00:00Sonic Prime, Dome Sweet Dome.
00:03After a waste of time where we hear the dialogue at the end of the last episode again,
00:08not seeing the animation of it,
00:10Sonic plans on rejoining the fight,
00:13and for some reason he runs from some robots instead of jumping in place
00:18so they could fly into his spin jump and be destroyed.
00:22So instead he gets made to smack around as he panics like a wuss.
00:26He sounded cool by calling it a hunk of junk while taking it seriously,
00:31but it's pathetic that he's afraid of what's just another one of the many small robots he used to destroy,
00:37except they actually look threatening instead of ridiculous.
00:41The silly looking way that badniks look is supposed to be made up for
00:46because of how competent Eggman is,
00:48because he managed to put a huge amount of animals in robots.
00:52because nobody in the show gets as many victories as Eggman in the games did,
00:58so I guess it's forgivable that they have to compensate
01:00for how pathetic the villains are by making the robots look scary.
01:06He actually gets the good sense to realize he should get some backup to fight Nine
01:10to have a better chance of winning.
01:12He says it's terrible that everything's collapsing,
01:15not that it showed it that well.
01:16Nine points out that it seems hypocritical of him to act like he cares about another world than his own,
01:23and says that the council started the destruction of this place,
01:26so it's not really his fault,
01:28even though he's continuing the destruction of that place clearly.
01:32It would only make sense that he says the first thing
01:35if he's still under the impression that fixing his own world would destroy all of the other worlds.
01:42He's still under the impression that Sonic never believed for a second
01:46that Nine would survive him fixing the Shatterverse,
01:51and so that's why it's hypocritical of him to act like he cares about another world.
01:56Sonic catches the falling civilian and sets someone down,
02:00and the floor he's on turns around,
02:02and he runs away as some stuff falls behind him as some exciting music plays.
02:07He's told that if he helps Nine, all of this will stop,
02:10and he saves some people.
02:13Telling him what he wants to hear wouldn't work as a long-term solution,
02:17because if he said he'd join him,
02:19there's no way he alone could get him to restore his world,
02:22so he needs to build up an army first.
02:25It could have given the story more emotional impact and nuance
02:28if it had Nine point out that all of those people bullied him,
02:32and showed the times they did.
02:34Maybe I could take this seriously if he wasn't a kid,
02:37because yeah, the fact that he's a kid
02:38means it makes it even more sense that he's emotional enough
02:40to lash out so much and do nothing but stuff that feels good at the time,
02:44when really it could have avoided having to go through all of this
02:46if he just told Sonic he'd restore his world in the first place,
02:50but then made a similar copy in its place to fool him.
02:53If he really wanted Sonic to go back to his side,
02:56how is he stupid enough to not say he'll give him what he wants a lot earlier?
03:01Eventually, after a bunch of padding,
03:04that at one point is Sonic given an I told you so.
03:08Man, this is such a boring scene.
03:11The music's doing all of the heavy lifting here.
03:13There's really nothing intimidating about Nine's head.
03:16At least he doesn't sound antagonistic with him and just sad
03:19instead of being obnoxiously evil.
03:22Like he sees how sad it is that Sonic's against him
03:24and wishes it would stop,
03:26but he's barely feeling like that
03:27because he's still spending the whole story
03:29lashing out at him out of spite anyway.
03:31The council explains that they barely have enough resources
03:34to protect themselves.
03:36Real threatening.
03:38So they actually can't protect the people here.
03:40That's surprisingly good writing.
03:42It'd also be good writing to regularly show them
03:45actually doing something wrong to the civilians
03:47instead of never doing that,
03:50so they might as well not even be tyrants.
03:52Why do I just have to assume the reason Rusty's the only Robian
03:56is because he takes that much more energy to roboticize in this world
04:00because the technology is such a prototype?
04:04There's a bunch of time wasted with Sonic running from robots
04:07until he fights them generically at the last minute
04:10and goes back to running.
04:14Nine tells the robots where Sonic's going
04:16because he's smart enough to assume it accurately.
04:19Why is Sonic panting from running?
