00:00This is the most terrified dog we've ever rescued. This is Scout. We brought him home three weeks ago
00:06and honestly we still don't know if it's even possible to help a dog this shut down.
00:12Oh no, Scout's wearing himself. But we refused to give up on him.
00:19So this is the first time we brought Scout home. He'd shut down in the corner but we did manage
00:24to get him into his crate unfortunately in a way we didn't want to. He spent the first three days
00:33in his crate but when he did eventually come out we figured this is the best time for him to
00:37try and
00:38meet all our dogs. So we've come downstairs and just realized that this one has come out his crate. I
00:44think this is a good time to bring Kobe in and see what he's like. Okay so we're gonna let
00:51I'm gonna
00:51let Kobe in first. Come on Cindy Kobe come. Come here Kobe. Good boy. Good boy yes he's very scared.
01:01So we're really hoping that our dogs are gonna teach him how to dog because he's obviously
01:05gonna be super scared of us right now. So he's obviously really scared of us so hopefully over
01:13today him just seeing these dogs moving around. He'll be okay. We're gonna let Cindy in.
01:18Cindy is our other rescue. We're hoping she'll understand what Scout is going through.
01:23Cindy's just having a sniff of everything. So I'm gonna back away a bit and see if that gives
01:28Scout any more confidence. Good boy. This is good. You can't really see Scout because he's proper
01:35tucked himself under. There he is. I honestly don't think Cindy has even realized that he's there. Oh there you
01:41go.
01:43Oh that's not the dog to meet Cindy that's Kobe. Okay well last dog we're gonna get is Moki. Moki
01:50is our
01:50crazy resident Doberman and you'll see later on in the video how much Scout ends up loving this dog.
01:58Good girl. Moki's like is there any food or anything? She's having a good sniff of everything.
02:05They're being really good. It's like they know that he's just super scared. They're like okay.
02:10There you go Moki's properly just realized. Little tail wag. So hopefully him now even seeing like
02:19the fact that we're an entire pack here. So Scout has slightly moved position. To be honest this is the
02:24first time I feel like we've properly seen him since the first day we had him and he's so cute.
02:29But that actually makes it a little bit easier now because now we can do what we usually do.
02:34Just walk around the house completely ignoring him and hopefully hopefully he's gonna eventually
02:39get the confidence to leave that area. Scout stayed in that area for hours. We put a little
02:44blanket down for him and figured this is the perfect time to try and put a collar on him. Ella
02:49is gonna
02:50try and put a collar on him. She's been doing the best with him in terms of him being comfortable
02:55with her. He looks more scared to me than you. Let him sniff it. Because of how unsure Scout still
03:00is,
03:00Ella's gonna move really slowly so that he doesn't get spooked and try to bite. He was looking pretty
03:07scared but she did manage to get the collar somewhat on him. So now he's out his crate and has
03:26a collar on,
03:27we came up with an idea to let him explore and hopefully decompress. So we are going to be taking
03:33all of our dogs out and then he is gonna have free roam of downstairs for the first time. We're
03:39picking everything up because we found that he is chewing on stuff. I mean he is just a puppy.
03:44We've got cameras here and here to keep an eye on him and we're also going to section this off
03:50so
03:50that he can't go into the kitchen and you can see we're like hiding stuff in the kitchen that we
03:54think
03:55he may poo and wee on. We've got puppy pads down and we're gonna leave him a lick mat and
03:59a toy.
04:00We're really hoping that he goes for that lick mat because it's really gonna help him
04:04de-stress from everything. So whilst we walk our dogs, is our plan gonna work with Scout?
04:09The first thing he did is start sniffing the lick mat. I'm hoping he's brave enough to go for it.
04:15He creeps forward, creeps forward again and actually goes for it. Look at him leaning, bless him. This
04:24is perfect because it's really gonna help him decompress. He actually ends up getting up and starts
04:29housing the food down. Our dogs are having the time of their life on the walk but Scout wasn't
04:38done there. What he did next really surprised us. He starts having a chew on his toy.
04:48He gets up to have a little explore and then starts testing our gate.
05:01He was so brave. We're finishing the walk with our dogs now so let's go home and see how Scout
05:07is.
