00:00You know, being sealed in plastic like that, don't be expecting much in the way of shape-shifting.
00:04Here's your look at McFarlane Toys, DC Direct, Page Punchers, Justice League of America, Martian Manhunter.
00:22Martian Manhunter is thought to be as strong or even possibly stronger than Superman,
00:25and has a variety of powers including super strength, super speed, flight telepathy, telekinesis, shape-shifting, phase-shifting, regenerative abilities,
00:34and near-in-vulnerability.
00:36Manhunter also has genius-level intellect and strong leadership skills.
00:39Using his vast powers and skills, Martian Manhunter strives to protect the citizens of his new home, Earth.
00:46John Johns arrived just in time.
00:47If I was looking to finish the League before the line was finished,
00:50John Johns or Martian Manhunter definitely would have been a figure I wanted to add to that.
00:54Before, though, we get a closer look at the DC Direct, Page Punchers, Martian Manhunter,
00:58I don't even know why he has to be part of the Page Punchers or DC Direct for that matter.
01:02Let's still, though, take the tape measure and see how tall the figure's going to stand.
01:05I grabbed this on the Facebook Marketplace from Popeye the Toyman.
01:09Yeah, yeah, Popeye the Toyman.
01:10Boop, boop, boop, boop, boop, boop!
01:12Thanks to him, we'll be one step closer actually finishing up my League lineup.
01:16As for how tall John Johns is going to be, he's about six and three quarters of an inch.
01:20Gosh, that's going to work out roughly out to a figure that's 16 and a half centimeters tall.
01:25I think I can thank the 80s Kenner Superpowers line and Shell Gas Station as a kid
01:29for wanting to have these two characters displayed on my shelf together.
01:32This, of course, being the Red Tornado.
01:34Does anybody remember this?
01:35Maybe it was only in Canada.
01:36Shell Gas, at the time of filling up with your gas, you'd also get premiums.
01:40You could get glasses, you could get, like, golden cassette tapes.
01:43Not golden tapes, but they were the golden classics on tape.
01:47But for the kids, they also offered up premiums of go-bots and superpowers.
01:51And it was through that and Shell that I got a Martian Manhunter, a Firestorm, and a Red Tornado.
01:57Sure, yeah, we did get also another Martian Manhunter.
01:59But for me, really wanting to have larger, more articulated superpowers figures,
02:04this one here just isn't going to cut it.
02:06Now, granted, though, these figures that I'm bringing in right now aren't really going to cut it,
02:10but they're the stand-ins right now.
02:11I think I'm still going to end up using the larger action comics Superman as my go-to.
02:15Was it the Silver Age Superman?
02:17This was the classics, I think, Superman.
02:19But not really the Supes that I really want to have display, nor really is this going to be the
02:22Batman.
02:23There's no denying at all I'm going to want to have this Hal Jordan.
02:26And we also, it's been announced, and I think she's now already starting to show up in online sites and
02:31in stores,
02:32there's going to be the Vault reissue of Wonder Woman.
02:34I can't wait to get my hands on that one.
02:36In the meantime, though, I'm going to bring in the Silver Age.
02:38But I know that that's not the one I'm going to permanently have on display.
02:41I don't know what likelihood there would be that you'd have Mars and Manhunter displayed with the following three things.
02:46I think, if anything, you probably would boycott the two on either side.
02:49And, if anything, have the figure displayed with its display stand.
02:52The stand, unfortunately, though, does have a scratch through it.
02:55I don't think it was me that did that.
02:57There's a DC logo down below.
02:58I can tell you I didn't do that.
02:59And in walking distance from that, I also didn't do this,
03:02there's a peg that can plug into either one of Jones' boots.
03:06Put that off to the side.
03:07The figure does also come in clue with a trading card.
03:09The trading card's okay.
03:10I probably could have...
03:11I'm no expert when it comes to picking up artwork,
03:14but I think I probably could have chosen something a little bit better for a Martian Manhunter
03:17than the card image that we used right here.
03:20Because this is also a page puncher,
03:22they seem to rely more on red font than white.
03:24That also carries over here on the back of the card as well.
03:27What really does make it a page puncher,
03:29other than just the fact it does come in clue with a mini-comic?
03:31Maybe that's just the only thing,
03:33the only reason why this guy's been dedicated as a page puncher
03:36and not just as a DC multiverse.