04:21He never does that
04:22and we already knew the story was serious.
04:25And it's not going to make us buy
04:27that he's going to get killed or hurt anymore.
04:30Eventually, the old Eggman gets his counselors to fight Nines.
04:33And the music's underwhelming.
04:36Sonic really shouldn't be surprised at this
04:38after all the times Eggman himself did a truce with him.
04:41They'd have to be idiots not to take advantage of him here.
04:44They bicker, so it's cathartic when Sonic tells them to speed this up.
04:48It did look cool to see a counselor throw shurikens at a robot to defeat it.
04:53It rips off Espio, but it's doing it for a different character.
04:57It's never explained why any version of Eggman would even be interested in shurikens, however.
05:05Why did they ever have the baby of dialogue and serious scenes?
05:09The force field around the Grimm malfunctions.
05:12Not like I was told why I should care right now.
05:15Sonic reluctantly tells the rebels in the jungle people
05:18that he had to partner up with the council
05:20without explaining why he needed to in the same sentence.
05:23It's a relief that he didn't have to fight with them because of this.
05:27He really should have known better
05:28because he can't be trusted not to hurt him.
05:32Anyway, eventually Manji does something with the energy extractor
05:35and efficiency increases.
05:37So, he's not able to talk,
05:39but he's still genius,
05:41even though it makes no sense that he can do this
05:43because he's had no exposure to tech.
05:46And if he's really a feral child,
05:48he doesn't have the brain structure to even learn how to read.
05:51So, we wouldn't have any way of knowing how to do this.
05:56It has to be that Tails' tech prowess in Sonic Prime
05:59is a magical ability
06:00because he innately knows how to do it right from birth.
06:04But that means there's nothing to be proud of with it
06:07because he didn't earn it.
06:09A bunch of time gets wasted after this with dramatic music.
06:13Eventually, Sonic runs in place again
06:15and builds up energy for the city.
06:16It's cringy to see the story failing to portray 9 as scary
06:21without looking any different.
06:23It's not like he's wearing a black mask
06:25that covers everything but his eyes.
06:27He could have started wearing it after getting hurt.
06:30It takes a long time
06:31until the force field gets turned on
06:33to protect the castle.
06:35Manji and the Jungle Knuckles
06:37help bring Sonic back into it
06:39because he's tired for no reason.
06:42It's not like he got exhausted
06:44after beating the boss fight in Sonic CD
06:45where he had to run on a conveyor belt.
06:48It's fantastic that the show
06:49was trying as hard as it was
06:50to be taken seriously.
06:52That's what Sonic's supposed to do.
06:55But I still can't be that invested
06:57when there's no reason to care.
07:01It's not like it's constantly
07:02killing off characters.
07:04This episode by Patricia Valetto
07:07spent the whole time with Sonic
07:09running away from robots
07:10he occasionally fought with
07:12where almost nothing creative happens.
07:15Nothing that matters to the plot.
07:17And no real accomplishment of 9.
07:20And it ends with him generating power
07:22to the council's house
07:23to make a force field
07:24to protect them and all of his friends
07:26from 9.
07:27Who the story constantly makes a mistake
07:29of actually showing in the plot.
07:31which only clashes with a serious tone
07:34it's otherwise got as its biggest appeal.
07:36It was a little boring
07:37and offered nothing to the series.
07:40But at least it tried almost as hard
07:42as it could to be exciting and serious.
07:44It didn't try nearly hard enough
07:46to damage the city.
07:48So I didn't really feel like
07:49it was getting the destruction
07:50it was depicted as getting.
07:52I'm never told that it inconvenienced anyone
07:54in any way that's varied and interesting.
07:57I guess I don't want to see that happen to them
08:00but they really should have
08:02brought it all the way back
08:03to the beginning
08:04by having him say that
08:06these are very specific people
08:07who bullied him in the past.
08:10I know anybody who really thinks
08:12about 9 as a character
08:13could figure out his excuses
08:15for his behavior
08:16but it would have better emotional impact
08:19if they actually explained
08:21his behavior
08:22by relating it to his backstory.
08:24I'm sorry.
