00:12takeaways how you feeling big dog well uh my my initial reaction was uh one of one of sadness
00:21guys because you're talking about a guy that over his nine seasons has 125 and a half sacks
00:32and only reggie white could say that he had figures like that over his first nine seasons the
00:40only other player so you're talking about maybe the best defensive player in football right now
00:46and if he's not the best he's right there with the best of them and it's it's that the browns
00:51wasted
00:52this opportunity and he's not all you know he's not all um uh not guilty of of also things on
01:02his end
01:02where i look at miles garrett and i look at a guy who you know decided that uh that he
01:10was going to
01:11be here and the browns vice versa and then spouts off during the season and then goes totally radio
01:16silent so i wasn't shocked of the weirdness between him and todd munkin but i i think that
01:24you know i i look at this situation and i say it's unfortunate it's rough this guy's going to have
01:31a hall of fame mug in canon uh and you know i believe it'll be as a cleveland brown and
01:37for it
01:37to amount to one playoff win sums up both the the fault of the organization for some mismanagement
01:45that goes beyond miles but also sums up the the wastefulness of a window of time where you had the
01:51best defensive player in football do i understand why they did this yes i do they needed to do it
01:58they're not winning football games with miles garrett on their team they didn't win many football games
02:04the last couple of years with him breaking records and uh putting himself in the history books but
02:10it is rough when you have one of the franchise's very best players of all time and ultimately an era
02:18where it didn't match to the success of his records yeah uh obviously it's a disappointment john uh and
02:26we're trying to figure out every little bit of minutiae around the trade and everything in between but
02:29your first blush reaction uh if somebody made the suggestion like this is about 2028 meanwhile the
02:35rams are about 2026 how much does this have a a lasting effect on what you think the 2026 season
02:43will end up looking like and how does that change for you well here's the thing jp i i didn't

02:49have them i i don't i didn't have this football team winning more than five or six games heading into
02:57the upcoming season and to be honest with you that's with or without miles garrett i mean
03:04i heard somebody say earlier today he was the second you know he's he's at the second most
03:09important position on on a football team and the most important is the quarterback well with how much
03:15of a question mark here here i disagree with that i did i just i i don't agree that like
03:20there's there's
03:21quarterback and then there's edge rusher because if it was that important the browns would have more
03:26wins to show for it the last couple of years with the best pass rusher in football uh how does
03:31it
03:31change my outlook uh it's the bleakness of 2027 draft and not draft season is going to come to
03:40cleveland early but i think a lot of people have if you hadn't accepted that now this this is pretty
03:46clear okay the browns are not a contender in the national football league right now but but i don't
03:55think that they were much of a contender with the guy on their team so you're right in the fact

04:00the rams are worried about winning a lombardi trophy you know their their window at quarterback with
04:06matthew stafford um it's that window is heading downwards it's it's heading towards closing it might be
04:12closing rather soon and they're in a super bowl the browns are not not right now in 2028 or 2029
04:20sure as heck hope so it's the goal isn't it goal is to be building this thing back up uh

04:25rip the band-aid off organizationally i i understand that but here's the thing uh you lost a little bit
04:32of leverage along the way you know when you give him the no trade and you give him control in

04:37contract that's my problem with this as well andrew berry and and miles garrett those sides agreed to
04:44a contract that gave miles garrett quite a lot of control in this situation and you you wait and you
04:49wait and you do it now and could you have gotten more i think you probably could have i do

05:03say it's good well those are late it's a late first round pick let's be real but but yeah it

05:18performs at a high level i'm i've lost faith in deshaun watson any idea of that working but my
05:23expectations don't change a whole lot for this fall which is the very reason why i you made this move

05:29making this move doesn't come without a lot of fault that led to having to make this move

05:59breaking news in the nfl john a year from now we're looking back on the miles garrett jared verse
06:05trade uh what has to happen for us to be looking back and thinking this is a huge success for
06:11the
06:11cleveland browns jared verse has got to become a he's got to be a force uh you know not to
06:18the
06:18miles garrett degree but he's got to be a a quality player who's making an impact uh and not you
06:26know
06:26going down with an injury but is is healthy and we're seeing an impact on the game from him and
06:32it's not a disappearance act even he's i mean i'm not i'm not looking at jared verse and saying you
06:37got to be a hall of famer like i'm not sitting here and saying that but is this guy bringing
06:42something
06:43to the table week in and week out and are the cleveland browns uh are they coming out of next
06:49year's
06:50draft and you're saying man you know swessinger and fanon and judkins and these different pieces
06:58they've grown and now they just drafted another set of rookies where the the upside's there and
07:04they drafted their quarterback now i know a lot of people who are like well you know it's going to
07:08be
07:08a late first round pick and um what can you really get there look that's an asset it's an asset
07:14that's
07:15tradable it's an asset that that um is usable in in a situation um but what does it look like

