00:00We've never had a rescue this scared before. This is Luna, she's six years old and today

00:05she's going to be meeting our entire pack. We spent the last three weeks trying to help Luna

00:13come out her shell. She's been on an incredible journey and it all started when we first picked

00:18her up. So this is the first time we met Luna. We could tell from the jump she was really

00:24unsure

00:25of everything and just really really scared. She had to get carried to the car because she

00:34was too frightened to walk. And when we arrived back at ours you could see just how unsure she

00:41is of everything. Honestly I was a bit worried about picking her up out of the car, I wasn't

00:49sure if she would bite me or not. You could see she tried to run off straight away, she's a

00:56huge flight

00:57risk. I tried to take her towards the house but she wasn't having any of it. So I just took

01:09my time

01:09with her, got down to a level and gave no eye contact. But we did eventually manage to get her

01:14into the house. Frozen in fear, we took everything at her own pace.

01:22This is a house. I'll explain later why Ella says that. This is Luna's first time in a house for

01:29years.

01:33She's like this is my crib. Thank you. Yeah that's for you Luna. We're really proud of her. She didn't

01:40completely shut down and is brave enough to explore. We sat down so we were at her level and just

01:46let

01:46her do her thing. She's already really overwhelmed so we didn't want to add to that. She even stopped

01:57off to have a drink and honestly drank like the entire bowl. Bless her she was so thirsty. We could

02:03see her sniffing for some food so we offered her treats. She then even showed some interest in us for

02:08the first time. We then took her outside to sniff the garden. Like I mentioned earlier she's a huge

02:26flight risk and even though we have six foot high fences it was pitch black outside and we didn't

02:31want to risk losing her. She had a pee, we went back inside, she had a sniff of the puppy's

02:36pen and then

02:41So it looks like we've got a little counter surfer. Ella said ne because Luna is from North Macedonia

02:47and we think that's how you say no in Macedonian. If we're wrong please let us know in the comments.

02:54After spending some time letting her decompress and trying to give her some broccoli,

02:58it's time for Luna to meet her first dog, our gentle boy Kobe.

03:16So the rescue that we got Luna from thinks she's around six years old. She's by far the oldest dog

03:21we have ever rescued. Luna has had a really rough life. The first shelter she stayed at took advantage

03:27of donations. They pocketed it for themselves and left the dogs starving. You could see here how bad

03:33Luna's teeth are. Apparently she was trying to eat rocks to survive.

03:46She's not really fast. You could see she wasn't entirely comfortable around Kobe and we didn't

03:53want her to feel trapped so we just gently moved Kobe away and then sat down to give her some

03:57space.

04:00So that went okay, no fights which is the most important thing. Well now it's time for Luna to

04:05meet our overly excited mini horse, Moki.

04:32Luna was being very wary of Moki and although

04:35doesn't seem like she's not that interested in her, we think she was just really stressed.

04:49We kept taking Moki away just so Luna didn't feel too overwhelmed.

05:10You can see I had an air horn at the ready just in case anything happened.

05:21Moki then of course completely misreads the room but we did manage to get her to be nice and calm.

05:27So I wouldn't exactly say all the dogs are best friends but that's fine as long as there's no

05:30fights it's a good start. We then brought Kobe into the room so Luna could meet them both at the

05:35same

05:35time.

05:50Kobe's being very gentle and polite with her it's almost like he knows what she's been through.

05:55Luna still has two more dogs to meet our tiny puppies Bonnie and Olive.

06:10The girls are like who are this?

06:12Luna was really unbothered by the pups after Moki decided that Luna stinks.

06:25We then started doing some positive training with her lead.

06:29We wanted to take her outside again but didn't want her to be scared.

06:37Good girl, there you go. Good girl.

06:43And then we started doing normal everyday things around the house.

06:46As much as I wanted to cuddle Luna and tell her everything's going to be okay,

06:50the best thing to do was to let her decompress from everything she's just been through.

06:54We then introduced her to her bed. I put some treats inside and to my surprise she went straight

06:59in and laid down. We wanted to give her lots of positive association here,

07:03so I also gave her more treats when she was inside.

07:08After having the sleep of her life, Luna then showed me a tiny glimpse into her personality.

07:16What are you doing? Oh, what a lady.

07:26Don't buy the sofa. Oh, you're an itchy face.

