00:00Rick and Morty 2020 Comic Issue 8
00:04After worthless padding I have no reason to care about, where for no reason think they were still being used
00:10in the comic when he has no creative potential left, somehow Morty looks normal again.
00:15Why would Rick have made the ghost gel on him that temporary?
00:20It would have worn off in his plan to save her.
00:24And why wasn't she ever questioning why he looked like that?
00:27He would have instantly explained to her that he looked like a ghost because it was part of a plan
00:32to save her, so she wouldn't still be mad.
00:36Somehow it takes forever of boredom to get to the point where Noelle makes a ridiculous accusation of Morty on
00:42top of what I have to assume are floating ice platforms she created with clouds hiding them.
00:49Morty explains to her that he didn't know Rick was going to rip her away from him.
00:53No duh.
00:55It was so obvious with his reaction to that.
00:59He says he's sorry he didn't master interdimensional travel.
01:02No one should have to apologize for that.
01:05She's not being fair and there's no reason she wouldn't believe him instantly.
01:10Then she's smart enough to wonder if this is just a dumb crush.
01:15I say smart because they're teenagers.
01:19Teenage relationships don't tend to last.
01:21But she's stupid enough to wonder if they even work when it was always obvious they do because they're in
01:26the same position in life and seem to have the same personality.
01:29So they seem to be soulmates.
01:31She complains that because of that maybe they don't heal each other.
01:36Just compound it.
01:37But they're always smiling when complaining about the weirdness of their lives.
01:41So she's wrong.
01:42While Noelle has a reason to say that they compound each other's pain.
01:47As in I can imagine that happening when they talk about how awful and stressful their own lives are and
01:56they just haven't done it yet.
01:57The only alternative for them is dating a normal person and endangering them because of a mad scientist.
02:04Or at least not having that normal person relate to them.
02:09Or constantly that person is questioning why they keep putting up with all that danger and maybe nagging them to
02:16stop getting in danger.
02:17There won't be any compounding if they don't go on each other's adventures.
02:22Morty says he would move the universe for her and loves her.
02:25He asks her if she's going to dump him and fortunately she says of course not out of nowhere and
02:31that she missed him.
02:32She admits that she's bad at people too.
02:35Not just suspicious because this is working out.
02:38With a writer who can't be trusted not to make embarrassingly forced writing decisions for the sake of drama at
02:43the drop of a hat.
02:44With a normal writer I'd instantly be thankful.
02:48Not instantly assuming that this is a hope spot because he hates his fans.
02:52Not to mention because she went from looking like she wasn't going to forgive him and was just mad.
02:58To being like this out of nowhere.
03:00She has the self-awareness to admit that she's bad at stuff other than adventures.
03:05I'd like to see what she means by that.
03:08Because it's a good Fletcher character out.
03:10At least things working out between them means that I got what I came to the issue for.
03:15I don't know why the next scene is wasting my time with a boring dialogue of the bad guys again.
03:20Who have nothing to gain from attacking buildings.
03:24It doesn't add to the narrative because there's already tension with people wanting to hurt Rick.
03:29And that's only assuming you don't want Rick to be in pain.
03:31And no one would want to see innocent people's buildings get smashed in this story either.
03:36Summer shows the name Lucia's for no reason would neither know the name.
03:40And she lampshades her and Beth being outside when it's dangerous.
03:44Beth somehow thinks she could be useful here even though she's not a surgeon for people.
03:48It's a miracle that she finds a centaur god to help.
03:52And Summer's got a good point that after the way the other mortals attack,
03:55why should they trust him not to kill her?
03:57Somehow I doubt there's an oath called that.
04:00And if she really cares about this thing, she wouldn't waste all of this time.
04:05Sadly, Beth can't even be competent here, apparently,
04:08because she sees a city so she doesn't know what to do.
04:11It's really confusing that Rick references the Bird Person comic.
04:15Because this comic book goes off the canon of the show,
04:18which went out of its way to retcon the Bird Person comic.
04:23So it looks like, thankfully, this comic goes off an alternate canon
04:27where either that episode of Season 5 is different or the Bird Person from the show is not the one
04:32he originally met.
04:34Apparently, this is in the same dimension as that Bird Person comic.
04:39This has to be a completely different multiverse, too, because we saw Diane earlier.
04:44Instead of the plot progressing, a bunch of time is wasted on them talking.
