00:17When a wicked person turns from the wickedness he has committed, and does what is just and
00:24right, he will preserve his life.
00:30For I am aware of my rebellious acts, I am forever conscious of my sin.
00:40Hide your face from my sins, wipe away all my guilt.
00:48The sacrifices God desires are a humble spirit, O God, a humble and repentant heart you will
00:57not reject.
01:02Dearly beloved brothers and sisters, the scripture moves us in sundry places to acknowledge and
01:09confess our many sins and wickedness.
01:12We should not justify nor hide them before the face of Almighty God our Heavenly Father, but
01:19confess them with a humble, lowly, penitent and obedient heart, to the end that we may obtain
01:28forgiveness of the same, by his infinite goodness and mercy.
01:35Although we ought always to humbly acknowledge our sins before God, we should do this particularly
01:42when we assemble and meet together, to give thanks for the great benefits we have received at his
01:48hands, to give him most worthy praise, to hear his most holy word and to ask those things which
01:56are truly necessary as well for the body as the soul.
02:03Therefore I pray and ask you, who are present here today, to accompany me with a pure heart
02:09and humble voice to the throne of the heavenly grace, as we say together, Almighty and most
02:17merciful Father, we have erred and strayed from your ways like lost sheep.
02:23We have followed too much, the devices and desires of our own hearts.
02:29We have offended against your holy laws.
02:32We have failed to do those things which we ought to have done, and we have done things
02:38which we ought not to have done, and so there is no health in us.
02:45But you, O Lord, have mercy upon us, miserable sinners.
02:49Spare those, O God, who confess their faults.
02:53Restore those who are truly penitent, according to your promises declared to mankind in Christ
03:01Jesus our Lord.
03:03Grant, O most merciful Father, for his sake, that we may hereafter live a godly, righteous
03:10and sober life, to the glory of your holy name.
03:14Amen.
03:18Grant, we beseech you, merciful Lord, to your faithful people, pardon and peace, that they
03:25may be cleansed from all their sins, and serve you with a quiet mind, through Jesus Christ
03:31our Lord.
03:33Amen.
03:38Our Father, who is in heaven, hallowed be your name.
03:43Your kingdom come, your will be done, in earth as it is in heaven.
03:50Give us this day our daily bread.
03:53Forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us.
03:59Lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.
04:05For yours is the kingdom, the power and the glory, for ever and ever.
04:11Amen.
04:15O Lord, open our lips, and our mouths shall sing out your praise.
04:23O God, make speed to save us.
04:27O Lord, make haste to help us.
04:33Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit, as it was in the beginning,
04:41is now, and ever shall be, world without end.
04:45Amen.
04:48Praise the Lord.
04:51The Lord's name be praised.
05:02He said, I love you, Lord, my source of strength.
05:07The Lord is my high ridge, my stronghold, my deliverer.
05:11My God is my rocky summit, where I take shelter, my shield, the horn that saves me, and my refuge.
05:20I called to the Lord, who is worthy of praise, and I was delivered from my enemies.
05:27The waves of death engulfed me, the currents of chaos overwhelmed me.
05:33The ropes of shale tightened around me, the snares of death trapped me.
05:39In my distress I called to the Lord, I cried out to my God.
05:44From his heavenly temple he heard my voice, he listened to my cry for help.
05:52The earth heaved and shook, the roots of the mountains trembled, they heaved because
05:57he was angry.
06:00Smoke ascended from his nose, fire devoured as it came from his mouth.
06:05He hurled down fiery coals.
06:09He made the sky sink as he descended, a thick cloud was under his feet.
06:16He mounted a winged angel and flew, he glided on the wings of the wind.
06:21He shrouded himself in darkness, in thick rain clouds.
06:26From the brightness in front of him came hail and fiery coals.
06:32The Lord thundered in the sky, the Most High shouted.
06:36He shot his arrows and scattered them, many lightning bolts, and routed them.
06:43The depths of the sea were exposed.
06:45The inner regions of the world were uncovered by your battle cry, Lord, by the powerful breath
06:52from your nose.
06:54He reached down from above and took hold of me.
06:57He pulled me from the surging water.