05:08Okay, so he did manage to get into the kitchen. This door was closed. I've just opened it now.
05:15Nothing is destroyed. I think he had a bit of a party whilst we were gone. Good boy Scout. Well
05:20done.
05:21Oh, that's really good. He had a good go at his lick, man. That's really, really good.
05:25Later that day, we actually managed to capture this. It's the first time Scout properly met one of the dogs.
05:44Scout has had a busy day but the next day didn't go so well.
05:49So unfortunately, Scout has regressed today, has literally been in his crate the entire day,
05:55which is a problem because he hasn't gone to the toilet. So what we probably need to do is sort
06:00of
06:00like section off a little area for him again tonight so that he's actually brave enough to go to the
06:04toilet when nobody's here. He looks terrified, the poor thing. I feel so sorry for him to be stuck here.
06:11Well, he's not stuck here but to stay in here the entire day. I have done something that may be
06:15incredibly stupid. He doesn't like going to the toilet in that little area there. So I have tried
06:21to set up a little like area for him. Now, I know he likes to escape and so I've set
06:27this up.
06:28I've got a chair against like the barrier bit that he can open here. I'm so sorry, Cindy.
06:35I've got this against this here. I've put this massive footstool thing there and I've tried to
06:41block off the sofa. Ella's currently upstairs chilling out and if she came downstairs, I think
06:46she'd have a go at me. I've given Scout some toys. I don't know if you can see him in
06:50there.
06:51He's got toys. He's got water. We've got a camera set up there, a camera set up there,
06:57a camera set up there and let's see what he does tonight. Hopefully, he just goes into this crazy
07:03little space that I built, goes to the toilet and that's that. Something tells me he's not going to do
07:07that. The thing is with these rescue dogs that were former street dogs, if they want to get into
07:12somewhere or out of somewhere, they will. Let's see how this goes. I think I've lost my mind.
07:21It had literally been 45 minutes and Scout already starts testing the barriers I built.
07:27He's jumping on things, prodding things, pushing things until eventually he figures out how to get
07:33out. This isn't going to work. Okay, so unlucky for Scout. I heard him moving everything about.
07:42So unfortunately, he cannot be trusted. He has got a puppy pad here. I'm going to leave his toys.
07:48So he's just got one. And I'm sorry, Scout, but you're going to have to go into your crate
07:54because I can see what you're trying to do. And he's still got somewhere to go to the toilet if
07:58he needs it.
07:59Sorry, mate. You're right under there, Scout. The next day, you can see we swapped out our
08:05dining table for something a bit smaller so that Scout can see and take everything in. Ella also
08:10started doing some treat work with him to try and help him come out of his shell. I'm going to
08:14sit
08:14opposite Ella. I'm going to go to treat you now. Do you want to sniff? Good boy. Well done. Oh.
08:27Oh, yeah. Get that off the floor. Good boy. It's taken us two weeks to even get to this point.
08:35He will
08:35actually take a treat out of Ella's hand now, which is great. Although two weeks is not a long time,
08:40Scout is clearly still really skittish and anxious. It must be really hard constantly dealing with these
08:46big emotions. So we realized we need some help. So we called our vets to see what we can do.
08:51Hello. I'm calling about one of our rescue dogs. His name is Scout. He's quite like scared and
08:58anxious sort of like of everything, like to a point where he's really struggling to settle.
09:03We've had him for a few weeks now and we're sort of like working slowly and at his pace. But
09:08we're
09:09concerned that because he's struggling to settle, we're wondering if you were able to prescribe
09:12anything to help reduce his anxiety. This is where it became a real problem. We can't even get near him.
09:26So taking him to the vets just isn't possible. We wanted to see a vet registered behaviorist
09:32to explore where the medication could help take the edge off. But before that can happen,
09:36he needs a full veterinary assessment, which meant one thing. We had to try and find a vet
09:42willing to do a home visit. So we are going to call the mobile vets because quite clearly every
09:49single dog behaviorist that we try and get in touch with needs to have like a vet assessment for our
09:54scout. So let's give them a call and see if we can get them to come around as soon as
09:58possible.
09:58Thank you for calling. If you're an existing client, please leave a message and we'll get
10:03back to you as soon as possible. Please note, we're not currently taking on new patients.
