00:17When a wicked person turns from the wickedness he has committed, and does what is just and right, he will
00:26preserve his life.
00:30For I am aware of my rebellious acts. I am forever conscious of my sin. Hide your face from my
00:41sins. Wipe away all my guilt.
00:47The sacrifices God desires are a humble spirit, O God, a humble and repentant heart you will not reject.
01:01Dearly beloved brothers and sisters, the scripture moves us in sundry places to acknowledge and confess our many sins and
01:10wickedness.
01:12We should not justify nor hide them before the face of Almighty God our Heavenly Father, but confess them with
01:20a humble, lowly, penitent and obedient heart, to the end that we may obtain forgiveness of the same, by his
01:31infinite goodness and mercy.
01:35Although we ought always to humbly acknowledge our sins before God, we should do this particularly when we assemble and
01:43meet together to give thanks for the great benefits we have received at his hands.
01:48To give him most worthy praise, to hear his most holy word, and to ask those things which are truly
01:57necessary as well for the body as the soul.
02:03Therefore I pray and ask you, who are present here today, to accompany me with a pure heart and humble
02:10voice, to the throne of the heavenly grace, as we say together.
02:16Almighty and most merciful Father, we have erred and strayed from your ways like lost sheep.
02:23We have followed too much the devices and desires of our own hearts.
02:29We have offended against your holy laws.
02:32We have failed to do those things which we ought to have done, and we have done things which we
02:39ought not to have done.
02:41And so there is no health in us.
02:45But you, O Lord, have mercy upon us, miserable sinners.
02:49Spare those, O God, who confess their faults.
02:53Restore those who are truly penchant, according to your promises declared to mankind in Christ Jesus our Lord.
03:03Grant, O most merciful Father, for his sake, that we may hereafter live a godly, righteous, and sober life, to
03:12the glory of your holy name.
03:15Amen.
03:18Grant, we beseech you, merciful Lord, to your faithful people, pardon and peace, that they may be cleansed from all
03:26their sins, and serve you with a quiet mind.
03:30Through Jesus Christ our Lord.
03:33Amen.
03:38Our Father, who is in heaven, hallowed be your name.
03:43Your kingdom come, your will be done, in earth as it is in heaven.
03:49Give us this day our daily bread.
03:52Forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us.
03:59Lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.
04:05For yours is the kingdom, the power, and the glory, for ever and ever.
04:11Amen.
04:15O Lord, open our lips, and our mouths shall sing out your praise.
04:23O God, make speed to save us.
04:27O Lord, make haste to help us.
04:33Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit, as it was in the beginning,
04:41is now, and ever shall be, world without end.
04:45Amen.
04:48Praise the Lord.
04:51The Lord's name be praised.
04:56Psalm 37
05:00Do not fret when wicked men seem to succeed.
05:04Do not envy evildoers, for they will quickly dry up like grass, and wither away like plants.
05:12Trust in the Lord, and do what is right.
05:15Settle in the land, and maintain your integrity.
05:19Then you will take delight in the Lord, and he will answer your prayers.
05:24Commit your future to the Lord, trust in him, and he will act on your behalf.
05:31He will vindicate you in broad daylight, and publicly defend your just cause.
05:37Wait patiently for the Lord, wait confidently for him.
05:41Do not fret of the apparent success of the sinner, a man who carries out wicked schemes.
05:48Do not be angry and frustrated.
05:51Do not fret.
05:52That only leads to trouble.
05:55Wicked men will be wiped out, but those who rely on the Lord are the ones who will possess the
06:01land.
06:03Evil men will soon disappear.
06:05You will stare at the spot where they once were, but they will be gone.
06:11But the oppressed will have possessed the land, and enjoy great prosperity.
06:18Evil men plot against the godly, and viciously attack them.
06:23The Lord laughs in disgust at them, for he knows that their day is coming.
06:30Evil men draw their swords and prepare their bows,
06:33to bring down the oppressed and needy, and to slaughter those who are godly.
06:40Their swords will pierce their own hearts, and their bows will be broken.
06:46The little bit that the godly man owns is better than the wealth of many evil men,
06:52for evil men will lose their power, but the Lord sustains the godly.
06:58The Lord watches over the innocent day by day, and they possess a permanent inheritance.
07:06They will not be ashamed when hard times come.
07:09When famine comes, they will have enough to eat.
07:13But evil men will die.
07:16The Lord's enemies will be incinerated.
07:19They will go up in smoke.
07:23Evil men borrow, but they do not repay their debt.
07:26But the godly show compassion and are generous.
07:31Surely those favoured by the Lord will possess the land,
07:35but those rejected by him will be wiped out.
07:39The Lord grants success to the one whose behaviour he finds commendable.
07:46Even if he trips, he will not fall headlong, for the Lord holds his hand.