03:38Unfortunately, though, because it does have also the comic
03:41and it has the trading card and it has the display stand,
03:43which is over there,
03:44it means, unfortunately, though,
03:45that Martian Manhunter doesn't have any other accessories
03:48to come pack with him.
03:50I still appreciate, though, the fact that they include a mini-comic.
03:52It's not even really a mini-comic.
03:54It's a full-size comic.
03:55It's Justice League America, number 77.
03:58It's done by Dan Juergens,
04:00who's also responsible for the death of Superman.
04:02It's also got Rick Burchett as well.
04:04One thing that's also cool about the comic
04:06is that it does also have Aztec in there as well,
04:09which at the time that Page Puncher's Martian Manhunter came out,
04:12there's also a DC multiverse Aztec,
04:14which I'd like to get my hands on at some point,
04:17just to quickly flip through the page.
04:18The artwork's okay.
04:19You know, it's that kind of artwork
04:21if you're having a Sunday afternoon
04:22where you have nothing else really to do.
04:23I mean, as an adult and a father,
04:26there's very few times
04:28that you actually have a little bit of available time
04:29on your hands.
04:30But if I did, and I had,
04:32I probably would flip through this comic
04:34with a tall glass of lemonade.
04:36That would be really nice.
04:37But we're, of course,
04:38not going to spend a whole lot of time
04:39reading through the comic.
04:40There's some advertisements also on the back,
04:42just to tell you, though,
04:43that this is the original issue.
04:45And there's also DC Finest
04:47on the other side there as well.
04:48I'm going to move the comic out of the way.
04:49Let's get now a closer look at Martian Manhunter.
04:51Now, one issue I kind of have really with the figure
04:54is I like first that they gave him a fabric cape.
04:57Because again, like if we look at
04:59like the original Martian Manhunter,
05:00he did rely on plastic capes.
05:02Some people like plastic capes.
05:04Why am I slapping the cape?
05:06Some people like plastic capes.
05:07I now prefer fabric capes
05:09because again,
05:10there's a little bit more flow to it.
05:12Unfortunately, though,
05:13there's no wire that's in the frame,
05:15in the seams of the cape on the sides,
05:17nor in his color either.
05:19One of the notable traits of Martian Manhunter
05:21was the fact he always had
05:22kind of a folded down collar.
05:24With this figure not having now
05:25a wire sewn into the side,
05:27like there's a seam here
05:29and there seems almost like a hole.
05:31Like maybe they had planned at one point
05:32to put a wire in it.
05:34Without having one, though,
05:35you can't quite pull off
05:36his trademark popped collar.
05:38It's not even really a popped collar.
05:39Kind of has it folded down like this.
05:42On one side,
05:42we can kind of do a thing going on
05:44on the other side here.
05:45That's ideally the way
05:46I would really would have wanted to have it.
05:48Unfortunately, though,
05:49without having a wire sewn in,
05:51it's just left freely
05:52to do whatever it wants to do.
05:54And why I draw your attention to that
05:56and why I bring now in Red Tornado,
05:58Red Tornado did not have a wire sewn at all
06:02on the sides of his cape.
06:04Yet, though,
06:05he had a wire that was sewn in here.
06:07So you could technically have folded this down
06:10and given him the trademark
06:12Martian Manhunter collar.
06:14Why, though?
06:15I mean, again, like I know this one,
06:16this one wasn't a page puncher.
06:18This was a DC Multiverse figure.
06:19But why, though,
06:20is Red Tornado gifted at least a frame?
06:23And yet someone who I would think
06:24has a little bit more credit,
06:27like a Martian Manhunter,
06:28why would he not have gotten one?
06:30Again, like I'm sure
06:31I could probably maybe heat this up,
06:34maybe press it with an iron,
06:35see if I can maybe flatten out the top here,
06:37just to add a crease.
06:38Because I think if I can give it a crease,
06:39I can have the collar folded down.
06:41I mean, you could have it up this way,
06:42but I don't think that really works all that well.
06:45Does that face work all that well?
06:47It does for the most part.
06:48I think one thing it really does need
06:50a little bit more, though,
06:51is just some darkness around the eyes.
06:52With using like this lighter lemon jello,
06:55lemon jello,
06:56like a lime jello color,
06:58it's too bright.
06:59And I feel like with the eyes
07:01also being bright like that,
07:02they seem like they get more lost.
07:04And again, I draw back the attention here
07:06of Red Tornado.
07:08See how Red Tornado had more kind of
07:09shadowing done around his eyes,
07:11is that even though his eyes were smaller,
07:13they still though managed to pop.
