00:00I keep hearing this idea can the Browns be picky and the Browns be picky with Soresby and it's like
00:04guys I I think about the Soresby situation it's pretty simple for myself uh if you have a
00:09quarterback that could in any sort of way satisfy the quarterback need that this team has you have
00:15to be exploring that you have to be going down that road the idea that we could just turn our
00:18nose up and say not good enough as if we have a plethora of awesome quarterbacks hanging out
00:23it's just not true yeah it's what it's honestly what's made me laugh the most is when I hear
00:29people say well where would it fit in the quarterback room because you've got Deshaun
00:34Watson and Shador Sanders and Dylan Gabriel and Talon Green and it's like well what do you mean
00:38where would he fit like he's he could be today better than almost all of those names in that
00:47quarterback room so he fits in there because they don't have a great option right now like I don't
00:53know if you guys have ever heard of the age-old John Madden adage that's been repeated on this
00:58station since it was incepted that when you have two quarterbacks you have zero so the fact that
01:05they're letting this Watson versus Sanders competition bleed into the summer it kind of tells me we don't
01:12have a long-term solution at franchise quarterback and that's potentially what Brendan Soresby could be
01:19in this yeah I've said a lot of people you guys know that I like Shador you like Shador as
01:24well but
01:24at this point after watching him play last year and again it's unfair the situation he was put in
01:29we can do all that type of stuff but like it's on it's on Shador then to show us that
01:33he's a
01:33franchise quarterback there's no there's no guarantee Shador is that guy it's on him to show us that
01:38so part of that is you have to play with the assumption that he won't that has to be your
01:42understanding has to be that first and foremost so I I don't know why Shador I don't know why
01:46Deshaun I don't know why any of these quarterbacks would make you think like you don't have to
01:49at least do the homework on Soresby and figure out if he can be an option you said it I'm
01:53a Shador
01:53fan I was so happy when that when they made that pick in the fifth round I thought he should
01:58have
01:58been in front of Dylan Gabriel last year just based off of definitely common sense but but I'll say
02:05this JP he he right now he's in a competition with a guy that hasn't been good at football since
02:12before the COVID pandemic we're talking about things that were a long time ago it was a long time
02:17according to Daryl that's like half your life dude and and like according to NFL terms that's
02:22like a generation of NFL football ago when Deshaun Watson was good and when he led the league in
02:27passing and he even admitted last week I'm not even trying to get back to being the guy that led
02:32the
02:32league in passing I'm just trying to stay healthy for a full 17 games and if Shador can't even beat
02:37out that guy then I think we know the current state of at least how the Browns view Shador Sanders
02:44yeah and there's this other side of things that pop up it's like would the Browns be doing Todd
02:48Munkin a disservice after everything Todd Munkin said are you you putting Todd Munkin in a bad spot
02:55with Soresby this is Mary Kay Cabot she was on earlier today in the morning show is what she had
02:59to say Todd also has plenty of say in who he's going to get to coach at the quarterback position
03:05and if he feels that strongly about it I really highly doubt that Andrew would sort of just go rogue
03:11and and put in a bid and drop him into the room and throw that gasoline onto the fire of
03:16that
03:16quarterback room so no I do not see it happening and once again I think Todd probably had some
03:22inside intel when he made those comments I don't think he just was out there saying slippery slope
03:28for no reason all right respectfully and you know I think highly of Mary Kay obviously this isn't that
03:32Mary Kay this is more the idea though that uh I'm sorry like I don't think Todd Munkin's going to
03:37have the final say in this I don't I've got no impression that he does so I disagree with that
03:42sentiment but more importantly I I don't see why Andrew Barry would be dismissive I don't know why
03:48any GM would be dismissive of Soresby I made the case yesterday all 32 GM should at least put a
03:53bid in
03:54if that if that bid if you have Mahomes on your roster Nick if that bid ends up being a
03:58six-round
03:58pick then at least you put it in right with the idea that everybody else said he's not worth it
04:02and you
04:02could have gotten a first-round pick for a six-round exactly right and then you're trading them and then
04:06you
04:07prove to everybody that he doesn't have a gambling addiction or he's not going to relapse or whatever
04:10everybody's a value perspective I just don't know how you do this job and think to yourself I won't
04:14at least submit an offer well didn't we get reports that at least all 32 NFL teams are going to
04:19the
04:19high school where he's going to go do this pro day so like that's the ilk of quarterback that we're
