00:00Like a quarter of the season, that's not serious, especially if he's allowed to be around the team.
00:04He's just not allowed to practice or play.
00:07But once you get above that is probably when I stop being as comfortable taking Brennan Sorsby in a supplemental
00:13draft situation.
00:14Oh, yeah.
00:15I guess I'm trying to figure out how many games he has to play in order to feel like you
00:18really found out what you could or couldn't do with him, right?
00:22Is that number eight?
00:23Is that number nine?
00:24What is that number for you?
00:26It's probably about half the season.
00:27I think that's when I start to get just because I think so much of his rookie season, if people
00:34view this as like a redshirt season, so much of that's going to be a fact gathering.
00:38Like, how quickly can we get him up to speed without ever letting him step on the field?
00:43And I think the Browns have kind of talked.
00:46They have some proprietary stuff.
00:47They have some technology that allows players to kind of try and get better while they're on the bench.
00:52I still think playing is the best kind of thing.
00:55But I think the Browns might be one of those teams that might have the advantage, but he's got to
01:00be in the building.
01:01He's got to be able to actually take advantage of all the things they have.
01:05Yeah.
01:05I mean, if he's gone for, I don't know, I'd say seven, eight, nine games.
01:11My thing with Sorsby is I want to know what you have in him by the time you get to
01:15the 27 draft.
01:16So if you take him in the supplemental draft, are you taking the 27 draft off the table or are
01:21you still being open-ended or open-minded about that?
01:23Oh, I'm still open-minded.
01:25I am too, but that's also part of the reason why I'd take him in like the third or fourth
01:28round, maybe instead of the first or second.
01:30So it's interesting.
01:31I don't, I still don't know that the rules are clear on this.
01:35Can they take him with their second first round or next year, or does it have to be with the
01:38one they're being?
01:39No, it's their own.
01:39Yeah, it's their own.
01:39So that probably gives me more pause just because if this thing doesn't go well and you have a top
01:46three pick next year and you can't use it because you don't have it anymore because you're spending on Brennan
01:51Sorsby, that's probably what would take me out of the equation for doing it.
01:56But so then, so then maybe I do have a limit on this.
01:59Maybe, maybe I am second round is like the earliest at spend.
02:03Yeah.
02:03I just, I feel like I just don't want to take everyone out of the 27 part of this.
02:07And so, but again, maybe I'm already doubting Sorsby as is, if that's my mentality of like, I want to
02:12see him for seven or eight games is seven or eight games really going to be enough.
02:15I know we talked about it being enough for Shuck.
02:17We've talked about it being enough for Dart and some of these other guys.
02:20He's okay, but what if he has something, maybe not Shador from last year, but something that is, I don't
02:26know, a little bit better than that.
02:28Like, is that, like Caleb Williams was not good his rookie season.
02:30There's a lot of really good quarterbacks that just aren't good their rookie year.
02:33I think it's interesting we're talking about this because the guy that we're about to play the comp for is
02:38somebody that, like, the Giants weren't good last year.
02:41The Giants had the 10th pick in the draft and about, what, half a season of Jackson Dart.
02:47They decided that Jackson Dart's our guy.
02:49I know they spent a first-rounder on him, but that's all it took.
02:53And then, obviously, he had 75 concussions and he plays like a meathead and all that kind of stuff.
02:57But, like, I think it's interesting.
02:58Like, the Giants didn't even have a full season of proof out of Jackson Dart, and they're kind of going
03:05forward with that as their plan.
03:07It was a couple games in, and they were like, all right, we got our guy.
03:09This is the savior.
03:10This is it.
03:10And so, I thought it was interesting.
03:12Joe DeLeon was on with us yesterday.
03:13The first time he's been on since back when the draft was taking place.
03:17And here was the comp he had for Brennan Sorsby.
03:20To a degree, he kind of reminds me of Jackson Dart.
03:22That's probably not the best comp that I could come up with.
03:25But the reason why I throw those comparisons out there, like, the ability to extend plays and the willingness to
03:30extend plays,
03:31the elusiveness in the pocket, like, those types of things.
03:34I think Sorsby's got a better arm than Jackson Dart does, but I think there's a comparison that can be
03:40made in that freelancing style,
03:42but not being, like, an otherworldly elite runner, but more of just a quick player who's got good instincts with
03:48the ball in his hands
03:49and is always going to be able to improvise and make something happen.
