00:00Hi there. High pressure continues to dominate the weather across the UK, but there are some
00:05subtle shifts going on with that high pressure, and that's going to lead to cloudier skies for
00:09many and an increased chance of showers, especially towards the south and southwest.
00:13Now, what's going on? High pressure that has been with us all week, that's slowly losing its grip.
00:17It's pushing towards the northeast. At the same time, whilst the main branch of the jet stream
00:21is well to the north of the country, we've got this secondary branch, a circulation way up high,
00:27that means lower pressure is starting to arrive from the south and southwest in the higher part
00:34of the troposphere, destabilizing things and leading to an increased chance of showers in many places,
00:40but especially a very localized part of south Devon. If I just zoom in here, this is the 24-hour
00:46rain
00:47accumulation from Thursday evening through to Friday evening. You can just see this area of
00:53higher rainfall totals, so some quite heavy showers arriving on Thursday night into Friday
00:58across the south and southwest. In fact, there's already some showery rain touching the coasts of
01:03the south and southwest on Thursday afternoon, and some showers coming along on this easterly breeze
01:09from the North Sea. Certainly a cloudier day for many northern parts of the country. Again,
01:14the best of the sunshine in northwest Scotland, blue skies here. I'm feeling pleasant enough with light
01:19winds, temperatures around 10 or 11 Celsius, but it's going to feel chilly under the grey skies
01:25elsewhere, especially where we've got the brisk easterly breeze, and those showers coming in across
01:29eastern coasts and hills of England and Scotland. And it's into Thursday evening where we see the
01:37heavier showers start to get their act together across parts of Cornwall into Devon. Not great news if
01:42you're heading out for fireworks. Night, of course, we will see some wetter weather at times in the far
01:48south and southwest. Very localized, however, and there'll continue to be some light showers coming
01:52in on the easterly, but for many places, actually, it's a dry evening. Yeah, a lot of cloud around,
01:58but mostly settled because of the predominance, again, of high pressure, albeit losing its influence
02:05ever so slightly. Clear skies remaining in the northwest and at times for Northern Ireland. That's where,
02:10under those clear skies, we'll see a touch of frost overnight. We'll see some fog patches
02:14in places, but where we keep the cloud, temperatures holding up at 6 to 8 Celsius.
02:19However, it is going to be a gloomy start to the day on Friday across the south in particular.
02:26Spells of mostly light rain and drizzle moving northwards into central parts, and those heavy
02:32showers continuing in the far south and southwest on and off, but very localized. Perhaps even the odd
02:38rumble of thunder with some of the heavier downpours on the immediate coast. Towards the north,
02:44some clear spells, any fog patches in the northwest tending to clear slowly, and then a few sunny spells
02:50around, but mostly it's a cloudy picture. Some gloom around with low cloud and mist in places.
02:56Temperatures, again, around 10 to 12 Celsius. A little change then as we go through Friday evening
03:02and the start of the weekend. We've got this circulation towards the south and southwest,
03:07so further showers to come in places. A lot of cloud across the country, and yeah, a quiet start
03:13to the weekend, but not entirely dry and certainly not clear. There will be some dense fog patches
03:19around at first this weekend. Bye-bye.
