00:16packaging here's a look at the brand new mcfarlane toys dc direct dc classics brainiac
00:27brainiac is real dogs a colu native considered to be the planet's greatest shame and highest criminal
00:32banned from his own world due to a zealot-like quest for knowledge brainiac is a super intelligent
00:36being he employs his high-tech skull-shaped ship and a variety of drones that travel the cosmos
00:41and imprison the chosen cities miniaturizing them to preserve them in his perverse pursuits of
00:46universal knowledge on his mad quest he had clashed with multiple heroes but none more than
00:51superman as the captor and bottler of the kryptonian city candor brainiac more has earned his ire of
00:58krypton's most famous survivor and champion quite fitting that the collector of worlds can now be
01:04added to our collection and before though we get a closer look at the dc classics brainiac let's first
01:08maybe take the tape measure and see how tall the figure's gonna stand grab this from the facebook
01:13marketplace grab this from yeah you guessed it popeye the toy man popeye the toy man hook this
01:19guy up and for how tall though brainiac's gonna stand i've got the tape measure telling me seven
01:25inches it is see it for yourself that's gonna work out though to be a figure that's 18 centimeters tall
01:31now i suppose you could really have him displayed with any soups my personal favorite superman just
01:35happens to be this guy right here size wise though you can see that the classics brainiac is going to
01:41be a little shorter than superman in fact he actually seems to be using the same body and
01:45build as the nightfall batman which we'll talk about a little bit more in a moment in the meantime
01:50also let's bring in a couple of other versions of brainiac we still don't have the kenner superpowers
01:54brainiac a figure though i long for and i hope that todd can release one before the line runs out
01:59in the meantime though we certainly do have the injustice to brainiac and one that's a little more
02:04wonkier here's also what the figure looks like with the ghosts of krypton maybe not the ghosts of
02:08krypton past but the ghosts certainly have figures past previous past characters that have had this
02:13body begs then the question with very minimal amounts of retooling required for brainiac only
02:18in his belt only in his collar then why does the figure have nothing in the way of accessories
02:24sure yes he does come included with a display stand sure yes i do like the look of the dc

02:30branded down below walking distance from that's whether you have tiny little feet or not there's the
02:35peg and of course that can plug into either one of brainiac's boots the figure of course does also
02:40come include with a trading card so a budget had to be spent somewhere we've got action comics this
02:45comic issue was 10 cents 10 cents not going to be 10 cents anymore superman seems to be battling
02:51brainiac what only seems to be on a tiny little asteroid rock you can read that for certainly yourself
02:58you may not have to necessarily read the back of this only just because i've already beaten you to it
03:02it's the very same thing that i read at the beginning of the review you're telling me that you just
03:06didn't pull that information out of your head no sometimes not this time actually i pulled it just
03:13from the back of the card but this is really as i show you right now the only thing that's
03:18being
03:18represented with the character when it comes to is included accessories not that you would really
03:22consider a trading card to be an accessory i suppose if anything you probably could consider the
03:26display stand to be one but then why would the figure not include anything else i made the joke of
03:31suffocation and by no means am i saying that suffocating is something to be so funny about
03:35but all in all seriousness all seriousness why would they not have included the little bottled city of
03:41candor as one of the included accessories for brainiac because really when you look at the figure
03:46there's not really much that's different about him saying then already that the figure has a brand
03:50new tooled belt that's one thing he has also a brand new sculpted collar piece and the obvious thing is
03:56that he also has a brand new head sculpt but short of that everything else that's on this figure
04:02whether it be again the bracers on the sides of his arms painted in boots those are all really
04:07things that are already painted over top an existing body so they did save some cost i'm not playing a
04:13little miniature violin by the way they have saved cost here that you would think that they could have
04:18used in those costs to throw in extra accessories as well i am not faulting the fact that we don't
04:23get a
04:23decent looking brainiac the colors look great great for him like with brainiac and the classic
