00:00Also, you know Mary Kay is going to be on at 8.20.
00:02Is it time to call the QB race?
00:03I want to ask you that question, Anthony Lima.
00:06I still don't want to call the QB race, but, man, where there's...
00:09Yeah, that seems silly to do May.
00:11You say it's silly in May, but, man, where there's smoke,
00:13there seems to always be fire here, and I thought it might...
00:17The reason I...
00:18I'm not going to call it Corbett race because, one, I want Shador to start.
00:22If it's this QB room, I want Shador to be the starter
00:24for all the reasons I've stated for you in the past.
00:26The second thing is, is I told you it was going to be this way.
00:32We've been asked this question a million times before,
00:34and you agreed with me, and you've told people it's going to be this way.
00:38One guy's been a veteran in the league.
00:40They're in T-shirts and shorts.
00:44Also, and I got a couple of weird texts about this.
00:47Was it Monday I said it to you, or which day was it?
00:51Tuesday?
00:51It was probably Tuesday because we were getting ready for game one.
00:54And so we had a little bit of time to do a couple of other things
00:57because, oddly enough, when teams go to the Eastern Conference Finals
01:00and the Guardians win five in a row, Browns do go on the back burner.
01:04I know people on Reddit aren't going to say that,
01:06according to what you tell me, but still.
01:10It is imperative to know that, yeah, man, there's going to be...
01:18I don't think the leaks are in the building necessarily as are.
01:21There's always going to be PR.
01:23There's always going to be a guy like David Mulligetta,
01:25who's the most powerful agent in the world, who has people working for him.
01:28And there's going to be conversation out there.
01:31I mean, insiders don't get stuff in the building as much as we think.
01:37It's a lot of agent work.
01:39It's a lot of hangers-on, PR guys, things like that.
01:44It doesn't mean that there is this...
01:46You use the term orchestrated.
01:48It's not like there's this big campaign of misinformation out there.
01:52A lot of it's common sense.
01:53One guy has played at an MVP level before.
01:55Now, that was many, many, many, many, many years ago.
01:57And he's had many, many, many injuries since.
02:00But the other guy's going into year two.
02:03And Todd Munkin is...
02:04The guy's just the perfect recipe.
02:05I told you before, it's a 60-year-old head coach
02:08who's got one shot to do this.
02:10Why wouldn't the veteran be in the lead for the quarterback job?
02:15A lot of it's just sense.
02:17And as much as it bothers me, because I'm ready to move on.
02:21I'm ready to move on from Watson
02:22and move on to something younger and fun.
02:25And maybe it's Shador.
02:27Maybe it's somebody in the 2027 draft.
02:28But I'm ready to move on.
02:29But I'm going to have to just accept, if it comes down to it,
02:32that the head coach of the football team
02:34made the decision that he thought was right by the football team.
02:37And it does seem premature on May 21st.
02:39But just because it's premature doesn't mean it's wrong.
02:42It was very interesting to see.
02:45Because I had a buddy in town yesterday.
02:47And so I was kind of away from all the analysis of the reps.
02:51And then I got home and just flipped on social media.
02:55And I see people losing their minds over the reps.
03:00Debating.
03:00The best is...
03:01They debated Zach Jackson on what he saw.
03:04Like, Zach is there covering, just like Daryl is there.
03:07Mary Kay is there covering.
03:09All the great reporters in town.
03:10They're watching.
03:11And all they're doing is just passing the information on.
03:13I can guarantee you, Zach doesn't really care, you know, about this stuff.
03:18Because I talked to him on the phone.
03:19And people are...
03:20Well, no, and Zach, he probably thinks very little of both.
03:22Well, he does.
03:23Yeah, he does, obviously.
03:25He doesn't think much of this quarterback room right now.
03:26Yeah.
03:27But they are debating with Zach what he saw.
03:30And Zach's like, hey, yeah, you know, here...
03:34Okay, Watson threw this many passes.
03:37And Shador threw an interception.
03:39And people are like, well, Watson threw an interception, too.
03:40And he's like, no, I'm here.
03:42He did not.
03:42In seven on seven, throw an interception.
03:44And they're like, well, yeah, he did.
03:45Yeah, he did.
03:45And he's like, no, I'm here.
03:47I'm watching.
03:48I can guarantee you.
03:49I will put my family on the line to tell you this.
03:52And they're debating.
03:52So they can't even...
03:54There are factions of this fan base that can't even grant that one quarterback might have had a better day
04:00than the other.
04:01In seven on seven.
04:02Guys, if you can't handle seven on seven reporting, then you might as well just cover your ears and close
04:08your eyes during training camp.
04:10I think that's probably what a lot are going to do.
04:11Holy cow.
04:12I do think that because we've gotten to a point where if someone tells us what we don't want to
04:16hear, we accuse that person of lying to us.
04:19And I don't want to hear that Deshaun Watson's the leader here.
04:21I don't want to have these conversations again.
04:23I'm ready to move on.
04:24I really am.
04:26I'll deal with it.
04:27If he's the better quarterback, they've got to try to win.
