Can we Find this Terrified Rescue Puppy a Forever Home?

We spent the next 4 weeks trying to help this rescue puppy gain her confidence again, of course, with the help of our Golden Retriever and Doberman too.
A family then come to visit her, but will they want to adopt her?...

00:00This is our rescue puppy Rusa meeting our dogs for the first time.
00:04Four weeks later a family came to visit her for a possible adoption
00:08but they had a dog already so Rusa would need to get her confidence back to be able to get
00:13on with
00:13their dog. It's been a long journey to get there and it all started on day one. When we first
00:20took
00:20Rusa into the house she was terrified. I've never seen a dog's tail touched so far into their legs.
00:25We didn't want to overwhelm her so we let her go around the house in her own time.
00:29I just sat down to let her know it's safe and that she won't be forced to do anything.
00:44We wanted to make sure she felt comfortable in the house before meeting Kobe
00:48and we knew she definitely had to feel comfortable for when she meets Moki.
00:59Good girl. Come on, good girl.
01:05Oh, sorry darling. You want to go out?
01:09She might need a wig. I wish she's shaking a little bit.
01:13Rusa.
01:18Good girl. There you go. Come on.
01:27And then she started showing one or two signs that she was beginning to relax a little bit.
01:32She was happy to explore but was still very careful.
01:36Oh, it's alright Rusa, it's a bird.
01:40You must have heard birds before.
01:42I didn't get you.
01:44All of a sudden, she started showing us some love and affection too.
01:48She started to show signs of trust already.
01:53Come on in. Come on in.
01:55Come on in.
01:57Wow.
01:58You're so cute.
01:59I'm a brave girl, aren't you?
02:01I'm done.
02:01Wow. You're adjusting quickly, aren't you?
02:04This was great news because it meant we could introduce her to Kobe soon.
02:08Her tail.
02:08Her tail's out a lot more now.
02:13She's so affectionate.
02:17She looks much happier already which is amazing.
02:20She's only been here for about 10 minutes and that tail is not tucked in between her legs anymore.
02:24And as you can see, she loves fuss and attention.
02:27Oh, Rusa, you're going to fit in perfectly here.
02:29We set up a crate for her so it can be her little safe space.
02:33And just when we thought she was starting to come out her shell, she shut down and hid herself by
02:38the sofa.
02:39A reminder that this poor puppy has really been through it.
02:47But she was definitely a lot more relaxed, so it was time for her to meet Kobe.
03:07Not surprisingly, Kobe was so calm with her and is the perfect dog to meet for a rescue puppy.
03:13Rusa still needs to meet Moki too, but first, these two had more bonding to do.
03:18This is good.
03:19This is good, yeah.
03:21And she sees you as a safe space.
03:28Kobe does these playful growls that Rusa wasn't too sure about.
03:31Oh, no, no, no.
03:38No, no, no.
03:43Oh, no.
03:43You got confidence.
03:44Good girl, good boy.
03:47It's all right, Chassela.