07:53I was once young, now I am old.
07:57I have never seen a godly man abandoned, or his children forced to search for food.
08:04All day long he shows compassion and lends to others, and his children are blessed.
08:12Turn away from evil, do what is right.
08:16Then you will enjoy lasting security.
08:20For the Lord permits justice, and never abandons his faithful followers.
08:26They are permanently secure, but the children of evil men are wiped out.
08:35The godly will possess the land, and will dwell in it permanently.
08:40The godly speak wise words, and prove much justice.
08:44The law of their God controls their thinking, and their feet do not slip.
08:51Evil men set an ambush for the godly, and try to kill them.
08:55But the Lord does not surrender the godly, nor allow them to be condemned in a court of law.
09:03Rely on the Lord, obey his commands.
09:07Then he will permit you to possess the land, and you will see the demise of evil people.
09:14I have seen ruthless evil men growing in influence, like a green tree grows in its native soil.
09:22But then one passes by, and suddenly they have disappeared.
09:27I looked for them, but they could not be found.
09:31Take note of the one who has integrity.
09:34Observe the upright.
09:36For the one who promotes peace has a future.
09:40Sinful rebels are totally destroyed.
09:43Evil men have no future.
09:46But the Lord delivers the godly.
09:48He protects them in times of trouble.
09:52The Lord helps them, and rescues them.
09:54He rescues them from evil men, and delivers them.
09:58For they seek his protection.
10:03Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit.
10:07As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be.
10:11World without end.
10:13Amen.
10:22The second book of Chronicles, chapter 24.
10:28Joash was seven years old when he began his reign.
10:31He reigned for forty years in Jerusalem.
10:35His mother was Zebeah, who was from Beersheba.
10:39Joash did what the Lord approved of throughout the lifetime of Jehoiada the priest.
10:45Jehoiada chose two wives for him, who gave him sons and daughters.
10:52Joash was determined to repair the Lord's temple.
10:55He assembled the priests and Levites, ordering them go out into the cities of Judah,
11:01and collect the annual quota of silver from all Israel for repairs to the temple of the Lord.
11:08Be quick about it.
11:10But the Levites delayed.
11:14So the king summoned Jehoiada the chief priest and said to him,
11:18Why have you not made the Levites collect from Judah and Jerusalem
11:22the tax authorised by Moses the Lord's servant,
11:26and by the assembly of Israel at the tent containing the tablets of the law.
11:34Wicked Athaliah and her sons had broken into God's temple
11:38and used all the holy items of the Lord's temple in their worship of the Baals.
11:45The king ordered the chest to be made and placed outside the gate of the Lord's temple.
11:52An edict was sent throughout Judah and Jerusalem,
11:55requiring the people to bring to the Lord the tax that Moses,
11:59God's servant, imposed on Israel in the wilderness.
12:05All the officials and the people gladly brought their silver
12:09and threw it into the chest until it was full.
12:13Whenever the Levites brought the chest to the royal accountant
12:16and they saw that there was a lot of silver,
12:19the royal scribe and the accountant of the high priest
12:22emptied the chest and then took it back to its place.
12:27They went through this routine every day
12:30and collected a large amount of silver.
12:35The king and Jehoiada gave it to the construction foreman
12:38assigned to the Lord's temple.
12:40They hired carpenters and craftsmen to repair the Lord's temple
12:45as well as those skilled in working with iron and bronze
12:48to restore the Lord's temple.
12:52They worked hard and made the repairs.
12:54They followed the measurements specified for God's temple
12:57and restored it.
12:59And when they were finished,
13:01they brought the rest of the silver to the king and Jehoiada
13:04and they used it to make items for the Lord's temple,
13:08including items used in the temple service
13:10for burnt sacrifices, pans and other gold and silver items.
13:16Throughout Jehoiada's lifetime,
13:18burnt offerings were made regularly in the Lord's temple.
13:25Jehoiada grew old and died at the age of 130.
13:30He was buried in the city of David with the kings
13:33because he had accomplished good in Israel
13:36and for God and his temple.
13:41After Jehoiada died,
13:43the officials of Judah visited the king
13:45and declared their loyalty to him.
13:48The king listened to their advice.
13:51He abandoned the temple of the Lord God
13:54of their ancestors
13:55and worshipped again the Asherah, Poles and idols.
14:00Because of this sinful activity,
14:02God was angry with Judah and Jerusalem
14:06and the Lord set prophets among them
14:08to lead them back to him.
14:11They warned the people,
14:13but they would not pay attention.
14:15God's spirit energised Zechariah,
14:18son of Jehoiada the priest.
14:19He stood up before the people and said to them,
14:24This is what God says.
14:25Why are you violating the commands of the Lord?