07:22jonathan it looks like jared verse who's taking on a leadership role on this football team and is and
07:28is playing a a role for this football team and they've now collected assets and collected picks
07:34that say hey let's hope that the cleveland browns a year from now we're saying wow it really looks like
07:40they hit on three drafts in a row because they hit last year this year's draft class i gave them
07:46credit i liked what they did i like concepcion and boston and i i thought that a fanon was a
07:52was the
07:53right pick it's that they they've hit on three consecutive drafts they've taken out the shovel uh
07:58they've shed some you know they've shed some money and they've built up to reopen a window but most of
08:04all this is trade aside they found their quarterback they found their quarterback because
08:10until you find a semblance of a qb what are we really discussing here if the miles trade was
08:16all about timelines matching does that mean you would trade denzel ward now
08:22yeah probably probably it's timelines matching and do you believe that denzel wards played his
08:28best football the answer to that question is probably has uh i'm not trying to be insulting to
08:35him i hope that he's got more strong football in store but you know with with denzel
08:40um how many more great years does does he have and regardless of that fact how much value can you
08:46get for him in return i would the answer to that question would be yes i would look at if
08:52you were
08:52willing to make this move why wouldn't you be willing to make a move like that and you know you
08:57have
08:57to remove the emotion here because i i've got a lot of uh i i get brown stands who are

09:05i understand if you're a bronze fan and you're mad about this i understand why your franchise uh has
09:12has sunk to a point where the the talent level uh now without miles garrett like at least when your
09:20record was not very good you saw miles garrett pop up in an open of a broadcast and you knew

09:25could sit down on sunday and watch the the best defensive player in the league well denzel ward's a
09:30really good player um there's no question about it but uh clearly it the timeline is we're digging
09:38out of this and we're we're being proactive about it okay uh i would trade denzel ward then i would
09:45look into to trading any veteran assets that i believe i can get a good amount in return for and
09:51denzel ward you can get a good return for him but the the the harsh reality of the situation is
09:57is that the cleveland browns are not trying to win or they're not set to win a lot of football

10:04this upcoming season i hope that i'm wrong i hope it happens i think the conundrum in the room is

10:10do you properly evaluate todd munkin week to week and the three of us will probably talk about that all
10:15summer and then in training camp and then within the season uh but yeah i would be considerate of
10:21trading denzel ward john uh big series here for the cleveland guardians they're in new york to face

14:56happened to be at the end of the bar watching and you know nobody none of the eagles fans i

15:00really recognized him um he wasn't like you know you had to notice him so i went up to him
15:06and i
15:06said hey ernest i'm like um the browns were having a tough game i said hey ernest you know i
15:11just want
15:11to let you know the believe land doc had come out and i said i want to let you know
15:15how much cleveland
15:16loves you and uh how much you're loved by browns nation and you know the dog pound adores you ernest
15:22and ernest got tears in his eyes and you know basically was shaking and oh and started crying
15:29and he said you don't know how much that means to me because my heart still aches thinking about what
15:37could have been and you know i just think um that's a level of pride and a level of uh
15:43love for the city
15:45and for the fan base that i i wanted ernest to know what what a lot of browns fans i'm
15:49sure want him to
15:50know and that is hey man we understand well i i know that image we all know that image i'm

15:56even gonna name it what it is but you still do good as a cleveland bro the the punchline you

16:51what browns fans have and that's why yesterday i think nick and jp was a tough pill for any browns
16:56fan to swallow but at the end of the day this organization has had made some poor moves leading
17:03up to yesterday that they got announced they have to try to get themselves back on track and if there's
17:08anything he took away from yesterday it's that there is a path forward and hopefully that path leads to
17:13them finding a franchise quarterback and getting this franchise back to a place that the fans
17:17deserve browns fans deserve better they did they absolutely 100 deserve better i know you two agree
