02 May - National Evening forecast presented by Honor Criswick.
Transcript
00:00A raincoat might just be needed this evening. There is some rain in the forecast. This could
00:04turn heavy and thundery. Much needed rain though after a very dry April. But it can lead
00:10to some difficult driving conditions, some spray on the road, poor visibility and some
00:15localised flooding. So do take care if you're travelling around, particularly across central
00:19and southern England this evening. A chance this rain could turn thundery at times as
00:24it drifts its way northwards, eventually turning a little drier across southern parts of England
00:28or Wales through the early hours of the morning. There's some cloud around and the potential
00:32for some showers and often going to see some showers across Scotland and Northern Ireland
00:36through the course of the night as well. But overall, with the cloud and the rain, it should
00:40be mostly mild this evening, particularly across the south. Temperatures here not dropping
00:44much below 11 to 12 degrees Celsius, though that bit chillier across the far north of Scotland.
00:50Dryer here, some clear skies, so temperatures could reach around freezing. Now it's going
00:55to be a very soggy start for some on Sunday, particularly across northern England and southern
01:00parts of Scotland. The rain will eventually ease away. The system will push into parts
01:05of the North Sea. It is still going to be mostly cloudy, though, through much of the afternoon.
01:10Some showers across southern parts of England, also Wales. These could turn heavy and once
01:14again we could hear some rumbles of thunder. And there could be some scattered showers
01:18elsewhere across the country. But overall, by the afternoon, it will be much drier compared
01:22to what the morning will be. And still fairly mild across the south. Highs reaching between
01:2617 to 19 degrees Celsius here, but really starting to feel that bit colder across northern
01:32and eastern areas. In fact, if we compare that to 24 hours before, some areas will actually
01:36be between 5 to 7 degrees cooler. So really starting to see that cooler feel as we head into
01:42the second half of the weekend and into next week. Now there will be some showers for a time
01:46lingering across the south Sunday evening, but they'll largely fizzle out overnight. And some showers
01:52will just drift into the far north of Scotland. But actually for many areas, it will be dry.
01:57A few more clearer skies across Scotland, northern parts of England. So a chillier night to come,
02:01though temperatures still holding around the mid-single figures. But once again, with added
02:05cloud across the south still fairly mild here. Now the good news is for Bank Holiday Monday,
02:11it's not going to be a total washout. There will be some showers around at times, mostly
02:14across the south and eventually pushing into northern parts of Scotland. They could band together
02:19here to bring some longer spells of rain. This could also turn heavy at times. But for many
02:23areas, it should be dry. We'll see a mix of cloud, also some bright if not sunny spells
02:28later on into the day. But notice it is slightly cooler. Highs reaching between 13 to 15 degrees
02:34for many areas. Slightly warmer in the south, highs reaching 17 here. So in light winds where
02:39we do see any sunshine, it should feel rather pleasant for the time of year. But the cooler theme
02:44is here to stay. We have high pressure situated out to the west. This will continue a northerly
02:50feeder there. And we can see that northerly colder air moving across the country as we
02:54head into next week. And along with this, it's probably going to be unsettled at times with
02:59further rain and also some showers. But of course, for more updates on that, don't forget