10:11Oh my god. Okay, so not a great start. They said they're not taking on new patients,
10:16but I sent them a message anyway. So I've just typed in mobile vets name me onto Google and let's
10:23try to call another one. Yeah, I'm afraid you're too far from us. So we are like a little small
10:28So we kept on hitting dead ends. We actually ended up calling back our vets to explain the situation.
10:33They gave us a contact they had and we finally managed to book a vet in for an assessment.
10:38We'll show you later how that went.
10:42But what a day. I think Scout's even having nightmares on how hard this is.
10:50A few days had passed and Scout actually started to become braver.
11:02What's wrong? He's going to explore. Good boy.
11:13This is amazing.
11:17Leave the webcam alone.
11:22He's wagging his tail. Good boy.
11:35I could honestly cry watching this. It's literally the first time we've seen him be a puppy.
11:41He is only one years old after all. We weren't sure if he was too far gone,
11:46but this has given us hope. If that's not worth hitting that subscribe button, then I don't know what is.
11:53His progress didn't stop there either because the next morning he suddenly realized he loves our
11:58Doberman Moki.
12:25I think he just decided Moki is his safe space and he wouldn't leave her.
12:29I think he just decided Moki's his safe space and he wouldn't leave her.
12:29I think that's right.
12:35The dogs breakfast is all ready,
12:37so I'm going to show you how I feed them.
12:39One baby, one baby, one baby, one baby, two scouts, come on, one, two, one scout, good boy, good girl,
12:56what's up, good boy, good boy, good girl, yes, yes, and now this is my opportunity to clean the house,
13:06whoa.
13:07Ella then spends the next 45 minutes cleaning the house, just for Scout to leave her a little present.
13:13Well, I guess this is my fault because I didn't put any puppy pads down, so present for me, woo.
13:19Scout then starts to smother Mokey a little bit, it looks like she's going to have to teach him some
13:24dog ladders.
13:31He then tries to pull her, Mokey's got so much patience because he then starts biting at her ankles.
13:49Scout's got a lot to learn, but that's okay.
13:52To continue helping him, we actually got on the phone to a trainer we know who suggested we do this.
13:57We'd have to do this really, really carefully, but he seemed so interested in Cindy doing the noise box when
14:04it was, you know, the really shallow box.
14:06So it might be worth, put it, don't let it scrape on the floor and then put treats in there
14:13and see if he'll do a narrow noise box.
14:15Yeah.
14:15So keep the other dogs away from him because you don't want conflict over food and then give him something
14:21really nice to chew on just to carry on decompressing him because I really do think he needs more decompression
14:27time.
14:28Okay.
14:29So we got the low noise box, we put a bunch of treats in it.
14:32Alright, that's enough.
14:34Okay.
14:34Maybe one too many and then left Scout alone with it.
14:38All the other dogs as well are put away so that Scout has got his own time and his own
14:44space to be able to just engage whilst we are gone.
14:48So we are going to set you guys up on this tripod and hopefully capture Scout going for the treats.
14:55Scout was watching, waiting for us to leave, but it didn't take him long to start housing the food down.
15:04So I've just come back and I can see that Scout has finished everything, which is really good.
15:08We've literally left him for about five minutes.
15:11So now we're going to give him like a really long lasting chew and hopefully he's going to chew on
15:16that again just to help him decompress because he's still really on edge and all of these things will help
15:21him to calm down.
15:22So let's go and get a chew for him and hopefully he engages with that too.
15:25I've got a cod bar for him.
15:28It's quite hard because ideally he's going to be chewing on it for like 20 minutes, half an hour.
15:33Hopefully he doesn't finish it in five minutes, but I'm going to give this to him and let's see how
15:37he gets on with it.
15:38Good boy, mate.
15:39It's okay.
15:41Here you go.
15:43Good boy.
15:44Oh, he's already having a sniff of it.
15:46So again, I'm going to set you guys up on the tripod and let's see if he goes for it.
15:51So I'm literally behind the camera right now setting it up and he's already gone for it, which is really
15:57good.
15:57I think because I'm speaking, he's not too keen.
15:59I left Scout alone.