04:30So fine.
04:31But I'm not going to call Zach a liar.
04:33I've known Zach for 20 years.
04:34You think I think Zach's a liar?
04:35Zach ain't no liar.
04:36I know Mary Kay for 14 years.
04:38She ain't no liar.
04:39I've known Todd Munkin for, what, a couple of conversations and then passing him in the hallway in 2019.
04:45Todd ain't no liar.
04:47So I'm not going to just call people liars just because they said something I didn't like.
04:52You're telling me a bunch of stuff about Miles Garrett.
04:54That's your opinion about whether or not it's weird that he hasn't talked to Todd Munkin.
04:59And I'm getting a bunch of texts from somebody else here at the fan getting all worked up because they
05:03think I'm burying my head in the sand.
05:04And I just think it's apples and oranges about the comparison that they're making.
05:07But it's not, I'm not going to call that guy a liar.
05:10Yeah.
05:10So this is great.
05:11So yesterday, after the interception or whatever, Todd wasn't happy with some of what he saw in seven on seven.
05:18I love hearing this because this is the time you want to hear this.
05:22I don't want to hear this during the season because I hope that's not the way things are shaking when
05:27the bullets are actually flying.
05:29But here's Todd Munkin.
05:30The defense was able to have a couple heads up picks, knock the ball out a couple times.
05:34Did you like their aggression in this session today?
05:37Yeah.
05:38We threw interceptions in seven on seven for God's sakes.
05:41I mean, who does that?
05:42There's no pass rush.
05:44I mean, it's embarrassing.
05:45I mean, and yeah, that's kind of the state of affairs right now in that quarterback room, unfortunately.
05:52And look, you're going to get honest Todd.
05:54I want him to win so bad.
05:56Don't turn on him now.
05:57He's so much more fun than Kevin was, and I like Kevin.
05:59Nobody better get mad that he's saying that stuff now because this is the time.
06:03Honestly, this is the time where these mistakes, they need to be coached out.
06:07And I'm sure it is embarrassing to a head coach.
06:09I'm also sure this happens all the time.
06:10I mean, he's saying that I think Todd talks in extremes, and this is the time to sort
06:17that stuff out.
06:18I mean, I have no problem with that at all.
06:20I actually love hearing it from him.
06:21I do.
06:22Especially, look, it's been six years, and I'm not going to do the thing where everything
06:25Kevin Stefanski did for six years was bad.
06:28Like, because that's silly.
06:29The guy had this team at a level we hadn't seen in a long time.
06:33So let's not act like everything he did was wrong.
06:36But after six years of hearing Kevin talk one way, all right, here's your change of pace.
06:40Here's your change of pace.
06:41By the way, this would get old after six years if you're not winning games.
06:45Is Jeremy Fowler on the list of people who we take seriously when it comes to the starting
06:50quarterback?
06:51I think he is actually written on the list here.
06:52Let me pull it out.
06:53I believe he has made the list.
06:55In the meantime, here is Jeremy Fowler about that QB race on afternoon drive, that competition.
07:00What say you, Jeremy?
07:01It kind of feels like a little bit of a soft launch, but I don't necessarily think the Browns
07:05are planting seeds there.
07:06I think this is how it's developing.
07:07And you have a veteran in the building who's played a lot of football and has once upon
07:11a time played at a high level.
07:12For a first-year coach, that can be helpful.
07:15So at the same time, the people I talked to in the building leading up to when the story
07:19ran said, we've barely done anything.
07:21It's early May.
07:22There's a lot that has to play out.
07:24Days like today are important because you're getting reps among four quarterbacks.
07:28So they're out there doing that.
07:29And I think in the next couple weeks, Todd Monkton will have at least a better idea of
07:34where he might be leaning.
07:35It's just that Deshaun, with the credentials and the way he has responded to the Achilles
07:40injury, seems to be in a good place mentally and physically, would give him the edge.
07:44I think in the simplest form, Deshaun is a more qualified quarterback than Shador Sanders
07:48at this stage.
07:49But that doesn't mean Shador can't take the job over the next weeks and months.
07:53You know who I'm rooting for in that case.
07:55Here's more with Jeremy Fowler on Deshaun standing in the QB battle.
08:00Is this a quarterback that's going to be a little bitter based on getting booed before,
08:03not always being welcome because of obvious reasons?
08:06You have the off-field stuff, and you have the poor play, and you have the injuries.
08:09I was told no, that there's really no bitterness there.
08:11And he liked his experience in Cleveland.
08:13He had a better relationship with Kevin Stefanski than some might think.
08:16It just wasn't quite an offensive scheme fit, where Todd Monkton's offense offers a little
08:21more there as far as spread offense concepts, the ability to move around, read and react.
08:26I think he's probably at his best when he's improvising a little bit, which at this stage
08:30in his career, I don't know how much of that he can do.
08:32So that's where, when the real bullets are flying in the season, if he is the starter,
08:36he's going to have to answer that.
08:37You know, does he still have the talent and the ability to create and to be an artist there
08:41a little bit?
