?
11:58Did you have a cookie table at the wedding?
12:01No, we did not have a cookie table.
12:03Did you play the...
12:04Your friend Michael Stanley was there, though, I told you.
12:06Did he perform?
12:07I don't remember you telling me he was at your wedding.
12:09He was at your wedding?
12:11Yes.
12:12No, he did not perform.
12:13But yes, he was there.
12:15I wish he would have performed.
12:16I should have asked him to.
12:18You should have asked him to perform, but he could only perform the chicken dance.
12:23Mary Kay, thank you so much for the time.
12:26Safe travels to you and your husband.
12:27Stay tuned for more announcements.
12:28We do love you.
12:31All right.
12:31Thanks, guys.
12:32Take care.
12:34You as well.
12:34Mary Kay Cabot on the Wise Heart Right.
12:36We Make It Right.
12:37Call Kyle Right Hotline.
12:38Oh, that was bizarre.
12:39That was awesome.
12:41There were 400 people at my wedding.
12:42Okay.
12:43That's amazing.
12:44At my wedding, there were like three because we were in a courthouse.
12:48I can't imagine a 400-person wedding.
12:51That is gigantic.
12:52And a lot of pressure on the speeches.
12:55But it wasn't a shotgun wedding, your wedding.
12:57That's the thing.
12:58Even though the pictures would look like it, it wasn't a shotgun wedding.
13:03Good for them.
13:04Good for Travis and Taylor getting married.
13:07I think it's tomorrow.
13:08They're doing it tomorrow.
13:09And it seems like the surprise has been spoiled.
13:13It is MSG.
13:14All the reporting that has been done.
13:16They're going to be confiscating phones.
13:19They have got it so that the canopies are restrictive.
13:22So there will be no photography.
13:24Nobody will be able to get a glimpse of all this.
13:26Kenny, I've been dialed in.
13:28I've been reading all the reports.
13:29You sell the exclusive rights to the wedding photos is what you do.
13:32That's the...
13:33And then are they going to Newport?
13:35She has a mansion just outside of Newport.
13:38And the question is, will they be boating everybody there?
13:43Because you can catch a boat, get over there.
13:47Will they be flying?
13:48Where will the after parties be?
13:50Kenny, the after parties.
13:51We know that there are personal friends of him are in the air that are flying out today.
13:55And they had to sign the NDAs, all of them.
13:57But let me tell you guys this.
13:58If you guys could tell this to him, he will appreciate it.
14:02Remember, if it's an open bar, I assume it is, tell him to pace himself.
14:06Because when it's an open bar, everyone wants to buy the groom a drink.
14:10I learned that the hard way my wedding night.
14:13Yeah.
14:14I can't even imagine.
14:15People are saying, Mary Kay, legend for taking the call on the plane.
14:18It was absolutely wonderful.
14:19It was wonderful.