04:01that probably went as good as it could have well now it's time for the big crazy doberman
04:07mokey good girl Rusa is that your little sister good girl mokey playful bell mokey must have
04:29let's grab mokey i think she's too much too much mokey wants to play i think Rusa is backing her
04:39tail though
04:43mokey did have one little moment where she got too excited but she did so well with her
04:49soon Rusa is going to meet with mokey and kobe at the same time but first they had more bonding
04:55to do
05:00good girl Rusa Rusa is very brave mokey of course wants to play
05:09and then Rusa started showing some signs of bonding with mokey they're both puppies so i'm not surprised they started
05:15bonding so quickly
05:20and now all that was left was for Rusa to meet both kobe and mokey at the same time
05:45i can't believe how quickly she adjusted to our dogs but she is still nowhere near ready to potentially being
05:50adopted
05:53she's still clearly on edge and has a long way to go
05:57we were coming to the end of our first day with Rusa and we set this crate up for her
06:01in our room
06:02so she didn't feel like she was being abandoned again
06:04she seemed like she was beginning to trust us already which is amazing
06:07so we brought her into our bed to see how she would react and she did this
06:12we had fully prepared ourselves to not show too much affection and overwhelm the dog
06:16but she was loving it
06:18it felt so rewarding knowing that she felt comfortable enough to even roll on her back
06:25we placed her in the crate with some water left the door open and that was probably the best a
06:30first day could get
06:31but the second day wasn't so easy
06:34the morning of day 2 Rusa woke up looking a bit overwhelmed
06:37she looked like she didn't really know where she was and didn't want to leave her crate
06:41come on
06:42Rusa come
06:43come
06:43come
06:43come
06:45good go
06:46good go
06:47yes
06:49aww
06:50wappens
06:50you can do it
06:53you can do it
06:55you can do it
06:57aww it's ok
06:59she wasn't so sure but we did manage to get her to feel comfortable enough to come downstairs
07:06i'm not taking you anywhere
07:07good go
07:08Kobe and Moki were taken on a walk at this point. Rusa's reaction was adorable when they came back
07:13But before that she's got her breakfast to eat
07:15We got her a slow feeder, but quickly realized she doesn't need a slow feeder. The dogs then came back
07:21from their walk
07:21And this was her reaction
07:35Today was all about making sure Rusa feels as comfortable and safe as possible
07:39We do have a goal of taking her on a walk by day 7
07:42And we'll be training her later on in the video to help her get there
07:45We didn't want her to do too much and next thing you know, she starts playing with Moki
07:49It made me so happy to see that they were bonding already
08:01This is where we honestly think we have the two perfect dogs to foster puppies
08:05Moki is the crazy best friend to play with and Kobe is the calm, chilled out dog who will correct
08:11them if they need it
08:12Is she silly Rusa?
08:16Oh, she got the savings!
08:21What did she do?
08:23What did she do?
08:25What did she do?
08:35This is amazing to see because it means that hopefully Rusa will get on with her potential new adopters dog
08:40Now she was getting a bit more comfortable
08:43On day 3 we can start to see some of the problems Rusa has
08:46Anytime she hears or sees something she doesn't recognize she barks like mad
08:51She did this again when the dogs were outside which I found a bit strange
08:54But I think she thought they were trapped because when I let them in she was so happy to see
08:59them
09:03In day 4 we'll show you another problem Rusa has but before that it's time to make sure she's up
09:09to date with her worming and fleas
09:11And the dogs even started moving a bit more like a pack which is great to see
09:15I could tell she was starting to trust Kobe and Moki because in the morning of day 4 she went
09:20downstairs to see them and I've never seen her so happy
09:34Kobe does these playful growls and she was really scared of them at first but I think it's safe to
09:39say she's gotten used to them now
09:49We then see Rusa's other problem begging for food
09:53Not that big a deal as we can easily train it out of her
09:56Speaking of training it was time to start her training to go outside
10:00Rusa hasn't been on a walk for weeks and struggled with confidence around the front door because she thought she
10:05was getting taken to go to another home
10:07So we're just going to get her used to being around the front door and having a leash on
10:11We want to do really slow baby steps here and only progress when she's ready
10:21Oh big stretch
10:22It's really important for Rusa to be able to go on walks because I'm sure Rusa's potential adoption family would
10:28look for this when adopting a dog
10:30In day 5 we wanted to progress her training and we needed the help of our two dogs to do