03:53So, I think Sorsby's probably more raw than Dart.
03:56I also think Sorsby has a higher upside than Dart.
04:00But, I mean, find me the Browns fan who, right now, because the comp is today and not, you know,
04:07five months from now,
04:08right now, I think if you told Browns fans Brennan Sorsby will be your Jackson Dart,
04:13I think people are willing to take him no matter the gambling stuff.
04:17Yeah, I think for a lot of people, that would signal that you found your franchise quarterback.
04:20That's all we're really searching for at the heart of it.
04:22Now, Dart still has to find answers.
04:24That's where you get to, like, that next level of the Baker discussion.
04:26It's like, well, is he your guy long-term?
04:30Or, sorry, is he your guy for the next 12 years, or is he just the guy for the next
04:33four years
04:33until you have to decide whether or not you want to pay him the big cash?
04:35Well, and I think that's why I kind of love that Joe said Jackson Dart,
04:41because I think there's the, we've got to get a franchise quarterback.
04:45And, yes, every team that doesn't have a franchise quarterback,
04:48no matter if they really love their current starting quarterback,
04:51are thinking, at some point, we've got to do the upgrade.
04:54At some point, you've got to do the Alex Smith to Patrick Mahomes, right?
04:57Yeah, yeah, yeah.
04:58Or you've got to go to the Tyrod Taylor to Josh Allen,
05:01because that's what great franchises do.
05:04Or if you're, like, an elite franchise, I guess you get to go from Brett Favre
05:07to Aaron Rodgers to Jordan Love, and then we're like,
05:10that's Jordan Love.
05:11Sure, he's good, but he's no Aaron Rodgers.
05:13They paid him after, really, what was eight good games of play.
05:16And so, but I, like, I think the Browns, whether it's Shador,
05:21whether it's Deshaun, whether it would be Brendan Soresby
05:24if they took him in the supplemental draft,
05:26I think before we even talk about, okay, is he a franchise quarterback,
05:29it is, do you think the guy can be a starting quarterback in the NFL?
05:33Because right now, you don't have a proven one on the roster.
05:36Yeah, and the Jackson Dart, I guess the comp that kind of scares you a little bit is,
05:39are we saying Jackson Dart in the NFL year one and what he was,
05:42or are we saying Jackson Dart is a college prospect?
05:44Because that is another thing.
05:45Like, as a college prospect, yes, he was taken in the first round,
05:48but he was a highly debated college prospect.
05:51We talked about him for a long time,
05:53and there's a lot of people that didn't believe he should have been a first-round pick.
05:56So I think that's where, so that's kind of where it falls short for me.
05:59I understand that it's like a type that Joe's talking about.
06:04I think Brennan Sorsby has a higher ceiling.
06:07Well, I think he liked, I think the comp that he liked is that he uses his legs a ton.
06:10Yes.
06:11Like Jackson Dart, and he did, I think he had nine rushing touchdowns last year.
06:14Like he, now he's not Lamar, though.
06:16Yes.
06:16And he's not Josh Allen.
06:17He's not one of those guys in that next tier of like,
06:20whoa, this is an all-time great running quarterback, but he does use his legs a lot.
06:24But I think Sorsby has a better arm on him.
06:28And again, I think he's just, I think Sorsby is a natural playmaker.
06:32And Joe thought that too, by the way, the better arm side of things.
06:34He thinks his arm is better.
06:35So I just, it's weird.
06:37Like, and honestly, if you do think he's Jackson Dart to a tee,
06:42that might mean maybe this 2026 season isn't a red shirt.
06:45It is impossible at this point to expect a kid to get taken in the supplemental draft in July
06:50and then walk in and steal the starting job in July.
06:54That's just, that won't happen.
06:55No, not enough time.
06:56But could we see that Shador wins the starting job?
06:58And if you get eight or nine games into the season,
07:01and all of a sudden you're seeing the better player in practice,
07:04like I'm cool if it's a red shirt year with Sorsby.
07:08But again, if it's a much more literal Jackson Dart comp,
07:11and this kid's ready to play eight to nine weeks into the season,
07:14and Shador's not winning, all of a sudden I think that would make sense too.
07:17All right, but what if Shador is winning?
07:20Oh, then it's the best of both worlds.
07:22You get to win, and Jackson, and Brennan Sorsby gets to sit on the bench,
07:27and then you can have that conversation in the offseason
07:30about what do you do with Shador and what do you do with Sorsby.
