00:00This is Sean Watson yesterday with his mea culpa with the fans.
00:03The first thing he did was apologize to fans for his frustration,
00:08letting the emotions get the best of them, went a little bit further with it.
00:11Says he understands the fans' frustration.
00:14I know the frustration.
00:16This organization has put a lot of investment in coming to get me back in 22.
00:23And things haven't been going the right direction that we thought it was.
00:26A lot of injuries, a lot of time off, and not putting the best football in my foot forward.
00:31So, again, I understand the frustration.
00:34I understand everything that kind of goes into that.
00:37And moving forward, I just want to focus on football,
00:39making sure that I'm putting the best product out there, having the best ability.
00:43Because I thrive off the energy.
00:44I thrive off the energy of the fans.
00:46I thrive off the energy of the community.
00:48I thrive off all that stuff.
00:50Now, before I say anything, before Lima says anything,
00:53let's let Deshaun get his full say.
00:55He goes further.
00:56Again, my emotions got the best of me.
00:58I'm human.
00:58I take full responsibility of that.
01:00And, you know, just moving forward, I want to make sure that I put the best product for the team,
01:04for the organization, and for this city so we can put a lot of wins
01:06and make sure that I celebrate and put Cleveland on the map.
01:10You know, and that's why I put the helmet on my head and I put the uniform on my body
01:13is to go out there and make sure I put my best foot forward.
01:16And that was one of the reasons why I chose this city,
01:19is to come and have a lot of wins with this community, with this city,
01:22and make sure that we, you know, on the right track so we can have a lot of, you know,
01:26celebrations and a lot of excitement to go each and every Sunday.
01:29So, again, you know, moving forward, you know, I just want to make sure that, you know,
01:32I can give the city something to, you know, think about, you know, in the first two games.
01:36And, you know, when we come back home, that we have something to cheer about
01:39and we can celebrate and go do what we want to do.
01:41And that's achieve the ultimate goal and go win and, you know, be a champion.
01:44All right, E.T. phone tone, the thoughts that you had when he said his apology yesterday.
01:50Yeah, I was coached up and, you know, just needed to do that the first time.
01:54Still wouldn't have been great.
01:55I mean, honestly, like, just wouldn't have had the total blowback that he got all day yesterday
02:01and had basically everybody that follows football.
02:03It was the biggest story in the NFL yesterday.
02:06I did not see that coming after a third quarter appearance in a preseason game
02:12that I told you I was barely going to pay attention to.
02:15After I saw, you know, should or start.
02:17I'm like, all right, they'll just.
02:18No, now they're all must-see.
02:19Who the hell knows what's going to happen Thursday?
02:21Oh, for sure.
02:21For sure.
02:22You even saw it yesterday with every throw that he made.
02:24And he's already been named the starter
02:26and people are still dissecting every single throw in camp yesterday.
02:30Because I can't believe he was named the starter after the type of camp that he had.
02:32Well, the type of camp, I mean, Zach Jackson says he was the better quarterback.
02:37Albert Pereira said he was the better quarterback.
02:39Okay.
02:41Yeah, I'm not ripping Albert or Zach for that.
02:44Unless you're just saying both of them were so brutally bad.
02:47But I think that that's the thing.
02:49I think people are going, man, if neither of them are that great,
02:52then they'd rather just go with the young guy.
02:53We always thought the tie would go to Shador.
02:55Yes.
02:56Boy, were we wrong.
02:57The tie did not go to Shador on this.
02:58So I don't hold grudges well, which is why I get so agitated when some other people do hold grudges,
03:06which we have documented on this show several times over.
03:11I think if one side reaches out, you can reciprocate.
03:16I mean, fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice.
03:19You fooled, you can't get fooled again.
03:21Fool me once, shame on you.
03:24I set that up.
03:24I'm sorry.
03:25Shame on you.
03:27If you fool me, we can't get fooled again.
03:29So, yeah, I feel that way about a lot of stuff.
03:31But there's always an olive branch.
03:33And if you just hold a grudge just once over, I feel it's very petty and it can be childish.
03:41This is where I'm at, though.
03:42It's kind of what you said, not about the coaching up thing.
03:46I can't accept it because I say that people can boo at professional sports events.
03:54We've argued about it way before Deshaun Watson was ever a glint in our eye here in Cleveland.
03:58It's a great city to argue such a thing.
04:00And I said, boo.
04:01Boo all you want.
04:04It's healthier than a lot of ways you could take your frustration out on a player or on a team
04:08that's not doing well.
04:09So, go right on ahead and boo.
04:11Okay, well, I don't have any faith he's going to play well.