04:24talking about we're like the Chiefs who have won the Patriots who have won like all these teams
04:28that have them are gonna go check him out and just do their diligence on him also too I don't
04:34know that I
04:34believe that Todd is so like in love with Watson and Sanders the way that he leads on like this
04:40was a
04:41guy that was coaching Lamar Jackson a couple months ago yeah I have to imagine that he sees
04:46some maybe maybe put that in proper perspective though maybe he's like if I compare everyone to Lamar
04:52I'm gonna have a really bad time because no one really compares to Lamar yeah maybe yeah I mean I
04:58just
04:58thinking about like from a practical standpoint or that or he's really trying to sell this Watson
05:03versus Sanders things to us and I think that's more in line with what it is yeah it's funny I
05:07don't think he's been asked directly uh because I think people just think it'd be an unfair question
05:11to be like so how does Deshaun Watson compare to Lamar Jackson and and where where is the one for
05:16one comps because he couldn't say it with a straight face with a straight face he can't be like
05:20oh they're I mean that's that would be neck and neck that would be a close one he couldn't say
05:24that it's a it's a lose-lose situation for Munkin but how honest would he be in that moment I
05:30wouldn't
05:30be the one asking it tell you that we kind of got sidetracked we started talking about class a
05:35and like depending on the day their face will turn green because it makes them sick hearing that name
05:40or their face will turn red because they think about everything they lost out on you mentioned his
05:45name to a teammate like they'll walk away from you it makes them sick you think about Ortiz gets
05:50wrapped up in this it was July 3rd last year class they walked around for three weeks like nothing
05:55was up business as usual meanwhile he knows Ortiz is the guy that he allegedly roped into the whole
06:01scheme trust in a locker room that's the number one thing you have to trust your teammates in every
06:08walk of life and every minute of every day and the second that evaporates the second there are
06:13questions about effort and motive and intent it's gone you don't get that back and so like people ask
06:19like oh well maybe class a will be exonerated and you know he'll be back pitching for the
06:24guardians next season it's like you think he could walk into that locker room you think he
06:27he spiked the slider in 2027 and and what's everyone gonna say did you do that intentionally
06:34like you don't gain that back and I just especially for a quarterback I don't I don't see how that
06:39works that is Zach Meisel earlier today on with the morning show and I can agree with just about
06:44everything he said when it comes to class a and not see how it correlates to Soresby we'll get into
06:49that in just a second here the uh the idea Nick Nick Badone in uh for Nick Wilson today the
06:54idea
06:54though that uh that class a could be like walking around the the clubhouse for three weeks and Zach
06:58was like I and he knew it the entire time it's like what would you want him to do did
07:03you want
07:04him to like like go up to everyone and be like uh hey let me let me tell you what
07:07I did ahead of
07:08time yeah like snitch on himself yeah like what's he supposed to do he's gonna try to play it cool
07:13until until he doesn't have to he's gonna try to play it cool you know and I get where he's
07:17coming
07:17from because like everybody that that feels like the golden concern with this Brendan Soresby thing
07:23here's the difference though Brendan Soresby was more of a Pete Rose situation he was not doing
07:30anything nefarious to dictate the outcome of games he was just putting money on his team to win and
07:37he claims to feel closer to the team because he wasn't well we actually out there on the field
07:42playing whereas class a and Ortiz were intentionally spiking pitches like like it is kind of I get that
07:49it's all under the same gambling umbrella but it is kind of two completely different situations it's
07:55completely different I mean think about it put yourself in the situation Soresby was in and again
07:59based off of all the accounting we have uh when he was betting on games he was involved in he
08:04wasn't
08:05actually even involved in the games he was 18 years old he was like fifth string on Indiana he wasn't
08:10even traveling with the team those are the games that he was betting on and think about where you'd
08:13be at that spot in life and this is now the correlation and where I I think there's some
08:17similarities when class a first ended up in that situation one of the things that I referenced I
08:23just remember doing it I had a boss uh back when I was a server right as a as a
08:27teenager teenager I was
08:29a server and I had this server one like one of the managers at the restaurant tell me one time
08:32they're like Jonathan do you know why people why people steal from restaurants do you know why that
08:36happens and I'm like why and they're like well they only steal from restaurants that they feel
08:40like they're not compensated well on and uh because I was always amazed this restaurant I worked in