07:15I feel like that's one thing, again,
07:16like Martian Manhunter doesn't really have.
07:18Had they maybe just gone in there,
07:20I know it's a budget of paint,
07:21but to go in there and paint that
07:23just a little bit more around his eyes,
07:24I'm almost even really tempted to take a marker.
07:27I know I'm going to totally just ruin the figure.
07:29Maybe I'll just leave it alone.
07:31But if you were talented enough
07:33and a steady enough hand,
07:35and not do what I'm doing right now,
07:36you probably maybe could go in there
07:37and just paint a darker area around his eyes,
07:39just so his eyes pop a little bit better.
07:42Of course, he does have more of that brow
07:44there on the front of his face.
07:45It's a good-looking head sculpt,
07:46it just needs a little more.
07:49Being that he's also a classic Martian Manhunter,
07:51he of course has the larger little buttons there
07:53that snap the cape to the front of his,
07:55I guess his bandolier,
07:57his armor there that he has on the front.
07:59Now, what's interesting though about the armor
08:01is that when you kind of turn the figure,
08:03you'll see that it's not actually attached to his belt.
08:05It looks like it's actually more so attached
08:07to the bottom of his torso.
08:09I don't know if it's actually just been glued in there
08:12or they've wrapped it maybe around,
08:14like maybe they've taken the top of the torso,
08:16taken the crisscross of the plastic
08:18and wrapped it around,
08:19like what would be then the ball joint.
08:21And of course that would be snapped onto the torso
08:23because there is movement.
08:24You can move it separately though
08:26from the rest of his belt.
08:27It was one problem I thought was going to be an issue
08:29with Martian Manhunter
08:30was that I wouldn't be able to turn this
08:31thinking that this would all be one piece,
08:33but it doesn't seem to be the case.
08:35I don't know how extreme really that we can pull this
08:37because I really don't want to start to snag this.
08:39But I am thankful at least though
08:41that McFarland Toys chose not to have this
08:43as all one piece.
08:45Gold looks good down below here for the belt buckle,
08:47which again matches the colors for the snaps that he has.
08:50He doesn't really have much really
08:51in the way of the outfit.
08:52Of course, he's got his blue trunks
08:53and these large buccaneer kind of boots.
08:56The pegs that they've used here
08:58is a slightly lighter shade of the blue.
09:00I mean, it stands a little bit more out,
09:02but it's not really that bad.
09:04Of course, he does have the peg holes
09:05on the bottoms of his feet.
09:06We'll kind of run through the articulation on the figure.
09:08But overall, like I'm really happy with this one.
09:10The only thing I really wish
09:11that the figure could have had
09:12that could have maybe improved it
09:14is just shadowing a little bit more around the eyes
09:16and then also adding a wire into the color.
09:20It didn't need to be,
09:21like if they wanted to save some cost,
09:22it didn't necessarily need to be sewn
09:24into the actual main cape.
09:25It would have been nice if they did.
09:27But at the very least though,
09:28right here and right here would have been perfect.
09:31Because I'm going to see again,
09:32if I could try to find a way.
09:33I think just again, a hot iron.
09:35If I just crease the top of that,
09:37that might be enough for the collar to stay down.
09:40For the figure's articulation,
09:41page puncher's Martian Manhunter.
09:43His head rotates all the way around.
09:44Of course, it can move up and down.
09:46This guy would work really well too
09:48with a flight stand,
09:49even though like again, he doesn't have one.
09:50I've got enough flight stands now
09:52with the DC Multiverse releases.
09:53Just clip it onto his waist
09:54and have this guy levitating.
09:56His arms rotate all the way around.
09:59I'm not going to do this now
10:00for the next five minutes.
10:01His arms also hinge out.
10:03They seem loose.
10:05And they're not loose necessarily
10:07because I was doing this this whole time.
10:08But they were a little loose
10:09getting them out of the packaging.
10:11His body doesn't necessarily look like
10:13it's red tornadoes either.
10:15There are certain aspects to him
10:16that I thought for a second,
10:17maybe that is red tornadoes.
10:19But then the more I look at it,
10:21it does seem like there's some different sculpting though
10:23that's on Martian Manhunter's arms,
10:25his torso.
10:25So I mean, definitely like if you look at his rib cage,
10:27his rib cage is a little bit more profound,
10:29a little bit more detailed
10:31than that of red tornadoes.
10:33So it doesn't really look though
10:34like they're using the same body.
10:36Obviously the boots are a little bit different
10:36also as well.
