This is the Met Office UK Weather forecast for the week ahead 29/06/2026. It’s a markedly fresher and more comfortable week ahead but there will be some rain at times, turning heavy and thundery in the north on Tuesday. Models are then showing another heatwave for some next week, which we will be keeping a close eye on. Bringing you this week’s weather forecast is Alex Burkill.

00:00You may have heard talk of some high temperatures again next week, and yes, it does look like we are
00:05going to see a bit more heat, but for the time being, well, it's markedly fresher than it was last
00:10week when we had those record-breaking high temperatures, and there is some rain around, particularly towards the northwest.
00:16That's actually what we take into Tuesday. There's a front coming in from the west, and so that's going to
00:21bring some fairly frequent rain across much of Scotland, Northern Ireland, western parts of England and Wales. Some thunders likely
00:28with this as well, some torrential downpours, large hail, some gusty winds as well, along with the frequent lightning. Meanwhile,
00:35towards the southeast, a bit of rain is possible during the morning, but otherwise, it's actually looking largely dry across
00:40much of eastern, southeastern England, with a decent chance of seeing some sunshine as well.
00:44There will be some sunny breaks elsewhere, but the best of the sunshine across parts of eastern, southeastern England. Now,
00:50temperatures, yes, they are down compared to what we had last week, but if you get any sunshine, it is
00:55going to feel very warm indeed.
00:56Mid-20s towards the east, southeast, a fair few degrees fresher than this towards the north and west. Most of
01:03the showers will clear away towards the east through Tuesday night and into Wednesday, and then it turns drier for
01:08a time.
01:09The drier weather may not last particularly long. There's another weather system waiting to come in from the west.
01:14But yes, we start Wednesday on a largely dry note, a few spots of rain, perhaps where the clouds thicken
01:19up across some western parts, but generally dry.
01:22Before then, that system I just highlighted spreads its way in initially across northern Ireland, so bringing some heavy, persistent
01:27rain here, and then that feeds into much of Scotland and also some parts of northern, northwestern England.
01:32A little bit of cloud, bringing some rain to other western parts as well. Meanwhile, towards the east and southeast,
01:38again, largely dry here.
01:40Some sunshine, particularly towards some southern, southwestern areas across the East Anglia, the southeast Kent here.
01:47It's looking like it is going to turn cloudier through the afternoon.
01:50Temperatures similar to Tuesday, so mid-20s towards the southeast, a few degrees fresher than this towards the northwest.
01:56Obviously, with the rain coming in, it's going to feel less warm than across southern areas, and worth bearing in
02:02mind, the winds will be strengthening as well.
02:04Some strong gusty winds, especially around those northwestern coastal parts, so that's something that will also add to the fresher
02:10feel here.
02:11That weather system pushes through over Wednesday night into Thursday.
02:15Perhaps the heaviest, most persistent rain will be through Wednesday night.
02:18And then it does make its way across parts of the southeast, but it's breaking up as it goes.
02:22And so, yes, there will be a bit of rain around here and there, first thing on Thursday morning, but
02:28not a huge amount by that point.
02:30And it should clear through, so things turning drier as we go through Thursday itself.
02:35Lots of sunshine across central southern parts, holding on to a bit more cloud across northern areas.
02:39But even here, yes, it is going to be mostly dry.
02:42Temperatures again, mid-20s, possibly getting close to high 20s across some southern areas.
02:47And again, high teens, low 20s across the north.
02:51Now, the strong gusty winds will have overnight because of that weather system.
02:54They'll gradually be easing through Thursday, but it is still going to be a bit blustery across some northern parts.
02:59Lighter winds again towards the south.
03:02Into Friday, and we're sticking with the quieter theme.
03:05There's this area of high pressure that's building from the southwest, and that's going to become more dominant through into
03:11this weekend.
03:12So that's going to help settle our weather down.
03:14So Friday's looking like a relatively quiet day, perhaps turning cloudier across some northern parts.
03:18We're further away from that high pressure here.
03:20It's always a greater chance of seeing some outbreaks of rain, particularly western parts of Scotland and Northern Ireland.
03:25Here it could be a little bit damp at times, that rain doesn't look especially heavy.
03:29It could be a bit blustery as well because we're further away from that high.
03:32But further south across the bulk of England and Wales, a largely fine day.
03:36Lots of sunshine.
03:36Temperatures again peaking around 26, maybe 27 Celsius, and mostly light winds as well.
03:42Now, that high pressure is going to build from the south as we head into the weekend.
03:46So that's going to bring a lot more fine weather to areas across much of the country.
03:51It's just the further away from that high pressure you are, the greater chance you have of some fronts pushing
03:56their way in through Saturday, Sunday.
03:58We could see some rain mainly towards the north.
04:00Still a bit blustery at times, but most parts under the influence of that high and seeing some fine weather.
04:06Now, a big talking point is the temperatures and how high they're going to get.
04:09I think it is going to turn a bit warmer as we go through the weekend, even hotter for some
04:14of us.
04:14High 20s, quite likely, I suppose.
04:16Into next week, yes, there are signs of something a little bit hotter by then.
04:21But it's a wee way off at the moment.
04:24This weekend then, yeah, mostly dry for many as that high pressure becomes more dominant, cooler and a bit wetter
04:30towards those northern parts, the further away from the high pressure that you are.
04:33And yes, there is a high chance that we're going to see a heat wave again in time for next
04:39week.
04:39Exactly how hot it gets, well, that's a bit uncertain.
04:41But at this stage, it doesn't look like it will be as exceptionally hot or as humid as it was
04:47for many of us last week.
04:49Partly because we don't have that exceptional heat, that historic heat across the near continent at the moment to help
04:54feed in across the UK as well.
04:57It's also worth bearing in mind that it's probably not going to be heat wave conditions everywhere.
05:02I think towards the south, you have a greater chance of seeing that hot air coming in.
05:06And so a greater chance of us seeing those heat wave conditions, perhaps.
05:09Now, of course, we will be keeping you up to date with all developments about how hot it's going to
05:14get, how long any heat wave will last.
05:16We'll be taking a closer look at it and also what happened last week in this week's deep dive.
05:22So do catch that on our YouTube channel.
05:23That'll go out on Tuesday.
05:25Bye bye.