04:28look he does have again all those little again a little orb that he has on the top of his
04:32head
04:34now as certainly though brainiac would go into like superman the animated series for example
04:38brainiac then was known for the triangular shape although here we kind of have a bit of that on the
04:43front but you get a whole lot more of that on the top and the back of his head these
04:48have been
04:48sculpted i would be disappointed if they weren't the face does look good as well he bears somewhat
04:54of a resemblance to lex luthor although i would hate to really think that they're going to use
04:59this head again for a lex luthor i think that would be a little cheap although again like even if
05:04they
05:04were to use this for luthor i don't think it's that bad of a head sculpt the colors though for
05:09the
05:09green do seem like they're a little on the dark olive side when again like if you compare it really
05:13to
05:13the card it's very easy in fact to actually match the colors here of the pink and the green
05:18brainiac i could say could be a little bit of a brighter green than really like the dark olive
05:23military green that we end up getting for the figure saying that though the face sculpt and the
05:27paint look quite good on the figure of course now again you got a brand new color i know i
05:32again
05:32already covered all this he does also have again a belt but the paint for at least what we get
05:36is pretty
05:37good things like for example his knees unfortunately have to use a harder plastic just to survive the
05:43test of bending his knees all the time and also as well for his elbows so things like his elbows
05:48things like his knees will be a different color than the plastic that's around it there's no real
05:52way to avoid that at all again i think the figure is really good for those that have really been
05:58wanting to get a dc classics brainiac i think it does check all the boxes necessarily but then it
06:04leaves a box left behind down below that isn't checked off and it's like added accessories you've saved so
06:11you've saved so much really mcfarlane toys by producing a figure that's essentially using
06:15bodies body parts from before you've saved the cost there adding just some additional accessories i
06:20think would have really made this figure a lot better than what he is for on his own as he
06:24is on
06:24his own good looking brainiac i just feel like though he needed a little bit more for brainiac's
06:30articulation though the head is going to be on a ball joint follow me along though as the head rotates
06:34all the way around the head can look down and up back and forth the top of the torso does
06:41also have
06:41a ball joint so it does really the same just it's a little bit bigger uh the lower abdomen is
06:46also
06:46more of that as well the arms rotate of course all the way around you can hinge those arms very
06:51easily
06:52out at 90 degrees or t pose uh i don't know if maybe this is just because again they've used
06:57the
06:58mold so so often but i've noticed like the arms getting out of the packaging were a little on the
07:01tad loose side he has a i wouldn't want to really say like a bicep swivel that was easy right
07:08away
07:08to turn when i got him out of the packaging it did take a little bit persuasion a little bit
07:12of
07:12convincing but when it was finally said and done i could actually rotate the bicep all the way around
07:17figure does have a double hinge on the elbow hands rotate they do all the way around and back and
07:22forth
07:23as well and you know again like even just to look at the hands right now he has a close
07:27fist and then
07:28he also has a grabbing hand now with not including any other accessories just a ray gun a ray gun
07:33would
07:34have been fine and good for brainiac and yet they couldn't have even thrown him that legs go forward
07:39and back they are a little more limited just because again the way that the design trunks are
07:44it does though limit a little bit of what you can actually do with the legs they go back they
07:48go
07:48out ratcheted joints again swivel at the top of the thigh boy that's noisy right the top of the thigh
07:54it goes does have a double hinge on the knee good and tight there as well nothing in the boot

08:00again like the boot is only just going to be more painted calf but he does have at least an
08:04ankle
08:04pivot and an ankle rocker back and forth toe articulation yeah he does toe articulation here
08:09toe articulation there as well in both places crazy isn't it yeah you know again what's a little
08:15crazy about brainiac though is not that he's not a bad looking figure in fact he is but it's just
08:19that
08:20because they have really used this body you kind of would have to look at how much and where budget
08:25goes when it comes to producing an action figure a lot of that for most of the time goes into
08:29the