07:00He rescued me from my strong enemy, from those who hate me, for they were too strong for me.
07:08They confronted me in my day of calamity, but the Lord helped me.
07:14He brought me out into a wide open place.
07:17He delivered me because he was pleased with me.
07:21The Lord repaid me for my godly deeds.
07:24He rewarded my blameless behavior.
07:27For I have obeyed the Lord's commands.
07:31I have not rebelled against my God.
07:34For I am aware of all his regulations, and I do not reject his rules.
07:40I was innocent before him and kept myself from sinning.
07:46The Lord rewarded me for my godly deeds.
07:49He took notice of my blameless behavior.
07:53You prove to be loyal to one who is faithful.
07:57You prove to be trustworthy to one who is innocent.
08:02You prove to be reliable to one who is blameless, but you prove to be deceptive to one who is
08:09perverse.
08:11For you deliver oppressed people, but you bring down those who have a proud look.
08:18Indeed, you light my lamp, Lord.
08:21My God illuminates the darkness around me.
08:26Indeed, with your help, I can charge against an army.
08:29By my God's power, I can jump over a wall.
08:35The one true God acts in a faithful manner.
08:38The Lord's promise is reliable.
08:41He is a shield to all who take shelter in him.
08:47Indeed, who is God beside the Lord?
08:50Who is protector beside our God?
08:54The one true God gives me strength.
08:56He removes the obstacles in my way.
09:00He gives me the agility of a deer.
09:03He enables me to negotiate the rugged terrain.
09:07He trains my hands for battle.
09:10My arms can bend even the strongest bow.
09:15You give me your protective shield.
09:18Your right hand supports me.
09:20Your willingness to help enables me to prevail.
09:24You widen my path.
09:26My feet do not slip.
09:28I chase my enemies and catch them.
09:31I do not turn back until I wipe them out.
09:35I beat them to death.
09:37They fall at my feet.
09:40You give me strength for battle.
09:42You make my foes kneel before me.
09:45You make my enemies retreat.
09:48I destroy those who hate me.
09:51They cry out, but there is no one to help them.
09:55They cry out to the Lord, but he does not answer them.
09:59I grind them as fine wind-blown dust.
10:03I beat them underfoot like clay in the streets.
10:08You rescue me from a hostile army.
10:11You make me a leader of nations.
10:13People over whom I had no authority are now my subjects.
10:19When they hear of my exploits, they submit to me.
10:23Foreigners are powerless before me.
10:25Foreigners lose their courage.
10:27They shake with fear as they leave their strongholds.
10:31The Lord is alive.
10:33My protector is praiseworthy.
10:35The God who delivers me is exalted as King.
10:40The one true God completely vindicates me.
10:44He makes nations submit to me.
10:47He delivers me from my enemies.
10:50You snatch me away from those who attack me.
10:54You rescue me from violent men.
10:57So, I will give you thanks before the nations, O Lord.
11:02I will sing praises to you.
11:04He gives his King magnificent victories.
11:08He is faithful to his chosen ruler.
11:12To David and his descendants forever.
11:15Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit.
11:19As it was in the beginning, is now and ever shall be.
11:23World without end.
11:24Amen.
11:32The second book of Chronicles chapter 14.
11:38Abijah passed away and was buried in the city of David.
11:42His son Asa replaced him as king.
11:47During his reign, the land had rest for 10 years.
11:51Asa did what the Lord his God desired and approved.
11:55He removed the pagan altars and the high places, smashed the sacred pillars and cut down the Asherah poles.
12:03He ordered Judah to seek the Lord of their ancestors and to observe his law and commands.
12:10He removed the high places and the incense altars from all the cities of Judah.
12:17The kingdom had rest under his rule.
12:21He built fortified cities throughout Judah for the land was at rest and there was no war during those years.
12:28The Lord gave him peace.
12:31He said to the people of Judah, let us build these cities and fortify them with walls, towers and barth
12:38gates.
12:39The land remains ours because we have followed the Lord our God and he has made us secure on all
12:46sides.
12:48And so they built the cities and prospered.
12:52Asa had an army of 300,000 men from Judah equipped with large shields and spears.