07:33I mean, because the idea there is that if you're starting Shador,
07:35you have to do so with the thought initially, at least, that he's going to play all 17.
07:39But I would bet Andrew Barry, if he takes Sorsby, would have a different thought on it.
07:43Yeah, I bet Andrew Barry would be like, well, I have to see what he's got.
07:46I've got to see if I'm going to evaluate him up against the 27 draft class.
07:49I've got to find out if he really can be it.
07:51There's a scenario that happens where they try to get a little greedy here,
07:56and it blows up in their face.
07:58I would be really surprised, especially with how we kind of think,
08:02you know, there are people out there that think Todd Munkin's the one and done.
08:04There are people who think Andrew Barry's still in the hopped seat,
08:07despite what the Miles Garrett trade tells you.
08:09I'd be really surprised if they were like 6-3, and they're like, well, we did draft Sorsby.
08:14I'd be really surprised if they were winning, and then you'd turn over the thing to Sorsby.
08:20I think you'd only see Sorsby if we – and honestly –
08:24But where's that line stop?
08:25A good organization – well, it probably – line probably starts the first time
08:31Shador would lose two games in a row.
08:32Oddly enough, I remember us doing this in the Deshaun Watson year with Jacoby Brissett
08:38because by the time we got to Deshaun, it was obvious what they had to do.
08:42But in like week five or week six, there was like a two-week conversation on this station
08:47about whether or not if Jacoby Brissett continues to play –
08:50because at the time, he started off rather all right.
08:53And I think he even finished after the 11 games or whatever it was with really not bad numbers overall.
08:57But in like week five, week six, somewhere around there, it's like, well, hold on.
09:00If they actually turn around and start winning these games, do you go to Deshaun right away?
09:05Do you make that move, or do you let the hot hand ride it out?
09:08Oh, I mean, I'm sure –
09:10That was what Jacoby Brissett had no part of the future on this.
09:12I'm sure as you're saying this that there are people hearing Brian Hoyer and Johnny Manziel in 2014 all over
09:18again.
09:19Because if the Browns had kept winning with Brian Hoyer, you never get tempted to go with Johnny Manziel.
09:25Now, that is 12 years ago.
09:27That is a different organization ago.
09:29But I actually think the temptation would come from Jimmy above all because Jimmy seems to be the impetuous one
09:35that dips down and reaches his hand in the cookie jar more often than not.
09:38But it's interesting.
09:40I mean, the Soresby comp of Jackson Dart, before you can get to a franchise quarterback, you've got to get
09:46good enough.
09:47But if Shador gets to be good enough in the first place, there is –
09:51I know we all automatically go to the worst-case scenario.
09:53There is a cake-and-eat-a-two moment where if Shador can stabilize things and then next offseason you
10:00think Brendan's ready,
10:01maybe you get something for Shador and all of a sudden – or you just have two good quarterbacks and
10:06that's a problem you've never had.
10:08Yeah.
10:09And then we'd be trying to figure out exactly was Shador good enough to keep moving forward.
10:14But I just – there's so many different avenues this can go down.
10:17If Shador is good enough, I wonder how important it would be for them that they had to see Soresby
10:23in like a 7-8-game stretch
10:24and what they would do in order to do that.
10:26Because you piss off a lot of the players.
10:28If they're winning that – if they're winning and Shador looks good but maybe not good enough,
10:32you're going to piss off a lot of guys in the process.
10:34I think because Shador's so young, I'd just be surprised.
10:37When you're dealing with – like in the case of Hoyer, Hoyer was a 30-year-old career backup
10:42and Manziel was your number one pick that – or one of your number one picks that year, right?
10:46Like even Jacoby Brissett versus Deshaun, that was I think a 27-year-old Jacoby, 28-year-old Jacoby versus
10:5426-year-old Deshaun.
10:57This is – it's so rare that you get two young cost-controlled quarterbacks and both of them are –
11:02you know, one's got potentially sky-high upside and the other's actually giving you something on the field.
11:07Yeah.
11:08It's just interesting.
11:09I just – I think so many people instinctively thought that you just give it to Soresby and hang out,
11:13but me and you have been talking about how good we think this team can actually be.
11:16Now we're not going crazy.
11:17I'm saying seven wins, but with the offense and everything, there's a chance it looks better than people think.
