00:00Rick and Morty 2023 issue 10. It starts out two years before Noelle met Morty and a flashback
00:08implies that she was raised by her uncle since she was a baby because their parents aren't there
00:13so she can't just go live with them instead. Because otherwise what was the point of showing
00:19her with just her uncle? She explains in a long-winded way that for her entire life she
00:25wanted to be annoying. It doesn't explain why so at first I thought that was ridiculous and came
00:30out of nowhere for how we've seen her character to be like. Then we see her watching movies with
00:36her uncle which made me think that she only wanted to be annoying to spite him. He talks too much
00:41when
00:41people are trying to hear the movie behind him and to get him more mad at the guy calling him
00:45out
00:46she says something he'd know was a lie because the one right behind him didn't say that and he was
00:52right behind him. I guess he's only pretending to believe it so he could brag and finally explain
00:58why he's wearing a hat that most people don't wear all the time anymore. It was given to him by
01:04so
01:04many respects and protects him from the sun. After some more wasted time it goes back to the present
01:11where her uncle walks by just to come back and comment on her being sad because he's concerned.
01:17So apparently this is either rare for him or she had no reason to be more pessimistic than Morty
01:22because he does act like this. There's no way to know if he does this as much as Rick but
01:29he does
01:30it enough that she's not confused about it. I didn't think he cared about her at all. Well it adds
01:37depth
01:37to his character but also means there's even less to distinguish him from Rick. How did he know she
01:43looked sad without seeing her face? He didn't even look in her direction to see her bed. The story spends
01:50some
01:51time having her explain that she still misses Morty so it won't come out of nowhere if it comes up
01:55again and she wastes time recapping why she broke up with him. How does he think math problems are
02:01going to kill him someday when usually he doesn't act like he's that delusional and he's good at math?
02:06And then he goes off on a tangent about what he said and somehow thinks that'll make her feel better
02:11when he did the opposite of relate to her. He at least calls her sweetie and somehow thinks she'll
02:15want to participate in a prayer when he's known her her whole life. There's a bunch of padding after
02:21this. It was a little cathartic to see Rick tell his grandkids to stop yelling at each other because
02:26Summer was being annoying and Morty was distracting him too. It turns out Rick's got his whole family in
02:32the spaceship heading to the great planet because I guess he wants them near him that much and doesn't
02:38want to expend the portal fluid to visit them every day. Which means Beth's going to ask him to use
02:43a portal fluid on getting her to work and back every day. Rick says their old reality failed
02:49him so he's going to the great planet to become a god even though in the show he calls himself
02:54that
02:54already. Plus he's the god of the microverse that he created. So now I have to assume he was so
03:03humiliated by the fact they needed to be saved from Jerry that he no longer thinks of himself as
03:08one despite still having the traits that he thought made him qualify. He's still an immortal who can
03:14make a universe and do whatever he wants and is worshipped as a god in the microverse. He should
03:21have brought that up when Thinkgiver told him that he didn't get worshipped. Too bad the writer of that
03:28issue apparently didn't know about that episode. It's not like it takes forever to watch all of the
03:35episodes of the show before writing the comic. His needing to be saved had nothing to do with
03:41the specific universe he was in so he's being irrational. So he wastes a bunch of time blathering
03:47before explaining that the Big Bang made some nervous system celestials with planets for brains
03:52and 50s haircuts. This would only be possible if magic existed in his universe and it does exist in
03:59two of them. So why not? He talks metaphorically which is thankfully explained to be just a joke
04:06and I'm glad it was called out as not funny. One of those magical amoebas had earth in his brain
04:11and
04:11left and created earth in front of his brother who invented a magical motorcycle to figure himself out
04:16and crashed into nothingness even though it wouldn't be nothing if he crashed into it. It'd be a
04:21magically generated invisible wall. Eventually Sparky ended up having the planet resemble earth because
04:27all I knew was his brother. Since it was called he and brother before it's stupid that he's referred
04:33to as they for no reason. It made me look back at the panel with him and his brother to
04:39see if it
04:39was referring to multiple people at once. This is all weird even for Rick and Morty and that means it's
04:46at a level of creativity that I really respect where I'm wondering how the writer was that creative and
04:53had the guts to feel like it was going to be received well. I wish Sonic comics nowadays had this
05:00level of
05:00creativity. But I still forgot to explain that the space amoebas were supernatural beings who were
05:07created because of the magic around them so that's why they existed and could survive without any air.
05:14So we just have to assume magic's involved and we would have done that anyways to explain this planet.
