00:17When a wicked person turns from the wickedness he has committed, and does what is just and
00:24right, he will preserve his life.
00:30For I am aware of my rebellious acts, I am forever conscious of my sin.
00:40Hide your face from my sins, wipe away all my guilt.
00:48The sacrifices God desires are a humble spirit, O God, a humble and repentant heart you will
00:57not reject.
01:02Dearly beloved brothers and sisters, the scripture moves us in sundry places to acknowledge and
01:09confess our many sins and wickedness.
01:12We should not justify nor hide them before the face of Almighty God our Heavenly Father, but
01:19confess them with a humble, lowly, penitent and obedient heart, to the end that we may obtain
01:28forgiveness of the same, by his infinite goodness and mercy.
01:35Although we ought always to humbly acknowledge our sins before God, we should do this particularly
01:42when we assemble and meet together, to give thanks for the great benefits we have received at his
01:48hands.
01:49To give him most worthy praise.
01:51to hear his most holy word, and to ask those things which are truly necessary as well for the body
01:59as the soul.
02:03Therefore, I pray and ask you, who are present here today, to accompany me with a pure heart and humble
02:10voice to the throne of the heavenly grace, as we say together, Almighty and most merciful Father, we have erred
02:20and
02:20strayed from your ways like lost sheep. We have followed too much the devices and desires of our own hearts.
02:29We have offended against your holy laws. We have failed to do those things which we ought to have done.
02:37And we have done things which we ought not to have done. And so there is no health in us.
02:45But you, O Lord, have mercy upon us, miserable sinners. Spare those, O God, who confess their faults.
02:53Restore those who are truly penitent according to your promises declared to mankind in Christ Jesus our Lord.
03:03Grant, O most merciful Father, for his sake, that we may hereafter live a godly, righteous, and sober life,
03:11to the glory of your holy name. Amen.
03:18Grant, we beseech you, merciful Lord, to your faithful people, pardon and peace,
03:24that they may be cleansed from all their sins and serve you with a quiet mind.
03:30Through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
03:38Our Father, who is in heaven, hallowed be your name.
03:43Your kingdom come, your will be done in earth as it is in heaven.
03:50Give us this day our daily bread.
03:53Forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us.
03:59Lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.
04:05For yours is the kingdom, the power, and the glory, forever and ever. Amen.
04:15O Lord, open our lips, and our mouths shall sing out your praise.
04:23O God, make speed to save us.
04:27O Lord, make haste to help us.
04:33Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit.
04:39As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.
04:48Praise the Lord.
04:51The Lord's name be praised.
04:57Psalm 119
05:01I cried out with all my heart,
05:03Answer me, O Lord, I will observe your statutes.
05:08I cried out to you,
05:10Deliver me, so that I can keep your rules.
05:14I am up before dawn crying for help.
05:17I find hope, I find hope in your word.
05:20My eyes anticipate the night-time hours, so that I can meditate on your word.
05:27Listen to me because of your loyal love.
05:31O Lord, revive me as you typically do.
05:35Those who are eager to do wrong draw near.
05:38They are far from your law.
05:41You are near, O Lord, and all your commands are reliable.
05:48I learned long ago that you ordained your rules to last.
05:53See my pain and rescue me, for I do not forget your law.
05:59Fight for me and defend me, revive me with your word.
06:04The wicked have no chance for deliverance, for they do not seek your statutes.
06:11Your compassion is great, O Lord, or revive me as you typically do.
06:18The enemies who chase me are numerous, yet I do not turn aside from your rules.
06:25I take note of the treacherous and despise them, because they do not keep your instructions.
06:32See how I love your precepts, O Lord, revive me with your loyal love.
06:39Your instructions are totally reliable.
06:42All your just regulations endure.
06:47Rulers, pursue me for no reason, yet I am more afraid of disobeying your instruction.
06:54I rejoice in your instructions, like one who finds much plunder.
07:00I hate and despise deceit.
07:03I love your law.
07:06Seven times a day I praise you because of your just regulations.
07:12Those who love your law are completely secure.
07:16Nothing causes them to stumble.
07:19I hope for your deliverance, O Lord, and I obey your commands.
07:26I keep your rules.
07:28I love them greatly.
07:30I keep your precepts and rules, for you are aware of everything I do.
07:37Listen to my cry for help, O Lord.
07:41Give me insight by your word.
07:45Listen to my appeal for mercy.
07:48Deliver me as you promised.
07:51May praise flow freely from my lips, for you teach me your statutes.
07:57May my tongue sing about your instructions, for all your commands are just.
08:04May your hand help me, for I choose to obey your precepts.
08:09May I live and praise you.
08:11May your regulations help me.
08:14I have wandered off like a lost sheep.
08:18Come looking for your servant, for I do not forget your commands.
08:24Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit, as it was in the beginning,
08:30is now, and ever shall be, world without end.
08:34Amen.
08:44The Second Book of Kings, Chapter 1
08:48After Ahab died, Moab rebelled against Israel.
