02 May - National evening forecast presented by Aidan McGivern.
Transcript
00:01Cool and changeable sums it up for the UK during the rest of the week.
00:04It's certainly what we've seen during June so far.
00:06Rain followed by showers followed by rain followed by further showers.
00:10More of that to come during Tuesday night, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.
00:15The heavier rain that we've seen across northern Scotland during the day on Tuesday eases away
00:18over the next few hours.
00:21Showers elsewhere become fewer and further between overnight.
00:25Clear spells emerging, but still one or two showers here and there.
00:29Still a breeze and a more comfortable night for sleeping, I would say, compared with last week.
00:35That's for sure.
00:36Some dry and bright weather around first thing Wednesday, but it's not going to last.
00:41The next system hot on the heels of the initial system with a stronger than average and more
00:48south shifted than normal jet stream sending these low pressure systems in.
00:53That means that it swiftly turns wet across northern Ireland, Wales and the southwest during Wednesday
00:57morning.
00:58A tricky rush hour as this rain moves northeastwards, turning damp for central and eastern and northern
01:03England by the afternoon, as well as central and southern Scotland.
01:06Even as that clears and the skies brighten, you can see a lot of showers returning to northern
01:12Ireland, the north and central part of England, as well as Wales in particular.
01:16Showers elsewhere, but fewer of them.
01:18A better chance of some sunshine emerging towards the south and southwest, albeit with a brisk breeze.
01:24The far north of Scotland, mostly dry. Still one or two showers, but mostly dry.
01:30And feeling a bit cooler everywhere compared with Tuesday. Temperatures a degree or so down
01:36and a little below average by now, having started the week with slightly above average temperatures.
01:41All these showers will rotate around an area of low pressure which is centered just off the north
01:47of Northern Ireland or the west of Scotland. And you can see these longer spells of rain rotating
01:51around it as well across northern Scotland, Northern Ireland into central and southern Scotland,
01:55northwest England by dawn on Thursday. Lots of showers pushing back into the south and southwest as
02:02well. It's a right dog's dinner by the start of Thursday. And with that strong breeze as well,
02:07it's an unpleasant start, albeit after, once again, another comfortable night for sleeping.
02:13So Thursday is an especially showery day with low pressure centered across Scotland. So outbreaks
02:20of rain and showers slow moving here with lighter winds, but with a brisk wind elsewhere,
02:25the showers will rattle through, albeit with quite a number of them moving in. And some longer
02:31spells of rain for Wales, parts of northern Scotland. The showers, where they do occur,
02:36they're going to be lively with gusty winds, hail, thunder, but there will be some brighter spells
02:41in between the showers. However, it's going to feel a little cooler again with temperatures a degree
02:46or so down compared with Thursdays. And that cooling trend continues with the coolest day of the week
02:52expected on Friday, before temperatures recover a little this weekend. But it's going to stay
02:57very mixed through the weekend. Rain on Saturday, clearing to showers on Sunday. Bye.