08:41Which, when he was at his best in Houston, when he could do some of that, improvising with
08:45DeAndre Hopkins and some of his weapons.
08:46So he's got to prove that he still has that ability.
08:50So that's Jeremy Fowler on it.
08:52Now, Jeremy Fowler has given the lead to Deshaun Watson.
08:56I'm not ready to call it a race.
08:58I would hope not.
09:00It's May 21st, guys.
09:02Yeah, uh-huh.
09:02You and I both say that.
09:04Here is Mike Garofalo, NFL Network on BetMGM Radio, which is, I believe, an odyssey.
09:09What do you think the percent chance is Deshaun Watson is the week one starting quarterback
09:13for the Cleveland Browns in like 30 to 45 seconds?
09:16101.
09:17No matter what happens, as long as he's healthy, he's going to start.
09:21I mean, if he looks horrendous in camp and preseason, right, which I don't think he will,
09:25but no, I've said, I think I phrased it back in March that he's in the pole position.
09:30Everything I heard out of the combine, senior bowl week, I remember talking to a guy and
09:34they were like, look, Deshaun Watson's going to start for this team.
09:36You guys know that, right?
09:37But there'll be a competition for it to play out.
09:39But I think in the end, Deshaun Watson, I don't think, I know Deshaun Watson's going to
09:43start for this team.
09:43Damn.
09:45101%.
09:46There's only 100%.
09:47He's giving you an extra.
09:48Am I wrong in...
09:50He's doing Steiner, man.
09:51The fact that it's Jeremy Fowler.
09:53It's, you know, Garofalo here.
09:55Garofalo.
09:56Garofalo.
09:56So, Jimmy Garofalo.
09:59Get her opinion on who should start.
10:01The fact that the more and more these guys that, quite frankly, can pick up the phone
10:05and talk to people within the Browns organization.
10:08Because...
10:09But I also think they're talking to people within other people's camps.
10:12Okay.
10:12Well, wait.
10:13So, you still think this is just coming from one quarterback's camp?
10:17No.
10:17No.
10:18Not all of it.
10:18Because I don't.
10:19Because I'm probably trying to make myself feel better.
10:20I think that is pretty telling.
10:25Especially because what has there really been to see out of Deshaun Watson?
10:31Like, where has he been able to make these huge impressions on the new head coach?
10:37Like, pretty clearly, Todd Munkin came here and had in his mind.
10:41And maybe this is what he pitched to get the job, guys.
10:44I think we have to wonder about that.
10:46You remember the text I got.
10:47Well, I think he must have come in and part of the sell job to make him stand out over
10:54Udinzi.
10:54Who were the other guys that were up at Steelhouse?
10:57Right.
10:58Shieldhouse.
10:59Okay.
10:59He must have gotten in there and said,
11:02Hey, I know that you feel that your investment is sunk cost.
11:06I can get something out of this.
11:07I don't think it was that.
11:08That, I don't think it was.
11:10I think it was more, you can't just go in there and say,
11:13That guy doesn't work.
11:14Well, I'm sorry.
11:15You're supposed to be a head coach.
11:16We got to get him to point A to point B because we can't just take a quarterback out of
11:19this
11:19draft and move on with him.
11:21So I think that he was probably talking about all the quarterbacks that he could get out
11:24of him.
11:25And maybe he was honest and said, Hey, there's guys that I can get more out of than others.
11:29And when you're looking at one guy who, again, it was six freaking years ago, one guy who
11:33played at a high level in the NFL, they're playing in t-shirts and shorts.
11:39So it can be, we can call it a quarterback competition, but naturally, wouldn't it be
11:43more rigged?
11:44Rigged is a terrible word.
11:45Wouldn't it go more towards Deshaun Watson?
11:47So some of this stuff is, again, I don't like hearing it, but I have to accept it because
11:51it just seems to be more closer to the truth than what it would be.
11:55I mean, if you were the head coach of the Browns, who do you give the inside track to?
11:59The veteran, right?
12:00If I'm the head coach of the Browns, I give the inside track to the veteran, the guy who's
12:04played it at a high level before in the NFL for a longer period of time, that's what I
12:08would do.
12:09And I don't think it's about paying off some investment or anything like that.
12:13It is a sunk cost.
12:14I think they just want to win football games.
12:15Because I told you before, if he goes out there and he plays well, guys, we got a whole
12:18another set of circumstances here because I don't think he's going to want to be here.
12:21And so if he plays well again, we're going to go through it all.
12:24I mean, hell, we're chewing the fat on Miles every other day, whether or not he wants to
12:27be here.
12:28I know one guy I don't think wants to be here whatsoever.
12:30And if he plays well and he can find a way out of here and continue his NFL career,
12:34brother, he's going to be on the first train out of town.
12:37And so we're going to be left having a big conversation about that.
12:40So there are ramifications from it, but you changed out the head coach.
12:44Everybody hated the head coach, said there needed to be a change.
12:46Fine.
12:46But you went out and you hired a 60 year old man who needs to win now.
12:49He don't care about any of that other stuff.
12:51So you're going to get what you hired.