07:37After showing a bit more interest in the pups and making herself feel at home,

07:41and then slept in the spare room with her for the night.

07:53She's definitely been hit in the past and it makes me really sad to see her react this way.

08:00A few days have passed and honestly, not a whole lot happened. Luna would stay at the top of the

08:05stairs,

08:05the puppies would be puppies, and then we noticed she would stay outside a lot, just sitting there.

08:10She came from a shelter where they have 80 dogs, and sadly, Luna had been there for over three years.

08:16Nobody wanted her. That's why we decided to take her. She just needed a chance.

08:21It made me really sad when I saw Luna curled up in a ball trying to sleep outside.

08:25It's just what she was used to, but took her inside because she doesn't need to do that anymore.

08:30For the first time in years, she now has a warm home she can sleep in.

08:38After Luna felt a bit more comfortable with us, it's time to address the problems she has.

08:49The first being really bad separation anxiety. This is quite common with rescues.

08:53You can see how badly she would howl when we left the house.

09:05When we came home, she would be really happy we were back, but we made sure to ignore her.

09:10And so the training started to help her with her separation anxiety.

09:14The first step was just to get her used to the front door. We would leave for 20 seconds,

09:18and then come straight back in. The goal here was for Luna to stop associating the front door with us

09:24being gone.

09:24We repeated this over and over again, until she lost interest in us leaving.

09:35You can see this was already working. We paid her no attention when we came back in,

09:40so that it didn't feel like a big deal that she was alone for a little bit.

09:43Most importantly, there was no howling or freaking out from her, which was a perfect start.

09:48To progress this, we gradually increased the time we left her alone.

09:51We left Luna alone here for three minutes, but would she cry or howl?

10:04Nothing, no cries or anything, which was amazing. She was doing really well.

10:09So now it's time for Luna to enter the final stage of her training.

10:12We're gonna leave her with some treats and leave her for 10 whole minutes.

10:15Yes, we even timed this, and we would really be gone. But question is, would this be too much for

10:21Luna?

10:24Me and Ella went to the shops. It was actually quite nice to finally be out of the house together

10:28for once.

10:29Luna was busy at home cleaning up the fish we left her, but what's gonna happen once that's finished?

10:46She did it! Some little cries here and there, but what a difference. We're so proud of her.

10:51So onto Luna's next problem, she's kinda scared of the lead. We have gotten to a point where we can

10:56now place the lead on her,

10:58but now it's all about getting her used to it. The motivation behind this is we're gonna take Luna on

11:03her first walk in years.

11:04Yeah, I'm not exaggerating. It's been years since this poor dog has been on a walk.

11:11So we're just trying to do some positive association with the lead, some gentle tugs to see if she will

11:15walk with us.

11:16By the way, can I just say we're not trainers and honestly far from professionals, but we just try and

11:21do our best to help.

11:22I wonder if she's been like dragged on the lead or something before, like maybe when they rescue her,

11:27because she really doesn't like the feeling of being tugged on the lead.

11:31Good girl, well done!

11:34Yes!

11:35It's a little tail wag.

11:36Yeah.

11:37Yeah, yes!

11:43We managed to get her to a point where there were baby steps, but we didn't want to push her

11:47too much at all.

11:48She's already been through so much and is making amazing progress.

11:51She's looking so fed up.

11:53She'll just take this lead off and let me roam around.

11:57Okay, so the time has come, Luna's first walk.

12:00She's been at Arwa's for about two weeks now.

12:02Honestly, we weren't sure she would ever get to a point where we could take her outside,

12:06so let's see how she does.

12:09Good girl, come on!

12:12Yeah! Well done!

12:15She's looking for escape routes.

12:18Good girl!

12:19Oh, we're going to go for a walk-off!

12:22Luna, is that a treat?

12:24No, it's a lot.

12:24Is that enough?

12:25It's alright.

12:27Well, I don't think it's being outside doesn't scare her, it's the lead.

12:31True, yeah.

12:31Try and walk across the road.

12:33Come on, Luna.

12:44I stood there to just let her take everything in.

12:47I honestly was in shock.

12:48She felt so comfortable.

12:50She was even being so good on the lead.

12:52We took the small win and took her back inside.

12:54For the next day, we were going to really test her.

12:57It's so good!

12:59It's well done!

