00:00Hello there and a very good morning to you on this Thursday morning which is going to turn stormy across England and Wales.
00:06Disruptive weather coming our way, challenging conditions if you are travelling.
00:11It's all because we have very cold air towards the north, very mild air, subtropical air towards the south.
00:16The clash between two air masses has produced this deep area of low pressure which is tracking towards the UK,
00:23skirting the south coast as we head through Thursday and into Friday.
00:27Those damaging winds causing gusts perhaps even up to 80-90 miles an hour across the far south west.
00:32The risk of that rain turning to snow, so disruption on the roads, the rails, even the ferries and also some airports
00:39as it turns wet and windy across more eastern counties and remains so into Friday.
00:45For the time being it's a frosty start across many northern areas.
00:48We've seen some snow showers and they'll continue off and on as we head through the day.
00:52And then that wind warning kicks in towards the south, turning amber across the far south west gusts here, 80 or 90 miles an hour.
00:59And then this snow arrives.
01:01Now it will arrive in the form of rain, turning to snow as it engages with the cold air.
01:06It continues into Thursday evening and overnight into Friday morning.
01:10And over the higher ground we could see 20, 30 centimetres of snow and even at lower levels where it settles, 5 to 10 centimetres,
01:17extending across Pennine districts.
01:20And then we do have a rain warning across eastern counties of England and that's because the rain will turn more intense
01:25with strong winds as we head through Thursday night and into Friday.
01:30So wherever you are you need to check your routes if you're travelling and if you're stepping outside watch out for high waves
01:36particularly across more southern and eastern areas as those winds continue to strengthen and extend eastwards.
01:42If you're stepping out first thing this morning, a few snow showers across the far west of Scotland,
01:49rain and snow across the coastline there and just clipping the far north of Northern Ireland.
01:54It's cold with some freezing fog patches, a severe frost overnight, more cloud further south and southwest
02:00and still a few bits and pieces of rain drizzle which will turn wintry over any hills and higher ground.
02:06The risk of ice as we head through the morning but then slowly we'll see some brighter skies as the cloud breaks inland across Scotland.
02:15Even eastern England seeing some fine weather through the morning but wrap up warm if you are out and about.
02:20Here's the rain arriving across the southwest through the morning and through the afternoon it will slowly intensify
02:26as those winds continue to strengthen.
02:29For Northern Ireland some showers along the coastline inland mostly dry but the cloud will thicken here
02:34and we continue to see a mix of rain, sleet and snow showers across north as well as the northwest and the northeast of Scotland.
02:42Temperatures then struggling wherever you are but slightly milder down towards the southwest
02:46but a very windy end to the day here with that heavy rain as well causing problems, poor visibility, lots of surface water.
02:53Now notice as we head through this evening that rain is readily turning to snow initially over the high ground
02:59but even at lower levels and extending northwards as well.
03:03The rain is heavy further south and those strong winds just transferring across the south coast
03:08towards eastern counties of England as we head through tonight and into tomorrow morning.
03:14This amber warning means further accumulations as we head into the early hours
03:19and notice even a mix of rain and wet snow across eastern counties as we head into Friday morning.
03:24So Friday morning rush hour looks like this, a severe frost in the north with the risk of ice
03:29where you've seen those snow showers certainly coverings of snow.
03:32Temperatures not going to reach above freezing through the day, it's going to be bitter.
03:37For Northern Ireland a few showers across the far north, one or two running down though
03:40across western Wales towards the west country with a strong wind here.
03:45Very strong winds across this eastern side of England extending down across the Midlands towards the southeast
03:50and that rain with some snow mixed in there causing problems, it's an unpleasant if not nasty start to the day.
03:58Across Scotland we'll see some brighter weather inland if not some sunshine becoming reserved to more western areas
04:04as we see showers move in, they'll turn wintry coming in from the east
04:08as we remain under cloudy skies with that cloud and rain, a little snow mixed in there as well.
04:14Saturday looks like this after a hard frost, most of us seeing some bright weather if not some sunshine
04:20still or wintry showers across the far north and here's your outlook through Sunday.
04:24Rain arrives towards the west, thickening cloud ahead of it, still some brighter weather
04:28say eastern counties of Scotland as well as England, temperatures will struggle after a frosty start