14:29You will not be prosperous.
14:31Because you have rejected the Lord,
14:34he has rejected you.
14:39They plotted against him
14:41and by royal decree stoned him to death
14:43in the courtyard of the Lord's temple.
14:47King Jehoash disregarded the loyalty
14:49his father Jehoiada had shown him
14:52and killed Jehoiada's son.
14:56As Zechariah was dying,
14:58he said,
14:59May the Lord take notice
15:01and seek vengeance.
15:05At the beginning of the seventh year,
15:07the Syrian army attacked Jehoash,
15:09invading Judah and Jerusalem.
15:12They wiped out all the leaders of the people
15:15and sent all the plunder they gathered
15:17to the king of Damascus.
15:20Even though the army invading from Syria
15:23was relatively weak,
15:25the Lord handed over to them
15:27Judah's very large army
15:28for the people of Judah
15:30had abandoned the Lord God of their ancestors.
15:34The Syrians gave Jehoash what he deserved.
15:38When they withdrew,
15:40they left Jehoash badly wounded.
15:43His servants plotted against him
15:45because of what he had done
15:47to the son of Jehoiada the priest
15:49and murdered him on his bed.
15:53Thus he died
15:54and was buried in the city of David,
15:56but not in the tombs of the kings.
16:00The conspirators were Zabad,
16:03son of Shemeneath,
16:05an Ammonite woman,
16:06and Jehozabad,
16:08son of Shemreth,
16:09a Moabite woman.
16:12The list of Jehoash's sons,
16:14the many prophetic oracles
16:16pertaining to him,
16:18together with the account
16:19of his building project
16:20on God's temple,
16:21are included in the record
16:23of the scroll of the kings.
16:25His son Amaziah
16:27replaced him as king.
16:31This is the word of the Lord.
16:34Thanks be to God.
16:49Mary said,
16:51My soul exalts the Lord,
16:53and my spirit has begun to rejoice
16:56in God my Saviour,
16:58because he has looked
16:59upon the humble state
17:01of his servant.
17:04For from now on
17:05all generations
17:06will call me blessed,
17:08because he who is mighty
17:10has done great things for me,
17:12and holy is his name.
17:15From generation to generation
17:17he is merciful
17:18to those who fear him.
17:21He has demonstrated power
17:23with his arm.
17:24He has scattered those
17:26whose pride wells up
17:27from the sheer arrogance
17:29of their hearts.
17:31He has brought down
17:32the mighty from their thrones,
17:34and has lifted up
17:35those of lowly position.
17:37He has filled the hungry
17:39with good things,
17:40and has sent the rich
17:42away empty.
17:44He has helped
17:45his servant Israel,
17:47remembering his mercy,
17:48as he promised
17:49to our ancestors,
17:51to Abraham,
17:53and to his descendants
17:54forever.
17:56Glory be to the Father,
17:58and to the Son,
17:59and to the Holy Spirit,
18:00as it was in the beginning,
18:03is now,
18:04and ever shall be,
18:06world without end.
18:08Amen.
18:16The Epistle to the Hebrews,
18:19Chapter 12
18:22Therefore,
18:23since we are surrendered
18:25by such a great cloud
18:26of witnesses,
18:27we must get rid of
18:29every weight
18:29and the sin
18:30that clings so closely,
18:32and run with endurance
18:34the race set for us,
18:36keeping our eyes fixed
18:38on Jesus,
18:39the pioneer
18:40and perfecter
18:41of our faith.
18:42For the joy set out
18:44for him,
18:45he endured the cross,
18:47disregarding its shame,
18:49and has taken his seat
18:50at the right hand
18:51of the throne of God.
18:59Think of him
19:00who endured
19:01such opposition
19:02against himself
19:03by sinners,
19:05so that you may not
19:06grow weary
19:06in your souls
19:07and give up.
19:10You have not yet resisted
19:12to the point of bloodshed
19:13in your struggle
19:14against sin,
19:15and have you forgotten
19:16the exhortation
19:17addressed to you
19:18as sons?
19:23My son,
19:24do not scorn
19:25the Lord's discipline,
19:26or give up
19:27when he corrects you,
19:29for the Lord
19:29disciplines the one
19:30he loves
19:31and chastises
19:33the son
19:33he accepts.
19:37So endure
19:38your suffering
19:38as discipline.
19:40God is treating
19:41you as sons.
19:43For what son
19:44is there
19:44that a father
19:45does not
19:46discipline?
19:48But if you do not
19:49experience discipline,
19:51something all sons
19:52have shared in,
19:54then you are
19:55illegitimate
19:56and are not
19:57sons.
19:59Besides,
20:00we have experienced
20:01discipline
20:02from our earthly fathers
20:04and we respected them.