16:00It made me so happy to see him going for his chew.
16:03The decompressing seemed to really help because the next morning he was happy as anything and Ella is starting to
16:09get into a routine with him.
16:11I'm going to let Scoutie out.
16:13Good morning.
16:15All right.
16:15We're going to let Scoutie out.
16:16So I think you need the toilet.
16:19Hang on.
16:21Hang on.
16:22Hang on.
16:23Hang on.
16:24Hang on.
16:29Hello, darling.
16:31Right.
16:33I'm going to give him a minute because he always goes to the toilet in the morning.
16:38Yeah.
16:38Hello, go back.
16:40See, here he goes.
16:42Straight away.
16:43Good boy.
16:44Hello, Scoutie.
16:47There's a low.
16:48Come on then.
16:49Hello.
16:50Hello.
16:51Come on then.
16:53Hello, Papa.
16:54He's going to do his number two now.
16:56He's going to completely miss it.
16:59He's scattered them everywhere.
17:00Okay.
17:01He's completely missed that.
17:02That's fine.
17:03Right.
17:03I need to clean that up.
17:05Yeah.
17:06What are you two doing?
17:08Are you excited?
17:10Scoutie, are you excited?
17:12Hiya.
17:13I know we need a rug so Scout doesn't slip, but the problem is he pees and poos on it
17:18all
17:18the time.
17:19Ella cleaned up the poo, and when she let the other dogs out, Scout, of course, went absolutely
17:23nuts when he saw Mokey.
17:25Cindy, you look so cute.
17:27You're waiting patiently.
17:29Here you go, darling.
17:30Come on then.
17:31Right, you come.
17:32You're not going to go say hello?
17:35No?
17:36You waiting?
17:37Oh, good stretch, Cindy, girl.
17:40All right then.
17:41That's up there, yeah?
17:43Yes.
17:44Good girl, good morning.
17:47She doesn't like this.
17:57You can't blame Mokey for telling him off.
17:59She's just gotten out of bed, and Scout is all up in her face going nuts.
18:04Ella then lets all the dogs out.
18:05We're still yet to get Scout outside.
18:07You can see he doesn't really want to yet, and we're also worried about how we would even
18:11get him back in.
18:12And then Scout just waits for him to come back.
18:14Right, Mokey is waiting to come in.
18:16I've just put this here because he usually goes a bit manic and jumps all over us, so
18:20I've just given them something so they don't slip on.
18:22Here we go.
18:33Hello, darling.
18:35Oh, she wants to play.
18:40These two are teaching him a lot of dog manners.
18:43Cindy!
18:44Come on there, Cindy.
18:46Good girl.
18:49So that is Scout's new morning routine.
18:52Ella does it because he's still quite scared of me.
18:55Rescues do tend to prefer a woman.
18:57It secretly makes me really upset, but it's what it is.
19:00We then thought of an idea to try and get Scout to come out of his shell even more.
19:05Hello, Peggy girl.
19:08This is Peggy.
19:09We rescued her seven months ago, and Ella's parents ended up adopting her.
19:13She's a super playful one-year-old puppy.
19:16So we thought, why not bring Peggy back for a couple of days and see if Scout will want
19:20to play with her?
19:22Ella's going to let Scout out.
19:23Not me, because he prefers Ella.
19:25Oh, look at Peggy.
19:26Peggy rude.
19:26She's like...
19:27Scouty out.
19:28Go on, out.
19:29Mind your pawsies.
19:30Go on, Scout.
19:30Peggy's in the way.
19:31It's alright.
19:32Go on, Scout.
19:33Out.
19:35Aww.
19:36Good boy.
19:37Go on, out.
19:37Good boy.
19:38Go on.
19:39Move back a bit, JJ.
19:42Good boy.
19:43It's alright.
19:47So Scout's going to go into his little bit, but hopefully Peggy's going to go up to him
19:51and he's going to be like, oh, hello.
19:54There she goes.
19:58She's going up to every dog.
19:59Here we go.
20:00I don't think she's realised Scout's hiding under there.
20:02There he is.
20:03She's like, oh, hello.
20:09That is adorable.
20:10So, Will, a confident puppy, being around, helps Scout.