04:13So, if he doesn't play well, he's going to be here week three.
04:17And guess what they're going to do?
04:18They're going to boo him.
04:19So, if I accept that and go, hey, let's let bygones be bygones, then what?
04:23Am I going to go after the fans for booing?
04:25No, I'm not.
04:26Because he's probably not going to play very well.
04:29The second thing is, history tells me that, no, I can't do it.
04:35Why?
04:36Because you've had a cavalcade of losers, ghosts of Brown's failures past, go on these podcasts.
04:44Because now you have these player podcasts where they all get together and hold each other over their problems.
04:48That people have no idea or recollection or even care about what their problems are because they don't live that
04:54life.
04:55But they all get together and hold each other over their taxes.
04:57And, oh, I have no idea what players go through.
05:00Like, fans don't care about that.
05:01But they still do it.
05:02And I can see him years from now ending up on some player podcast about how Cleveland did him wrong.
05:10How the fans did him wrong.
05:12They never gave him a chance.
05:13And it affected him and all this other crap.
05:16And I can just see them sitting around a couch and there's two other guys going, yeah, yeah, uh-huh,
05:21yeah.
05:21Yeah, that's the problem.
05:23I'm going, no.
05:23That's what we've heard about Cleveland.
05:25That's what others have said.
05:26I'm not going to do that.
05:27That's not going to happen.
05:28Don't care.
05:29No.
05:30So, I can't do it.
05:32I can't.
05:33That sounds cold-hearted, nasty, but I can only tell the truth.
05:37He's going to go out there.
05:38I don't think he's going to play very well.
05:40I think fans are going to boo him.
05:41I'm not going to rip the fans for booing him.
05:45I just don't.
05:47I just, I can see a scenario where, again, a lot of these guys, they say nice things.
05:54And then they don't end up here after a while.
05:56And then they go on podcasts and they go ripping.
05:58And then I got to sit there and do it to the point where we got, like, I can't keep
06:01talking
06:01about Drunk Johnny, talking about Cleveland, ripping Cleveland.
06:05I can't give any more air to one of the greatest losers in NFL history.
06:09I can just give you more examples of how money can't buy happiness.
06:13Or really, I mean, any sense of non-paranoia.
06:162-1-6-4-7-4-0-0-92.
06:19That being put out, it ain't my choice to start him or sit him.
06:21And he's going to start.
06:22And I guess because he's the starting quarterback of the Cleveland Browns, I've always said it,
06:26I'm going to give him a chance.
06:27And I guess I've got to give him a chance.
06:29Certainly test that theory, but here we are.
06:31Yeah.
06:31And I know we got a ton of phone calls.
06:33We got a lot of thoughts.
06:34And we know this was the topic yesterday in sports, you know, everywhere.
06:39I do wonder, we talked about the honeymoon for Todd Munkin.
06:45You know, from the moment he changed up a little bit of tweak to the training camp reps that one
06:50day.
06:51And then we were wondering if the honeymoon was over because the writing was on the wall at that point.
06:55That, oh yeah, Todd really is probably going to name Deshaun the starter.
07:00Unless something cataclysmic happens.
07:01And then something cataclysmic did happen.
07:03And then he was still named the starter.
07:05Kenny, is there at any part of you whatsoever that is like, we got to trust Munkin if we hired
07:13him to do this.
07:14We got to trust him a little bit.
07:15Because fans have lost complete trust already.
07:17Well, I...
07:18He hasn't coached a game and they've lost complete trust.
07:20I don't understand where they're coming from.
07:22But you wanted him to make...
07:23You hired him to make this decision.
07:25He made this decision.
07:26I think that Kevin Stefanski would have been more apt to just go with Shador Sanders.
07:30But Kevin Stefanski was let go.
07:32He's down in Atlanta.
07:33Todd Munkin has this one chance.
07:34He's going to go with whoever he thinks can help them win.
07:37And he thinks right now that Shador Sanders is...
07:40Operationally, whatever that word means to anybody anymore, that he thinks he's better than him.
07:44So yeah, fine.
07:45I'm going to go ahead and do it.
07:46I mean, I have no reason in any conversations on air off to disbelieve him.
07:51Todd Munkin I'm talking about.
07:53So it's an unpopular move.
07:55I don't think that Todd Munkin wants to go out there and make the fans upset.
08:00But I don't think in the ultimate grand scheme of things, I don't think he cares.
08:04I think that he thinks that he needs to do what's best for his franchise...
08:06For the team he's coaching.
08:08And he needs to go out there and make the best decision.
