00:00I heard what everybody had to say about Brendan Soresby.
00:03I am not nasty about the plight that he is in.
00:06I don't mean to be nasty about the plight that Brendan Soresby is in,
00:10but I've been waiting to say this for a while.
00:12I think we're putting together a good football team.
00:14I think we're putting together a solid team,
00:15and I'm not willing to take that type of a risk on a player
00:19that is going to be the center of this universe,
00:21and you would hope to be for years to come,
00:23on a second-round supplemental pick.
00:25I'm not willing to do so. I'm not going to do it.
00:28I just have to say I wish him well in his future endeavors,
00:31and maybe I need to get with the times.
00:33Maybe we're going to hear more of this over time,
00:36but with everything that surrounds him and everything going on,
00:40I believe the talent's there.
00:42The people who said that he wasn't even on anybody's radar before,
00:45those people are wrong.
00:45He definitely was going to be on people's radar after this coming year
00:48with the way it seemed to be at Texas Tech, right?
00:51That pointed out, I'm not just going to fast-track him to my organization.
00:55I don't think we're the right mix for each other yet. No.
00:58I'm sorry. Go ahead. You can attack me on it.
01:00No, no. I don't want to attack because, first of all, let's be honest,
01:03none of us know the depths, the true depths of what he got himself into.
01:08Like, we do know that he wagered.
01:10Okay, a lot of college kids and a lot of current athletes do.
01:13You'd probably be naive to think otherwise, right?
01:17Now, the betting on his own team?
01:19Okay. Okay. Now there goes the orange dot, right?
01:22We throw the orange dot right down the drain.
01:24So we have to find out, like, how deep was he in?
01:27And what led to the decision-making?
01:31Did he get out?
01:32Is it like a movie come to life where he owed people money
01:36and it got worse and worse?
01:38We could sit here and speculate all day,
01:39but we do know there's an investigation, right?
01:41So I just wanted to strip some of that away just to have the discussion,
01:47which I thought was a warranted one.
01:49Like, how big of a character concern is a student that gambles?
01:55Like, because, you know, Baker Mayfield got arrested while he was in college.
01:59Is that a character concern? Yeah.
02:00He's the number one overall pick.
02:02Like, we could go through.
02:04Deshaun Watson, how many allegations?
02:06I'm glad you brought that up.
02:07What do we do with gambling?
02:09Because, no, gambling's not new,
02:11but to have it out in the open the way it is today,
02:14have it be ubiquitous the way it is,
02:17where every commercial during a sports game or on the radio,
02:22like, we're in a very different place than we've ever been.
02:24So I just wanted everybody...
02:25And I think a lot of us are afraid to come off as hypocrites.
02:27Yeah, yeah.
02:28And I'll say it right now.
02:29Baker Mayfield getting arrested while being intoxicated in college
02:32doesn't make Baker a problem alcoholic for the rest of his life.
02:36Brennan Soresby, from what I know,
02:39I mean, when you're going to therapy,
02:40do we have a problem now for the rest of our lives?
02:42Right, right.
02:43Is there something that needs to happen?
02:44Because I can't just keep your phone away from you your entire life.
02:47I can't do it.
02:48Okay?
02:49So I'm going to have to have the discipline,
02:51or you're going to have to have the discipline to follow along with this.
02:54Or, like, I have to ask,
02:56was this something that he knew he was going to be in hot water with the NCAA?
02:59So, hey, we're going to go get this taken care of here
03:02because we don't know necessarily what our future is going to be.
03:05And so until this can be all taken care of,
03:07we're going to go through the proper steps to look like it is.
03:10Because there's a lot of guys...
03:11Oh, just real quick.
03:12Yeah.
03:12And, like, the Pete Rose thing,
03:15what I always laughed about when people would say,
03:18well, he wasn't betting against his team.
03:20And I'm like, it's not that far of a leap.
03:23Once you're a gambler, once you're a degenerate gambler,
03:26and once you're making phone calls from the clubhouse
03:30and you know information about other teams,
03:32then it's, like, not that crazy to believe
03:34that you're going to get into hot water
03:36and then do whatever it takes to get out of that.
03:39My issue is, I'm not trying to villainize him for gambling.
03:42Again, we all...
03:43If you're on any sports sites whatsoever,
03:47whether you're basically your own YouTube page
03:49or whether you're on Sports Talk Radio,
03:50there's definitely something on your pages
03:52that has to do with sports gambling.
03:54There ain't no way around it.
03:55All right?
03:56It's not trying to villainize him.
03:58There will be other situations of this, obviously.
04:01But it's also, where are we at as a franchise?
04:04If we're talking about giving up
04:06second-round supplemental picks, talent's there.
04:08Like, I watched him at UC.
04:10I saw that there was talent there.
04:12The people would know better.
04:13Like, hey, man, he moves coverage with his eyes.
04:15There's things that he does.
04:16The pocket awareness is there.
04:17He's athletic.