10:39Back though to his arms.
10:40Like I said, his arms do have a bicep swivel.
10:42There's a double hinge on the elbow.
10:44Hands rotate all the way around.
10:45This guy gets, by the way,
10:46afforded no additional swappable hands,
10:49which is a bit of a bummer
10:50because again, he only has,
10:51he has a gripping hand,
10:52but it's not really gripping anything.
10:53And then he's got a close fist,
10:55which again,
10:56I guess a close fist is okay,
10:57but a couple of relaxed hands
10:59would have gone a long way as well.
11:01Legs split.
11:02Now I've noticed with his legs,
11:03they seem like they don't really want to go that far.
11:06I don't know if because of that,
11:07maybe it's the lower trunks that are the culprit.
11:10They're not giving enough clearance around them
11:13that yeah, moving the legs out,
11:14there seems like you can only go really so far with them.
11:17Legs move forward
11:18and they also move back.
11:19There's a swivel there at the top of the thigh.
11:21Not much though.
11:22Just a little bit.
11:23Just a little bit.
11:24Double hinge on the knee.
11:25There's no articulation at all for the boot.
11:27This boot is actually just a continued sculpt
11:29for the rest of the calf.
11:30Ankle moves up and down.
11:32Ankle rocks back and forth.
11:33And there is of course,
11:34toe articulation as well.
11:36Martian Manhunter for me is like one of those,
11:39I say that not to offend the character,
11:41but he's a filler character
11:43that is a much needed filler character.
11:46If I was only solely collecting singular characters,
11:49I probably wouldn't have sourced out
11:51getting a Martian Manhunter.
11:52But the fact though,
11:53that I'm trying to collect
11:54kind of what I consider in my mind
11:56to be a superpowers league lineup.
11:58I mean, if I'm going to have a,
11:59like a Red Tornado,
12:00I'm definitely going to want to have
12:01a Martian Manhunter.
12:03And there really hasn't been,
12:04there have been ones released before,
12:06but the closest one that I really had,
12:07if I can just get this guy to here to stand,
12:09the closest Martian Manhunter that I had
12:12was this guy right here.
12:13And he was okay for the time.
12:14I mean, I guess if I wanted to have
12:16a more modern lineup,
12:17he would fit the part better.
12:18But for me, like at some point,
12:20I want to have like the classic league guys
12:22all on display.
12:23Like your Wonder Womans,
12:24your Batmans, your Supermans,
12:25you know, your Red Tornadoes,
12:27whether people want to really put
12:28a Red Tornado out there or not.
12:30All the ones that were released as superpowers,
12:32I kind of want to have
12:33larger scale versions of them.
12:34And again, like this version of Martian Manhunter
12:37really isn't going to be the ideal for that.
12:39This guy is going to be
12:40the better ideal for that.
12:41He's a page puncher though,
12:42which unfortunately does mean though,
12:44the figure doesn't have any,
12:45any really additional accessories.
12:48Swappable hands, forget about it.
12:50He does of course come include
12:51with a trading card, a display stand.
12:52So there's your trading card,
12:54there's your display stand.
12:55And for your private reading,
12:57the figure does also come include,
12:58of course, with Justice League America,
12:59number 77,
13:01which again is a nice little read.
13:02So, you know,
13:03when you're finished opening up your figure,
13:05whether you choose to review them
13:06like I just did,
13:07or you're just looking to get them
13:08out of the packaging,
13:09plastic prison,
13:10put them on the shelf,
13:10look at them just with admiration.
13:13Then when you're done with that,
13:14you can sit down and read the comic.
13:16Great looking figure.
13:17He could have been a little bit better.
13:18He could have been a little bit worse though.
13:20He sort of meets in the middle.
13:21And for me,
13:22that's good enough for a Martian Manhunter,
13:24at least when it comes to displaying him
13:25on the shelf.
13:26I don't feel a little bit bad
13:26that I call this guy a filler figure.
13:28Filler figure, by the way,
13:30doesn't imply though,
13:31that he didn't need to exist.
13:32Like his present isn't really welcome
13:34there on the shelf.
13:35If anything,
13:36filler figure is more of a compliment.
13:38And the reason why it's a compliment
13:40is because he's a figure
13:41that's filling a void
13:42that would be otherwise a void
13:44if he wasn't there.
13:45Did I save that one?
13:46I think I saved that one.