20:06Shall we not
20:07submit ourselves
20:08all the more
20:08to the father of spirits
20:10and receive life?
20:12For they disciplined
20:13us for a little while,
20:15as seemed good
20:16to them.
20:17But he does so
20:19for our benefit,
20:20that we may share
20:21his holiness.
20:23Now all discipline
20:25seems painful
20:26at the time
20:27and not joyful,
20:28but later it produces
20:30the fruit of peace
20:31and righteousness
20:32for those trained
20:33by it.
20:34Therefore strengthen
20:36your listless hands
20:37and your weak knees
20:38and make straight
20:40paths for your feet,
20:42so that what is lame
20:43may not be put out
20:44of joint,
20:45but be healed.
20:47Pursue peace
20:48with everyone
20:49and holiness,
20:50for without it
20:51no one will see
20:52the Lord.
20:53See to it
20:55that no one
20:55comes short
20:56of the grace of God,
20:58that no one
20:59be like a bitter root
21:00springing up
21:01and causing trouble,
21:02and through him
21:03many may be defiled.
21:06See to it
21:07that no one
21:07becomes an immoral
21:08or godless person
21:10like Esau,
21:11who sold his own
21:12birthright
21:13for a single meal.
21:15For you know later
21:16when he wanted
21:17to inherit
21:18the blessing,
21:19he was rejected,
21:20for he found
21:22no opportunity
21:23for repentance,
21:24even though
21:25he sought
21:26the blessing
21:26with tears.
21:30you have not
21:31come to something
21:31that can be touched,
21:33to a burning fire
21:34and darkness,
21:35gloom,
21:35a whirlwind
21:36and the blast
21:37of a trumpet,
21:38or a voice
21:39uttering words
21:40such as those
21:41heard,
21:41begged to hear
21:43no more.
21:45For they could not
21:46bear what was
21:46commanded.
21:48Even if an animal
21:49touches the mountain,
21:50it must be stoned.
21:53In fact,
21:54the scene
21:54was so terrifying
21:55that Moses said,
21:57I shudder
21:58with fear.
22:01But you have
22:02come to Mount Zion,
22:03the city of the
22:04living God,
22:05the heavenly Jerusalem,
22:06and to myriads
22:07of angels,
22:08to the assembly
22:09and congregation
22:10of the firstborn,
22:12who are enrolled
22:13in heaven,
22:14and to judge,
22:16the judge of all,
22:17through the spirits
22:18of the righteousness,
22:20who have been
22:20made perfect,
22:22and even to Jesus,
22:23the mediator
22:24of a new covenant,
22:25to the sprinkled blood
22:27that speaks of
22:28something better
22:28than Abel's does.
22:31Take care not
22:32to refuse the one
22:33who is speaking,
22:34for if they did not
22:35escape when they
22:36refused the one
22:37who warned them
22:38on earth,
22:39how much less
22:40shall we
22:41if we reject
22:43the one who
22:43warns from heaven?
22:46Then his voice
22:47shook the earth,
22:48but now he has
22:50promised,
22:50I will once more
22:52not only shake
22:53the earth,
22:54but heaven too.
22:57Now this phrase
22:58once more
22:59indicates the removal
23:00of what is shaken,
23:02that is,
23:03of created things,
23:04so that what is
23:05unshaken may remain.
23:08So since we are
23:09receiving an
23:10unshakable kingdom,
23:11let us give thanks,
23:12and through this
23:13let us offer
23:14worship,
23:15let us offer worship
23:17pleasing to God
23:18in devotion
23:20and awe for our God,
23:22indeed,
23:24a devouring fire.
23:27This is the word
23:29of the Lord.
23:30Thanks be to God.
23:44Now according to your
23:46word,
23:46sovereign Lord,
23:47permit your servant
23:49to depart in peace,
23:51for my eyes
23:52have seen your salvation
23:53that you have prepared
23:55in the presence
23:56of all peoples,
23:58a light for revelation
24:00to the Gentiles,
24:01and for glory
24:03to your people Israel.
24:06Glory be to the Father
24:08and to the Son
24:09and to the Holy Spirit,
24:11as it was in the beginning,
24:12is now,
24:13and ever shall be,
24:15world without end.
24:16Amen.
24:22I believe in God
24:24the Father Almighty,
24:25maker of heaven
24:27and earth,
24:27and in Jesus Christ,
24:29his only Son,
24:30our Lord,
24:31who was conceived
24:33by the Holy Spirit,
24:34born of the Virgin Mary,
24:36suffered unto Pontius Pilate,
24:40was crucified,
24:42dead,
24:42and buried,
24:43he descended into hell.
24:45On the third day
24:47he rose again
24:48from the dead.
24:49He ascended into heaven
24:51and is sitting
24:52at the right hand