04:18He was set up to have a really good season at Texas Tech.
04:21Let me just say this here,
04:23because I know there's going to be a lot more conversation about it in the future.
04:26Are we in a position, as a franchise,
04:30a second-round pick is an investment.
04:32That means that goes away next year.
04:34Are we in a position, as a franchise,
04:37to bring him in?
04:38That means that this would be right now, right?
04:39He would play in 2026?
04:41He'd be on your football team in 2026?
04:42After potential suspension?
04:44Are we in that position to be able to bring him in
04:47and then get him to take flight at some point where I think a lot of us are saying,
04:51hey, we'll see where 2026 goes, but we're looking at that 2027 class.
04:55Do we need that as ammo?
04:57Because I look at what this team has done over the last couple of years,
04:59I'm really excited.
05:01I mean, honestly, I'm trying to not say irresponsible things
05:04when I hear all the craziness surrounding Aaron Rodgers and Lamar Jackson
05:08and where not Joe Burrow's going to be able to take his team to another level there.
05:13Aaron, I'm going, man, maybe the climb isn't as high as what we think it is.
05:16If you make the wrong investment in the quarterback, we've seen it before.
05:20We've let great talent have to go before because we've messed up the quarterback position.
05:25I don't think this is the right place, and I don't think this is the right time
05:29for Brennan Soresby.
05:31Not villainizing him.
05:33Things happen.
05:34Things happen.
05:35Doesn't mean you can't get your life back on track if his life is off track
05:39because still some of me wonders what was done because of what possible NCAA
05:43infractions could be found.
05:44That makes me wonder.
05:46But I just don't believe this is the right place or the right time
05:50to be taking such a strong, making such a strong investment
05:55and taking such a big risk.
05:56But it is also not a first-round pick, and it's not a year from now.
06:00I understand.
06:00So we don't have to worry about tanking.
06:02You don't have to be like, oh, after every win, oh, is this a bad year to win?
06:08Are you a middle-of-the-road team?
06:10And, oh, this is a terrible year to be a middle-of-the-road team.
06:13I've been guilty of some get-rich-quick schemes when it comes to a Browns quarterback.
06:18And that's what I'm trying to avoid, man.
06:19But what's the opposite of this?
06:20Just waiting and hoping the quarterback falls into our lap?
06:23Like, Andrew Barry loves value.
06:25Is getting a first-round pick in next year's loaded draft
06:27in this year's second-round supplemental, is that all-time value?
06:31Which is wasting more time with some talent that we already have.
06:342-1-6-4-7-4-0-92.
06:36It's not a perfect answer.
06:37Or I can just give the answer that I truly feel that I have to give.
06:40Should they be open to Soresby?
06:42I say right now, no.
06:43If he had everything cleared up into next year, maybe.
06:46But that's next year.
06:47I've got to deal with it now in a possible supplemental draft.
06:49I say no.
06:50And I know a lot of people, once the video has come out,
06:52Kenny, answer the question.
06:55Is Brennan Soresby better?
06:57And my answer would be, probably.
06:59Yeah, probably.
07:00He'd probably be the best option you have.
07:02All right?
07:05Talent has been there before, guys.
07:07Just because the talent's there doesn't mean he's going to have everything put together.
07:10And because of all the smoke that's going around, to me, we're not the right investment for him.
07:17He's not the right investment for us.
07:18We're just starting to climb out from this mess that we have.
07:23These are good.
07:24Last year's draft class was excellent.
07:26This year's draft class looks promising.
07:28Obviously, they've got to go out there and play the games.
07:30But it just feels like, man, we're just starting to get our bleep together here, man.
07:33We're just starting to find our way.
07:35Maybe we're starting to put together a culture.
07:37I'm hearing guys who have not talked nice about the Browns.
07:40I sent you guys that clip while I was on the boat.
07:43I had a chance to listen to a lot of podcasts, a lot of Cleveland Sports Talk radio as well.
07:47And I've heard some people say, some well-known NFL people say some things about the Browns.
07:53And I don't think I've ever heard in my career or in my life.
07:55Hear over these last couple of weeks about what they did.
07:59And I just don't believe we're the right place or he's the right QB to make such a bold investment
08:05in the supplemental draft going, okay, we'll give up a second-round pick for the guy.
08:08Yeah, there's a backside to that.
08:10He could go and end up being picked up somewhere else by the Jets or God knows who.
08:13I said, what if the Steelers got him?
08:14Or the Steelers get him and he can go on and have a great career.
08:16And I'm known as the guy who said, nah, it's too big of a risk.
08:19Like, this is what you have to do.
08:20I can't just be open to everybody just because they have talent.
08:24There has to be another side to this.
08:26And I'm not trying to villainize him.
08:27Hey, you've got a long life to live.
08:30Everybody can be redeemed if he has a legitimate problem.
08:33If he has a legitimate problem, because I still have to question why, what are the motivations behind it?
