00:17When a wicked person turns from the wickedness he has committed, and does what is just and right, he will
00:26preserve his life.
00:30For I am aware of my rebellious acts, I am forever conscious of my sin.
00:39Hide your face from my sins, wipe away all my guilt.
00:47The sacrifices God desires are a humble spirit, O God, a humble and repentant heart you will not reject.
01:02Dearly beloved brothers and sisters, the scripture moves us in sundry places to acknowledge and confess our many sins and
01:10wickedness.
01:12We should not justify nor hide them before the face of Almighty God, our Heavenly Father, but confess them with
01:20a humble, lowly, penitent and obedient heart.
01:24To the end that we may obtain forgiveness of the same, by his infinite goodness and mercy.
01:35Although we ought always to humbly acknowledge our sins before God, we should do this particularly when we assemble and
01:43meet together,
01:44to give thanks for the great benefits we have received at his hands.
01:48To give him most worthy praise, to hear his most holy word, and to ask those things which are truly
01:57necessary as well for the body as the soul.
02:03Therefore, I pray and ask you, who are present here today, to accompany me with a pure heart and humble
02:10voice to the throne of the heavenly grace, as we say together.
02:16Almighty and most merciful Father, we have erred and strayed from your ways like lost sheep.
02:23We have followed too much the devices and desires of our own hearts.
02:29We have offended against your holy laws.
02:32We have failed to do those things which we ought to have done, and we have done things which we
02:39ought not to have done.
02:44But you, O Lord, have mercy upon us, miserable sinners.
02:49Spare those, O God, who confess their faults.
02:53Restore those who are truly penitent, according to your promises declared to mankind in Christ Jesus our Lord.
03:03Grant, O most merciful Father, for his sake, that we may hereafter live a godly, righteous, and sober life, to
03:12the glory of your holy name. Amen.
03:18Grant, we beseech you, merciful Lord, to your faithful people, pardon and peace, that they may be cleansed from all
03:26their sins, and serve you with a quiet mind.
03:30Through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
03:38Our Father, who is in heaven, hallowed be your name.
03:43Your kingdom come, your will be done, in earth as it is in heaven.
03:50Give us this day our daily bread.
03:53Forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us.
03:59Lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.
04:05For yours is the kingdom, the power, and the glory, forever and ever.
04:11Amen.
04:15O Lord, open our lips, and our mouths shall sing out your praise.
04:33Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit, as it was in the beginning,
04:41is now, and ever shall be, world without end.
04:46Amen.
04:48Praise the Lord.
04:51The Lord's name be praised.
04:57Psalm 142
05:00To the Lord I cry out, to the Lord I plead for mercy.
05:05I pour out my lament before him, I tell him about my troubles.
05:10Even when my strength leaves me, you watch my footsteps.
05:14In the path where I walk, they have hidden a trap for me.
05:20Look to the right and see.
05:23No one cares about me.
05:25I have nowhere to run.
05:27No one is concerned about my life.
05:30I cry out to you, O Lord.
05:32I say, you are my shelter, my security in the land of the living.
05:38Listen to my cry for help, for I am in serious trouble.
05:43Rescue me from those who chase me, for they are stronger than I am.
05:49Free me from prison, that I may give thanks to your name.
05:53Because of me the godly will assemble, for you will vindicate me.
05:59Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit.
06:03As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end.
06:10Amen.
06:16Psalm 143
06:19O Lord, hear my prayer.
06:21Pay attention to my plea for help.
06:24Because of your faithfulness and justice, answer me.
06:29Do not sit in judgment on your servant, for no one alive is innocent before you.
06:37Certainly my enemies chase me.
06:39They smash me into the ground.
06:41They force me to live in dark regions, like those who have been dead for ages.
06:48My strength leaves me.
06:50I am absolutely shocked.
06:54I recall the old days.
06:56I meditate on all you have done.
06:59I reflect on your accomplishments.
07:03I spread out my hands to you in prayer.
07:07My soul thirsts for you in a parched land.
07:11Answer me quickly, O Lord.
07:14My strength is fading.