05:21It would have been better to outright confirm that magic's a part of this planet but keep the
05:26complicated backstory because it took a lot more effort to come up with. Rick says it still doesn't
05:32know who it is so it's malleable and inspired only by the influence of people from earth. First he called
05:38it he and now he's calling it it. Beth says she could make it become a horse farm and she
05:46could do surgery
05:46on the horses when they get stabbed. Wow that happened to them. Morty wants an arcade and Summer
05:53wants a Greek matriarchy which gives them some more personality. After some padding he says he wants to
06:00be the one who's got sole influence over the planet and bores me and I get to see him called
06:06out on it by
06:07Morty. It wastes my time some more intentionally making it uncomfortable how he's yelling at him at one
06:13point but it was surprisingly sweet of him to say sorry for yelling. It's especially sweet because
06:20in the show he said that the day he says sorry is the day he actually feels guilty. It turns
06:28out Rick's
06:29enemies are both on their way to the planet at the same time. Somehow Vronsky got made able to make
06:35audible emojis by just talking. So apparently he was given that ability by Thinkgiver when he got
06:41resurrected. And somehow he thinks Jerry's Rick. And it wastes time boring me with Thinkgiver thinking
06:49back to stuff we already know in a way we already knew until he explains that he taught humanity in
06:55general how to think. So he's just arrogant enough to be delusional because humans would have developed
07:03the ability to think anyways because of the evolution of their brains and even gorillas can still think.
07:10The story had such an interesting premise I was really looking forward to and it's got so much
07:16padding instead of just starting the plot progression already. It's explained in greater detail this time
07:22why he didn't respect any of the humans for good reason which is why he decided to leave the earth.
07:28Why does he think he could influence the gray planet despite not being from earth? I thought it was
07:34only easily influenced because it wanted to be like earth. Instead it's literally just the same planet
07:39from Sonic the comic that got formed to make whatever the people in there wanted. So the fact that I'm
07:46seeing it twice makes me wonder if it's actually a cliche and that's why it was come up with. Good
07:51thing
07:52is such an interesting idea that I'm fine with seeing it again. I wonder if this was a doctor
07:57who reference because Sonic the comic is a UK comic. He and Rick spot each other so eventually the
08:05spaceships get made to go faster and crash and I have to assume that there's just barely enough
08:10magical anti-g-force force field in the spaceships to prevent the crash from killing everyone there
08:15by smacking them into something because it limits how much it'll affect them or the people who made the
08:21spaceships have magical witch-created artifacts in them that make it impossible for people to get
08:29hurt when it crashes. So eventually Rick gets threatened with something sharp by Noelle's uncle
08:35who had such a little personality that I forgot his name for a few seconds. The whole premise has
08:41reminded me of the last comic where Rick tried to roll planet with someone else with the same idea on
08:45it and he went from letting him own half of it to warring with him. So I'm just expecting more
08:50of the
08:50saying. After some more boredom eventually Rick uses a magnet beam and reunites Morty and Noelle and
08:57a bunch of time is wasted until they stop fighting because they find out Thinkgiver's ship is showing
09:03up. He wastes some more time narrating what I already know and while he's doing that I find out he's
09:09put
09:09himself in a mecha that looks intimidating. So I'm impressed with him for figuring out how to look
09:14intimidating again. It looks kind of like a swap bond. Where did he get all this technology?
09:21Oh I guess Vronsky made it for him out of the literally no materials at all he had to himself
09:26anymore because he lost his corporation. I guess I bought the materials for him. As I waste my time
09:32stating the obvious, Rick and Golden Fold immediately put their hands together to enthusiastically make a
09:38truth right after Rick got injured by him. So that's sweet of them. It's mainly smart of them but they
09:45usually aren't practical enough to put practicality over their anger and their ego. Thinkgiver makes an
09:54army to go after them and the story ends with almost no plot progression at all. This issue by Alex
10:00Fierer was mostly about wasting my time with boring or annoying dialogue until Rick and his family and
10:07enemies got to the planet they wanted to influence and then because Rick was too distracted arguing,
10:14Thinkgiver made an army. I wish most of the padding was cut out of the story to make room for
10:18stuff
10:19happening a lot more because I was bored on my mind by a story it's premise I was excited for.
10:25Even though it's probably been inspired by a story that already did this. And there was also an episode of
10:30Rick and Morty where Rick made a world and civilization to himself already and we already saw what he
10:38wanted out of civilization because of that. Where he exiled the idiots from the civilization. When you
10:47think he would be smart enough to make it so that the idiots never got created at all. When you
10:53think
10:53he'd be smart enough to have invented a cure for stupidity so that Jerry wouldn't have anybody around
10:58but I guess he was too lazy to do that. That's not really making his ideal world thin.