08:38Because of the NCAA stuff, if he has a legitimate problem, you can always redeem yourself.
08:43You certainly can.
08:45But that doesn't mean we're the home for you to be able to do so.
08:48It doesn't mean we're the best situation for you to be in.
08:51I'll admit, look, I'm not a scout.
08:53I have no idea.
08:54I was on the phone with Kenny yesterday, and I'm like, well, what if Andrew Barry told you that he
08:59was definitely going to end up a top 10 pick next year?
09:02If he's like, oh, yeah, there's a reason Texas Tech's paying him $5 million.
09:06He goes there.
09:07They've got a ton of talent around him.
09:09They're going to be at one of the most expensive rosters.
09:11You could see the path to him being a top 10 pick next year.
09:14And all I was like, so let's just say the talent wasn't even in question.
09:17And it was just about the character stuff because of the gambling when all was said and done, and the
09:24Browns would have to do their own investigation on how they felt about him.
09:27This would be like the once-in-a-lifetime Bernie Kosar situation where you don't have to be bad.
09:34You don't have to go through all of this year and hope that a team with Miles Garrett is bad
09:38to get your quarterback.
09:39But also think about this.
09:40He's going to have rookie struggles if you go out and get this guy.
09:43So immediately, if I've already had information, there's conversations that we don't want to have.
09:48Just because they're uncomfortable doesn't mean we shouldn't have them, by the way.
09:50But there's conversations that I think that are going to bother a lot of fans, whereas if he goes out
09:56there and is bound to struggle at times as a rookie, especially with the Cleveland Browns,
10:01all right, are we going to start getting calls about what his intentions are?
10:06Are we going to start getting nasty calls about what is possibly lurking, things of that nature?
10:12I don't think that this is the right situation for him.
10:16I think a franchise that might have a better standing of it, maybe it is.
10:20Like, let's be honest here.
10:21Take the bronze out of it.
10:22What would you feel if the Jets got him in a supplemental draft pick?
10:25Would you not say typical Jets?
10:27Oh, yeah.
10:27Exactly.
10:28So the Jets have been a mess.
10:30We have not been that great ourselves.
10:32Let's be practical here, guys.
10:34Yeah, I just know that somebody is going to get him.
10:37Yes.
10:37And, you know, whoever ends up taking him is going to say, yeah, we talked to him.
10:41We did our research.
10:42Of course they're going to say that.
10:44We felt we've done that with how many guys that were not considered the Orange Dot guys.
10:48And we've been burned by him.
10:49Sure, of course.
10:50Doesn't mean that we'd be burned by him.
10:52They're different scenarios.
10:53What is going to be very interesting, this is a new landscape, right?
10:57And I said, you know, and just stuff you've heard about, you know, the players and the
11:01amount of money that's available for these guys.
11:03Like, there was a time where you wouldn't even want to draft a kid because he had two
11:07high schools on his resume.
11:09Yeah.
11:09We are living in the new frontier.
11:11And I know he's not going to be the last one.
11:13He's not going to be the last one.
11:15Yeah.
11:15But are we in a different place in four years when the next one's there?
11:20Not even talking about quarterbacks, anything.
11:22Yeah.
11:22Are we in a different place as a culture?
11:23Because, like, if we, I've brought this up a bunch of times, the Eagles had been able
11:28to take risks on guys on defense because of the sheriffs that they had in their locker
11:33room.
11:34You're able to take risks on certain guys because you have the type of culture that
11:38could cultivate and hold them responsible to do so.
11:41Are we that type of culture?
11:42Not yet.
11:43Not yet.
11:44I think we might be heading there.
11:45That'd be nice, huh?
11:46I think we might be getting there with some of the guys that we've taken who have been
11:49higher character guys.
11:50But we still got to get there.
11:51And I don't want to skip any steps to it.
11:53I don't want to try to skip any steps to it.
11:55Because when we've tried to skip these steps, when we tried to take Baker and force him
11:59into leadership before he was really ready to be a leader, that's what stunted his growth
12:03here with the Cleveland Browns.
12:04When we tried to force something that really wasn't possible to be done with any sort of
12:08love and care and anything when it comes to Deshaun Watson, that has been an absolute
12:12mess.
12:12And you can go down the line.
12:13So why do I want to try to force this scenario here with this guy who, yes, is talented
12:17and, yes, may end up very well being a number top 10 overall pick next year.
12:21That's all on the table for him.
12:23But as of right now, with us and our situation, with him, the answer is not just as simple
12:29as, is he better than what they have?
12:31It's not.
12:32And I'm not ready to make that investment yet.
12:34Go ahead.
12:35Yeah.
12:35I just, finally, I just, I keep looking at the clock and I'm like, Miles Garrett, how
12:40old is Miles Garrett?
12:41When are the Browns going to have the quarterback in conjunction with Miles Garrett's prime?
12:45And is that even going to happen now?
12:46Is that even going to be possible?