07:16Do not reject me, or I will join those descending into the grave.
07:22May I hear about your loyal love in the morning,
07:25for I trust in you.
07:27Show me the way I should go, because I long for you.
07:33Rescue me from my enemies, O Lord.
07:36I run to you for protection.
07:40Teach me to do what pleases you, for you are my God.
07:44May your kind presence lead me into a level land.
07:50O Lord, for the sake of your reputation, revive me.
07:54Because of your justice, rescue me from trouble.
07:59As a demonstration of your loyal love, destroy my enemies.
08:04Annihilate all who threaten my life, for I am your servant.
08:10Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit,
08:15as it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be,
08:19world without end.
08:21Amen.
08:30The second book of Kings, chapter 7.
08:36Elisha replied,
08:37Hear the word of the Lord.
08:39This is what the Lord says.
08:42About this time tomorrow,
08:44a seer of finely thin-milled flour will sell for a shekel,
08:49and two seers of barley for a shekel,
08:52at the gate of Samaria.
08:55An officer, who was the king's right-hand man,
08:58responded to the prophet.
09:00Look, even if the Lord made it rain by opening holes in the sky,
09:04could this happen so soon?
09:08Elisha said,
09:10Look, you will see it happen with your own eyes,
09:13but you will not eat any of the food.
09:17Now four men with a skin disease were sitting at the entrance of the city gate,
09:21and they said to one another,
09:23Why are we just sitting here waiting to die?
09:28If we go into the city, we will die of starvation,
09:32but if we stay here, we will die.
09:35So, come on, let's defect to the Syrian camp.
09:38If they spare us, we will live.
09:41If they kill us, well, we were going to die anyway.
09:46And so they started towards the Syrian camp at dusk.
09:50When they reached the edge of the Syrian camp,
09:52there was no one there.
09:55The Lord had caused the Syrian camp to hear the sound of chariots and horses
10:00and a large army.
10:02And they said to one another,
10:04Look, the king of Israel has paid the kings of the Hittites and in Egypt to attack us.
10:09And so they got up and fled at dusk,
10:12leaving behind all their tents, horses and donkeys.
10:16They left the camp as it was and ran for their lives.
10:21When the men who had a skin disease reached the edge of the camp,
10:24they entered a tent and had a meal.
10:27Then they also took some silver, gold, clothes and went and hid it all.
10:33And then they went back and entered another tent.
10:35They looted it and went and hid what they had taken.
10:39Then they said to one another,
10:41It's not right what we are doing.
10:44This is truly a day to celebrate.
10:46But we haven't told anyone.
10:49If we wait until dawn, we will be punished.
10:51So come on, let us go and inform the royal palace.
10:56And so they went and they called out to the gatekeepers of the city.
10:59They told them,
11:01We entered the Syrian camp and there was no one there.
11:04We didn't even hear a man's voice,
11:06but the horses and donkeys are tied up and the tents remain up.
11:11The gatekeepers relayed the news to the royal palace.
11:17The king goes up in the night and said to his advisers,
11:20Let me tell you what the Syrians have done to us.
11:23They know we are starving.
11:24And so they have left the camp and hid in the field,
11:27thinking,
11:27When they come out of the city,
11:29we will capture them alive and enter the city.
11:33One of his advisers replied,
11:35Pick some men
11:36and have them take five of the horses that are left in the city.
11:41For even if they are killed,
11:42their fate will be no different than that of all the other Israelite people,
11:46for we are all about to die.
11:49Let us send them out,
11:51so that we may know for sure what is going on.
11:55And so they picked two horsemen,
11:57and the king sent them out to track the Syrian army.
12:00He ordered them,
12:02Go and find out what is going on.
12:05And so they tracked them as far as the Jordan.
12:08The road was filled with clothes and equipment
12:11that the Syrians had thrown away in their haste.
12:16Count Scouts went back and told the king,
12:20and then the people went out and looted the Syrian camp.
12:26A seer of finely milled flour sold for a shekel,
12:29and two seers of barley for a shekel,
12:32just as the Lord had said they would.
12:36Now the king had placed the officer who was his right-hand man at the city gate.