08:10And I think he thinks the best decision, whether I agree with it or not, is Deshaun Watson.
08:14But I think that they felt that there was no chance he was going to play as bad as he
08:19did
08:19against Buffalo on Saturday and then turn right around 48 hours later and have to name him the starter
08:24right after that dreadful performance where not only did he play bad, he made things even worse
08:28when he went after the fans after the postgame.
08:30In the postgame.
08:32So it's a very unpopular decision.
08:34And I did think for a while that maybe if he did mention him, Todd Munkin would be shielded a
08:41little bit
08:41because there's so many people who believe it's an ownership decision.
08:46We've been over that several times, like we weren't even in the last segment.
08:49That he might get shielded from that.
08:51But I think that that worm has turned.
08:53I think they're just as mad at Todd as they are with anybody else over this situation.
08:57So yeah, he's going to have to deal with it.
08:59But he's an NFL head coach.
09:00That's what comes with the job.
09:01That's what comes with the money is you have to make a tough decision and fans aren't.
09:06You're walking into a tough spot and fans really aren't going to like it.
09:09They're not going to like you because you made that decision.
09:11This is so atypical to how a coach starts out a career as a head coach.
09:17And in fact, yesterday it was all one and done.
09:18Munkin's going to be one and done now because of this.
09:21I mean, this has never happened.
09:22I've never seen anything remotely like this.
09:24And I said yesterday, we're like the Toledo, the test market for the NFL, the craziest stuff
09:30that is ever going to happen is going to happen here.
09:32But even this kind of takes the cake and is something so unique that I don't even have
09:39a playbook for how to react to any of this that I truly do believe that fans are rooting
09:44against their hometown team to start the season.
09:46Well, I guess I got to ask that.
09:482-1-6-4-7-4-0-0-92.
09:50I'm not going to root against them just because I disagree with the decision.
09:53But I think that people are looking at it going, Kenny, I want out of this as soon as possible.
09:57The only way to get out of this is as soon as possible.
09:59The two hosts, Kenny, you're like the most relatable guy in this town.
10:03Why have you guys, why have the seas parted on this topic?
10:07Because my theory, and hey, I'm worried about certain things after what I said last week
10:15and then they went out and booed his face off because I didn't think that a lot of people
10:18in the preseason were going to go out there and boo his face off.
10:21And boy, was I wrong.
10:22So that makes me paranoid and makes me second guess myself, all right?
10:26But I think that there's so many people going, no, enough's enough.
10:29I'm sick and tired of it.
10:31I'm sick.
10:31And I think there's a lot of Browns fans who are tired of the argument between both of them.
10:35I think there's plenty of Browns fans who are out there going, I'm tired of the circus.
10:39I'm tired of the ride.
10:41Enough's enough.
10:42Get me to April.
10:43Get me a quarterback that I can start to throw my lot behind, whether it be Dante Moore
10:47or all the other names that we throw about.
10:49Let me get to that.
10:50Because I think that they want it to fail just so they know if they really want that to happen,
10:54it's not about them being just mad at the Browns.
10:57They've been mad at the Browns before.
10:59They've been really mad at the Browns before.
11:01Spitting, cussing, mad at the Browns.
11:05They want what's best for them.
11:07And I think there's a lot of people after that decision yesterday who said they don't know
11:13how to get out of their own way.
11:14The only thing that's going to fix them is them going out there and failing and then getting
11:21it right in April.
11:22Whether or not they have faith in that, fine, but I think there's plenty of people going,
11:26number one overall is going to fix this.
11:28And that's the only way to do it.
11:29And number one overall, ain't going to get anybody any crazy ideas.
11:33We're not going to bring back the guy who has all the nut jobs as fans, and we're not
11:37going to bring back the guy who's only cost us anguish and cost us draft picks and cost
11:42us a lost generation of football.
11:44That's what I think they're thinking right now.
11:46So it's got to be bad to go that way.
11:48I'm not willing to go forward with that line of thinking.
11:51I don't want them to lose.
11:53I never want them to lose.
11:54But damn, I got to admit, I ain't telling people they're crazy like I have in the past.
12:00Can't do it.
12:02Because I don't want the guy back next year.
12:05Do you?
12:06No.
12:06No.
12:07No.
12:07No, absolutely not.
12:09Like guys, he could go out there and lead them to a Super Bowl and I go, yeah, I'm going
12:12to tag you and I'm going to maybe go after another quarterback.
12:15Like that's where I'm at on that.
12:17So I can't tell any of the guys on the phones going, oh, you're crazy.
12:22No, I, as, as upsetting as it is to me, I can see their logic.
12:28I think.