12:59He also had 280,000 men from Benjamin who carried small shields and were adept archers.
13:07They were all skilled warriors.
13:13Zerah the Kushite marched against them with an army of 1,000,000 men and 300 chariots.
13:21He arrived in Marisha and Asa went out to oppose him.
13:26They deployed for battle in the valley of Zephara near Marisha.
13:32Asa prayed to the Lord his God.
13:35O Lord there is none but you who can help the weak when they are vastly outnumbered.
13:41Help us O Lord our God for we rely on you and have marched on your behalf against this huge
13:49army.
13:51O Lord our God don't let men prevail against you.
13:57The Lord struck down the Kushites before Asa and Judah.
14:03The Kushites fled and Asa and his army chased them as far as Gerar.
14:10The Kushites were wiped out, shattered before the Lord and his army.
14:17And the men of Judah carried off a huge amount of plunder.
14:22They defeated all the cities surrounding Gerar for the Lord caused them to panic.
14:29The men of Judah looted all the cities for they contained a large amount of goods.
14:36They also attacked the tents of the herdsmen in charge of the livestock.
14:41Carrying off many sheep and camels before they returned to Jerusalem.
14:48This is the word of the Lord.
14:51Thanks be to God.
15:09Mary said,
15:11My soul exalts the Lord,
15:14and my spirit has begun to rejoice in God my Saviour,
15:18because he has looked upon the humble state of his servant.
15:24For from now on all generations will call me blessed,
15:28because he who is mighty has done great things for me,
15:32and holy is his name.
15:35From generation to generation he is merciful to those who fear him.
15:41He has demonstrated power with his arm.
15:44He has scattered those whose pride wells up from the sheer arrogance of their hearts.
15:51He has brought down the mighty from their thrones,
15:54and has lifted up those of lowly position.
15:57He has filled the hungry with good things,
16:00and has sent the rich away empty.
16:04He has helped his servant Israel,
16:07remembering his mercy as he promised to our ancestors,
16:11to Abraham and to his descendants for ever.
16:17Glory be to the Father,
16:18and to the Son,
16:19and to the Holy Spirit,
16:21as it was in the beginning,
16:23is now,
16:24and ever shall be,
16:26world without end.
16:28Amen.
16:43The Lord possesses a shadow of the good things to come,
16:46but not the reality itself,
16:49and is therefore completely unable,
16:51by the same sacrifices offered continually year after year,
16:56to perfect those who come to worship.
17:00Otherwise,
17:01they would not have ceased to be offered,
17:04since the worshippers would have been purified once and for all,
17:07and so have no further consciousness of sin.
17:12But in those sacrifices,
17:14there is a reminder of sin year after year,
17:17for the blood of bulls and goats cannot take away sin.
17:22So when he came into the world,
17:24he said,
17:25Sacrifice and offering you did not desire,
17:28but the body prepared for me.
17:31Whole burnt offerings and sin offerings,
17:34you took no delight in.
17:38Then I said,
17:39Here I am,
17:40I have come.
17:41It is written of me in the scroll of the book,
17:45to do your will,
17:47O God.
17:50When he says,
17:51Sacrifices and offerings and whole burnt offerings and sin offerings,
17:55you did not desire,
17:57nor did you take delight in them,
18:01which are offered in accordance with the law.
18:04Then he says,
18:06Here I am,
18:07I have come to do your will.
18:10He does away with the first and establishes the second.
18:15By his will,
18:17have we been made holy through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ,
18:21once and for all.
18:24The priests stand day after day serving and offering the same sacrifices again and again.
18:32Sacrifices that will never take away sin.
18:36But when this high priest had offered one sacrifice for sins for all time,
18:41he sat down at the right hand of God,
18:45where he now waits until his enemies are made a footstool for his feet.
18:51For by one offering,
18:53he has perfected for all time those to be made holy.
18:59The Holy Spirit also witnesses to us.
19:03For after saying,
19:05This is the covenant that I will establish with them after those days, says the Lord.
19:10I will put my laws on their hearts and I will inscribe them on their minds.
19:16And he continues,
19:18Their sins and lawless deeds I will remember no longer.