12:42When the people rushed out,
12:44they trampled him to death in the gate,
12:47fulfilling the prophet's word that he had spoken
12:49when the king had tried to arrest him.
12:53The prophet told the king,
12:55Two seers of barley will sell for a shekel,
12:58and the seer of finely milled flour for a shekel.
13:02This will happen about this time tomorrow in the gate of Samaria.
13:07But the officer had replied to the prophet,
13:11Look, even if the Lord made it rain by opening holes in the sky,
13:16could this happen so soon?
13:19Elisha said,
13:21Look, you will see it happen with your own eyes,
13:24but you will not eat the food.
13:26But this is exactly what happened to him.
13:29The people trampled him to death in the city gate.
13:34This is the word of the Lord.
13:36Thanks be to God.
13:53Mary said,
13:55My soul exalts the Lord,
13:58and my spirit has begun to rejoice in God my Saviour,
14:02because he has looked upon the humble state of his servant.
14:08For from now on all generations will call me blessed,
14:12because he who is mighty has done great things for me,
14:16and holy is his name.
14:19From generation to generation he is merciful to those who fear him.
14:25He has demonstrated power with his arm.
14:29He has scattered those whose pride wells up from the sheer arrogance of their hearts.
14:35He has brought down the mighty from their thrones,
14:38and has lifted up those of lowly position.
14:41He has filled the hungry with good things,
14:44and has sent the rich away empty.
14:48He has helped his servant Israel,
14:51remembering his mercy,
14:52as he promised to our ancestors,
14:55to Abraham,
14:57and to his descendants forever.
15:00Glory be to the Father,
15:02and to the Son,
15:03and to the Holy Spirit,
15:05as it was in the beginning,
15:07is now,
15:08and ever shall be,
15:10world without end.
15:12Amen.
15:21The Epistle to the Hebrews chapters 4 and 5
15:27Therefore, since we have a great High Priest
15:29who has passed through the heavens,
15:31Jesus, the Son of God,
15:33let us hold fast to our confession.
15:37We do not have a High Priest
15:38incapable of sympathising with our weaknesses,
15:41but one who has been tempted in every way,
15:45just as we are,
15:46and yet without sin.
15:49Therefore, let us confidently approach the throne of grace,
15:54to receive mercy and find grace whenever we need help.
15:58For every High Priest is taken from among the people,
16:01and appointed to represent them before God,
16:04to offer both gifts and sacrifices for sin.
16:09He is able to deal compassionately
16:12with those who are ignorant and in error,
16:15since he also is subject to weakness,
16:18and for this reason he is obliged
16:20to make sin offerings for himself,
16:23as well as for the people.
16:25No one assumes this honour on his own initiative,
16:29but only as called to it by God,
16:32as in fact Aaron was.
16:36So also Christ did not glorify himself
16:39in becoming High Priest,
16:41but the one who glorified him was God,
16:43who said to him,
16:44You are my son.
16:46Today I have fathered you.
16:49And also in another place God said,
16:52You are a priest for ever,
16:53in the order of Melchizedek.
16:57During his earthly life,
16:59Christ offered both requests and supplications,
17:03with loud cries and tears,
17:05to the one who was able to save him from death,
17:08and he was heard because of his devotion.
17:12Although he was a son,
17:14he learnt obedience through the things he suffered.
17:17By being perfected in this way,
17:20he became the source of eternal salvation
17:22to all who obey him,
17:24and was designated by God
17:26as a High Priest
17:28in the order of Melchizedek.
17:31On this topic,
17:33we have much to say
17:34and it is difficult to explain,
17:36since you have become sluggish in hearing.
17:40For there you should, in fact,
17:42be teachers by this time.
17:44You need someone to teach you
17:45the beginning elements of God's utterances.
17:48You have gone back to needing milk,
17:51not solid food.
17:53Everyone who lives on milk
17:54is inexperienced
17:56in the message of righteousness,
17:57because he is an infant.
18:00But solid food is for the mature,
18:03whose perceptions are trained by practice
18:05to discern both good and evil.
18:09This is the word of the Lord.