10:35this
10:35So Rusa is going to go outside for the first time in weeks
10:38She's going to be absolutely frightened but we have a plan
10:41We bought a carrier just like this for Moki when she was a puppy
10:44It helped introduce her to the world without getting overwhelmed by it
10:47We thought this would be perfect for Rusa
10:49We're going to take her out with Kobe and Moki and they're going to show her that there's nothing to
10:53be scared of outside that front door
11:03She's a bit unsettled but Kobe would come and check on her to make sure she's okay
11:07She was taking in all these new smells and watching the dogs play which was great
11:18I even stood there to let her take in all the car noises too
11:25And then as we were walking a kind lady stopped us to pet Rusa
11:29This was a great test to see how she would react to a stranger on a walk
11:34Rusa she's from Ukraine
11:36She's about 6 to 7 months
11:38She did amazing with her
11:40She's super chilled out
11:41This is great news because it means that hopefully she'll have the confidence to walk to this field by day
11:477
11:48In day 6 we slowly introduced her to the outside world but only onto our drive
11:52She can also go back into the house at any time if she wants
11:56She probably felt really comfortable outside because Rusa is subscribed to the channel
12:00If you could too that would be amazing
12:02Good job
12:05She did so well
12:07I think she's definitely ready to go on her first ever walk tomorrow
12:10Good job
12:10Well done
12:13Well done
12:14Well now it's time to see if all the training we've done has actually worked
12:18Because we're going to try and walk her from our house over to the fields
12:22Of course we're bringing along Kobe and Moki
12:25Rusa will feel much safer if she's with her pack
12:38Good boy
12:40Come on Rusa
12:42Come on Rusa
12:43Good girl
13:04We took Rusa on lots more walks over the next week and then on the second week of having her
13:10we decided to really test how she would be going into a new home
13:13It's hard to forget what she was like when she first went into our home
13:16So we rented an airbnb by the beach for her first vacation
13:20Hopefully she doesn't shut down
13:23We're going to let Kobe and Moki go in first and then we'll let Rusa in
13:27Come on
13:31Good dogs
13:35Lots of new things to smell Kobe's
13:37Good boy
13:39Come on what's going
13:40Kobe come on
13:41What's going
13:45Kobe come on
13:46Kobe come on
13:47What's this
13:48And then it was time for Rusa to come in
13:51I really hope she doesn't shut down because it's a new place
13:55Good girl look
13:57Shut the dog
13:58Wait you need toilet Ru come on
14:00You need toilet
14:00Come on Rusa
14:02Cameras
14:03Good girl
14:04Look she's fine
14:07Grab me Moki
14:10Look she just wants to go explore
14:12I can't believe how fine she is
14:14Is it
14:15She wasn't scared I think because she saw all of us
14:17Yeah
14:18She just wasn't really worried
14:19Come on Rusa alright
14:22Come on
14:22Good girl
14:24Moki
14:25Moki
14:25Moki
14:26She's trying to eat the seashells
14:28Rusa felt right at home
14:29She wasn't scared at all
14:31Which shows how much progress she's made
14:33But this was only the beginning
14:34This airbnb is right next to an old town
14:36And Rusa has never been to a town centre full of people, cars and other dogs before
14:41So let's see how much she's really progressed
14:45We started off with Rusa in a carrier
14:47It's a lot of new stimulation for her
14:49And we wanted to set her up for success
14:51It's amazing just how far Rusa has come
14:53Because she was thrown away in a cardboard box next to a motorway
14:57During the cold winters in Ukraine
14:59She really had to learn to trust again
15:02Rusa was taking everything in
15:04We even managed to stop off at this castle
15:06Which exposed her to even more weird and wonderful things
15:16But we've got a big test coming up for Rusa
15:18We found this cute little ice cream shop
15:20And thought this would be the perfect time to sit down with Rusa
15:23And let her out her carrier
15:27She was feeling pretty tense and unsure
15:30She didn't want to move away from her carrier
15:31But eventually managed to take cover under Moki
15:35Good girl
15:39Her tail was really tucked into her legs
15:41You can see how nervous she's feeling
15:43That's adorable
15:44Moki literally looks like her protector
15:46But then she starts to get curious
15:48And felt brave enough to start wandering around
15:57This was an amazing step in the right direction
15:59And gives her the best possible chance
16:01Of her being adopted by her new family coming to visit
16:05She even got her first dog ice cream
16:07Which she was obsessed with
16:08And don't worry
16:10Kobe and Moki got one too
16:11Things are progressing nicely
16:13But she still got another major test
16:15Remember this is an Airbnb right by the beach
16:17So how will Rusa get on with all the sounds and stimulation
16:20That comes with the beach?
