00:00I don't blame anyone if their takeaway is what I think I saw a lot of Browns fans saying which
00:06was
00:08man what did Andrew Barry actually tell us that was the truth in his press conference this week
00:13yeah I mean the way I looked at it was it's pretty simple they want to try to frame all
00:18this as if
00:18this is all around Jared Verse and that's fine but if you're sitting down with Miles and having
00:22these discussions and you know what route you're going to go down if you believe the Browns are
00:26one year away from contending keeping Miles will almost certainly be the strategic choice that
00:30you would have and so like what you're doing is and it's fine I get why you want to dress
00:34it up I
00:35get why you want to even do the Presti stuff and tell us that this is your SGA trade it's
00:38going to
00:39morph into something that's going to be awesome all right great but the reality is you made this
00:44trade because you thought it was the best strategic move for the Browns in order to be better two to
00:48three years from now and so that's what that is and it's not necessarily him lying to us I guess
00:53both
00:53things can be true but if you made me guess which one and which side I think this lands on
00:58I think
00:58this is more about the Browns recognizing where they are right now as a team than it is about
01:04taking advantage of whoa Jared Verse was out there and we had to have him I think that's what's funniest
01:09to me about about the idea of the Browns looking at this and going I guess we are farther away
01:15it's
01:16like you're two years into a rebuild yeah we've already gone we've started to go down this again
01:20they won three years three games two years ago well like so then five games last year so if you
01:25have any measure I'm talking about like a small modicum if if Deshaun or Shador are the 16th best
01:32quarterback this year you can end up being a nine-win team and still stuck in quarterback purgatory
01:39I did the now and why you decided to trade Myles Garrett is maybe the most fascinating thing to me
01:43well because they could have done it last year yes if they had wanted they could have done it two
01:47years
01:47ago they could have well I I still think I mean and two years ago when in miserable for so
01:52many
01:52different reasons obviously I just remember talking to people within the Browns and their
01:56their mentality and their mindset maybe there was blowing me smoke but they really did they believe
02:01they had a real team yes that's what made that season so confounding they really did believe they
02:05had a really good team all right so as I've spent today chastising people for automatically just going
02:10oh they're gonna be bad they're gonna be historically bad this year the other thing that's like
02:16floating around in the back of my head you know the thing this organization doesn't seem to be good
02:21about uh knowing when you're gonna be really really good or really really bad yeah so like I thought of
02:28that I almost look at this season as the inverse of 2024 where I mean we were in camp and
02:34it was on
02:36mic players talking about going to the Super Bowl and if you talk to anybody over there off mic Super
02:42Bowl
02:42almost felt like it was too too low of expectations all they were telling anybody and so I there was
02:47a
02:47part of me that's like I think they're wrong about if they think they're gonna get a top three pick
02:51this year and like I said uh Seth Walder ESPN analytics says this team has the fourth best odds to
02:58get
02:59the number one pick and they have top four odds of getting a top five pick 40 percent over 40
03:04percent
03:04chance of getting a top five pick this next year says the ESPN analytics I think they're wrong I'm not
03:11going to tell you that they're going to pick 32 well maybe but it might be for the Rams I'm
03:15not going
03:15to tell you that they're going to get picked 22 but I do think it's interesting that it's like I
03:20think
03:20they're more talented than people outside of Cleveland are giving credit for and I certainly think they
03:25have one of the easiest roads to hoe in all of the NFL given their schedule and even travel it
03:32would
03:32just be the it would be the most Brownsian thing ever to be like we're we got to march for
03:37arch
03:37we're gonna we're gonna suck for one year we'll be back in 2027 and like it's never happened we
03:43traded miles for this and then you ended up like a nine and eight team and like the 16th best
03:47team
03:48in the NFL but we try to lose then we all of a sudden win it would be the most
03:52Andrew Barry thing
03:53very Browns yes it would uh yeah I don't know maybe they're just really bad at projecting out what
03:58they think these teams are going to be but the past two years and in particular two years ago I
04:02just
04:02don't think they thought that they were anywhere close to as bad as they ended up being is is it
04:06possible it caught him by surprise I think everybody's everybody's doing the Occam's razor
04:10thing which makes sense here simplest explanation is they realize they're too far away and that by
04:17the time they get good Miles isn't going to be Miles anymore and he won't have the trade value so
04:22so basically he won't be worth putting up with Miles I think that's a fair idea to have here's the