08:54Ahaziah fell through a window lattice in his upper chamber in Samaria, and was injured.
09:01He sent messengers with these orders.
09:03Go, ask Beelzebub, the guard of Ekron, if I will survive this injury.
09:10But the Lord's angelic messenger told Elijah, the Tishbite,
09:15Get up, go, meet the messengers from the king of Samaria.
09:19Say this to them.
09:22You must think there is no God in Israel.
09:25That explains why you are on your way to seek an oracle from Beelzebub, the god of Ekron.
09:32Therefore this is what the Lord says.
09:35You will not leave the bed you lie on, for you will certainly die.
09:41And Elijah went on his way.
09:46When the messengers returned to the king, he asked them, Why have you returned?
09:51They replied, A man came up to meet us.
09:54He told us, Go back to the king who sent you and tell him.
09:59This is what the Lord says.
10:01You must think there is no God in Israel.
10:05That explains why you are sending for an oracle from Beelzebub, the god of Ekron.
10:11Therefore you will not leave the bed you lie on, for you will certainly die.
10:18The king asked them,
10:21Describe the appearance of the man who came up to meet you and told you these things.
10:27They replied, He was a hairy man with a leather belt tied around his waist.
10:35The king said, He is Elijah the Tishbite.
10:43The king sent a captain with fifty soldiers to retrieve Elijah.
10:48The captain went up to him while he was sitting on the top of a hill.
10:52He said to him, Prophet, the king says come down.
10:58Elijah replied to the captain,
11:00If I am indeed a prophet, may fire come down from the sky and consume you and your fifty soldiers.
11:09Fire then came down from the sky and consumed him and his fifty soldiers.
11:18The king sent another captain and his fifty soldiers to retrieve Elijah.
11:23He went up and told him, Prophet, this is what the king says, come down at once.
11:31Elijah replied to them,
11:33If I am indeed a prophet, may fire come down from the sky and consume you and your fifty soldiers.
11:41Fire from God came down from the sky and consumed him and his fifty soldiers.
11:49The king sent a third captain with his fifty soldiers.
11:55This captain went up and fell on his knees before Elijah.
11:59Begging for mercy, he said,
12:02Prophet, please have respect for my life and for the lives of the fifty servants of yours.
12:08Indeed, fire came down from the sky and consumed the two captains who came before me,
12:14along with their men.
12:17So now, please have respect for my life.
12:21The Lord's angelic messenger said to Elijah,
12:25Go down with him, do not be afraid of him.
12:29So he got up and went down with him to the king.
12:35Elijah said to the king,
12:38This is what the Lord says.
12:41You sent messengers to seek an oracle from Beelzebub,
12:45the God of Ekron.
12:47You must think there is no God in Israel from whom you can seek an oracle.
12:52Therefore, you will not leave the bed you lie on,
12:55for you will certainly die.
13:02He died, just as the Lord had prophesied through Elijah.
13:07In the second year of the reign of King Jehoram, son of Jehoshaphat of Judah,
13:14Ahaziah's brother Jehoram replaced him as king of Israel, because he had no son.
13:20The rest of the events of Ahaziah's reign, including his accomplishments,
13:26are recorded in the scroll called the Annals of the Kings of Israel.
13:32This is the word of the Lord.
13:35Thanks be to God.
13:53Mary said,
13:55My soul exalts the Lord, and my spirit has begun to rejoice in God my Saviour,
14:02because he has looked upon the humble state of his servant.
14:08For from now on all generations will call me blessed,
14:12because he who is mighty has done great things for me,
14:16and holy is his name.
14:19From generation to generation he is merciful to those who fear him.
14:25He has demonstrated power with his arm.
14:29He has scattered those whose pride wells up from the sheer arrogance of their hearts.
14:35He has brought down the mighty from their thrones,
14:38and has lifted up those of lowly position.
14:42He has filled the hungry with good things,
14:45and has sent the rich away empty.
14:48He has helped his servant Israel,
14:51remembering his mercy as he promised to our ancestors,
14:56to Abraham and to his descendants for ever.
15:01Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit,
15:05as it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be,
15:10world without end.
15:12Amen.
15:21The Epistle to the Hebrews, Chapter 1
15:27After God spoke long ago in various portions and in various ways
15:32to our ancestors through the prophets,
15:35in these last days he has spoken to us in a Son,
15:40whom he appointed heir of all things,
15:43and through whom he created the world.
15:46The Son is the radiance of his glory,
15:49and the representation of his essence.
15:52He sustains all things by his powerful word.
15:56So when he had accomplished cleansing for sins,
15:59he sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high.
16:04So he became so far better than the angels,
16:08as he has inherited a name superior to theirs.
16:12But to which of the angels did God ever say,
16:17Today you are my son, I have fathered you.
16:21And in another place he says,
16:23I will be his father, and he will be my son.
16:27But when again he brings his firstborn into the world,
16:31he says,
16:33Let all the angels of God worship him.
16:36He says of the angels,
16:38He makes his angels spirits and his ministers a flame of fire.
