00:00The natural reaction to the Miles Garrett contract adjustment has happened because there are one
00:06there's a segment of Browns fans like myself that just don't want the what this might signal to be
00:12true which is the Browns have at least an understanding cracking the door open as it
00:17were to trade Miles Garrett in the near future that could be before the draft it could be this
00:21summer it could be this this trade deadline right and so I've watched people try and bend over
00:27backwards and from a fan perspective the best I've got is well the Browns said no they said
00:34they're not going to trade him and it's like oh honey it's just flimsy oh and and I do doesn't
00:38work I get the sense that the Browns are frustrated that nobody believes them that they don't want to
00:43trade Miles and there's something oh honey about that too it's like you guys boast and pride
00:50yourselves on nobody knowing what you're going to do so when you do that and then surprise people a
00:55lot good or bad and no one's going to believe you when you say things yeah that's not how this
01:00works uh and also something they couldn't avoid either because the restructuring how they did
01:04this with the contract it's like the date was going to hit they couldn't just like sneak this one in
01:08or under uh and then get away with it like that wasn't going to work and then uh Jason from
01:13what is
01:14that OTC over the cab yeah put out what I think is what I think people have clung to the
01:19most which is
01:20well they wanted to uh they want to modernize Miles Garrett's contract and they gave like a precedent
01:27for like how the Eagles do contracts yeah and they looked at Holly Roseman and then obviously Andrew
01:31Berry's brother being a part of the Eagles this contract was signed a year ago and they didn't
01:36have to do it for 2026 yes you wanted to modernize it you could have just done it for 2027
01:40and 2028
01:41and then just kind of made that what you do I totally get that you didn't have to do 2026
01:46so it just it
01:47just does feel like a lot of any okay I don't want to trade Miles Garrett I'm very annoyed at
01:53the suggestion I think the Browns are being the Browns about this and it's frustrating to me
02:00this being said this is the one thing it could signal and so right now I have no discernible
02:07reason why they did it that isn't they want to open the door for potentially trading it and I think
02:14that stand like all the the kind of Browns counters to this or whatever they put out through fans or
02:18media or whatever nobody's buying it right and I'll be I'll be I'll be very surprised if teams
02:25aren't calling Andrew Berry from now until this year because until this uh this summer because I also
02:31think the word that is going to really that they're going to fall back on if they do end up
02:34trading him
02:35for now so far they continue to use kind of conditional language on the idea of trading
02:42Miles Garrett and every report Mike Garofalo on the NFL network said you know for now or no he said
02:49right now and then I think it was Schefter yesterday in the clip said so far Mary Kay said so
02:55far it's like
02:56it's like okay it feels like a little bit of verbal sleight of hand because they're not going to do
03:01it
03:01until June 2nd it's the worst magic trick imaginable because it just lets them then have the opt-out of
03:06well we weren't planning on trading them and then when they trade them for two first and a third they're
03:10like well we just got a godfather offer we got it we got an offer we didn't even and no
03:14one had ever
03:14presented us this offer we didn't see it coming and we had to take it and it's like guys it's
03:18just you
03:18could have been a front from the front but I I get why they don't do it but it's just
03:21it's a little
03:22infuriating now this being said if the Browns are considering dealing Miles Garrett whether it's before this
03:28draft whether it's June 2nd or whether it's uh this next trade deadline hell if even if it's in
03:34the next offseason I do think if you know you're if right now you're playing coy nah absolutely not
03:40going to do it but you know you're going to do it I think it totally frees you about this
03:43draft yeah
03:44and so it's funny about it it's like Wednesday uh when we first started talking about this I was
03:49going through my head and I was thinking about it like is does this take me off of the all
03:53offense
03:53draft and I think if you're looking at it through and again I try to do everything as football
03:57logically as I can at least how I view football right and if you're looking at it from that
04:01perspective if you're not going to do anything or attempt to do anything for 2026 and this is all
04:05about the quarterback in 2027 and they're really just kind of they're not waving the white flag
04:09on 2026 but they're really not doing much to help it out then why are we focused to just offense
04:14only like if you're thinking from a football perspective again this has layers because it's
04:19playing with the idea that you trade Miles and then maybe even you trade Denzel but you're worried
04:23about the future more than you're worried about anything else so if you're not concerned about
04:262026 then it really could be and should be best player available yeah and and like I mean like
04:31literal best not even like best player at key position I mean best player available if Caleb
04:37Downs is your highest graded player at six if you're going to trade Miles you just once you trade Miles
04:42and Denzel the thing you're going to have to build back is elite talent it's the one thing that at
04:47least
04:48on the defensive side of the ball Andrew really hasn't had to worry about because he's always had those
04:53two stalwarts yeah but I also I think this is why no one killed him last year with Mason Graham
04:57because it was like all right tell us what you're trying to do and then we can respond accordingly
05:01and then uh but if they're if they're not taking 2026 seriously then I'm not going to take it seriously
05:06for them take best player available and build this thing out for the future and I honestly think
05:11I think there's something freeing about that that again it's I'm not going to take it if they took
05:17Caleb Downs at six and then an edge rusher at 24 or basically anybody that wasn't a wide receiver
05:24left tackle as they're they're going to move Miles at a later date if it doesn't happen before that
05:29but I will look at this and it'll all make sense if there is a trade that happens before training
05:35camp
05:35or the regular season it does it would it would click and like there was a there was always that
05:38thought in the back of my brain uh that if they if they were to open up the convos to
05:43something like
05:43this then it has to drastically change what you would do uh because you're just not there listen
05:49wide receivers offensive linemen they're great but if you're not trying to win in 2026 or even try to
05:53give the offense a chance to win in 2026 there's no there's no point sweating over that yeah and