13:01Well done!

13:02Yeah!

13:04We're going to be taking Luna out with Kobe and Moki.

13:07Hopefully, they will give her all the confidence she needs for her first ever proper walk in years.

13:33It's made me so happy, huh?

13:37I thought we were so far away from this.

13:40Honestly, I was grinning from ear to ear the whole time.

13:43Luna has since been on so many walks, growing in confidence more and more each time.

13:48It just goes to show that she needed some patience and some love, and most importantly, a chance.

13:54And whilst everything was going so well, things then took a drastic turn.

14:03We'll go over what's happening at the vets here in a bit.

14:07We continued working on her separation anxiety.

14:10And we've now gotten her to a point where she's like this when we leave the house.

14:14Having Kobe there as her rock is something you'll notice happen quite a lot.

14:18Previously, we had to ignore Luna when we came back into the house.

14:21As hard as this was, it was to help her keep nice and calm and not make a big deal

14:26that we were back.

14:26But now she's completely calm when we leave, we can do this.

14:39It's crazy to see how far she's come with me and Ella.

14:42We paid her little to no attention in the first couple of weeks and would only pet her when she

14:47came up to us.

14:48We didn't want to overwhelm her and figured if she just watched how we interacted with our dogs,

14:53she would eventually realize she's in a loving home.

14:56She's now gone from being this terrified dog with her tail tucked between her legs to this.

15:00I've given her experience.

15:03Hello, Luna girl.

15:05Oh, good girl.

15:07When it was time for Luna's first walk, she was definitely scared.

15:10But once outside, she showed signs of gaining some confidence.

15:14And if we compare her first time outside to how she is now, the difference is crazy.

15:32We've even upgraded her to the long lead and the difference in her body language now makes me so happy

15:37to see.

15:38Come on, Luna girl.

15:46We would even sometimes take Luna on solo walks just to let her sniff everything.

15:51By the way, can I just say that we have done zero lead training with Luna and look how amazing

15:56she walks on her lead.

15:57But we want to help transform Luna into being a confident dog.

16:00So to do that, we need to socialize her with other dogs.

16:03So we've come to a popular dog walking spot to see how she gets on.

16:09And it wasn't long until Luna met her first dog.

16:13She was showing all the right signs.

16:16Her hackles weren't up.

16:17She didn't look timid or shy.

16:18She was actually showing an interest, which is amazing.

16:23She's gorgeous.

16:27She even wanted to get some pets from the nice lady.

16:32And Moki being the crazy Doberman, of course, wants to play.

16:35Good girl.

16:40So we carried on the walk.

16:41Luna was having a great time.

16:43And then we saw another dog.

16:46Kirby was also there just as a little extra support in case she needed it.

16:50She likes the small dogs.

16:53Good girl.

16:54Come on then.

16:56She was doing so well.

16:57She took everything in her stride.

16:59Moki ran around like a headless chicken.

17:01And then the dog meat started coming thick and fast.

17:06I know.

17:09Oh, Moki, no.

17:12Good girl, Luna.

17:15Good girl.

17:35That really went as good as it could have, so we thought she's ready to take it up another level.

17:40We're in a city center.

17:42We want her to get used to being around crowds of people and going into shops.

17:47Luckily, it wasn't that busy today, so it was perfect for a first introduction.

17:51We took Luna into Boots, which is basically a Walgreens if you live in the US.

17:55Probably butchered that pronunciation.

17:56It's pretty normal nowadays for dogs to be going into shops, so we're trying to expose

18:01her to as much as possible as long as she showed she was comfortable doing it.

18:05I think it definitely helps having Kobe there.

18:08Probably gave her more confidence being in her pack and also his calmness,

18:11I'm sure would rub off on her if she was ever feeling unsure.

18:14And she was feeling unsure alright, especially in the first few days with us.

18:18But it's amazing how fast a dog can change if you give them a little love and affection

18:22with a stable pack around her.

18:24I mean, look at her body language here versus when I gave her food last night.

18:28You ready for food, Luna?

18:37We gave her treats that she just loved to chew on.

18:41Even Moki, our dogman with zero chill.

18:52Even she was being all cuddly with her now.

19:00Everything was going so well, until sadly, Luna started acting different.

19:04You could tell she hadn't just shut down again, something was wrong.

