00:00Hello there. Bank holiday Monday was a dry day for many and albeit quite cloudy for most of us,
00:06there was some warm sunshine in the southwest, albeit with some heavy showers for some of us.
00:11As we go through the next 24 hours though, we are going to see it turn quite a bit colder
00:15though,
00:15particularly in the north of the UK through Tuesday and potentially even in the south
00:18as we go into Wednesday as well. So that does mean there's an increasing chance of some
00:23overnight frost and at this time of the year, those can be damaging. So gardeners and growers
00:27do take note. But back to Monday evening and we do have some heavy showers across
00:32some southern counties of England, the very far south of Wales as well. Although most of these
00:36will ease as we go into the early hours of Tuesday morning, some may well continue right the way
00:41through the course of tonight. We'll also see an increasing number of showers pushing into northern
00:45Scotland. These will be accompanied by some fairly brisk northerly winds. So it's going to turn
00:50increasingly cold here through the course of tonight. And by the end of the night, the showers
00:54will be falling as hail, sea and snow up over the higher ground. So quite a notably cold
00:59feel here. Temperatures falling down quite close to freezing by the morning. But for most
01:03of the UK, it will be a frost free night. And in the south, it will actually be quite a
01:07mild
01:07start to the day on Tuesday. As well as that, there'll be some fog patches, but those will
01:12fairly quickly clear in that strong May sunshine in eastern and southeastern England. And then
01:17it's a mostly dry day for a good chunk of the UK. Yes, there'll be a few isolated showers,
01:22but these will be very hit and miss and a lot of the UK will remain entirely dry. The showers
01:27perhaps most likely across more northeastern parts of Scotland and also some eastern areas
01:32of England too. But again, a lot of these will be on the light side and they won't amount
01:36to very much at all. What will be more noticeable about the weather on Tuesday, though, will be
01:41the northerly breeze. And that will make it feel quite a bit cooler compared to on Monday.
01:46So temperatures in the north ranging from between 10 and 13 degrees Celsius in general. Still
01:51quite warm in the south in any sunshine. We could see highs of 19 or 20 degrees very locally.
01:56But when you take into account what the temperatures are going to be compared to on Monday, well,
02:02northeastern parts of England and eastern parts of Scotland in particular will see a quite
02:05notable drop in temperatures. So it's here where we're likely to see it feel a lot colder compared
02:11to on Monday. Now, as we go into Tuesday night, initially quite a bit of cloud and a few scattered
02:16showers around. But increasingly so, skies will clear through the early hours of Wednesday morning.
02:22That will allow one or two mist and fog patches, but it will also allow temperatures to fall
02:26quite low. So in the north of the UK, we are going to see quite a widespread frost by the
02:31end
02:31of Tuesday night. Temperatures in towns and cities not too far away from freezing. In the countryside,
02:36well, temperatures could perhaps fall down to minus four or minus five across the heart of Scotland
02:40and also parts of northern England as well. So a fairly sharp frost in some prone rural spots.
02:47And even in the south, we could even see a touch of grass frost in some prone spots too.
02:51A bit milder towards the southwest, and that's also because we've got more on the way of cloud here.
02:56So for parts of southwest England and Wales, we'll see a scattering of showers through Wednesday morning.
03:01One or two showers also drifting in off the North Sea across more eastern parts of England as well.
03:05So more on the way of cloud here. Otherwise, some sunny spells.
03:08And even though the cloud amounts will bubble up into the afternoon, some areas will stay dry once again
03:14and there will be some sunny intervals. Across more northern parts of Scotland, generally thicker cloud here.
03:19Outbreaks of rain affecting the Northern Isles and the far northwest as well.
03:23But for all of us, it is going to feel fairly cool after that cold start. Temperatures not getting much
03:28better
03:28than 12 or 13 degrees Celsius. So a little bit below par for the time of year.
03:34Although, of course, in the sunshine this time of the year, it will feel fairly warm.
03:38Given that it's May.
03:40So, fairly changeable picture over the next few days.