13:48Yeah, Martian Manhunter for me,
13:49like if I want to have a set idea
13:51of what I want to have
13:52my Justice League shelf to have,
13:53I'm going to be having
13:54like a modernized
13:55Justice League figure shelf
13:57or display,
13:58and I'm going to have one
13:58that's kind of more tied
13:59to superpowers.
14:00Like Martian Manhunter,
14:02saying filler figure is,
14:04that's high on my list.
14:05He's a figure that needs to be there
14:06along with a Firestorm,
14:08a Red Tornado,
14:09and other figures that I had
14:11as a kid growing up.
14:12He looks certainly, though,
14:14like a superpowers Martian Manhunter.
14:16And overall,
14:16I think McFarlane Toys
14:17has done a really great job on him.
14:19He lacks some things,
14:21like details around his eyes,
14:23because his eyes do seem like
14:24they get a little lost
14:25amongst the shuffle there
14:26of his face.
14:27And also, too,
14:28not having a wire sewn
14:29into the sides of his collar,
14:31he always feels like
14:32you're going to have to go in there
14:33and kind of constantly
14:34correct the collar.
14:35And I really didn't want that.
14:37I wanted his cape, really,
14:38his cape collar,
14:39to be more like Red Tornado,
14:41where while he didn't have it,
14:42though, in the main cape,
14:43he at least had it in the collar
14:44so he could move it around.
14:45It's funny, though,
14:46that I say that
14:47because Red Tornado
14:48doesn't necessarily need
14:49to have things that you need.
14:50You don't have to manipulate
14:51the collar for Red Tornado.
14:53If it's sticking up,
14:55it's doing the job
14:56it needs to do.
14:57Martian Manhunter requires,
14:58I think,
14:59a little bit more finesse,
15:00being able to bend down the collar
15:01and give him that crease
15:02that he has.
15:02I'm going to see
15:03if I can replicate that
15:04without having a wire
15:05or being that that seam
15:07has been sewn into the sides.
15:08Maybe I might be able
15:09to even grab myself
15:10something small
15:10like a twist tie,
15:12like a little bread tie.
15:13Obviously,
15:14without the plastic
15:14clearly around it.
15:15But if I took
15:16like a little wire
15:17from a bread tie,
15:18I wonder if I could find
15:19a way to fit that in there
15:21because there's enough
15:22of a hole,
15:23I think,
15:23that if I get the wire
15:24in there,
15:25I might be able then
15:26to use that to my advantage.
15:28I'd be able to bend the collar
15:28and give him that trademark
15:30Martian Manhunter collar
15:31that unfortunately
15:32the figure getting
15:33out of the packaging
15:34doesn't have.
15:35What do you guys though
15:36think of Page Punchers,
15:37Martian Manhunter?
15:37Let me know down below
15:38in the comment section.
15:39What other characters,
15:41figures wise,
15:42would you say
15:42is a filler figure
15:43on your shelf?
15:44Where again,
15:45it's not necessarily
15:45a negative idea.
15:47It's a figure
15:47that needs to be in there
15:49to complete
15:49what you would be
15:50considered your perfect lineup.
15:52What would you say
15:53is a filler figure?
15:54Let me know down below
15:55in the comment section.
15:55If in the meantime though
15:56you guys did enjoy this video,
15:57you can do it as solid,
15:58throw it a like.
15:59You guys want to stick around
16:00for more so?
16:00I do hope so.
16:01We're going to have
16:01some more videos
16:02coming your way.
16:02Yes, we are.
16:03If in the meantime
16:04you need your fix
16:05popping up of course
16:06at the very end of this video.
16:07Oh God,
16:07he's going to be shamelessly
16:08plugging a playlist.
16:09Yes, I am.
16:10At the very end of this video,
16:11if you don't mind me saying,
16:12there's going to be a playlist
16:13for McFarlane Toys.
16:15Yeah?
16:15In the adjacent corner,
16:17there's going to be a playlist
16:17for all my DC Multiverse reviews.
16:19So if you have a little bit
16:20of time on your hands,
16:22again, good luck
16:23if you're an adult
16:24and you especially have children.
16:25I mean like,
16:25what time,
16:26what little time
16:27do we actually have?
16:28But if you happen
16:29to have a little bit of time
16:29and you don't mind
16:30checking out the playlist,
16:31you'll find again
16:32a whole ton of different
16:33DC Multiverse reviews
16:34that I've done
16:35with all the future ones
16:36showing up in there as well.
16:38As always guys,
16:39thanks for watching.
16:39See you guys next time.