19:07She'd also thrown up a few times so I took her to the vet for the first time.

19:11I had no idea how Luna would act going to the vets.

19:16I'm just going to take this, click this arm and it's just dropping in and out of her heart for

19:21some reason.

19:22Amazingly, she was so good.

19:24Took everything in her stride, but the news wasn't so good.

19:27Luna's heartbeat sounded off, so they took her in for an ECG scan.

19:30Good girl.

19:37This measures her heartbeats.

19:39The results came back and she had some irregular heartbeats.

19:42It could have been a number of things.

19:44She had an ear infection and was ill, so this could be why.

19:47Luna also has really bad teeth.

19:49That bad teeth and gums could be sending bacteria into her bloodstream and affecting her heart.

19:55Or it could be the early signs of her heart disease, which we were praying it wasn't.

19:59She was given an anti-sickness jab and got sent home with some antibiotics and some eardrops.

20:05This all came at the hefty price of over 400 pounds.

20:08Ouch.

20:10And we're going to be taking her back to the vet later on for another ECG test to see if

20:14her heartbeat is still irregular.

20:16Luna's already been through so much and it just wouldn't be fair if she had a heart disease.

20:20We did try and offer her some food, but no surprise, she didn't take it.

20:31We just felt so bad for her, but we were hoping it was just an illness.

20:35So as we wanted her to get over the illness as quick as possible,

20:38the first thing we did was her eardrops.

20:46Luckily the next day she was already starting to act like herself.

20:49Hopefully this is a sign for good news when we go back to the vets.

20:54Oh, you look so much better today, don't you?

20:58I see that waggy tail.

21:01Yeah, I see that waggy tail, Luna.

21:05We also started her antibiotics.

21:08We had to cover them in cheese and honestly was so hard to make sure she actually ate the tablet.

21:34She did eventually eat it and we gave her some cheese as a reward too.

21:38Just look how gentle she is.

21:51Because she was feeling better, it meant we could continue Luna's transformation into

21:55becoming a confident dog again.

21:57When we first got Luna, you could tell she has likely been hit in the past.

22:01When we went to pet her, she flinched.

22:03But she's definitely starting to trust us because you can see how good she is now.

22:07With her newfound confidence, we thought it was important to show Luna how loved she is.

22:19So, the last time Luna was in a car, well, she was actually in the back of a van for

22:23three days.

22:24She was driven all the way from North Macedonia to here in the UK.

22:28So we're unsure how she'll react being back in the car again.

22:31So now, we just wanted to get used to being in the car.

22:34Of course, we have Kobe and Moki with us.

22:36They've really helped her throughout her whole transformation.

22:40She was completely fine in the car, which was great news.

22:43All three dogs were happy back there.

22:46We're going to be taking Luna to the vets tomorrow

22:49and really hope she doesn't have any underlying issues.

22:52But today is a well-needed pamper day for her.

22:55I'm not sure when the last time would have been where she got washed.

22:58And I'm also not sure how much she's going to enjoy this.

23:00But it's time for her first groom in probably years.

23:03Good girl, Luna.

23:06It's okay.

23:47So now Luna is nice and clean it's time to take her to the vet she's come so far and

23:52her transformation has been amazing she's a completely different dog we're just praying

23:57now that she doesn't have any serious problems before she gets her heart check Luna has drew

24:05claws which look like they haven't been cut in years they were starting to curl they'd grown so

24:10long we didn't want to cut them and hurt her so our lovely vet did it for us and now

24:14the big moment

24:15does she still have an irregular heartbeat she was such a good girl and stood really still whilst

24:21the vet had a long listen and normal the vet checked the heartbeat against her other pulses

24:27and everything sounded as it should we were so relieved she had started acting so much like

24:32herself again Kobe and Mogi were thrilled too we only had one last thing to do and that was to

24:37celebrate by taking Luna to the pet store for the first time about two weeks had passed and we

24:44finally found Luna a forever home they were amazing and patient with Luna and seeing her tail wagging like

24:50that really brings a smile to our faces because it just shows how far she's come it was time to

24:55say our

24:55goodbyes we're really gonna miss Luna but just like that Luna's journey with us is over but her

25:01journey is just beginning we've been getting updates from our new owners and they said she's

25:06getting on amazing we're so glad Luna got another chance at life hope you enjoyed the video why not