05:58here's like honestly I don't want to trade Miles I've been there's a video out there that you can see
06:03me screaming my head off about it but if if one of the positives of of a Miles deal in
06:09the near future
06:10is you don't have to try and tiptoe through overdrafting a wide receiver or left tackle
06:15and you can maybe wait on at least one of those because like what I would do is I'm probably
06:19not
06:20taking any of these left tackles this year and I'm probably just giving DeJuan next year and maybe
06:25bringing in like another veteran to kind of back him up well it'd be another one of those like hey
06:29uh it's not too dissimilar to what you have with Shador where you're like all right if he can do
06:33it
06:33then great and if he can't then okay now we know we need to get a left tackle but it's
06:37worth a shot
06:38it's worth a try to see what he has and I'm not forcing it well I think this is a
06:41really nice
06:42wide receiver draft I think Jordan Tyson and depending on how you feel about slot players
06:47I think McKay Lemon those might be the two guys who I think can be number ones or give you
06:52number
06:52one production you got to keep saying it that way because that's a different than just being a true
06:56number one like a Jamar Chase um but I also think maybe you do a numbers thing right hey instead
07:01of
07:01taking one at six and 24 we'll take maybe Chris Bell at 39 and we'll take another wide receiver
07:06like 70 or at that with that fourth round pick just seeing if you can get maybe a surprise player
07:11somebody who has good value just turns into something what you're describing they're still
07:15going to do something offensively they're still going to like like I would think the focus would
07:19be if you're going for 2027 and the quarterback out of that draft you're still going to try to have
07:23as much as you can lined up until then there's just not the same urgency to make sure that you
07:27have
07:28the offensive lineman and the wide receiver and every single part of the offense figured out and
07:33squared away it just doesn't exist at the same rate it just takes pressure off the situation
07:37no no I like your way better I was gonna say pressure there's still pressure here
07:41uh I did like the whole point of what scares me about drafting doing the left tackle and wide
07:47receiver or bus crowd is it's already hard enough to draft and then when you're drafting for need
07:53which usually gets teams in trouble in a draft that is compromised of truly blue blood talent at either
07:59spot not having that true need meaning you can draft for the next three to five years instead
08:06it just I think it just I think it allows you a greater chance of success because right now
08:13I think you're trying to thread a lot of needles here I think I think in this draft trying to
08:18find
08:18a pure left tackle and the best wide receiver you can while also looking at maybe future edge future
08:25interior defensive line a more offensive lineman certainly another cornerback another safety like
08:30looking at all these other spots there that's a lot to try and do especially if you're kind of
08:35front loading hey I think we have to take a wide receiver left tackle in the first round yeah but
08:39I do think it opens them up to a different part of this that other teams don't have uh that
08:43is a
08:44draft luxury and that like Monroe Freeling is one of these names that pops up with the idea that I
08:48don't know I don't know how much he's going to play year one you know what I mean uh you
08:51mentioned
08:51Chris Bell another one of those guys it's like is he going to be back from his injury uh in
08:55time
08:55to even play the first five six weeks of the season we don't know well you can get value with
09:00those
09:00guys and those guys they slip because of some of the concerns that we're talking about and if you're
09:05not serious about 2026 you know there's no rush to put those guys out on the field Keith made a
09:09really good point here in in texting you and me saying uh you know Miles is gonna his name is
09:14gonna
09:14come up at owners meetings next week convenient timing too yes I they were I the only thing I
09:22don't really know is if the Browns are really considering this and they're lying to everyone
09:26which I think we should expect I just don't know when they truly want to do it you know like
09:32is it
09:33an AJ Brown situation where everybody thinks June 2nd AJ Brown's gone yeah is it that or do they really
09:39want to wait till the regular season or but if you're gonna try to not do much in 2026 if
09:44like
09:45this this race for the number one pick or whatever this is and you're battling with the Jets and the
09:48Cardinals and these other if that's truly how they're going about this then having Miles Garrett
09:53on the on the field for another year doesn't really do that doesn't really do much for you
09:56I mean it might it might hinder you if anything if that's really the goal I think fans would still
10:00like to pay to watch Miles Garrett play as opposed to not watching but you're going to trade him at
10:04the
10:04end of the year anyway and so like maybe that's maybe that's enough for you to be like well Miles
10:07still puts
10:08butts in the seat so for one year we'll give you another maybe DPOY season of Miles if that's enough
10:13but like if I just don't think this this regime thinks about it that way they've given us no reason
10:18to think they think about the fans in any decision that they make I view this as a yes or
10:22no I'm a
10:23no on trading Miles Garrett I don't give a rat's ass about value I'm so sick of of draft nerds
10:30diluting
10:30people into thinking the value of the three picks in the late 20s maybe in the 30s really has that
10:36much
10:36value as opposed to a legitimate bonafide hall of fame some players you just let lose their value
10:42by continuously being great on your roster but from the Browns perspective I want that same mentality
10:48not not don't trade him no matter what because you're going to do what you're going to do I don't
10:52want conditional with Miles I don't want well we'll see how the first six games go now I want you
10:57to be
10:57definitive either you trade him before the regular season or understand you've already probably eaten
11:04into the value you had by letting him play two seasons after the initial trade and his value is
11:08not going to I would imagine it's not going to raise with each passing year even as incredible as he
11:12is
11:12it's not he's getting older like I don't love when this team's in uh well let's just see how it
11:18plays
11:18out because more often than not their attempts to I think we know how this is going to go they're
11:23they're in painstakingly wrong about and then usually end up on a bad side of the value proposition
11:29anyways yeah no it's it's it's really it's just uh they've they've put themselves in a really bad
11:34spot and now trying to watch them as they try to finagle out of it is going to be interesting
11:38to see
11:39you