20:14For that to maybe happen, I think we all know what I need to do.
20:18I am going to be stepping out because Scout is so much more active when I'm out the room,
20:22which makes me really sad.
20:24So, it's down to the wife.
20:25I'm going to put this mic back on her.
20:28We also think Scout needs a poo.
20:29I don't know if you can hear this because I took my mic off.
20:31So, I'm going to leave the room.
20:33Just down to the wife.
20:35Good luck.
20:36How long are you going to be gone for?
20:37I'm hungry.
20:40So, Scout came out from under the table when I left.
20:43He went for his wee, not a poo.
20:45Peggy's chilling in the bed, but did go over to have a proper sniff of Scout.
20:58To be honest, not a lot really ended up happening.
21:01Seeing as we only had Peggy for a couple days, it didn't really give Scout much of a chance to
21:05get comfortable with her.
21:06But hey, it was worth a try.
21:08We ended up taking Peggy back home after a couple days.
21:11So, now it's finally time for Scout to have his vet visit and oh boy did he surprise us at
21:17the beginning.
21:19Yes, that is Scout with all the dogs and the vet at the front door.
21:23I think he got FOMO and came over, but I couldn't believe it.
21:26Maybe it's just me he doesn't like.
21:28He was going to parts of the house I'd literally never seen him in.
21:32He was being so brave, but how was the vet actually going to be able to get close enough to
21:36him to examine him?
21:37Well, it started off with Ella putting a muzzle on him.
21:39The last thing we want is to give him a bite history and endanger himself or anyone else.
21:44Ella managed to get it on.
21:45He looks absolutely adorable.
21:47But now the hard bit actually getting him out from under the table to examine him.
21:53A bit of context here.
21:55The vet had been in the house for about 30 minutes already.
21:57He was super patient and understanding, but obviously he couldn't be at hours all day.
22:02So Ella tries to get him out from under the table and that didn't go so well.
22:15I then tried to move the table so he couldn't hide under it and it completely freaked him out.
22:27I'm not doing much right to get him to like me here.
22:30I felt so bad.
22:32He did end up finding a corner in the kitchen and the vet was able to get close enough to
22:36examine him.
22:37To be honest, I'm a bit annoyed about this situation.
22:39We were forced to do it because we had to get a vet referral to get a behaviorist in.
22:43It's just a standard box to tick and for 99% of dogs, that's completely fine.
22:48But we tend to rescue the 1% where even something routine becomes a huge challenge.
22:53Okay, vet is gone.
22:55Scout is in his little decompression area.
22:58I guess this is where he's finding it to be safe.
23:00All of the dogs are also giving him emotional support.
23:04Once he goes back into his crate, we're going to give him like a chew and probably a lick mat
23:09as well to help him decompress.
23:11Luckily, he actually seemed to bounce back quite well after that.
23:14He did manage to make it back into his crate and we had a treat for him.
23:17We've got a pigs here for Scout to decompress after what was probably really scary for him.
23:23I guess this is going to take him a while to eat, but at least he's got something.
23:28Good boy.
23:29I'm happy to report I was wrong because it took him about two minutes to start devouring his pigs here,
23:35bless him.
23:35And that leads us to where we're at with him today.
23:39Although Scout has shown amazing progress, you've got to remember that these are like snippets of the day.
23:45It's sometimes only like 10 minutes where, you know, he plays with Moki, for example.
23:50Unfortunately, 95% of the day, he's still like this and super, super scared.
23:55The progress is obviously amazing.
23:57And we're really, really happy to see like even just little snippets of his personality.
24:01But obviously he's still like really, really scared.
24:05The plan now is to get the vet behaviorist in, who's hopefully going to really give us information on how
24:12to help him come out of his shell more.
24:14And then we will see where we're at.
24:16So we may not have an update for a few months, however long it takes to really start working on
24:21bringing Scout out of his shell.
24:22But we're not going to give up on him.
24:24We're going to get even more help in and make sure we help this dog as much as we can.
24:28Thank you so much for watching.
24:30Be sure to subscribe so you don't miss Scout's next video.
24:33If you haven't seen the moment we first rescued him, that video is on screen now.
24:37So give it a tap or a click and I'll see you there.