18:12Thanks be to God.
18:27Now, according to your word,
18:30Sovereign Lord,
18:31permit your servant to depart in peace.
18:34For my eyes have seen your salvation
18:37that you have prepared
18:39in the presence of all peoples,
18:42a light for revelation to the Gentiles
18:45and for glory to your people Israel.
18:50Glory be to the Father
18:52and to the Son
18:53and to the Holy Spirit,
18:54as it was in the beginning,
18:56is now and ever shall be,
18:58world without end.
19:01Amen.
19:05I believe in God the Father Almighty,
19:09maker of heaven and earth,
19:11and in Jesus Christ,
19:13his only Son, our Lord,
19:15who was conceived by the Holy Spirit,
19:18born of the Virgin Mary,
19:20suffered unto Pontius Pilate,
19:24was crucified, dead, and buried.
19:26He descended into hell.
19:29On the third day,
19:30he rose again from the dead.
19:33He ascended into heaven
19:35and is sitting at the right hand of God,
19:37the Father Almighty.
19:40From there he shall come to judge
19:42the living and the dead.
19:44I believe in the Holy Spirit,
19:47the Holy Catholic Church,
19:49the communion of saints,
19:50the forgiveness of sins,
19:53the resurrection of the body,
19:55and the life everlasting.
19:57Amen.
20:03The Lord be with you
20:06and with your spirit.
20:10Let us pray.
20:13Lord, have mercy upon us.
20:17Christ, have mercy upon us.
20:21Lord, have mercy upon us.
20:28Our Father, who is in heaven,
20:31holy is your name.
20:34May your kingdom come.
20:36May your will be done on earth
20:38as it is in heaven.
20:41Give us this day our daily bread.
20:43Forgive us our trespasses
20:45as we forgive those
20:47who trespass against us.
20:50Lead us not into temptation,
20:52but deliver us from evil.
20:55For yours is the kingdom,
20:58the power and the glory,
21:00for ever and ever.
21:03Amen.
21:08O Lord, show your mercy upon us
21:10and grant us your salvation.
21:16Protect and guide those in authority over us
21:21and mercifully hear us when we call upon you.
21:27And you, your ministers with righteousness
21:30and make your chosen people joyful.
21:36O Lord, save your people
21:39and bless your inheritance.
21:44Give peace in our time, O Lord,
21:47because there is none other who fights for us
21:50but only you, O God.
21:54O God, make clean our hearts within us
21:59and take not your Holy Spirit from us.
22:13O God, who has at this time taught the hearts
22:17of your faithful people
22:18by sending to them the light of your Holy Spirit,
22:22grant us by the same Spirit
22:25to have a right judgment in all things
22:28and evermore to rejoice in His Holy Comfort
22:32through the merits of Christ Jesus our Saviour
22:37who lives and reigns with you
22:40in the unity of the same Spirit,
22:43one God, world without end.
22:45Amen.
22:54O God, from whom all holy desires,
22:58all good counsels and all just works proceed,
23:02give to your servants that peace
23:04which the world cannot give,
23:06that our hearts may be set to obey your commandments,
23:10and also that, by you,
23:14we, being defended from the fear of our enemies,
23:17may pass our time in rest and quietness,
23:21through the merits of Jesus Christ our Saviour.
23:25Amen.
23:30Lighten our darkness, we beseech you, O Lord,
23:33and by your great mercy defend us all
23:37from perils and dangers of this night.
23:41For the love of your only Son,
23:43our Saviour, Jesus Christ.
23:45Amen.
23:49Almighty God,
23:51who has given us grace at this time with one accord
23:54to make our common supplications to you
23:57and promises that when two or three
24:00are gathered together in your name,
24:02you will grant their requests.
24:06Fulfill now, O Lord,
24:08the desires and petitions of your servants,
24:11as may be most beneficial for them,
24:15granting us in this world
24:17knowledge of your truth
24:19and in the world to come
24:21life everlasting.
24:23Amen.
24:27With the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ
24:29and the love of God
24:30and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit
24:33be with us all evermore.
24:36Amen.