08:29tooling of the initial mold why am i having such a hard time getting this guy to stand let's grab
08:33his display stand here with a lot of the times the cost really going into that initial mold that's
08:40where all the money really goes you have to make the mold from scratch and then once that's essentially
08:44done really then you're just churning out any figure that you need using that mold with that mold
08:48already essentially being done tooling really only again the few little things like his belt
08:53and his collar piece i mean again a lot of the initial off the off the top cuts off the
08:59off the
08:59top budget was really spent already making the mold you already have the mold so i think though that
09:04there could have been a good time and really a suitable enough time to bring in some additional
09:08accessories for brainiac he is definitely by far the bed is the best the best the best of the
09:15brainiacs that we have gotten and i guess that really isn't necessarily saying whole much like
09:19we never got really a batman animated series i would love if they could have done a batman
09:22modernized batman animated series brainiac always thought that that was one of the coolest designs
09:27to the character but i mean again like if you kind of look at really what we've gotten already for
09:31brainiac we've got the ghost of krypton we've also got injustice 2 i mean they were again stand-ins
09:36for brainiac with only just the hope that we were eventually going to get like a classic look to the
09:40character and now we finally do i guess again speaking of the classic i hope though at some
09:46point i know we're getting really near the end of the line i mean if you were really looking at
09:51your
09:51calendar whether it's outdated or not i think it's like the beginning of 2027 is really when the line
09:56stops getting made and of course then mattel is going to fully fully invest in getting those
10:02figures out to meet the collector's needs mcfarlane doesn't really have a whole lot time left but i hope
10:07with the time that he has left he doesn't just stop with doing the classic brainiac but i hope
10:11at some point though he also does the superpowers version of him as well my favorite design of the
10:15character by the merits of the mold when it comes to brainiac i think overall you're getting a pretty
10:19good looking figure you're getting only though a displaced in and you're only going to be getting
10:23a trading card and if that's enough for you and you don't really need any more then i think you're
10:28going to be pretty happy to have this brainiac on your shelf if you were to really look at the
10:32price of
10:32what this guy goes for calculate that out with the other dc multiverse figures that are also on the
10:37shelves too if other figures are going to come with at least swappable hands maybe again a weapon of
10:42some sort and brainiac isn't going to come with that you do have to again look at figures like this
10:46and think could they not have come included with something else as well a bottled candor maybe would
10:51have been a little bit too much for the budget i would have had hoped at the very most the
10:55figure
10:55could have come included with a ray gun now i know where mandates are in dc they can't always
11:00necessarily throw in things like real guns but a laser gun a pew pew pew gun i think at the
11:06very
11:06least could have come include with brainiac and beefed up the packaging a little bit more than
11:10what it was for again the merits of the look of the character the coloring that they gave for the
11:14green and the pink again he's a very well painted figure but again i just look at this and i
11:20want
11:20maybe just a little bit more what do you guys think of dc classics brainiac do you think it also
11:25is a bit
11:26of a shame that the figure didn't come include with anything if he had only had swappable hands
11:32and he didn't even have a weapon really for those hands to hold you could at least say well he
11:37got
11:37extra hands he got a trading card and he got a display stand whether again you want to use them
11:41or not but only really again having those two things that are always really with dc figures in
11:46the first place do you feel like yeah the figure could have come with a little bit more than what
11:50he did
11:51if you guys are uh did by the way are interested to get this one for yourself it should be
11:55around
11:55um i say that though being as a canadian collector i mean around doesn't always necessarily mean that
12:00around is inside stores around could mean that it's online around in my case could be that it was
12:05actually on the facebook marketplace and around for me meant that i also got this from popeye the toy
12:10man he in fact actually has hooked me up with a whole bunch of dc multiverse figures and thanks to
12:17actually him we'll be looking at a whole bunch of them in upcoming reviews if you guys did enjoy