04:48The Vulture Person talks in an especially boring way.
04:52He must not be aware of Operation Phoenix,
04:54because if he was, he'd know he's got no chance of eating his soul.
04:59He wants to send the gods back to Anti-Hala.
05:03I know he collects souls, but why?
05:07There's some gods based off the Ninja Turtles who get stepped on.
05:11Thankfully, the gore isn't red, so it's not too gross.
05:15If they're going to do this, they should at least explain a part of the Turtles franchise
05:21that they don't like to explain why they're doing this.
05:25Thinkgiver tells Jerry to absorb their power and add them to his.
05:30By an insane coincidence, they end up seeing Glug on a conveyor belt
05:35heading for a killing machine somehow.
05:38It's about time the Thinkgiver meet the complete collection of human knowledge.
05:42He wants to absorb him.
05:45The algorithm hits the speed button on the conveyor belt,
05:48and eventually is absorbed.
05:50That could have been done in the same panel where he wanted to absorb him.
05:55His dialogue's so boring, the pacing should be a lot faster than this.
05:59Glug did get what he deserved, but sadly the plan is to resurrect him
06:03because the writer's an idiot who doesn't even want to stop using a character,
06:06even one that I can't imagine anyone liked.
06:10Finally, the comic gets back to the good part of Noelle fighting monsters.
06:14And I'm just confused because Morty's a baseball bat now
06:18when there's no indication that she had the ability to turn him into that.
06:22But of course it makes sense that Rick would give him a cybernetic to shapeshift into that at will.
06:27It's nice of Noelle to ask Morty if he's okay with being smacked in his stuff.
06:32I have to assume that he lacks the ability to feel pain because he is.
06:37So it has to be that he's screaming because he's scared.
06:40It doesn't even show the impact in the fight, what's the point of it then?
06:45Noelle thanks him and the writer throws out logic because Morty can feel pain without pain receptors
06:52when it wouldn't benefit Rick or her to make him still have those when he can't do anything.
06:58Why is Noelle not hitting Thankgiver while he's talking?
07:02Jerry uses absorption to give him even more power.
07:06So? Morty ends up being a ball and chain.
07:11So did Noelle turn him into that?
07:13Why does he return to normal?
07:15Why would Jerry trying to absorb his power do that?
07:20Jerry recognizes Morty, Noelle and Morty stop looking like they're being absorbed
07:24and Noelle's finally back to her normal design.
07:27And it gets from the caption that they're being sent to the afterlife.
07:31Not like it matters because Rick's new hat revealed Rick can get you out of there.
07:35It's just another set of universes.
07:37Which makes me wonder why he can't just use the portal gun to get there instead of having to die.
07:44So I just have to assume there's a magic spell that makes that possible.
07:48Thankgiver brags that no one can stop him and gets told to look at someone with binoculars eyes
07:53and sees Rick as the story ends.
07:57If only they got rid of the padding they could have had time for showing us their fight in this
08:02issue.
08:03This issue is about Noelle and Morty reconciling and her using him as a weapon with no explanation for how.
08:10But that's completely wasted because we don't see the impact any time she hits one of the gods attacking the
08:16city.
08:17And Rick and Vultureperson team up because the latter wants to collect literally any souls from an afterlife.
08:25The rest of the story is just wasted as none of it matters.
08:29There's no impact shown in the fight when I want it to happen the most.
08:34So there's no catharsis there.
08:36It doesn't feel all that creative because it's just about using characters we already saw in a setting we've already
08:43seen a bunch of times.
08:45And them wanting to take over the world would also be a generic motivation that's so high stakes it's got
08:51no stakes because you know they won't succeed.
08:54Along with wanting to kill Rick.
08:57That's why you make the journey interesting.
09:00But they didn't.
09:02The reason I took so long to talk about this issue is because when I got to this issue I
09:09ran out of issues I could find for free.
09:12They're pretty cheap though so I'll be able to buy them no problem.
09:15It just killed my motivation for a while.
09:18I ran out of issues I could find for free and I knew this would be a pretty short review
09:24if I just reviewed this one.
09:27But eventually I found out that YouTube doesn't push your channel as hard if you don't release videos more frequently.
09:34And so you benefit from releasing a bunch of short videos instead of combining short videos into one.
09:41So it's fine if this is its own video.