19:25Now where there is forgiveness of these,
19:28there is no longer any offering for sin.
19:34This is the word of the Lord.
19:38Thanks be to God.
19:51Now according to your word, Sovereign Lord,
19:55permit your servant to depart in peace.
19:58For my eyes have seen your salvation
20:01that you have prepared in the presence of all peoples,
20:05a light for revelation to the Gentiles
20:08and for glory to your people Israel.
20:14Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit,
20:18as it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be,
20:22world without end.
20:24Amen.
20:29I believe in God the Father Almighty,
20:33maker of heaven and earth,
20:35and in Jesus Christ his only Son our Lord,
20:39who was conceived by the Holy Spirit,
20:42born of the Virgin Mary,
20:44suffered unto Pontius Pilate,
20:47was crucified, dead, and buried.
20:50He descended into hell.
20:53On the third day he rose again from the dead.
20:56He ascended into heaven,
20:58and is sitting at the right hand of God the Father Almighty.
21:03From there he shall come to judge the living and the dead.
21:08I believe in the Holy Spirit,
21:10the Holy Catholic Church,
21:12the communion of saints,
21:14the forgiveness of sins,
21:16the resurrection of the body,
21:18and the life everlasting.
21:20Amen.
21:26The Lord be with you,
21:29and with your spirit.
21:33Let us pray.
21:37Lord, have mercy upon us.
21:40Christ, have mercy upon us.
21:45Lord, have mercy upon us.
21:51Our Father who is in heaven,
21:55holy is your name.
21:57May your kingdom come.
22:00May your will be done on earth as it is in heaven.
22:04Give us this day our daily bread.
22:07Forgive us our trespasses,
22:09as we forgive those who trespass against us.
22:14Lead us not into temptation,
22:16but deliver us from evil.
22:19For yours is the kingdom,
22:22the power and the glory,
22:24for ever and ever.
22:26Amen.
22:31O Lord, show your mercy upon us,
22:35and grant us your salvation.
22:40Protect and guide those in authority over us,
22:45and mercifully hear us when we call upon you.
22:51Endue your ministers with righteousness,
22:54and make your chosen people joyful.
22:59O Lord, save your people,
23:03and bless your inheritance.
23:07Give peace in our time, O Lord,
23:11because there is none other who fights for us,
23:14but only you, O God.
23:18O God, make clean our hearts within us,
23:22and take not your Holy Spirit from us.
23:34Let us pray.
23:37Almighty and everlasting God,
23:39who has given us your servant's grace,
23:42by the confession of a true faith,
23:44to acknowledge the glory of the eternal Trinity,
23:47in the power of your divine majesty,
23:51to worship the unity.
23:53We beseech you,
23:55that you keep us steadfast in this faith,
23:58and evermore defend us from all adversities,
24:01who lives and reigns,
24:04one God, world without end.
24:06Amen.
24:15O God, from whom all holy desires,
24:19all good counsels, and all just works proceed,
24:23give to your servants that peace,
24:25which the world cannot give,
24:28that our hearts may be set to obey your commandments,
24:31and also that, by you,
24:35we, being defended from the fear of our enemies,
24:38may pass our time in rest and quietness,
24:42through the merits of Jesus Christ our Saviour.
24:46Amen.
24:51Lighten our darkness,
24:53we beseech you, O Lord,
24:55and by your great mercy defend us all,
24:58from perils and dangers of this night.
25:02For the love of your only Son,
25:04our Saviour, Jesus Christ.
25:06Amen.
25:10Almighty God,
25:12who has given us grace,
25:13at this time with one accord,
25:15O Lord,
25:16to make our common supplications to you,
25:19and promises that when two or three
25:21are gathered together in your name,
25:23you will grant their requests.
25:27Fulfill now, O Lord,
25:29the desires and petitions of your servants,
25:32as may be most beneficial for them,
25:36granting us in this world knowledge of your truth,
25:40and in the world to come,
25:42life everlasting.
25:44Amen.
25:48With the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ,
25:50and the love of God,
25:52and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit,
25:54be with us all evermore.
25:57Amen.