04:28other one what if they looked and thought exactly what I'm saying hey we don't think we're going to be
04:34great this year we also don't think we're going to be terrible and we don't have the amount of draft
04:40collateral to get up where we need to be to take a quarterback next offseason so we need to find
04:47the
04:47draft collateral so it's still fall out of the Deshaun side of things but it's now we we know we
04:53can't do a Deshaun trade up in the track they still added Jared verse though if they wanted just solely
04:58draft capital to move up they would have gone deeper than just going for the one first round pick
05:02they would have made verse they would have two first round picks oh but I think I think the
05:06Jared verse thing is hey we still have a good enough team to be relatively a 500 team I think
05:12the verse way is just an easy way to sell it to people I don't hate that and I think
05:16the the end
05:17result of this is that again he's going to make everything about Jared verse and the the whole
05:21trade revolving around Jared verse and all of that this all it's all strategy for him and the right
05:26strategic choice was now is the time to get off of Miles Garrett that's what Andrew Barry says in this
05:31now is the time to get off of him this is not about Jared verse uh all things considered it's
05:35about when the time was right when those timelines added up for him 216-474-0092 did Andrew Barry trade
05:42Miles Garrett because he thinks first can become Miles or because he believes the Browns are too far
05:48away for Miles to matter I do think there's a sweet spot when it comes to Miles Garrett and the
05:54Browns
05:55where Miles no longer becomes worth being in business with Miles and that's talking about the off the
06:01field stuff and the I I will say Miles is one of the neediest defensive ends I've ever known in
06:08my
06:08NFL life like Julius Peppers quiet assassin Reggie White Reggie was a big emotional dude but like Reggie
06:16just just went out and played football he really only kind of reared up around a contract situation
06:21here there is there ever been kind of a more diva-esque we're in we're in the world we're in
06:27the world of
06:27diva edge rushers right now uh Micah Parsons is a massive diva has his own podcast is I mean it's
06:34he's right at the top of that list Max Crosby also and now are we are we conflating I guess
06:39diva for
06:40having a podcast is maybe that part of this not for me conversation sounds like you might I yeah maybe
06:45I
06:45am you have a podcast you have your friends on there and you say nasty things about the NFL
06:50uh maybe that's all that needs I I don't know but in fairness everybody has a podcast now all right
06:55do you think you have a modicum of fame congrats here's a podcast do you think Micah Parsons is a
06:59diva because I think he's a diva yeah I think so do you think Max Crosby's a diva because I
07:02think he's
07:03a diva I think he's a really good player but I think he's a diva I think he's also I
07:05don't think
07:06being a diva makes you a bad guy either I want to make that clear too yeah maybe Max is
07:10more of a
07:10diva than the guys I would like Bruce Smith or Reggie White I mean I not everyone is is Trey
07:15Hendrickson where
07:16it's it just feels like all he does is go to work and that's it and then come home I
07:18don't know
07:19he's kind of a diva with a contract thing multiple years in a row but again it's the Bengals so
07:23we
07:23err on the side of the play yeah I definitely gave him the benefit of the doubt there the Bengals
07:27just being a poor franchise I would also probably get pretty pissed at them as well yeah but like
07:31we are in an era if two things are happening with with pass rushers right now the same pass rushers
07:36I'm mentioning are also seem to be the biggest divas in the NFL but they also then are on this
07:41weird
07:41stretch of teams where the elite pass rushers aren't winning a lot of games and it's a the I mean
07:47every every pass rusher I just mentioned right there and then we can throw TJ Watt in the mix
07:50as well TJ is the only one that went to the playoffs but none of them won a playoff game
07:54last year and TJ is not TJ anymore yeah and so like there's there's this weird mix and maybe this
07:59is why we're seeing all these pass rushers be moved right now and all of them be up in trade
08:03conversations but there's this weird connection of diva also not really being on these winning teams
08:10and then the end result I also think there is an element of and I think this is where analytics
08:16and specifically the health and science analytics I think I think from now on pretty much everybody
08:24once they hit 30 become some modicum of tradable no matter how elite you are unless you're a quarterback
08:31and even then if you're not an elite quarterback once you hit 30 I wonder if you're going to just
08:36be
08:37more tradable because well are you really worth it and we don't want to have like I've always said
08:42like in football once you sign a guy who the contract's going to toll over to being 30 if
08:49that's more than multiple years into your 30s you should be prepared to eat one of those years
08:54that's just that's just logic yes and there's too many people in these positions that understand that
