00:00It's fair to say the weather this week is going to be pretty different to how we ended last week when Storm Amy was hitting.
00:07Yes, there will be some rain at times, but also plenty of dry, fine weather around.
00:13Through the end of Monday, well, there's high pressure to the south of us.
00:16High pressure will actually build again as we go through this week, but there is also a front that's pushing in as we go overnight.
00:23But just quickly looking at the jet stream, because it was the strong jet that led to Storm Amy intensifying so much and being such a feature through Friday into Saturday.
00:33Well, the jet stream is now weaker and also it's meandering to the north of us, which is why things are much more settled to start at the moment.
00:40But as we go through, well, through Monday night and into Tuesday, that front, it is gradually going to edge its way in.
00:46And meanwhile, towards the south, still heavily under the influence of high pressure.
00:50So we wake up on Tuesday morning, lots of fine weather across central southern areas, a wetter start, though, across Scotland and Northern Ireland.
00:58And that band of rain, it's not looking particularly heavy, but it is going to be a little bit damp because of it as it edges its way further southwards,
01:05pushing into parts of northern England, perhaps the far north of Wales, as we go into the afternoon.
01:10Behind it, towards the north, across Scotland and Northern Ireland, things brightening up quite nicely,
01:15albeit a few showers towards the far north of Scotland and actually ahead of the front as well.
01:19Perhaps not as bright as further north, but nonetheless, there should be some decent sunshine, particularly across eastern parts.
01:24East Anglia, for example, should be largely fine and sunny.
01:28In the sunshine, it's going to feel relatively warm.
01:30Temperatures are generally around average for the time of year, peaking around 17, 18 Celsius towards the south and a few degrees lower than this further north.
01:38If you're under the cloud and the drizzly rain across parts of northern England, well, feeling a bit fresher for sure.
01:44As we go through Tuesday evening, we are going to see that band of rain edging just a little bit further southwards into more, well, across northern parts of England,
01:53perhaps in towards the Midlands and across northern and central parts of Wales.
01:57Further north and again across Scotland, Northern Ireland, the far north of England, lots of clear skies.
02:01And further south, across southern parts of England and Wales, some clear breaks as well,
02:06which is good news if you're hoping to see the full moon, which is a supermoon, the harvest moon, the first supermoon of the year.
02:13Then as we go through Tuesday into Wednesday, that band of rain, albeit only light and drizzly, does continue its progress southwards.
02:20But ahead of this, there could be some mist and fog patches developing on Wednesday morning across southern areas.
02:26And then things are going to turn cloudy and damp as that front pushes its way southwards,
02:31eventually clearing away from the south as we go through the afternoon.
02:35Elsewhere, a good deal of fine, at times dry, maybe even sunny weather for many places.
02:40Although across parts of Scotland, the far northwest, it is going to be turning a bit more blustery
02:44as a bit more wet weather starts to push its way in.
02:47Nothing especially heavy, though.
02:48And when I say blustery, I don't mean especially windy.
02:51Just a gust of 40, 50 miles per hour, perhaps in exposed spots.
02:56Nowhere near the strength of winds that we saw with Storm Amy at the back end of last week.
03:00Temperatures on Wednesday, similar to Tuesday, really.
03:03Around average for the time of year, mid to high teens quite widely.
03:06And, well, the sunshine is all important in terms of how warm it's going to feel.
03:11Then as we go through Wednesday into Thursday, high pressure building from the southwest.
03:15And it's this high pressure that's really going to dominate our weather as we go through the end of the week and into the weekend.
03:21It's going to lead to a lot of dry weather for many places.
03:24That being said, still a bit of damp weather across western parts of Scotland.
03:29Perhaps a little bit of cloud bringing drizzly rain across parts of Northern Ireland.
03:33Maybe northwestern parts of England, perhaps the far north of Wales.
03:36But away from these areas, yes, there will be a bit more cloud pushing its way in.
03:40But it should be largely dry towards the southeast.
03:43Kent, for example, could see largely sunny skies through much of the days.
03:47There will be some blustery winds again towards northern parts.
03:51And Orkney Shetland perhaps having some blustery showers pushing through.
03:54Again, we're looking at the potential for gusts of around 40 to 50 miles per hour over higher ground around exposed coasts.
04:01But further south, generally light winds.
04:03So again, where you see the sunshine feeling warm enough, obviously a bit fresher where the cloud lingers.
04:09Through Thursday night into Friday, again, there could be some fog patches to watch out for.
04:13And through this week as a whole, worth bearing in mind, rural spots where you get any calm, clear weather could see a touch of frost as well.
04:20But on the whole, Friday, another relatively quiet day.
04:24Again, blustery winds across northern parts.
04:26The further you are away from that high pressure that's building in, the greater chance you have of some blustery winds.
04:31Quite a bit of cloud on offer through Friday.
04:34Not a great deal of sunshine.
04:35And that cloud will be thick enough for a few spots of drizzly rain, mainly across some western parts over higher ground in particular.
04:41But once more, temperatures near normal for this stage in October.
04:45So mid to high teens quite widely will be our maximum temperatures.
04:48But like I say, we could still have some relatively chilly nights, particularly if you get any clearer spells at times.
04:54That high pressure continues to build as we go into the weekend.
04:57So little change really.
04:59Staying pretty calm, staying pretty fine and often dry.
05:04Not totally dry.
05:05There will be a little bit of rain here and there, particularly across some higher ground areas where the cloud is thick enough and mainly towards the north and west.
05:15But for many, it's looking generally dry as we go through this weekend.
05:18Quite a bit of cloud around.
05:19Not a huge amount of sunshine on offer.
05:21And again, the risk of a bit of fog continues as well, similar to what we're seeing through much of this week.
05:27But of course, stay up to date with the forecast if you have any plans for this weekend.