16:22We put Rusa in the carrier again
16:24Because it seemed like this worked really well for her
16:26And she could see Kobe and Moki enjoying the beach
16:29And there was nothing to be afraid of
16:41And then it was time to give her the choice
16:43Did she want to get out the carrier to explore?
16:48Good girl
16:50Wow
17:01Good girl
17:03She's loving it look at her
17:05Come on Moki yeah
17:12Good girl
17:14Oh my god
17:17Hello
17:17Oh man
17:18It's so nice to see her loving her life this much
17:21She's come so far in only two weeks
17:23But all the progress she's made can so easily unravel
17:26Because we're fostering another puppy
17:28Oh good girl
17:32Oh good girl
17:33Good girl
17:36Good girl
17:38Oh good girl
17:40Hello
17:44Oh good girl
17:51Hello
17:55Oh good girl
17:57Oh good girl
17:58Good girl
17:59Oh good girl
18:00She's shaking as well
18:01Yeah she'll be nervous
18:02She knows the smell
18:03This is adorable
18:05Foster meets Foster
18:06Yeah
18:09Good girl
18:12Good girl
18:13Well done
18:15She's like oh we can play
18:20It was a pretty tense first meeting
18:23but it didn't take them long to realise they're both safe with each other.
18:30Nice.
18:32Come on, Risa!
18:33Come on!
18:35Oh, that is adorable.
18:37Oh!
18:50My mum's watching for the winter.
18:51Yeah.
18:53Come on.
18:55These two bonded pretty much instantly and it shows how far Risa has come,
19:00from being the scared and unsure rescue puppy to helping another rescue puppy settle in.
19:05Risa did get comfortable a little too quick though.
19:09Risa, Risa no, Risa no, no, no, no, no, no.
19:12Over the next week, these two became best friends and we exposed Risa to even more things.
19:18She had her first shower, she played with all our dogs.
19:24We even looked after another dog which Risa welcomed really well.
19:28All of this was really important progression for Risa because on day 30, her potential new
19:34family came to visit her.
19:37Allison and her family were interested in adopting Risa.
19:41Risa, this is the first time Risa has seen new people in her house.
19:45But because of all the desensitisation she's been through over these past four weeks,
19:49she did amazing with everyone.
19:58Allison was really interested in adopting Risa,
20:01but there was one final test Risa still needed to pass and that was meeting their family dog,
20:06like Billy.
20:08Oh my god, he's beautiful.
20:11He's like Billy.
20:13Do you want me to just take one?
20:15Otherwise you're going to get down.
20:16I got it, I got it.
20:17Good boy.
20:18Yellow.
20:20He's a gorgeous colour.
20:21Aww.
20:22I feel friendly.
20:24Aww.
20:27He's having a good sniff mode.
20:28Yeah.
20:29Risa was looking pretty uncertain, her tail was tucked way into her legs.
20:34We're praying that all her progress wasn't going to come undone here.
20:37So we got walking with all the dogs to try and ease the nerves a bit.
20:43She's curious about it.
20:45Risa did get a chance to show off how comfortable she's gotten with new dogs though.
20:53She started to show signs of opening up and then did this.
20:58Oh really?
20:59Yeah.
20:59Oh good girl, Rui.
21:02Billy's like fuck, her breath stinks of it.
21:05Oh good girl.
21:06Aww.
21:07Good girl, Rui.
21:10That's adorable.
21:17Good girl, Rui.
21:25After Allison and her family saw these two getting on already, it's no surprise they decided
21:30to go ahead and adopt Rusa.
21:32We took her home knowing she only had a couple days left with us.
21:36This is always the hardest part when they leave.
21:38But what an incredible transformation she's gone through.
21:41I feel like a proud foster parent.
21:43She can now go on and live out the rest of her life with her new family.
21:48And that she did.
21:49Because we've been getting updated from Allison and it brought a tear to my eye.
21:53Seeing her living her best life.
21:55We will never forget you, Rusa.
21:57Hey, why not watch another video?
21:59This video on screen has been chosen by YouTube for you to watch next.
22:02Hopefully see you there.
22:03Bye bye.