08:58logic and so I'll go to one of the quotes that uh that Albert had in here that I think
09:02highlights
09:03what we're discussing uh Andrew Barry says you ask yourself when the deal gets to a certain point
09:07is it really the best thing at that point just to hold on to him like we'd intended like we
09:11said
09:12publicly many times because it actually feels emotional right strategically it just made a ton
09:17of sense Andrew Barry got to this spot because he understood strategically he couldn't ignore it
09:23and what he what he what he put together for himself was he was being too emotional and so he
09:28in a weird
09:28sense almost had to go back to his analytical brain and say wait a second I I like Miles too
09:34much as a
09:34person I'm rooting for him too much to be a one helmet guy I don't need that strategically where he's
09:40at and the timelines don't add up we have to make this move but it became too loud for him
09:45to ignore
09:45because of the analytical brain that he possesses I think maybe my concern with that long term is going
09:51to be you you're kind of forecasting that if you're a you're a if you're a Cleveland Browns fan
09:58no player you ever and maybe this is the way we've been used to no matter how great a player
10:03is no matter
10:03how much you love them you're never going to be safe from losing that player unless they're an elite
10:07quarterback it's Nick Chubb going to Houston it's uh everyone we can discuss it's this yes you're right
10:12this is how this is going to work the Brown the part of the this this give and take that
10:17the Browns
10:17don't understand and I myself I I miss often okay I got a blinder on this as well is that
10:23there is a
10:23football side of this and the Browns are just trying to get that right and there's also a business side
10:28of this that the Browns seem to just completely miss often the fan side of it the idea that uh
10:33sometimes if it's close on the margins having someone like a Miles Garrett or someone you really
10:38love him being in that uniform can get you through some really dark times as a fan base they don't
10:43they
10:43don't think about those things they don't he looks at everything strategically he's
10:47telling you that but I think the problem with that is there maybe they're just certain players
10:52that I think you know maybe just maybe maybe you just keep that guy until the wheels fall off and
10:58I
10:58don't and honestly after considering Miles off the field I don't know that Miles is that guy and if
11:03we throw in the fact that he has uh foot issues that we've talked about a fair amount I I
11:09like it
11:10wouldn't surprise me if Miles didn't finish his career in with the Rams if they got through this next two
11:15years and that 2029 clause is informed thinking hey we're gonna go through the next two years Miles
11:21is gonna play a high level football and then when he is however old he is we're gonna go ahead
11:25and
11:25auction him off two years from now because when we're not good we don't want to deal with the
11:29pain in the ass well the Browns were smart in that uh in putting that in there because the uh
11:33I mean
11:33Ty Simpson's rookie season even if he's supposed to be good because he gets a couple years to sit on
11:37the bench Rams could know it and immediately send that off it could easily just be like all right
11:42Miles to the highest bidder here you go for sure that's on the table 216-474-0092 did Miles know
11:48that the Browns were farther away than everyone else thoughts I think that's the other half of
11:54the thing that we're asking here um it's it's funny about the Miles stuff because Miles wanted
11:59to take a lot of credit about how much he knew and he just even last year when they when
12:03he talked
12:03about looking at where the team was going and I was informed thinking because the team was informing
12:08him of where they thought the team was going to be in 2025 um it's funny to me now that
12:15he'd look
12:15at this and I maybe he's just looking solely at the quarterback position but it's funny that he
12:19would be looking at this and going uh we're still too far away it's like I mean if it takes
12:25three
12:26years to rebuild theoretically 2027 is when you you jump start and expect to start competing yeah well
12:32if he knows that you're taking a quarterback in 2027 and that'll take a little bit longer like I
12:36that the problem with this is that he knows he knows what Andrew Barry's timeline is because of
12:40these meetings he knows what he wants to do in free agency he knows what he wants to do in
12:43draft
12:43strategy he knows what he wants to do in organizational plans like he knows everything
12:47and I let me ask you this is that a dangerous amount of information to give to an active player
12:52uh one named uh Miles Garrett yes I just I'm thinking if you if you let your star player or
13:00any
13:00player on your team into that much info and that much logic into how you think and operate if it's
13:05not positive 24 7 couldn't that player just go and tell a bunch of the players on the team like
13:10yeah yeah all right you like playing hard but I've I see I see what the plan is I know
13:15I know
13:15where this is all going and then before you know it everyone in the locker just thinks what are we
13:18doing here