08:45in Chicago like did we didn't have thieves we didn't have any sort of theft or anything like that
08:48it's like well why because we pay our guys good nobody nobody thinks they're getting robbed
08:52anytime they go in and do work they think they're doing work getting paid a lot of money
08:56and they're enjoying the job right you steal when you feel like you're being robbed and when you're
09:0018 years old and you're fourth fifth string and you're Brendan Soresby the reason why you would do
09:05this the same reason why class a would have done it in with the guardians making pennies on the dollar
09:10relative to what top closures were making because he signed a deal that was way too premature because
09:14he wanted to get paid money he felt like he was being robbed by major league baseball not being fairly
09:19compensated same thing here Soresby at 18 years old not getting millions in NIL dollars when he thought
09:26he was worth a lot more probably thought he was being robbed probably thought that he was being cheated
09:30by the system and so we play some bets he's also and again I I do hate because I don't
09:37know Soresby
09:37maybe he's a great kid maybe he's a bad kid and maybe we shouldn't be sitting here defending him
09:43but like if he made these bets when he was 18 years old hey guys when I was 18 years
09:51old
09:51in my college dorm room guess what a lot of dumb stuff happened in that room yeah yeah
09:59I mean a lot of stuff that I wouldn't want recanted even a couple years after even when I was
10:0622 years
10:06old I wouldn't want people bringing back I've talked all about the gambling situations I found myself in
10:11in high school I was at the horse track day that's where me and my buddies hung out we went
10:14on at the
10:15horse track and we'd leave the horse track and then we'd go hustle people and money for bowling
10:18you laugh at it but it's true that's my life okay to the point where I've told this story on
10:22the year
10:23before uh I had uh the athletic director at my high school they got called in and we had to
10:29do a
10:29there was like a whole investigation over me and my buddies doing this this this bowling hustling deal
10:34that we did and I'll never forget the guy because he was like he's like listen you have to tell
10:40me that
10:40you weren't betting money on this because if if the IHSA actually believes you guys are taking money in
10:45this the football team is going to get canceled right and their season's going to have all their
10:49losses and you're not you're not gonna be a nice guy around these parts if the football team can't
10:53win games because of you okay and I'm like no we bet on candy bars it was what it was
10:56but like that
10:57was like a there was a real moment there and so like the point is is that at that age
11:01I mean I did a
11:02lot of gambling that I probably wasn't supposed to be doing now who am I to sit here and judge
11:05soarsby in that instance yeah like if it were a classy situation and he was an 18 year old and
11:13he was on
11:13the field in Indiana and he was betting on these games and it it would be different if he was
11:19dictating the outcome of the game you mean if he's like actually throwing passes to cause
11:23interceptions to have his team lose right yeah I'd be much more out on that but I the reason why
11:30I'm
11:30not out on that is because he was 18 I think he made a mistake I I think he's since
11:36admitted said
11:37mistake by going to the gambling treatment thing or whatever more importantly though I'm desperate
11:43I'm as desperate as I've ever been as a Cleveland Browns fan to put an end to this quarterback
11:49search that has been going on for over two decades now and if this guy could be a vehicle to
11:55stop that
11:56search I'm willing to accept the baggage that he comes with because candidly the guy that they're
12:02contemplating starting week one down there in Jacksonville at least in my opinion if we're if
12:07we're comparing situations one-to-one the guy that they're getting ready to start week one in
12:12Jacksonville I don't like what he was accused of a little bit more than what Brandon Soresby well
12:16and so that's the other side of this though is that guy's probably still going to start regardless
12:19whether that's Watson or Chador right this isn't changing that and I think sometimes fans get that
12:24a little confused like I just can't like I can't sit here and pretend to be like the moral higher
12:29ground
12:30when it comes to athletes in this town anymore when I am this desperate is that because of class a
12:35is
12:36that because of everything we went through is there more similarities than maybe I believe
12:40maybe I did that to the class a situation did that shape you in any sort of way towards how
12:44you view some of this stuff no that's where I'm at it didn't change me at all no I because
12:50there
12:50are two completely very very different situations and people that try to say like in Cleveland
12:57especially after everything that we just went through last year with class a and Ortiz and it's like
13:02this isn't the same situation it's apples and bowling balls in my opinion it's not even close and