16:44But of the Son, he says,
16:47Your throne, O God, is forever and ever,
16:49and the righteous scepter is the scepter of your kingdom.
16:53You have loved righteousness and hated lawlessness.
16:57So God, your God,
16:59has anointed you over your companions
17:01with the oil of rejoicing.
17:04And you founded the earth in the beginning, Lord,
17:08and the heavens are the works of your hands.
17:11They will perish, but you continue.
17:14They will grow old like a garment,
17:16like a robe you will fold them up,
17:19and like a garment they will be changed.
17:23But you are the same,
17:25and your years will never run out.
17:29But to which of the angels did he ever say,
17:33Sit at my right hand
17:35until I make your enemies a footstool for your feet?
17:40Are they not all ministering spirits
17:43sent out to serve those
17:45who will inherit salvation?
17:48This is the word of the Lord.
17:51Thanks be to God.
18:05Now according to your word, Sovereign Lord,
18:09permit your servant to depart in peace.
18:12For my eyes have seen your salvation
18:15that you have prepared
18:16in the presence of all peoples,
18:19a light for revelation to the Gentiles
18:22and for glory to your people Israel.
18:28Glory be to the Father,
18:30and to the Son,
18:30and to the Holy Spirit,
18:32as it was in the beginning,
18:34is now, and ever shall be,
18:36world without end.
18:38Amen.
18:43I believe in God the Father Almighty,
18:47maker of heaven and earth,
18:49and in Jesus Christ,
18:50his only Son, our Lord,
18:53who was conceived by the Holy Spirit,
18:56born of the Virgin Mary,
18:58suffered unto Pontius Pilate,
19:01was crucified, dead, and buried.
19:04He descended into hell.
19:07On the third day,
19:08he rose again from the dead.
19:10He ascended into heaven,
19:13and is sitting at the right hand of God,
19:15the Father Almighty.
19:17From there he shall come to judge
19:19the living and the dead.
19:22I believe in the Holy Spirit,
19:24the holy Catholic Church,
19:26the communion of saints,
19:28the forgiveness of sins,
19:30the resurrection of the body,
19:33and the life everlasting.
19:35Amen.
19:41The Lord be with you,
19:43and with your spirit.
19:47Let us pray.
19:51Lord, have mercy upon us.
19:54Christ, have mercy upon us.
19:59Lord, have mercy upon us.
20:05Our Father, who is in heaven,
20:09holy is your name.
20:11May your kingdom come.
20:14May your will be done on earth
20:16as it is in heaven.
20:18Give us this day our daily bread.
20:21Forgive us our trespasses,
20:23as we forgive those who trespass against us.
20:28Lead us not into temptation,
20:30but deliver us from evil.
20:33For yours is the kingdom,
20:36the power and the glory,
20:38for ever and ever.
20:41Amen.
20:45O Lord, show your mercy upon us,
20:49and grant us your salvation.
20:54protect and guide those in authority over us,
20:59and mercifully hear us when we call upon you.
21:05Endue your ministers with righteousness,
21:08and make your chosen people joyful.
21:13O Lord, save your people,
21:17and bless your inheritance.
21:21Give peace in our time,
21:24O Lord,
21:25because there is none other who fights for us
21:28but only you,
21:29O God.
21:32O God, make clean our hearts within us,
21:36and take not your Holy Spirit from us.
21:51O God, who has at this time taught the hearts
21:55of your faithful people
21:56by sending to them the light of your Holy Spirit,
22:01grant us by the same Spirit
22:03to have a right judgment in all things,
22:07and evermore to rejoice in his holy comfort
22:10through the merits of Christ Jesus our Saviour,
22:15who lives and reigns with you
22:18in the unity of the same Spirit,
22:21one God,
22:22world without end.
22:24Amen.
22:33O God,
22:34from whom all holy desires,
22:37all good counsels,
22:38and all just works proceed,
22:41give to your servants that peace
22:43which the world cannot give,
22:46that our hearts may be set to obey your commandments,
22:50and also that, by you,
22:53we, being defended from the fear of our enemies,
22:57may pass our time in rest and quietness,
23:01through the merits of Jesus Christ our Saviour.
23:05Amen.
23:10Lighten our darkness, we beseech you, O Lord,
23:13and by your great mercy defend us all
23:16from perils and dangers of this night.
23:20For the love of your only Son,
23:22our Saviour, Jesus Christ.
23:25Amen.
23:28Almighty God,
23:30who has given us grace at this time with one accord
23:33to make our common supplications to you,
23:37and promises that when two or three
23:39are gathered together in your name,
23:41you will grant their requests.
23:45Fulfill now, O Lord,
23:47the desires and petitions of your servants,
23:51as may be most beneficial for them,
23:55granting us in this world
23:56knowledge of your truth,
23:58and in the world to come,
24:00life everlasting.
24:03Amen.
24:06With the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ,
24:08and the love of God,
24:10and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit,
24:12be with us all evermore.
24:15Amen.
