13 May - National Evening Forecast presented by Aidan McGivern
Transcript
00:00Hi there.
00:01Often at this time of year we'd expect the showers to die away overnight, but that's
00:05not exactly going to happen everywhere.
00:07We'll see plenty of showers continuing up and down the United Kingdom, heavy downpours
00:12in places hail and thunder.
00:14In some areas the showers will ease, especially through central spine of the UK, southern
00:20Scotland and northern England through the Midlands.
00:22Fewer showers here overnight, but more showers for Wales in the south-west compared with
00:27daylight hours, northern Scotland, eastern England seeing plenty more as well as Northern
00:31Ireland.
00:31In between the showers there will be some drier and in fact clearer weather, winds easing
00:36a little to allow temperatures to fall to the mid single figures widely and in some sheltered
00:42spots the low single figures.
00:44I think avoiding an air frost by and large away from the peaks of Scotland because the
00:49breeze will stir things up enough.
00:51Speaking of the peaks of Scotland, still some flakes of snow around in the showers as they
00:55come through and more showers to come across northern mainland Scotland through Thursday.
01:00Fewer showers for Shetland and Orkney, but windy here, that wind reaching near Galeforce
01:05towards the end of the day.
01:06It's going to actually increase through the day and it's going to continue to make it feel
01:09cold, pushing further showers right across the UK.
01:14And I think a more showery day for Wales in the south-west compared with Wednesday, a slightly
01:18less showery day for Scotland.
01:20And at least those showers will be easing a little later, likewise for Northern Ireland.
01:23Some blue skies coming through, but whether you've got the sunshine or the showers, it's
01:27going to feel on the cool side.
01:29We're talking about 10 Celsius, it feels like temperatures in the south, 7 or 8 further north.
01:35So a good few degrees, 4 or 5 degrees lower than the actual temperature.
01:40Now, Thursday night we'll see further showers for a time, but actually the difference compared
01:45with Wednesday night is that many more of these showers will ease after the sun goes down.
01:50So a greater chance of lengthy dry and clear spells, certainly for sheltered inland parts,
01:56but further showers coming into northern Scotland, parts of Northern Ireland and some clumps of
02:00rain elsewhere.
02:01Cloudier towards the south-east, clearer elsewhere.
02:04And as a result, temperatures will fall once again mid to low single figures, perhaps an
02:09air frost in some sheltered spots as we begin Friday.
02:11But it's going to be a windy night for the north-east of Scotland, with the winds nearing
02:16gale force, certainly high gusts expected now.
02:19Into Friday, you can see the swirl in the winds here near Norway, and that's where the low
02:25pressure is.
02:26This band of rain just staying offshore for a while, and as that low pressure edges a bit
02:31further east, we're going to see a drier and brighter day in many places.
02:36Fewer showers, a lot fewer compared with Wednesday and Thursday.
02:40But still some knocking about, especially for the south and east of England.
02:45Northern parts of Scotland, one or two for Northern Ireland.
02:47In between, as you can see, plenty of sunny skies.
02:51Not exactly feeling much warmer, but if the winds ease into the afternoon and sun comes
02:57through, it is going to feel a bit more pleasant.
02:5915 Celsius in the south, 11 or 12 further north.
03:03The weekend stays changeable.
03:05Saturday for many is the drier day.
03:08More showers to come at times, however.
03:10But at least it is going to feel a little bit warmer.
03:13But at least it is going to feel a little bit warmer.