13:07then the other side of that the other side of this with Meisel you know he mentions like oh we
13:11want you break that trust in the locker room all right Sorsby in that locker room is not the same
13:16locker room that he's going into in an NFL locker room this isn't this isn't like they're sending
13:19him back to Cincinnati to go play football and he's got a he's got to face all those guys and
13:23none of that is happening Joe Royer who is the one guy on in this already went to bat for
13:29already has said he's a he in his mind he's a first round pick and we had any of his
13:34speaks for
13:34itself we had any of his teammates come out and say like what a bad guy he is or how
13:38much they
13:38don't like him or what a trouble this was like I I haven't heard any of that and I tend
13:42to believe
13:42that if you got him in an NFL locker room mixed in with the same and we could throw these
13:47same
13:47situations attached to you you brought up to Sean but you could throw anybody throw Jalen Carter in
13:52there like you can throw any of these names in there and once you get to the NFL it's a
13:56different
13:56story it just is you get a fresh slate a clean slate almost and so as Sorsby I don't think
14:02they're going to look at him and think that he's rigging games some things that he has never done
14:06in his life by the way but even betting on his own games that hasn't happened in three years
14:10yeah that's been a minute like he was 18 when when he you know admitted to doing that and he's
14:1622 years
14:17old now so it is just completely different and that was also two colleges removed I think that's another
14:23factor in this like we never really hurt so all the betting activity happened when he was 18 in
14:28Indiana right and and then the crippling addiction that he supposedly has just never showed up during
14:33his time at Cincinnati never showed up well that was going into Texas Tech so that that was other
14:39bets that were made on other sports and so that did I mean it popped up in the sense that
14:43that like
14:44that that that's documented but it to me it's such a different scenario you're allowed to do that
14:48though you're allowed to do that I don't care if Brendan Sorsby is my starting quarterback I don't care if
14:52he's spending a million dollars on ping pong bets I don't care if he goes into casinos and gambles
14:57unrealized that is one of the things I've been consistent on this with is the the idea I I'm
15:02not convinced that Sorsby will never gamble again but that's not the bet that NFL teams are trying to
15:07make here or not they're not they're not again bad terms we're using bet and gambling attached to all
15:12this but like the bet that they're making is the idea that he won't gamble on games he's involved in
15:16that's what the NFL cares about they don't care if he's Michael Jordan in the eastern conference
15:21finals staying up till five in the morning to gamble outside of New York they don't care about those
15:26things never have never will don't bet on the games you're involved in don't bet on the NFL
15:30and then you can do whatever you want I mean how many videos have you seen this offseason of Joe
15:35Burrow at poker tables like they exist for a reason it's now it's him canoodling with some
15:40a-list celebrities but like they exist for a reason you can do this openly there's no there's no crime
15:45attached to this there's no uh Goodell's not going to come down and slap you in the arm and be
15:49like
15:49why are you hanging out at those casinos you could do all this stuff you made me bet money I
15:53would bet
15:54Soresby gambles at some point again in life the number is like 80 percent of people trying to
15:58break a gambling addiction aren't successful doing it it's a very high number it's one of
16:02the highest relapses you can have as far as an addiction is concerned but that's not what they're
16:06trying to bet on that's not what they're trying to risk on the risk is whether or not he's learned
16:10his lesson about gambling and games he's at least participating in or at least has a heavy
16:15involvement in and Nick I'd give you three years of evidence that he's got the idea that he doesn't
16:20need to do that and that's for them to figure out you know that's for Andrew Barry and his
16:24research staff to go get in the weeds and figure that out the same way that they had to do
16:29for
16:29Deshaun Watson remember when we heard all about that that they hired the private investigator down
16:34there in Texas and they were sniffing around Watson for like months leading up to the trade and all that
16:39stuff like you probably got to revisit that same thing with Brendan Soresby and just make sure that
16:45you feel confident that he would not put himself in a situation where he felt like okay I'm going
16:51to bet on this game that I play in and as long as you feel like he's not going to
16:54do that it doesn't
16:55matter if he's betting on Korean baseball or UFC or any of the wild things that are out there for
17:01him
17:01to bet you could go bet on any of that you just can't bet on the NFL because you're going
17:06to be an NFL
17:07quarterback when this supplemental draft comes and goes
