00:00Now, most of us will see a bit of rain this weekend, but for a fair few of us it's
00:06not going to be a huge amount,
00:07not really enough to help alleviate the ongoing issues because of how dry it has been so far this month.
00:13Let's first of all look at Friday, however, and first thing there could be a bit of cloud, drizzly rain
00:18over parts of Scotland.
00:19That will clear by the afternoon, leaving a mostly dry picture for many of us.
00:23The sunniest skies will be across central southern parts, and whilst you can't rule out one or two showers,
00:29it is generally going to be dry, and with all that sunshine in the south, it's going to be very
00:34warm, if not hot.
00:36Temperatures getting into the mid to high 20s quite widely across some central southern parts, 30 Celsius, not out of
00:42the question.
00:43For Exeter, it could be the 20th day in a row where it exceeds its heatwave threshold.
00:49Further north, a bit more cloud, a bit fresher here, and there is some more persistent rain edging its way
00:54in from the northwest.
00:55That's because of a frontal system that's lingering over northern parts of the UK.
01:01That is going to make its way southeastwards through Friday night and into Saturday.
01:07So that's going to turn things cloudier and wetter, and notice the ice bars a bit tightly packed,
01:11so things are turning a bit breezy, a bit blustery with that more changeable weather as well.
01:16So first thing Saturday morning, cloudy, quite wet across much of Scotland and Northern Ireland.
01:21That rain feeding its way further southwards into some northern parts of England and Wales,
01:25later reaching more central parts of England and Wales as well.
01:29Further south, however, staying dry, lots of sunshine, and with that then we're going to see temperatures rising.
01:36The highest temperatures, the focus of the heat, will have shifted a bit further eastwards compared to Friday.
01:42So greatest chance of high 20s or low 30s across parts of the southeast.
01:46Temperatures further west are a couple of degrees down compared to recent days,
01:50but nonetheless still feeling very warm in that sunny weather.
01:54Different story further north where things are a bit more changeable, a bit fresher, cloudier,
01:58outbreaks of rain and a bit blustery at times as well.
02:01That weather system that I highlighted continues its progress southeastwards through Saturday night and into Sunday.
02:07So most places, yes, we'll see some rain at times, but for some, the majority of that will come overnight.
02:13And it is going to be a little bit heavy at times, but we're not expecting huge rainfall totals.
02:19Nonetheless, we could wake up on Sunday morning across the bulk of England and Wales.
02:22Quite cloudy, a bit damp, outbreaks of rain.
02:25A lot of that rain, though, will clear away towards the southeast earlier on in the day.
02:29A few showers following in behind.
02:31A lot of dry weather, but a fair few showers coming as well.
02:35Some of them could be a bit on the heavy side, maybe some rumbles of thunder.
02:38Perhaps some over eastern parts of England and some over northern and eastern parts of Scotland.
02:43Here they could pack a bit of a punch.
02:45We're talking 10, 15 millimetres in an hour or so.
02:48But yes, like I say, actually there will be a lot of dry weather around, even some sunshine breaking through.
02:53But with that slightly fresher air coming in behind that frontal system that's moving through Saturday and into Sunday,
03:00temperatures, particularly in the south, will be down a couple of degrees compared to, well, both Friday and Saturday, really.
03:06We're looking at highs just about getting into the mid-20s towards the south.
03:09That may feel a bit more comfortable than it has done recently for some of us.
03:14Further north temperatures similar to Saturday, really.
03:17Mid to high teens or low 20s in a few places.
03:20Then later Sunday and into Monday, we have a bit of a ridge of high pressure building from the southwest.
03:26That's going to help clear away any of those showers.
03:28So things turning pretty quiet and dry overnight.
03:32In fact, actually with that quieter weather, Sunday night into Monday could be a bit fresh, a bit chilly perhaps
03:37for some of us.
03:38And then we stick with that ridge of high pressure in the south into next week.
03:41But further north, we could see some weather systems toppling over the north of it.
03:46And so we're turning a bit wetter across northern northwestern parts of the UK.
03:51So really next week, I am expecting more rain, but that's mainly going to be across northern parts.
03:55Further south, a greater chance of staying largely dry.
03:58And with that higher pressure here, a reasonable chance that we'll see things turning warmer again.
04:03So fairly likely that we're going to see temperatures back in the mid to high 20s, possibly even low 30s
04:09as well.
